Willing Victim by Cara McKenna – released in 2010…bit of a cult book now. When I started this book, I wasn’t sure I’d like. But the story & Flynn, an underground fighter, weren’t what I expected. Lauren: “…when I first met you, you seemed really…obvious. And you’re not”. It would be easy to stereotype him…a fighter who enjoys BDSM with weekly partners & no strings attached. But he’s also respectful, caring, intuitive & speaks with raw honesty. New world for Lauren as she tries to make sense of Flynn. 4-stars
Counsellor (Acquisition Series #1) by Celia Aaron – Wealthy alpha lawyer & smart young woman who somehow is now at mercy. I think many people will like this one. Great story, dark, edgy, suspense. But I like my books really streamlined and this was going to be a trilogy. So halfway through I felt really impatient, but may just be me. Still glad I read it. 3-stars
Mony, Willing Victim was my first book in that genre (I think) and OMG I was hooked but also super secretive about it. LOL!!! I had to put so many warnings in my review.
Curious about your second read. 😀
Hilarious…I think we’ve come a long way! 🙂 Haven’t decided on book # 2 yet…
Mony
WILLING VICTIM sounded familiar. And it should because I am the proud possessor of 2 copies of it on my kindle. The original and the updated edition. And I have not read either one. Can you believe it? If I stop to think about how much money I have invested in books that are at my beck and call on my kindle, we’ll I don’t want to know. But will tell you this…just about always in my purse when I am headed out my door. Please keep the recommendations coming Mony. I may not always comment, but most always scan the blog and if I see your name always read to see what you have to say.
Enjoy reading your “take” on certain books and like your humor. Thanks.
P.S. which WILLING VICTIM should I read?
That’s so cool JulieO! Thanks!
So, I would read the second one. I think the first one is a less polished piece. I’d be interested in scanning #1 beforehand to see what changed. Hope that helps!
Was so looking forward to today. Then I started The Star Crossed Sisters of Tuscany and now I’m a little invested, but the allure of new books are pulling me, big time. I want The Ex Hex so bad, but I saw spoilers and I could and should get it in like a week. But, waiting is making me itchy. So, then I thought, I’ll just get another. But then, I won’t even start it till after I finish my current read, which will be a little while yet. And I keep cycling in circles and driving myself crazy. Ugh, I put a handful of them on my wishlist. So they can group together and break me down. 😩 😂
LOL!! Nothing better than too many books to choose from. 😉
Right? I just want to inhale them all. Right now.
I’ve started Decisions We Make After Midnight and liking it so far.
I LOVE THAT AUTHOR!!!! One of my all-time favs
Good to know…thanks Jan.
When you said that The Difference Between Us by Higginson was your favourite in the Opposites Attract series, I thought I’d try it again. First time – few years ago, I struggled with it – but this time I loved it. Lately, I’m finding that happening with some re-reads…huh.🤷♀️
Me too, Mony. I’m often finding I like a book much better second time around. Maybe the first time I race through it too quickly, but the second time I kinda know the characters better and understand them. I’m trying to read a little slower and more mindfully lately, to try to take in all of the lovely details an author puts in to their work rather than just rushing through to the HEA.
Glad you enjoyed The Difference between Us. It’s good, isn’t it?
HELLO MARYSE and friends!!! I am alive. Covid hasn’t gotten me yet. Anyhoo… I read a few books by the same author and am totally hooked. I can’t wait for her next release. The author is Teresa Driscoll. I started with I Am Watching You, then read The Promise, The Friend, and I Will Make You Pay. They are all stand alones, but…. best part is they have recurring characters – just the private investigator and cop – but I adore them. So you don’t need to read them in any order. They take place in England, so I love the dialogue. So fun. I kept telling myself, “I bet Maryse would love these books”, so I thought I’d pop in and recommend them. They are suspense novels, and that’s been a genre I have been exploring more of.
As always, have missed all the book talk. So much family “stuff” and work “stuff” happening. I haven’t read as much as I’d like to. I am going to try hard to keep up with reading and checking in on all of you.
THEY. SOUND. AWESOME!!!!!!!
And YAY!! I’m glad you’re here MichelleS even if only occasionally. I get being caught up in family stuff and trying to balance everything.
Hi Michelle *waves* Nice to hear from you. Hope all is going well in your life. I might try Teresa Driscoll. I like suspense/investigators sometimes as a change from my fav books – romance of course!
