Following my heart, one book at a time...
I have finally acquired enough books from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s dark hunter series to get a good start on it (beginning with the first book, while reading it all in order). YAY! I also purchased the first two books of Terri Garey’s “Nicki Styx” series (so my reviews for that trio will be coming up soon).
My newest books:
Book six focuses on the stunningly gorgeous vampire, Diego, who had recently suffered an incredible loss in a past book (the murder of his longtime vampire girlfriend “Esperanza”). We’ve been privy to certain aspects of his personality in past books, and his character was quite alluring. I couldn’t wait to absorb myself in his path to finding love once again.
Diego has been friends with a human female (Ramona) for quite some time. He has taken her under his wing, and unknowingly, assisted in turning her life around, encouraging her to develop her true talent as an artist. He owns an art museum, and he intends to help her gain exposure by showing her work.
Blood Promise: A Vampire Academy Novel
Oh how I have missed Dimitri, and was highly anticipating this book, expecting another beautiful, but difficult, love story. I was hoping that the noble, god-like Strigoi warrior would, somehow, still be himself (if you read the previous book, you were probably heartbroken at how it ended). Alas, it was wishful thinking. While I enjoyed the book, apparently, I spent a great deal of it, frowning.
This book focuses on Rose’s search for Dimitri, in his new “Strigoi” form (evil vampire), with the intention to stake him (a promise each of them made to each other if they were ever “turned”). She travels to Russia, and through a few new contacts, and events, eventually finds herself at his family’s residence. Once she delivers the news, the anguished family accepts her as one of their own, and she stays with them for awhile, taking comfort in being surrounded by those closest to Dimitri.
The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker
This novel (officially released today), has become, unequivocally, one of my favourite books (I was lucky enough to get a “sneak preview”). It is an amazing paranormal love story rivaling some of the sweetest tales. It will have you chuckling, teary eyed, and “love drunk” midway through.
Set in Victorian London, the novel introduces us to a group of six children, each gifted with a specific supernatural ability, and the ability to see (but not hear) ghosts. Their duty is to form an alliance called “The Guard” that protects humans from restless spirits.
Book five of the series expands on Ricardo and Sara’s story. Both of these characters were introduced in previous books (remember, Sara the nurse who was Melissa’s best friend? Sara was offering bags of blood to a Santero (Ricardo) in hopes that he could heal her mother). While Sara had her doubts about his “abilities”, and was suspicious as to what he was doing with the blood he was requesting, she was willing to try anything to reverse her mother’s prognosis.
