HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE!! The start of a new week and I can’t even believe July is already almost here. Let’s hope July settles down and be’s nice and quiet. π Hehe. I said be’s. π
19 new releases today and 10 of ’em areΒ based on the HUGELY popular βCocky Heroesβ series by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward! They can each be read as stanadlones since each one is written by a different author. π
βThree Thingsβ:
1.) I watched You Should Have Left this weekend and was pretty good!! An expensive rental, mind you – YIKES!! (but I told myself that had it been out at the theater I would have wanted to see it at as a date-night at the movie theater costs so… I reasoned it that way). π I love Kevin Bacon, and this one has a definite message, although it could get confusing at times – who was seeing what… if anything – was it a dream? Was it real? But that was the purpose. Discombobulating, not too scary, but definitely creepy!! What’s it about? A couple and their little girl needing a break from their hectic lives rent a secluded house in Wales for a few weeks. And while he suffers from a past stress, jealous thoughts, and nightmares, it all seems to amplify, here. Oh boy!! Was it worth the price for me? No, not really, but I still enjoyed it overall.
2.) I received my latest order of Angelino’s coffee that I love so much (I ordered Cinnamon Twist, Creme BrΓ»lΓ©e and Jamaican Me Crazy), but I realized my “Jamaican Me Crazy” flavor is DECAF!! GAHHHHHH!! How did I manage to select the wrong version? *sigh* Oh it’s delicious, and I can’t really tell the difference but now that I know there’s no caffeine in it, I’m giving it the stink eye!
3.) Time for coffee!!!! No not you, Jamaican Me Crazy!!! <— ππ€¨ *stink eye*

Decaf is my jam! Not only can I not physically have caffeinated coffee, I donβt like feeling the effects of caffeine. I recently forgot to order decaf a couple times and was reminded why itβs definitely not for me. π
1. I started reading Home Before Dark By Riley Sager this week, it releases tomorrow, so far so good!
2. Instead of mowing or raking leaves to make some extra cash, my daughter has begun sewing over the collar dog bandanas and scrunchies. Weβve not got a rhythm yet so sheβs put in a lot of hours so far, but sheβs loving it. I didnβt realize how much goes into a simple scrunchie! Took forever yesterday figuring out what we liked best and what she could do. Now Iβm learning new things too and she has her own page and everything.
3. Iβm so beyond behind with cleaning the house, a teensy bit on laundry, and need to buckle down on home cooked meals. Iβm horrible anymore at just planning out a quick menu for the week.
Also, a good couple hours was wasted figuring out a different machine and patterns and they (my Mom and daughter) said they never had any issues before. So, the only difference? Me. Iβm bad luck so I offered to leave bc I played the Ouiji as a kid and now I know the demon attached itself to me and that explains all these years of bad luck.
ππ€£π
I think that is SO fun that you two are enjoying and discovering a new hobby together. I REALLY wanted to sew my own stuff like my mom could (she’d make beautiful “secretary” blouses for work) – just gorgeous!
My mom tried teaching me how to sew when I was a young teen, and I’d get so frustrated when the thread and bobble would freak out and… I I’d have mini fits, and drive my mom crazy. LOL!! Finally I just went back to reading instead. π
I learned in home ec. But I donβt remember much and it really stresses me out too. I hate measuring stuff and threading and have the meltdowns too so I gave up. But I have 3 and someone will carry the talent. Itβs a super useful skill to have and my Mom wonβt always be here.
It’s an AMAZING skill and I wholeheartedly agree!!
LOL on the Ouija luck!!!! π
I did a clear out of my kitchen counters this weekend… I don’t have much clutter, but I did have a toaster (that I never use because I don’t eat bread right now), and a few other things that could just go in an empty drawer or cupboard (those big utensil thingies like a ladle and big spoons stuff like that) instead of sit on my counter since I only use those once a week anyway…
And now I love it. Ahhhhh… there’s something about minimalism that speaks to me. I’m not minimalist enough for real minimalists as I like all my cooking toys and makeups and clothes, but I’m getting better. π
Me too! Sounds wonderful. I feel mine piling up every day. π«
Iβm glad you didnβt get rid of your toaster though. That means you and bread have a chance of getting back together.
LOL!!! Well I DO love a super-low carb bread that I get at a health food store in Tampa when I go – and it looks and tastes like real bread.
Just no sugar and the majority of it is almond flour. When I get a few more loaves again, my toaster will be coming back down. π
I saw the pics on IG. the scrunchies looked hard! Super cute though!
Unbelievably hard. I thought theyβd be easier honestly. Depends which method you use. Closing it at the end is the real trick. She tried an easier method where you sewed right through fabric and elastic and it leaves just a tiny part flat where you see the seam. It looked okay on 1, but not so much on another. Just didnβt like the look as much as the one where you should actually hand sew it closed, bc a machine is a b*tch, but it looks so much better. You have to turn the insides of the ends out and curve it around the machine. Thereβs so much crap in the way and itβs hard to hold together. Then flip it and close it again on the outside. My Mom started closing them for her and I fed the elastic through and pinned, she did all the sewing and cutting. I think though, I found a super cool, different, totally easy way she should be able to knock out easier. Weβre gonna try it.
Hey, BOTM July picks are up! Of course I havenβt finished one that Iβve gotten there since Sun Down, but whoβs counting? Mexican Gothic is what Iβm going with. The Shadows by Alex North was a contender, but I really didnβt love Whisper Man, so Iβll wait and see feedback. And for romance, Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein. Looks ok, Iβm just still in a darker mood.
Iβm pretty sure 1 person has used my link btw, but Iβm always getting books for free every month or paying the price of 1 book for 2 or 2 books for 3. Such a freaking deal! So Iβm gonna share this link again in case anyone else wants in on this awesomeness. https://www.mybotm.com/w0bbo88qkc?show_box=true
How cool!!!!
1. I restarted House of Leaves last night but just made it through the intro before the fireworks started and I had to climb in bed with my poodle. The hardcover is too heavy for my spoiled wrists in bed so I read it at my desk!
2. I officially cancelled my readers retreat that was set for October. We’re going to try again late spring or summer. Texas is just a hot mess right now and having a dozen girls traveling from multiple airports is just too risky.
3. My butcher box comes this week! I get so excited just wondering what’s going to be in there. Hope they nail it this time because the steaks I got last month were awful. Everything else has been great though! At first I was disappointed I got chicken legs, but OMG they were amazing! I really hope I get some wings!
I just cooked up some beef tips with mushrooms and gravy, and I cooked a chicken adobo (Filipino Adobo) which is one of my favorites.
Both will go over cauliflower “rice” since I used to eat it with white rice.
What steaks were not great? I rarely eat steak even though I have a bunch still in my freezer from my boxes. I LOVE steak, but I don’t cook it well, so I wait until I can grill them and stuff.
So in the meantime I’ve just been eating the pork chops, chicken and roasts and beef tips that I can cook in the slow cooker. π
I love steak and it’s near impossible to mess up in a cast iron skillet. I actually prefer that over the grill. If you have an oven proof skillet, heat it in the over on 500 until it preheats, then put it on the burner, oil or butter it (I use Pam) and drop in your steaks. I usually have filets, which are thick, so I finish them off in the oven. The time depends on the thickness and your desired temp. I’ve always been a purist when it comes to red meat: salt, pepper, and maybe butter, but I made a steak sauce with parmesan, butter, and dijon last week that was to die for.
These were called “ranch steaks” I think, but they were worse than cheap sirloin (I love prime sirloin). And unlike cheap sirloin, they had no flavor. The first one I cooked medium rare and I could eat it but it was chewy. The second one I cooked medium and I couldn’t even chew it. And I did cut it against the grain.
I too, usually only go salt and pepper and butter. Your steak sauce that you made sounds INCREDIBLE though, so I may give that a try and do the steaks this weekend. π
When I used to eat potatoes, I’d bake one, then I’d pan fry a steak (medium rare), chop it up into little squares, load them into my split open baked potato, and drizzle Kens Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch all over it… and I think melted cheese sometimes too.
OMG SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!! My favorite comfort food meal. π Bad for you maybe but not really right? If you’re gonna do carbs, a baked potato is nice and wholesome, and a nice steak full of protein. YUMMMMMMY!!!
This is the recipe I used. Super simple and yummy! https://bit.ly/2VumhJL
Also… yes I’m happy to hear you’re waiting on your trip. I’m not planning on traveling until next year.
We also have a trip planned for Oslo at the end of Oct. too. The flights were super cheap so it won’t be the end of the world if we lose them but I’m really hoping we won’t!! I feel more comfortable about traveling somewhere else than risking a bunch of girls coming here. But chances are, we won’t go. I don’t thin this will even be close to over by then.
I just saw one of the newer covid maps, and I dont think it will. And apparently many countries in Europe, right now, do not want Americans visiting. Too much of a risk.
I sometimes see comments in places from people in other countries that are so bewildered by what we are doing. It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.
It also makes me want to rant, but I wont. Just stay home and when you dont wear a mask.
I’m not counting protesters in the stay home comment, that is different in my opinion. Just my opinion.
Yeah, there’s that. It might not even be a choice.
I just saw this article. This is where I live. And the people pictured here aren’t even local. They’re from neighboring college towns. That’s Texas for you. π https://bit.ly/2BlHZZL
I try, I really do, to understand it. It is hard to feel like a freedom is taken away and to delay gratification. But we all want to be able to go back to work at some point and some kind of back to normal and this just consistently delays that.
Plus, the harm it puts people in.
My state is getting stricter and may soon close down what it just re opened.
I did a little research on that image and it’s from 2016. Thank god. I guess they used it for shock value. Hopefully it doesn’t get that bad.
That’s good. I just want this to be over. Which realistically probably is with a vaccine, but still. Let’s help it along.
Also, I’d totally get the vaccine. I know many dont want to though.
I haven’t made up my mind yet. I think it’ll probably be a wait and see kind of situation for me.
That is most people I know.
Wow that sauce for steaks looks so yum R. Indulgent but yum. My hubs makes a mean steak sauce with cream, a dash of white wine and hot mustard. It’s kinda spicy cos of the hot mustard but goes well with steak.
Three things:
1. I’ve just started three weeks holiday from work. Middle of winter and don’t really want to go anywhere cos of covid so just staying in and reading, baking, knitting, relaxing π Might go for a few day trips just to get out of the house. We’re not on lockdown but need to stay sensible.
2. Baked a slice yesterday with home made lemon curd and shredded coconut on a kinda shortbread base. Lemons from my own backyard tree! So proud LOL.
3. Am thinking about upgrading my technology this year. New phone and laptop. Maybe even a new kindle????? I’m saving my pennies and eyeing off different models of stuff. Fun to browse online.
I love lemon curd!
Yeah it’s that perfect combo of sweet and tangy.
Jan!!!
I’m so awesomely jealous of your calm holiday!! Sounds like heaven to me.
Also I’m so jealous of your awesome lemon tree!!! I can’t wait until mine are old enough to produce fruit. I grew them from seeds, they are as tall as me (one is actually 10 foot tall at least) but they’re only about 4 or 5 years old so I’ve got a few years left before they “mature”.
And all my jealousy is the good-jealousy. I LOVE this for you!!!
π
Now I’m craving steak and lemon curd. Not a bad combo. π
