Time for Audiobook Favorites list #3 and this one just may be the biggest one yet! And I’m so excited, cause I’m officially a member of Audible and paid up for the whole year & now I have lots of credits!!! So I took it to Facebook, and received a plethora of recommendations AND Audible & audiobook tips.
And I just realized while building this list. Not only is this a composite of our favorite audiobooks, but better yet, our favorite narrators!!! Because we’ve all come to realize, a narrator can make or break an audiobook. SO YAY!!!!!! 😀
Maryse: Okay I just got a yearly Audible membership and I can choose 12 audiobooks right off the bat (and then 2 a month – I think… anyway). Eeeeeep!! HOLY. MOLY.
My question to you is… what are your absolute FAVORITE audiobooks? ANY genre please. I’m like a kid in a candy store and I don’t know what to pick.
Shain: Thanks for asking Maryse …this totally something I want to start too 🙂
P.S. You’ll see a whole bunch of recommendations for various super-deal audible programs too, so here they are for reference:
- Not a member of Audible? Get a free 30 day audible trial (which includes 1 free audiobook + 2 audible originals)
- AND! Audiobook Matchmaker!! <— Find out which of YOUR Kindle books are available as audiobooks at a BARGAIN-PRICE! This is how it works. Click on that link & Amazon will show you all of your Kindle books that are also available as an audiobook at a seriously discounted price. This way, you can switch back and forth, seamlessly between your ebooks and your audiobooks. VERY COOL!
Leslie M: Maryse, I am so excited you are into audio now. Isn’t it the best?? I really love the “Matchmaker” thingy as you can purchase audiobooks for $1.99!!! I don’t buy a lot of books, but audios for that price I cant resist.
Maryse: Ohhhh wait!!! I forgot about the $1.99 audiobook matches to our ebooks. I’m gonna try it right now since I haven’t in awhile… 😀 OH YAY!! I already just found “When I Was You” by Minka Kent for super-deal since I have the audiobook. I love that author and I love psych thrillers and now I get to listen to it.
Diana: Wait, audiobooks for $1.99?? What is this?
Maryse: Diana… the “Matchmaker” link is up there in the post, in the audiobooks section. Click it and it will show you audiobook deals for ebooks you already have. 😀
- Audible now has an “Escape” package membership (30 day free trial) – used to be called the “Romance” package <— this one is SO cool, and worth it (unlimited listening for all of the audiobooks in the program, and there are tons – kind of like Kindle Unlimited)!!
Angela: I highly recommend adding on Audible Escape if you plan to listen a lot. Sooooo many books are on there!
Susan: I suggest signing up for audible escape to take advantage of a lot of romance books.
Krystal: I love having the Audible Escape pkg because it works like a library borrowing system with multiple loans
Kimberly: Krystal I agree I have that also. Great Deal – I have had it awhile and LOVE IT!!
Lynette: I don’t know if you added the romance package but there is so many unlimited listening with that
AUDIOBOOK TIPS & TRICKS:
Heather: I would suggest not getting them all at once. Audible has specials throughout the year where you can get 2 books for 1 credit. 🙂
Amy: RE: For your yearly paid membership – The 12 credits is all you get for the year. You will also get 2 free Audible originals a month from a list Audible provides. I would suggest adding Audible Escape as they have a lot of great titles and that is much cheaper than a credit.
Also check the price prior to purchasing using a credit as a lot of audiobooks are cheaper if you already own the ebook. I save my credits for the 2 for 1 sales and audiobooks that are favorites from established series that I don’t plan on buying the ebook due to price (mostly traditionally published).
Maryse: Oh thank you!! GREAT tips. Much appreciate that!!!! <3
Katie: My main advice is to check the sample cause you might not like the voice of the reader and choose unabridged as then you get the whole story… also the mobile app has trophies to collect 😉🙂🙃
Krista: It definitely depends on the narrator
Jules: Anything narrated by Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. Book doesn’t even have to be good 😂🤣😂🤣
Dani: It’s all in the narrators.
Katie: Make sure you speed the narration up to 1.25 or 1.50. That’s conversation speed and you will enjoy it so much more. Trust me.
Maryse: I’m thrilled with the tip!!! I had no idea!
Cheri: Interesting to increase speed. I don’t know if I did that.
Katie: Yes. the normal speed is very slow for proper annunciation and it drives regular readers mad. The sped up version is like us reading to ourselves.
FAVORITE AUDIOBOOKS RECOMMENDATIONS:
Victoria: I love my audiobooks it is so easy to clean and take care of the baby while listening to them! My favorite books are Heartless by Marissa Meyer and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Both are so well narrated that you feel like you are watching a tv show instead of just listening to the book!

Amy: I could listen to Davina Porter for hours and never tire of her voice. I’ve actually downloaded other books just because it was her reading them. She did amazing with Anna Karenina.

Jaimee: Agree! Her narration is my favourite!
Rachel: The best Audio book I have ever listened to is Stephen King’s It performed by Steven Weber. Amazing!!
Robin: The best audio book was Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel. Books narrated by Andi Ardnt and Sebastian York are good. A bad narrator can really kill a book’s vibe. I listened to Vicious by LJ Shen and the male narrator often sound like he was stoned, when the character’s voice was supposed to be “sexy”. Through the entire book I couldn’t stop focusing on how Chistian Rummel was a very poor choice and it pulled me out of the story.
Jules: Anything narrated by Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. Book doesn’t even have to be good 😂🤣😂🤣

Reanell: Making Faces and The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon!! The narrators are AMAZING!!

Carina: Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life. So good. Great audio
Kris: It’s the BEST! 🤩 I love all non-fiction, self-development…so Rachel Hollis’s books are great in audio for that, and you can listen over and over again (or maybe that’s just me 😬)!💜
Maryse: Self help is my favorite in audiobooks (at least so far – I’m not very experienced in other genres yet) and I listen to them repeatedly too. 😀
Kris: Maryse It’s worth every penny! Love! Enjoy whatever you choose! 💜
Kris: I have another one! Super Attractor: Methods for Manifesting a Life Beyond Your Wildest Dreams by Gabby Bernstein! Life changing 💜💜💜

I’m a very picky audio book listener and some of my favorite are full cast because it’s like a radio show. Or narrators that can do a full range of characters – Julia Whelan and Suzy Jackson, Bahni Turpin, Tavia Gilbert (she did a phenomenal job on the Jeaniene Frost books – Cat and Bones) just to make a few of my favorites narrators.
For full cast narrations you can’t beat World War Z. It’s just amazing as an audio book as it’s supposed to be a oral history. Make sure you get the unabridged version.
Another full cast audiobook series that was just amazing was the Themis files, starting with Sleeping Giants by Slyvain Nueval. A young girl finds a gigantic metal hand buried and then grows up to study it. And it’s just an excellent book series and very well done audio series.
Some of the books I like to get from audible are their originals because you know you can’t check them out from the library. I loved Locke and Key by Joe Hill – another full cast. And my very first audio book ever. Another great audible original is Evil Has A Name by Paul Holes about the golden state killer (I also recommend Find me in the dark by Michelle MacNamara in audio).
I loved Nos4A2 by Joe Hill read by Kate Mulgrew – her narration just added to the creep out factor of this one.
Another absolutely fabulous one was My Lady Jane. The narrator Katherine Kellgren is phenomenal- and it was hilarious. I think better as audio than it ever could have been as a paper book for me.
These are just some of my top favorites and the genres are all over the place but I just look for great narration with a good story. And I am going to be looking up these recommendations for my next listen – thanks for putting this list together!!!
I also second Sadie and the Illuminae Books. Those are fantastic full cast audio books.
Maryse, please, oh please, add “Audiobooks” to your quick links. I know I’ll want to reference some of these audiobook lists and comments again soon, so a link would help me find it on your site. Help!
I love listening to audiobooks on my commute to and from work. Question about audible membership, when you use credits to get a book, is it yours to keep or is it like kindle unlimited in that after you have so many downloaded they return back to audible?
Yours to keep!!! 🙂
If you’re part of the “Escape” package, THOSE are like Kindle Unlimited… listen to them with a monthly membership fee, and return them for more as you go.
Why is Melt For You by JT Geissinger not on this list? The narrator is fantastic! One of my favorite audiobooks.
