UPDATED 09-25-19!!! Just scroll down to the dated UPDATED notice for the newest recommendations. π
Since we’re on a bit of an m/m roll right now, I thought I’d put this up ’cause I’ve been getting requests for more!
Anne: Hey Maryse β loving the m/m reads that you have recommended recently. Do you think you could put together a βTop Tenβ list fir those of us looking for more? Thanks!
Kishta: Hey Maryse! I loved this list and made it through the whole thing. I was wondering if youβll be doing an updated version or if you can give me some recommendations.
Dee:Β My firstΒ M/MΒ and I am loving it! I will be looking for more.
Sara:Β Iβm seriously addicted to m/m genre right now.. and Iβm running out of books!!
Tracie:Β Β This list makes me happy!
Tanya:Β I am so glad you put up this list. I was actually going to ask you if you had one. I donβt know why I love the m/m genre so much but I do. Im glad to see Iβm not alone.
Rebecka:Β I will now proceed to look up all the other books and authors youβve mentioned in this thread because to my utter suprise m/m romance might just be my new addiction. (<— side note: on a past discussion we had about a favorite m/m book – so many of the recommendations show up below!)
Now, I’m still a total “newb” (noob?) to this genre, π but it seems that every m/m book I’ve read so far, I’ve loved! And since I’m on a bit of an m/m kick I’m gonna rotate them in to my reading schedule. Not exclusively, mind you (I still love my bossy alpha males that love their women and drive ’em crazy) but the m/m’s are totally doing it for me, too. I haven’t hit a bad one in the bunch.
Of course, it helps to have such adamant “m/m experienced” fellow readers recommending only the best to me. π So thank you guys for making my “taste-testing another romance genre” such a great reading experience. I’m dedicating this list to you! Plus, the list-lover in me is thrilled to have your recommendations all on one page, so I can click my heart out, whenever I’m in the mood for another one (see it below)!
I always knew there was a large and dedicated readership for gay romance, but what once surprised me was that so many of the readers are women! In fact, many of the books are written by women, too. Who knew!?? I was curious and certainly titillated ’cause the reactions and enthusiasm for these books were akin to my HUGE reaction and love of my own m/f favorites. The only difference? The readers were falling in love with the men that were falling for each other.
Elaine: Love my M/M romances
Tracie: I love my m/m too. Almost too much!!
Traci B.Β Maryse I blame you for my m/m romance addictionβ¦ever since you recommended the cut and run series I have been hookedβ¦my friends probably think Iβm weird when I told them I read these types of books.
Jill:Β I finished Try by Ella Frank last Thursday morning but have been mourning the βlossβ of those characters ever since as well. I tried to start an NA book on Saturday, but it wasnβt doing it for me.Β Β So went back to this genre last night.
Jennifer: …Β I hadn’t read m/m romance before recommendations on your website….opened a whole new world!
I even asked my friend Jackie (way back when I first discovered this)… How? I mean, how can a female reader fall in love with a character who could never love her back in that way? I mean I know book characters can’t “really” love us back π but the “realistic feel” of it is still always there. I guess the “fantasy” of it could be real, right? But with gay romance, I wondered, where’s the fantasy for women?Β The thought ofΒ women falling so hard and becoming so addicted to these love stories about these gay heroes blew me away. But I wanted in. I had to know!!!
And I found out. It’s soooo easy to fall in love with them and it became so obvious! I realized, when I read, I become one with whoever the main character is. Man, woman… whatever. It doesn’t seem to make a difference if the writing is good and I’m into the story. I go along for the ride, and whether the character is a he or a she, if they’re falling in love (or scared, sad, or antsy or crushing hard… whatever the feeling is), I’m feeling it too!
It never fails, my friends! If you’re needing a new reading “genre” change, a refresher, and/or a whole new perspective on love, give these a go! Although in the end, my perspective has come to the conclusion that love is love. It’s intense, exciting, emotional and heart-wrenching. It’s scary and wonderful no matter who’s experiencing it. And I LOVE loving them… as they love each other.
So while I’m still going to be reading my awesomely sexy/angsty/alpha/Dom’s and their women that “feel like me” romance reads, I’m also going to be throwing a few m/m’s into the mix, too. These have done my reading enjoyment a whole lotta good, and I have so many to look forward to, below!
And it would appear so many of you are with me on this!
LATEST READER RECOMMENDATIONS – UPDATED 09-25-2019!!!
Cristy:Β MY FAVORITE SERIES: More Heat than the Sun by John Wiltshire. The whole series has an average rate of 4.4 (Goodreads).
It is a story about Ben and Nik, and theyβve been sleeping together for the last 4 years. At first, it is only for sex but as the story goes on, IT IS SO MUCH MORE. There story plot and twist is fantastic! It will blow your mind. You will not regret reading these books and the characters are SOOOO unique in their own ways. Read this please, it is worthy of your time!! It is insanely good!
Aida: Hi Thank you so much for the list! You should also add The Administration series by Manna Francis. Itβs one hell of series amazing!
Mischa: Iβve been reading the best of dreamspinner press. 5 books…. All bundles have been super awesome so far. Plus lots of different types and storylines since multitude of authors. Highly recommend!
Morgana: I definitely recommend the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat. Itβs a genre all on itβs own, deals with two princes, power play, complex characters, slavery, hidden identities and a great freaking plot.
Katia: I highly recommend Captive prince trilogy by C.S.Pacat. This is historical romance with very intriguing plot and so captivating caracters! It is slow burn but very very worth it! Chek it out!!!
Ashley: You should definitely try The Captive Prince series, by C. S. Pacat.
Ashley: Where is Heidi Belleau? The absolute best m/m author, in my opinion, and Iβve read extensively in this genre.
Rhonda: Have read Nicholas Bella New Haven series… OMG . Once you start you donβt want it to finish. It will grab you. Highly recommended.
Barbara: Iβve read most of these and a lot of my favorites are listed. Some of my favorites that are not on the list is Beyond Complicated and the Southern scrimmage series by Mercy Celeste. They are so freaking good! I could not put Bootleg Diva: Confessions of a Quarterback Princess by Levi Brody (A Southern Scrimmage Biography Book 4) down!!
L. Smith: Him and Us by Sarina Bowen are also great reads!
Jennifer: More recommendations: HIM by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowmen is amazing. Hockey players.
Misty: βNothing Specialβ Series by A.E Via is an awesome read for those who love cops stories. I enjoyed it a lot and youβll love the characters. Itβs a feel good reads so you should check it out π
Robyn:Β Hiβ¦.I recently started reading full on m/m romance books and have come across some fantastic reads. Probably one of the 1st authors I read was Sloane Kennedy. I inhaled her Escort series then went on to start the Finding series. After the last story in the Escort series I paid for and downloaded ALL of the Finding series and also the next lot of crossover stories in the Barretti Security series. I got a tad pissed with her because all of these series cross over and she changes her writing style. She changed from the 3rd person to 1st person and for a long time (2 weeksβ¦.well itβs a long time for me) I decided to continue on with the seriesβ¦And Iβm so damn glad I didβ¦.LOVE THEM!!!
So other authors and their series are Riley Hart. Her Crossroads, Blackcreek and Broken Pieces series are great. Loved Ella Franks Temptation series and no word of a lie as Iβm typing this now I just found out she has a 4th book in the series to be released May 9th..I must say the new book covers are soooo much better then the previous too.. Her Sunset Cove series I am listening to …Well worth a listen or read.
Jennifer: And Crossroads by Riley Hartβ¦GFY x2β¦awesome sexy stories.
Maryse: Yessss!! I absolutely LOVED Collide from her Blackcreek series!!!!!
So just some other authors nowβ¦
- A.E. Via
- RG Alexander
- Sara York
- Aimee Nicole Walker
- Ann Lister
- Cara Dee
- Jenna Byrne
- Tere Michaels
- Anna Zabo
So a lot of these authors write in the 1st person which I may have mentionedβ¦But after I got over my hissy fit and aversion to that style of writing I must admit I love the storiesβ¦ I have never cried so damn much reading romance books (and Iβve read a bloody lot in my nearly 50 years) as I have since reading m/m romance books. I also just started reading with Kindle and a lot of these books you can get using a Kindle Unlimited accountβ¦ Well worth it. So thanks for listening to me waffle on and please add other authors as I seem to be running out of material to read.
Gea: desperately looking for new awwsome mm reads so this is helpful. I havent seen Tiffany Reisz The Angel: A Sexy Romance (The Original Sinners Book 2) anywhere and as it is my very first mm read and it has Reiszs masterpiece writing I wholeheartedly recommend it though the series should be read in order.
- The Understatement of the Year (Ivy Years #3) (The Ivy Years)Β also exquisite.
- Captive Prince trilogy,
- Him and Us and
- Ella Franks Try.
- A Matter of Time series β¦so many awesome books out there
Hal: I highly recommend Danny Culpepperβs Straight Man Gay series. There are 3 books so far, and I love all of them.
Kika: …for the ones who love βgay for youβ stories you should read Straight Man Gay and Straight Man Gay Two by Danny Culpepper. Itβs soooo good. Full of adorable and unforgettable characters.
Teresa: Highly recommend the Infected series by Andrea Speed. It is a m/m series I discovered this year that has a different take on Shifters. In this series being a shifter is the result of a disease. Each book in the series has 1-2 mysteries to solve. The secondary characters add great dimension to the series. First book in the series is Infected: Prey.
Jennifer: Erin OβQuinn has two great historical seriesβ¦the first is a 2 book series set in Roman times and the second the Gaslight mystery series set in the 1800s. Not a fan of her Nevada series.
- Anything by S.E. Jakes but especially the Hell or Highwater series.
- Shades of Gray by Brooke McKinley) was a good one by Brooke McKinley β¦ I like a good price M/M in general seems to be more expensive but sometimes worth it.
- Kindle Alexander has some good ones, Always was a great full, lifetime love story.
Jennifer: Kora Knightβs Upending Tad series is HOT! Novellas, about 5, with a GFY themeβ¦addicting and did I say HOT?!
Damilola: Donβt mind the name, am nigerian and female and yes africans read books too. Just found this list and was so pleased, started reading m/m almost a year ago out of curiousity and havenβt been able to read a m/f ever since. Have read over 80 m/m books since, have read most books on this list but would have to read some that were recomended. Just very resently read my 1st vampire m/m and boy was it super hot, its called βcroninβs keyβ. Should definitely be added to this list. Have read a lot of less than awesome m/ms along the way but am really addicted to this genre.
Mischa: LatakiaΒ and The Fence And Then The TreesΒ are both awesome. No steamy sex scenes but slow build with great story lines.
Jennifer: Just discovered a new author..to meβ¦with great stories. They are relatively short..about 150 pages but great stories. Some GFY genre by T. Baggins or S.A. Reid… same books are attributed to both names. Protection is set in 1930s British prison. Well fleshed out characters, steamy scenes and true love storyβ¦also Something Different (M/M Romance). Highly recommend.
Mischa: Jennifer, thanks for the T. Baggins Protection recommendation. Iβm looking for some new material that doesnβt cost $6 for 100 pages. Recommendations?
Kika: Hi everyone. I love the mm genre and have been almost entirely devoted to it for the past few years. If anyone loves amazingly well written stories with quirky humour and characters you never forget you should try Ethan Day. I swear by his books ( my all time favourites are Sno Ho and its sequel Life in Fusion). These books just m a me my day every time I read them.
Katie: I love this genre! βCurious (The Finn Factor Book 1)β by RG Alexander just knocked my socks off β GFY between two alphas with dirty mouths make for some STEAMY scenes. Wowsa. Also liked βHot Headβ by Damon Suede, and the βTryβ series by Ella Frank. Thanks for the recs, Maryse!
Beth:Β I just read a really good m/m paranormal book that just came out. I think you would like it. Axel’s Pup (Werewolves & Dragons Book 1)Β by Kim Dare.Β It really gets into the psychology of BDSM/and pack hierarchy. Very well done.
Jennifer: The Straight Guys series by Alessandra Hazard are quick, easy reads with a GFY themeβ¦this is my favorite in M/M romance.
Ashley: Also, there are two independently published authors who are terrific: Harper Fox and Jordan Hawk. Harper Foxβs m/m romances are set in the British Islands and have a beautiful sense of place. Hawkβs stories are also paranormal mysteries; her Widdershins trilogy is one of my all-time favorite reads. Thanks for the recommendations!
Amy: I have read many of these. A couple I have never heard of so I need to check them out. Thank you for the suggestions. My favorite M/M series is The Texas Series by RJ Scott. I have read the first 4 a few times.
Hope:
- Sacrati by Kate Sherwood
- In the company of shadows by Ais and Santino.
Rose: Love this genre! You should check out the Spy vs. Spook series by Tinnean.
Jennifer: Avril Ashtonβs latest series βWatch Meβ are really good. Different descriptions of characters falling in love but each book is better than their synopsis. Two books out so far.
Mischa: Dark and disturbing but addictive: Fallocaust series by Quil Carter. Really innovative storyline that sucks you in and makes you want to forget. Books have cliffhangers and thus far no happy endings. …
Natassia: …Crossing Borders by Z. A Maxfield, this is one of my favourite books form one of of my fav authors.
Kate: Just finished Beneath the Stain by Amy Lane. OMG this oneβ¦ This is one of the best books Iβve ever read. Mackey and Trav are maybe my favorite couple of all time (sorry Keira and Kellen). The story gave me the same feel as the early relationship between V and Butch in BDB, really intimate. I loved, loved, loved this book.
Loni: If you want a dark m/m story and one that stays with you try Violence Begets. When I finished that book I just sat there, I couldnβt handle stating a new book. I thought the author did an amazing job
MARYSE’S M/M FAVORITES (well so far these are the only one’s I’ve read so I’ll have to add more to this list…) π but OMG they’ve all been SO great!!!!
I’m *thinking* my favorites are going to the “gay for you” books, ’cause they have that added touch of angst/forbidden love angle. “Gay for you” you ask? Yep!! I just learned that term, too. These are the ones where one of the guys has been straight, never had any inclination towards another man but suddenly (or slowly) realizes his feelings for one (usually a best friend) is feeling a whole lot like attraction. Like a crush. Maybe even love. And ohhhh the angst and drama that comes from that realization. Gay? He still insists no. But “gay for him“? Er… maybe… yes. And I’m loving those!!!
Bear, Otter, and the KidΒ by TJ Klune <— my first official m/m romance read and I LOVED it (and them) like crazy. Another “gay for you” read. Best friend’s older brother… straight guy crushing and confused, etc.. etc..Β Sure… it had a few very detailed moments that had my inexperienced m/m self blushing but I felt like these guys were my family. And I was equally crushing on Otter and totally felt like I was “Bear”. As I described it to a fellow reader: “BOATK is funny and had me laughing like crazy (Bearβs thoughtsβ¦) … it was super steamy for me in terms of that delicious tension between the two. Now, donβt be put off by the odd title and cutsie coverβ¦ this book is AWESOME and if you love m/m it will rock your world. Hilarious, angsty, the romantic tension is INTENSEβ¦ and itβs super sexy steamy!!!!”. Β (here’s my review – you’ll see) and Tracie agrees saying: “I just read Bear Otter and I loved it hard!!!”
Who We AreΒ by TJ Klune <— the sequel to the first and just as perfect!! I can’t say anymore here, ’cause ya gotta read the first one for this one to have that *oomph*, too. This series has that perfect amount of angst, indecision and intense want. A warmhearted feel in all wrapped up in funny! LOVE LOVE LOVE!Β Here’s my review. And see, Lauren agrees: “These books have been on my TBR list for awhile and I have held off, honestly due to the covers being a bit cheesy (i know, Iknow donβt judge a book by its cover, I couldnβt help it). But I am so happy you recommended them and therefore I read them. I loved them and think they have made my list of all time favorites. I am now sharing how great they are with everyone I work with so they can enjoy in the fun and angst.”
Collide (Blackcreek Series)Β by Riley Hart
<— A “gay for you” romance and I loved it. Super sexy (and detailed *waggles eyebrows*), angsty too, but nothing too over-the-top. I could see this… perfectly. And of course I fell for both of them! A very modern, contemporary romance feel to the writing and I didn’t feel “lost” or out of my element in the least. Here’s my review.
Keeping Promise RockΒ by Amy Lane <— this was one of the most adamantly recommended m/m books by some of the m/m enthusiasts in my crew and I sat on it for a year and a half. What the heck was I waiting for?? *sigh* No matter, I read it yesterday and spent an AMAZING day with friends, loving them, and in love with them! (Here’s my review)
Beyond EdenΒ by Kele MoonΒ <— I don’t know just how much this one counts in the m/m category, because they are both involved (sharing) a female, but let’s just say, this is some of the most INTENSE m/m love I’ve ever read, and so I think it fits perfectly. In fact, had I been the girl… I think I would have been jealous. π They are a definite threesome (and it gets hardcore BDSM at times for one of ’em), but I couldn’t figure out where one started and the other… well, you get the picture. π And Anna agrees: “I loved Beyond Eden sooooo much! The intensity in that book was definitely felt by me!”Β Here’s my review. P.S. I haven’t read this one yet (Finding Eden (Eden, Book Two), but it’s the prequel even thought it came out after, and it’s JUST the guys.
Lover At Last: A Novel of the Black Dagger BrotherhoodΒ by J.R. Ward <— my VERY first experience with potential m/m romance was with this author (back in 2009). BUT, it wasn’t this book. It was Butch and V’s titillating attraction to each other that kept teasing us as the series ramped up. I had never experienced something like that before but privately, I was so excited at what I might run into. π And she still kind of teases us with them (I’m thinking another version of “gay for you”), but alas, “the WARDen” gave them “shellans” (wives) instead. π No worries. She provided us with TWO more male characters that had all of that delicious m/m angsty potential and teased us over the course of a few more books. And then she wrote this one! Not entirely m/m because it involves other characters and romance side-stories, but still had plenty of full-on m/m love! Maybe not enough in comparison to the other books on this list, but it fits, I’m sure there’s more to come with these guys! (here’s my review)
M/M READER RECOMMENDATIONS: (P.S. most of these also have an insane amount of awesome reviews on Amazon – I suspect we can’t goΒ wrongΒ with any of ’em)
- Rough Canvas: 6 (Nature of Desire)Β by Joey W. Hill <— Lynne HIGHLY HIGHLY recommends this one, and I’m thinking I HAVE to read this ASAP!! She is quite passionate and I’m excited!
Lynne: “Oh Maryse, the BEST M/M book EVER has to be Rough Canvas by Joey Hill. I just canβt put into words how absolutely BEAUTIFUL it was. Read some of the many 5 star reviews on Amazon, they say it so much better than I can. I donβt mean to sound corny, but I think it was just a Masterpiece. Please give it a try, I really think youβll agree.”
Carrie: “My fav m/m read is Rough Canvas by Joey W. Hill. Β The last 1/3 of the book… I locked myself in a room and forbid anyone to interrupt the roller coaster ride. Β Oh the angst! Β BDSM-lite, btw. Β The romance was the focus and so intense! Β Sigh. Β Love Marcus and Thomas.Β …Some previous characters appear briefly in the book but Rough Canvas stands alone.”
Bitchie: “Rough Canvas can totally be read as stand alone, itβs the only book Iβve read in that series, and I wasnβt lost at all.”
- The Locker RoomΒ by Amy Lane <— recommended by Kele. (Side note from Maryse: I’ll take it!!!!) Kele also mentions it’s a great intro book for m/m newbies a
Kele: “Have you read Locker Room byΒ Amy LaneΒ ? One of my fav books of all time!Β I cried for days! Lol.”
Sara: “Another favorite of mine is Amy Laneβs Locker Room. I have so many I loveβ¦.”
- Cut & Run (Cut & Run Series)Β byΒ Madeleine UrbanΒ &Β Abigail Roux <—Β Jackie warns: “Cut and Run starts off with two guys who really donβt like each other. Their relationship develops gradually over the books. i much prefer the latter books, but youβd need to read the early ones first to appreciate their relationship.” I’m so happy she said that ’cause I was struggling a touch with book #1 (but I barely gave it a chance). Considering how many times this series comes up as an absolute m/m favorite, I’m going back in!! Oh and here is theΒ Cut & Run Series Reading Order.
Tracie says: “I swear on all that is holyΒ MaryseΒ you will FALL IN TOTAL LOVE will all things Ty and Zane”.
Jill: Iβm just going to jump in here quickly just to say that I totally was with you on not feeling the first book in Cut and Run series. I mean not at all. I thought Tracie was crazy. π But she convinced me to read the second book. If I didnβt like it I could be done. Well it had me hooked! Loved it! The lack of connection that I was completely feeling between the two of them was there. It honestly was like it was written by someone else. It was perfect from all aspects β suspense, the feels, romance, tension, and love. I read the rest of the series straight through and am now anxious for the final book in March. *OK. Sorry. Long ramble. Just had to get that out there.* π
Brittany: “Ty and Zane are the ultimate torchered alpha males!”
- Tigers & DevilsΒ by Sean Kennedy <— Jackie recommends this one saying:
Jackie: “Did you read Tigers and Devils by sean Kennedy? – totally different story from BOATK but has the same feel – lots of humour and ‘real’ characters. Β Another of my favourite m/m books. xxx”
- Conquest (Conquest Series)Β by S.J. Frost <— and I think this is Jackie’s all time favorite m/m series.
Jackie: “I read quite alot from this genre. Β Have you ever read the Conquest Series by S J Frost. Β Its about a rock group – similar feel to ‘Sinners’ but m/m. I adored that series – easpecially Evan and Jesse. Β That will be my next ‘nag the ass off Maryse’ project.” <— hehe. Yeah… I know. I take my time with this genre, but I’m loving it! (and here’s theΒ Conquest Series Reading Order)
Bitchie: “Jackie, I love SJ Frost, her conquest books are some of my favorites, especially the very first two!”
Lisa: “Absolutely LOVED The Conquest series by S.J. Frost, I have re read the Conquest series many times. Love Jesse and Evan”
- Try (Temptation Series)Β by Ella Frank <— Maria says: “Ladies don’t forget about Try byΒ Ella FrankΒ one of my favorites this year!!” and Tracie agrees:
Tracie: “Maria I read Try and am in love with Logan and Tate!!”
Jessica: “Try by EF got me hooked on M/M.”
Dee: “So I checked out your list and picked up “Try” OMG. I cannot put it down and it certainly is pulling me out of that book funk. Β My first M/M and I am loving it! I will be looking for more. Β This is right up there with my rock stars π ”
Dianne: Hi Maryse. I know Iβm like more than three years late but I canβt help but feel happy that Frankβs Try is included! I was scrolling just know and actually looking for it, hehe. It was my first m/m and I love it. I love the characters and their lines, especially the lines. I laughed and cried a lot. It was amazing. Now, Iβm going to download a few from your list. Haha! Thank you and have a great day x
- Catch a Ghost (Hell or High Water)Β by SE Jakes <—-Β Brittany recommends: “For those of you who love Cut and Run, you have to try Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone by SE Jakes. They are great!!“
Maura agrees! “I also enjoyed SE Jakes Hell or High Water series immensely.”
- Long Time Gone (Hell or High Water )Β by SE Jakes
- Starfish and CoffeeΒ by Kele Moon <— Kristen suggests this one: “If you’re seriously going to try another m/m book, then I have to recommend “Starfish and Coffee.” Β It’s by one of your favs, Kele Moon!” (yep! I’m on it!!)
- Eight Second CowboyΒ by Piper Kay <— Cristiane says this one was her first and she’s got the m/m bug!
Cristiane: “I have never read one until you recommended Eight Second Cowboyβ¦by Piper kay. I enjoy a lot it was short but sweet.I actually loved it. So I totally will read others M/M I got the bug too.”
- The Nothingness of BenΒ by Brad Boney <— Brittany recommends this one and…
- The ReturnΒ by Brad Boney <— this one and…
- Texas PrideΒ by Kindle Alexander <— this one saying:
Brittany: “The Nothingness of Ben and The Return by Brad Boney are great as well as anything by Kindle Alexander (Texas Pride has a cowboy and a famous actorβyummy!)”
- Promises (Coda Series)Β by Marie Sexton <— Kindlelover popped in to recommend this one (and wants more recommendations, too!)
Kindlelover: “Ever read Promises (Coda series)? I loved it!! Excellent love story.”
Christy: “One of my first M/M, but the slow build up to their relationship made it my fav!”
- Rode Hard, Put Up Wet (Rough Riders)Β byΒ Lorelei James <—- Selena went NUTS for this one!
Selena: “I read this book back in like 2006 or something & it was the first M/M book Iβve ever read. I LOVED IT! I couldnβt get enough. Iβm pretty sure I read it like 10 times. The Male/Male sex scene was raw & hard & primal. Nothing like the beautiful Historical Romances or sexy Eroticas Iβve ever read. That book introduced me into a new type of Romance. Iβm a M/M junkie now! Read M/M all the time!”
Christine: “The Rough Rider series, which is SO fantastic in its own right, has a bit of the MM in the first book of the series…a truly hot scene. The actual book dedicated to it in the series is Rough, Raw and Ready. It is actually a relationship between a woman, a man who is bi and a gay man. It is a great story and, true to the series, is soooooo hot. Enjoy!”
- Rough, Raw and Ready (Rough Riders) by Lorelei James <— this is the one Christine points out:
Christine: “The actual book dedicated to it in the series is Rough, Raw and Ready. It is actually a relationship between a woman, a man who is bi and a gay man. It is a great story and, true to the series, is soooooo hot”
- Str8te BoysΒ by Evangeline Anderson <— Siana liked this one:
Siana: “Str8te Boys by Evangelina Anderson is a good gay for you (straight friends falling in love) novella, if you like steamy M/M books.”
- Chase in Shadow (Johnnies)Β by Amy Lane <— It made Jazz cry! “I read a book a few months ago that was M/M but a real tear-jerker called Chase in Shadow by Amy Lane. It’s one of those books that stay with you.”
- Tell Me It’s RealΒ by TJ Klune <— Rebecka liked this one: “M/m? Have you read TJ Klune’s new book Tell Me It’s Real? It was a sweet read.” I love TJ Klune!
- The IslandΒ by Lisa Henry <— recommended by Jane:
Jane: “The most emotionally intense book that I’ve read in recent months, was The Island, by Lisa Henry. It’sΒ M/M. It grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the end and even then, it stuck in my head. I was still thinking about the characters a week later – and now, having skimmed the reviews again, I’mΒ right back in that headspace.
It’s not an easy read, it takes you to dark spaces. Morality is blurred. Fear is real. Like reading Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas, it messes with your head a little – and that’s what makes it such a compelling read.
Don’t just take my word, check out the glowing reviews on Goodreads π I hope you read it – I know you’d ‘get’ it :-)”
- A Note in the MarginΒ by Isabelle Rowan <— recommended by Dee who says:
Dee: “I recently read a book that was by a new author and I would love for you to review it. I have no connections to the author. I am just one of those readers that when I find a book that rattles my world, I want to shout it to the rooftops. This book grabbed my heart, squeezed it dry and then inflated it until I thought it would burst. The authors name is Isabelle Rowan and the book is called “A note in the margin”.
I don’t know if the authors have to send you a copy or what but this is one of the best ( the best in my opinion ) of this year. It is anΒ M/MΒ story that has sooooo much more that erotica …when I got to the final 3rd of the book I wept so hard I couldn’t see the pages, it’s THAT good.”
- The Forbidden RoomΒ byΒ J. P. Barnaby <— Sara loved these: “I couldn’t get the characters out of my head. Β these books definitely give you a roller coaster of feelings throughout the two books (not including the short story) Happy, Sad, Frustrated at the lack of communication.” (here’s the series reading order)
- Faith & Fidelity (Faith, Love and Devotion)Β byΒ Tere Michaels <— Bitchie suggests this one:
Bitchie: “And since you are opening your minds to a βdifferentβ sort of romance read, and you like angsty reads, might I recommend Faith & Fidelity by Tere Michaels to you all?
Itβs about a single father, who recently lost his wife, the only woman he has ever loved, in a tragic accident. He is just getting by, going day by day, when he meets another man- a cop. Both men are straight, both men are depressed and just down on life, and they form a friendship in their sadness. And then it becomes more, and itβs just so sweet and romantic and angsty and GOOD.“
- Love & Loyalty (Faith, Love and Devotion) by Tere Michales <— And Kele agrees with the “Bitchie” (for the book above) saying:
Kele: “That one consumed me! Another one of my all time favorites. The sex is tamer than some. . . but the tension. The story. All three books are awesome. I really loved it. . . I’d HIGHLY rec it. . . and it’s a good. . .tame. . . starter series. . . It’s one of the ones I’d put on a MM noob starter list. . .”
- Duty & Devotion (Faith, Love and Devotion)Β by Tere Michaels <— and here’s the other one in the series. Now I gotta figure out the order. I *think* I’ve got it right, here but I’ll double check.
- Cherish (Faith, Love & Devotion) by Tere Michaels <— and another!!! π
- BarebackΒ by Chris Owen <— Jackie recommends this one and I totally remember her (and a few from our crew) freaking out over something in this… she says:

- Natural DisasterΒ by Chris Owen <— this is the one she says is gonna hurt!
- A Matter of Time: Vol. 1Β by Mary Calmes <— Sara says:

Maura: “Damon Suede’s Hot Head is killer”
- Zero at the BoneΒ by Jane Seville <— Anna recommends it saying: “…itβs a GFY (gay for you) plus an awesome hit man turns protector story.”
- Genetic AttractionΒ by Tara Lain <— Anna also recommends this one:
Anna: “I also loved Genetic Attraction by Tara Lain- itβs an MMF, story ultimately, but the M/M portion of it is very strong, and one of the guys is straight only for the female in the story, so itβs an interesting reversal of the GFY. ” (gay for you)
- Thomas’s Choice (Scanguards Vampires #8)Β by Tina Folsom <— Sarah loved this one: “You should read Thomasβs Choice by Tina Folsom. I loved it.”
- The Parting Glass (In a Dark Wood)Β by Josh Lanyon <— I chose this one ’cause I liked the cover π but Catherine recommends any by this author saying:
Catherine: “Any book, series or short story by Josh Lanyon. Not always a true HEA but always a good story. M/M romance with a mystery or two on the side.”
- AftermathΒ by Cara Dee <— Tracie suggested this book saying: “Aftermath by Cara Dee is excellent.”
Tracey (different one!) says: “I am also reading Aftermath by Cara Dee. Just started, but loving it so far!”
Maryse: YESSSSS!! I LOVED THIS ONE too!! Here’s my Book Review.
- Chase the StormΒ by V.M. Waitt <— Tracie says “…also great”
- Second ChancesΒ by T.A. Webb <— and she also recommends this one saying: “Second Chances by T A Webb also one of my faves. It appears as though GFY is my favorite theme and like you I had no idea what that meant.”
- Fall For Me (The Rock Gods)Β by Ann Lister <— and one more recommendation from Tracie:
Tracie: “You should also check out Fall for Me by Ann Lister. Definitely in the GFY category and it was awesome!! Thanks for the list!”
- Six Ways from Sunday (Southern Scrimmage)Β by Mercy Celeste <— and Tanya loved this one: “…really need to check out Six Ways From Sunday by Mercy Celeste. It hits you where it hurts, but in a good wayΒ Β Very emotional read.”
- Aaron (A Survivor Story) by JP Barnaby <— Recommended by Rebecka:
Rebecka: “Aaron by JP Barnaby is heartbreaking and wonderful. I cannot decribe how good this made my heart hurt. I follow her (stalk her writing progress) on FB so I know the follow up is in the works.”
- 3 by Jacob Flores <— Also a suggestion by Rebecka: “3 by Jacob Flores had the affair thing going but with a twist. It was surprisingly deep and thoughtful and I loved every page.”
- Chaser by Rick R. Reed <— Rebecca likes this one, too saying “… it was an unexpected.”
- Power Exchange by AJ Rose <— Jackie adds these to the list:
Jackie: “Be sure to add Power Exchange and Safeword to your list. They are both by A J Rose. You will love them. The covers alone are enough to sell the books, but they are great reads. I LOVED them!”

- Travis (Alluring Indulgence) by Nicole Edwards <— Melissa loved this one: ” would recommend the Alluring Indulgence series! The 3rd book is Travis and it is totally HOT.”

- Gold DiggerΒ byΒ Aleksandr Voinov <—Mehrnaz also suggest this one! “Gold Digger by Alexander Voinov- …in this genre and brilliantly written.”
- Where You AreΒ by J.H. Trumble <— recommended by Paula, and it’s a student-teacher, too!!! “Maryse, I just read a really good student/teacher romance that was m/m. It is called Where You Are by J.H. Trumble.“
- Rain and WhiskeyΒ byΒ BA Tortuga <— Leslie recommends these:
Leslie: “The Rain and Whiskey series is fantastic. As is the Hammer series, the Roughstock SweetheartsΒ series,Β and the Mannies, Inc. series. Just those 4 series have all the genre you can handle. The stories are full of love, and sex (of course!), and show relationships for what they are: Work. Work that, for the right person, is well worth the effort.”
- Sean Michael <— Leslie also recommends this author!

I’m SO HAPPY to hear that you may read Rough Canvas, by Joey W. Hill. I can’t wait to find out what you think, it’s just a Beautiful, Beautiful Love Story. <3
You guys have me CONVINCED!!!!!! I was thinking of going on to a m/f contemporary tonight but that one is SO calling me right now…
Any book, series or short story by Josh Lanyon. Not always a true HEA but always a good story. M/M romance with a mystery or two on the side.
Thanks for the list. I read Collide and I’m reading Try right now. I don’t know if I can ever go back to m/f romance. Hahaha.
LOL!! I’m hearing that a lot these days. After Bear, Otter and the Kid… I was wondering how I would get that kind of intense romantic angst to that level again… Yep. I get you!
“Bound by Lies” by Lynn Kelling
M/M loved the characters
So glad you out up this list!!! I’ve read around 50 or so m/m books but lots of these I haven’t heart of, so thank you!!
You should read Thomas’s Choice by Tina Folsom. I loved it.
OMG! I love Thomas and Eddieπ₯π₯π₯π₯
I loved Beyond Eden sooooo much! The intensity in that book was definitely felt by me! A couple others that I’ve really enjoyed were Zero at the Bone by Jane Seville- it’s a GFY plus an awesome hit man turns protector story. I also loved Genetic Attraction by Tara Lain- it’s an MMF, story ultimately, but the M/M portion of it is very strong, and one of the guys is straight only for the female in the story, so it’s an interesting reversal of the GFY.
I agree with Alicia above^^^. Bound by Lies by Lynn Kelling …so good! I am also reading Aftermath by Cara Dee. Just started, but loving it so far!
“Hot Head” by Damon Suede is SOOOOooo hot and a gorgeous love story! Read it now!
Ohhh YES!!! I’m adding these onto the list right now. They sound perfect!!
I am so glad you put up this list. I was actually going to ask you if you had one. I don’t know why I love the m/m genre so much but I do. Im glad to see I’m not alone. Kindle Alexander has a few good ones and your really need to check out Six Ways From Sunday by Mercy Celeste. It hits you where it hurts, but in a good way π Very emotional read.
We are up to 42 HIGHLY recommended m/m reads!! YAY US!!! So many yummy ones to choose from.
Love all the recommendations and have read half of them. May I recommend the Adrien English Mysteries by Josh Lanyon and if you’re in the mood for a paranormal m/m read try the With or Without series by J.L. Langley. Enjoy
I don’t really read m/m romance, but in high school a friend convinced me to read the Wraeththu trilogy by Storm Constantine. TOR has a nice omnibus edition, and I think book one (The Enchantments of Flesh and Spirit) is available as an ebook. Anyway, those books are like crack. Very readable — great storytelling. They come with my highest recommendation.
I just finished reading Try! Holy Batman was it HOT! I loved it and can’t for the next book in the series. Thanks for the referral. I would recommend the Alluring Indulgence series! The 3rd book is Travis and it is totally HOT.
OMG It’s M. Pierce!!! π Okay *phew* I’ve been missing Matt so, you know… I’m very happy to see you again!
Now I shall look up your suggestions!!
P.S. Those of you that love the super-steamy reads but with a surprising twisty love story, y’all gotta read his. Or… hers? Er? You’ll see if you read “Night Owl”. hehe. That’s my review and everyone is lovin’ it! —> https://www.maryse.net/books/book-review-night-owl-by-m-pierce.html
Thanks Melissa and Kerry! I’ll be adding them here, shortly!
Haven’t read an m/m romance yet. Thinking I might start with Beyond Eden because I’m a sucker for m/f/m love stories. Any recommendations would love to have. Table for Three was sooo steamy and really worshipped their woman. I dunno that genre just makes me happy.
By degrees series Taylor Donovan,
Pretty much all of C. Cardeno series. There’s even a paranormal one that I really enjoyed.
Newer author Rhys Ford sinners series.
ANYTHING by Mary calmes.
M.J. O`shea one small thing. One true thing… Sweet stories.
This one is short but there’s just something about it.. Tymber Dalton More than make believe.
Another newer author.. Kindle alexander
There’s some comedy in this book.. J.A. Rock .. Wacky wednesday I think there’s another one like this too.
How is the Cut and Run series by Abigal Roux not on this list?!? They are my fav m/m books! I haven’t read the most recent, Touch and Geaux yet because I’m waiting for book 9 π
Oops never mind I see it now
Think you so much for additional suggestions! I one clicked so many….I agree with judging a book by its cover… I didn’t read otter because I’m not so sure about the drawings I like alpha males even in m/m romances and the drawings definitely don’t scream alpha male to me but I’m giving “otter” a try I’ll let you know what I think!
Jennifer… “Otter” is an alpha. π
Power Exchange and Safeword by AJ Rose were really really good.I didn’t see it on anyone’s rec lists.
Oh YES, Hot Head was awesome! I’m in the middle of Try right now and LOVING it. Yowzers it’s so freaking hot! π
Just released this week is the first spin off from the cut and run series called Shock and Awe. Which is a Sidewinders book ( you need to read the main cut and run series first not to be read before Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run) and its really good. π
I’m new to the m/m sub-genre and like you I was gradually introduced (and convinced that it’ll work for me) through J R Ward’s BDB series. Lover At Last was a breakthrough to me and I’d like to take it a bit further so thanks for the awesome recs! I also love your effort to analyze why women go crazy over m/m books. I guess what you say is right: we’re suckers for a good love story, no matter who or what or how.
Wishes from Greece!
OMG so many ! π what should I start with ?
Maryse
Be sure to add
Power Exchange and Safeword to your list. They are both by A J Rose. You will love them. The covers alone are enough to sell the books, but they are great reads. I LOVED them!
And to you, I can only say….Finally!!!!!!!!!!
jack xxx
hahaah Jackie!!!! I’m so glad you made it over and… I’ll be adding those for sure! And… did you SEEEEEE all of the awesome choices I have. I’m like a kid in a candy store and i have NO clue what to select next. I’m thinking it’s going to be the one from Joey Hill, but then Rebecka just told me about “Aaron” so I’m all in happy knots right now!
BTW, Maryse. Matter of time series by M. Calmed. Sam is so up your Alpha Alley.
Maryse,
Try by Ella Frank was my first M/M and I LOVED it. Finished it last night!!!! I will admit that I was apprehensive but thought I would βTryβ because I love all of Ella Franks other books. So glad I did and I am glad you are recommending similar reads.
OMG there are so many good books on your list that I’ve read and loved and some that I’ve never heard of which is awesome cause the “man Love” collection on my Kindle could use a few more books lol. I feel bad for you cause there are so many good books on here your TBR collections is gonna be out of control. But I’m going to add a few more suggested reads cause I’m evil π
Aaron by JP Barnaby is heartbreaking and wonderful. I cannot decribe how good this made my heart hurt. I follow her (stalk her writing progress) on FB so I know the follow up is in the works.
3 by Jacob Flores had the affair thing going but with a twist. It was surprisingly deep and thoughtful and I loved every page.
Psycop Series by Jordan Castillo Price is really good. Think m/m EIT with a bit less terror. (I didn’t have to sleep with a night light)
Chaser – By Rick R Reed because it was an unexpected.
Holy goodness there are so many!! And Bear Otter and the Kid 3 is coming soon! TJ “finished it” at GRL. Did you see the video? He also proposed to his cute writer BF Eric Arvin. So adorable. You have to watch their videos on youtube.
They are toooo cute Rebecka!! I follow TJ on Facebook, so I’m anxiously awaiting his next book! Thank you guys SO much for all of the awesome looking suggestions. I’ll be adding them in today, and will be selecting one out of this bunch to read within the next few days. I’m actually reading a student/teacher romance right now (Better which is after “Good” that I loved so much) *eeeep* I’m so excited for all of my wonderful choices!!!!
Fantastic! Thanks so much for the list Maryse! Just finished Try by Ella Frank followed swiftly by Collide. Both were amazing! Great to have so many recommendations for when I need that little m/m kick!
just finished Try by Ella Frank last night…..I loved it! Tate and Logan sexy, adorable, endearing and definitely worth reading about….again!!!!!!
I agree with Amy and Jackie! I recently read power Exchange and am reading Safeword now. Absolutely *love* Gavin and Ben! And I’m dying to dive into some of the recommendations on this list!
I agree with all the recommendations. If you’re looking for a good one from Kindle Alexander, read “The Current between Us” it’s great. Another great one is from author is Mercy Celeste, her “Behind Iron Lace” is very good. God! I loved “A Matter of Time” series, Jory is so adorable and Sam is such an Alpha. If anyone is looking for cowboy/ranch stories try “Texas” series by R.J. Scott or the series by A.J. Llewellyn, “Orgasmic Texas Dawn”
Thanks for all the great reads and thank you Maryse for giving voice to the genre
I just love your blog so much! I came upon it and love the M/M section. You recommend the hottest MM books. Excellent!
Hi Paul! I’m so glad you’re here. We have so much awesome reading to look forward to. I’m so excited, I don’t even know which one to pick first!! π
We’re up to 56 books on this list, and that doesn’t even include all of the rest of the books in some of these series that were suggested… π
I am 90% through Aftermath and so do not want it to end. Beyond the romance, it is just a great story. Highly recommend.
Have you checked out The Replacement Guitarist and Home for the Holidays by Lori Toland?? She just re-relased both of them and added a bunch of new stuff to them!! Shes actually running a sale on them on amazon right now in honor of the release!
Have you read The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller set in Ancient Greece? It tells the story of the love between Achilles and Patroclus. Won the Orange Prize or Fiction last year. My favourite read of the last 12 months. Really is entrancing and very sad.
I just finished reading Collide and I’m in love! What a great recommendation! Thank you! Being a newbie in this genre is great! So excited. I’m going down your list! π
I am so addicted to m/m too! Memorizing You by Dan Skinner was really good. Also, I haven’t seen anyone recommend the Deviations series by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne. Soooo good. I’m actually re-reading them right now after just reading them last month! They are older books (series started in 2005 I think?) but it is really worth it to search them out on Amazon. Totally loving those characters right now and even dream about them!
So I just read Bear Otter and the kid…what took me so long to read it????I’ve seen it before but it looked too mushy for me lol. How wrong I was. This is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Bear is hilarious. So is creed and the kid……and I just love Otter…5 stars for me I’m on book 2 now..
Sara if you like the Deviations series try the Hammer series by Sean Michael or the Russian Bear series by C.B. Conway
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this great series by Z.A. Maxfield, but the St Nacho’s series is very angsty with heartache and HEA
If you’re looking for military story lines, I recommend Recon Diaries by Kendall McKenna.
Thanks for the suggestions, Kerry. I will check those out.
I would also recommend All the Kings Men Series. The 2nd. Book Heart of the Warrior is an amazing m/m read. It was full of emotion and drama. The sex scenes were so frkn Hot. The story of them was beautiful.
Ethan is the new Alluring Indulgence novel and will be m/m….we got a sneak peek of what it will entail in the holiday edition and I cannot wait!!! Love te series so far. Highly recommend for readers who enjoy erotic novels with alfa males π
I have a question for all of u. I was reading review for another m/m book the other day, I don’t remember which one though. It was about a straight college guy who gets a speeding ticket from a cop. The cop has been watching him for a while now and is very much interested in him. When this younger guy decides to explore his sexuality and leaves his girlfriend he asks this cop to show him the ropes.
So the cop takes him under his wing and soon falls in love with the guy. Now for the life of me I can’t find this book. Any ideas guys? Help!
Just finished Bear, Otter and The Kid. Why did I hold off reading it before?!? It was amazing! I honestly never thought of reading m/m books before but Maryse, you are right– you lose yourself in the story and the characters and that’s all that matters. This is a wonderful book π I am downloading the next one now!
I just finished reading The Backup Boyfriend..gay getting over heartbreaking relationship, straight guy enters picture.. Well you’ll have to read to see what happens. It was so good. It’s was hilarious..(like I laughed until I cried a lot during this book) tThe sex was super frkn hot. I can’t wait for the next book to come out it will be Tyler’s story. I love Noah to so I hope she does his Story too.
I am reading the Acclamation series by Vee Hoffman and they are excellent. They are amazing! It’s a teacher/student story. (Teacher is 28, student is 18 but it isn’t creepy) It is beautifully written. The first book in the series is a little slow, but the 2nd, 3rd and 4th books are excellent! I have read a lot of m/m books and these are some of my favorite. Highly recommend!
Ethan book #5 in Alluring Indulgence just came out. It’s an M/M read… I’m telling you if you’ve not read this series you should. The Walker brothers are frkn HOT!!! You will be wondering what took you so long to read it. Guarantee you will love Them.
WOW! I just read Dancing with the Daffodils by Tarion Keelan. It is beautifully written… and hot… and sad… and funny… Evidently, it won the steam e-reads “some like it hot” competition, and it is amazing.
Hi! I have read several of the books on your list and thouroughly enjoyed them. I wanted to make a recomendation. It’s a free online read called starfish, and follows two boys from highschool way into adulthood. I’ve read it twice. The author is grasshopper. Honestly do not know why this isn’t in print! Hope you take a chance on it, and if you love it spread the word.
Marsye, thanks so much for the list! I’ve been working my way through these books. So many great ones! My latest book hangover is from Finding Eden by Kele Moon. I read it out of order because they were both available & I decided to start at the beginning. I’m glad I read it that way. I had such a strong connection to Danny Boy & Paul Guy. It made the really intense moments in Beyond Eden that much sweeter. You should go back for a visit and read Finding Eden. π
If you like ty and zane You should try captive prince
the first vol is a bit slow but second vol will wow u its really ur thing if u like slowly building up romances
cant wait for vol 3!!!
Tymber Dalton Love Slave for Two series. It’s another sharing a girl but the love between the men is strong.
And the trip they take in the RV is hilarious!!!
Kim Dare writes some great mm love stories. My favourites are Duck and Magpie, I highly recommend reading them.
Brad’s Bachelor Party is my fave M/M read so far!! Short, but so so so good!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DHP7TSG
I didn’t see him listed here so I am going to add the Adrien English Series by Josh Lanyon is brilliant. The main character is acerbic and genuinely confused about how the owner of a book store that sells nothing but gay mystery novels could end up in the middle of a murder mystery himself. I laughed and rooted for his relationship with the deeply closeted cop who hounds him. The entire series is well worth a read and, best of all, has a happy ending!
Aleksandr Voinov’s Special Forces series are ridiculously angsty M/M novels. Don’t start unless you have some serious time because once you start you will not be able to stop. A GFY storyline with rape, military, and redemption. Books are free PDF files on his website.
Thank you Mischa…. Have been sucked in by Special Forces…nothing else accomplished today…so good!
I read Any Closer by Mary Calmes a few months ago it’s short yet fun to read, every time I have some time and need something for a laugh i either read this or One of those days by Zathyn Priest or Gambling on maybe by Fae Sutherland but I just Love Faith & Fidelity it’s very sweet.
Also if any of you is a fan of Sherlock Holmes/John Watson you should totally read kissing Sherlock Holmes by T.D. McKinney
Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander is LOL funny! Easy and enjoyable read. I have a new appreciation for bunny slippers
I’m late to the party, but this is amazing. You don’t know how thrilled I am to have found a great m/m romance rec list! I’m going to have to cordon off some time for myself to get through these, they sound perfect.
Hi Moriah!! Better late than never… I was blown away when I found ’em, too! π
Just finished Full Disclosure by Kindle Alexander. It is a great follow-up to Double Full. Kindle Alexander was my first M/M author and I have devoured all of his/her? books now. Good writing, editing, and storylines. OBTW, the cover model for Full Disclosure is so yummy!
Try reading “baby boy” love this story.
Your blog is my go to site when looking for a new read. You never let me down. Thanks for all the work you put in, its greatly appreciated. I’ve been reading M/M since I stumbled on this page. Try & Bear, Otter, Kid were favorites of mine you turned me on to. I thought I’d add a few of my own that have made my top favs list.
Dangerously Happy ranks up there with Try for me. A very sensual GFY story about exploring boundaries & finding healing. The first encounter alone at the beginning of the book took my breath away, very sexy! I recommend the sequel as well (different characters. Note: There’s BDSM in both books)
When all the world sleeps is another story with dark undertones, again BDSM involved but for a reason youll need to find out on your own.
The truth about Riley is a sweet love story between 2 men who connect & carry on a relationship over the phone beginning when Riley (a lonely withdrawn man) calls a phone sex hotline only to find out it’s a wrong number.
Blue Moon 1 & 2: lots of action (Navy SEALS, Gay friendly nightclub owner, DEA agent) and some steamy sex. I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Let me know if you like any of these. Keep up the good work!
I almost forgot Stay with me – omg, this writer is amazing! The main character (a surfer type, private investigator) is so witty and kept me laughing throughout. The sex was well done and I was disappointed to see the author has only this one book available.
The 3rd book from power exchange series is out. Just started it, pretty intense. Okay, I’m done hijacking your page π
Yakuza Pride and Yakuza Courage by H.J. Brues are good books with a different alpha male description as these are Japanese gangsters interacting with American males. Good stories from a different cultural perspective.
If you want a dark m/m story and one that stays with you try Violence Begets. When I finished that book I just sat there, I couldn’t handle stating a new book. I thought the author did an amazing job
Just finished Beneath the Stain by Amy Lane. OMG this one… This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Mackey and Trav are maybe my favorite couple of all time (sorry Keira and Kellen). The story gave me the same feel as the early relationship between V and Butch in BDB, really intimate. I loved, loved, loved this book.
The book that Maria Majeed is talking about sounds like Crossing Borders by Z. A Maxfield, this is one of my favourite books form one of of my fav authors.
Dark and disturbing but addictive: Fallocaust series by Quil Carter. Really innovative storyline that sucks you in and makes you want to forget. Books have cliffhangers and thus far no happy endings. Next book debuts on 15 November and I cannot wait
Avril Ashton’s latest series “watch me” are really good. Different descriptions of characters falling in love but each book is better than their synopsis. Two books out so far.
Love this genre! You should check out the Spy vs. Spook series by Tinnean.
I have read many of these. A couple I have never heard of so I need to check them out. Thank you for the suggestions. My favorite M/M series is The Texas Series by RJ Scott. I have read the first 4 a few times.
You should definitely try The Captive Prince series, by C. S. Pacat. There are two books in the series, with a third coming out soon. Also, there are two independently published authors who are terrific: Harper Fox and Jordan Hawk. Harper Fox’s m/m romances are set in the British Islands and have a beautiful sense of place. Hawk’s stories are also paranormal mysteries; her Widdershins trilogy is one of my all-time favorite reads. Thanks for the recommendations!
Loving this list, but there’s this book I’m sure I saw here about a wife who dies and comes back reincarnated as a straight man. Then the husband and him meet. Don’t know the name or the author but I think it has tall in the title. Help.
I’m on it, Helen!! π
Hey Maryse! I loved this list and made it through the whole thing. I was wondering if you’ll be doing an updated version or if you can give me some recommendations.
The Straight Guys series by Alessandra Hazard are quick, easy reads with a GFY theme…this is my favorite in M/M romance.
I’m just going to jump in here quickly just to say that I totally was with you on not feeling the first book in Cut and Run series. I mean not at all. I thought Tracie was crazy. π But she convinced me to read the second book. If I didn’t like it I could be done. Well it had me hooked! Loved it! The lack of connection that I was completely feeling between the two of them was there. It honestly was like it was written by someone else. It was perfect from all aspects – suspense, the feels, romance, tension, and love. I read the rest of the series straight through and am now anxious for the final book in March. *OK. Sorry. Long ramble. Just had to get that out there.* π
I just read a really good m/m paranormal book that just came out. I think you would like it.
Axel’s Pup by Kim Dare
It really gets into the psychology of BDSM/and pack hierarchy. Very well done.
I love this genre! “Curious” by RG Alexander just knocked my socks off – GFY between two alphas with dirty mouths make for some STEAMY scenes. Wowsa. Also liked “Hot Head” by Damon Suede, and the “Try” series by Ella Frank. Thanks for the recs, Maryse!
Hi everyone.
And for the ones who love “gay for you” stories you should read Straight Man Gay and Straight Man Gay Two by Danny Culpepper. It’s soooo good. Full of adorable and unforgettable characters.
Latakia and The Fence and Then the Trees are both awesome. No steamy sex scenes but slow build with great story lines.
Just discovered a new author..to me…with great stories. They are relatively short..about 150 pages but great stories. Some GFY genre by T. Baggins or S.A. Reid..same books are attributed to both names. Protection is set in 1930s British prison. Well fleshed out characters, steamy scenes and true love story…also Something Different. Highly recommend.
Don’t mind the name, am nigerian and female and yes aficans read books too. Just found this list and was so pleased, started reading m/m almost a year ago out of curiousity and haven’t been able to read a m/f ever since. Have read over 80 m/m books since, have read most books on this list but would have to read some that were recomended. Just very resently read my 1st vampire m/m and boy was it super hot, its called “cronin’s key”. Should definitely be added to this list. Have read a lot of less than awesome m/ms along the way but am really addicted to this genre.
Kora Knight’s Upending Tad series is HOT! Novellas, about 5, with a GFY theme…addicting and did I say HOT?!
Great recommendations here is mine: https://www.amazon.de/Gay-Romance-Sammelband-Besten-Freund-ebook/dp/B00WFV3TXW/ref=sr_1_53?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1434091526&sr=1-53&keywords=gay+romance
Jennifer, thanks for the T. Baggins Protection recommendation. I’m looking for some new material that doesn’t cost $6 for 100 pages. Recommendations?
Mischa Erin O’Quinn has two great historical series…the first is a 2 book series set in Roman times and the second the Gaslight mystery series set in the 1800s. Not a fan of her Nevada series. Anything by S.E. Jakes but especially the Hell or Highwater series. Shades of Gray was a good one by Brooke McKinley and I think I got it for $.99… I like a good price M/M in general seems to be more expensive but sometimes worth it. Kinndle Alwxander has some good ones, Always was a great full, lifetime love story.
More recommendations: HIM by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowmen is amazing. Hockey players. And Crossroads by Riley Hart…GFY x2…awesome sexy stories.
Highly recommend the Infected series by Andrea Speed. It is a m/m series I discovered this year that has a different take on Shifters. In this series being a shifter is the result of a disease. Each book in the series has 1-2 mysteries to solve. The secondary characters add great dimension to the series. First book in the series is Infected: Prey.
As someone who enjoys both m/m and m/f romance (though in case of m/m, I’ve only read lots of fanfiction for a couple of years now, so I was looking for some actual books since now I do prefer them over hetero romance), I’ve always found weird women that project themselves onto the heroine. Like honestly, the best part of reading romance is to feel both characters, the relationship itself. Whether it’s the man or the women, whether the two of them are women or men. Feel in love with the actual characters and their dynamic and not just with the idea of finding a man like that. And I feel like women that only read for the first reason, miss the point which is a shame since it’s what most women who read explicitly hetero romance, do… “why would you read about a men who wouldn’t love you back” is a line I read already by another women and is sooo w t h??!
I’ve been reading the best of dreamspinner press. 5 books for $10. All bundles have been super awesome so far. Plus lots of different types and storylines since multitude of authors. Highly recommend!
Hi Thank you so much for the list!

MY FAVORITE SERIES: More Heat than the Sun by John Wiltshire. The whole series has an average rate of 4.4 (Goodreads). Here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/series/129385-more-heat-than-the-sun.
It is a story about Ben and Nik, and they’ve been sleeping together for the last 4 years.
Thank you Cristy! This sounds amazing!! π
I highly recommend Captive prince trilogy by C.S.Pacat. This is historical romance with very intriguing plot and so captivating caracters! It is slow burn but very very worth it! Chek it out!!!
Captive prince trilogy!
Sacrati by Kate Sherwood
In the company of shadows by Ais and Santino.
“Nothing Special” Series by A.E Via is an awesome read for those who love cops stories. I enjoyed it a lot and you’ll love the characters. It’s a feel good reads so you should check it out π
Have read Nicholas Bella New Haven series.. OMG . Once you start you don’t want it to finish. It will grab you. Highly recommended.
Where is Heidi Belleau? The absolute best m/m author, in my opinion, and I’ve read extensively in this genre.
It is an unacceptable shame that these lists continue to leave out authors like Sean Michael and B.A. Tortuga. The Rain and Whiskey series is fantastic. As is the Hammer series, the Roughstock series, and the Mannies, Inc. series. Just those 4 series have all the genre you can handle. The stories are full of love, and sex (of course!), and show relationships for what they are: Work. Work that, for the right person, is well worth the effort.
Thank you for recommending them, Leslie! π I will add them right now. They were certainly not left off the list on purpose.
I’ve read most of these and a lot of my favorites are listed. Some of my favorites that are not on the list is Beyond Complicated and the Southern scrimmage series by Mercy Celeste. They are so freaking good! I could not put Bootleg Diva down!!
I definitely recommend the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat. It’s a genre all on it’s own, deals with two princes, power play, complex characters, slavery, hidden identities and a great freaking plot.
I highly recommend Danny Culpepper’s Straight Man Gay series. There are 3 books so far, and I love all of them.
Hi Maryse. I know I’m like more than three years late but I can’t help but feel happy that Frank’s Try is included! I was scrolling just know and actually looking for it, hehe. It was my first m/m and I love it. I love the characters and their lines, especially the lines. I laughed and cried a lot. It was amazing. Now, I’m going to download a few from your list. Haha! Thank you and have a great day x
desperately looking for new awwsome mm reads so this is helpful. I havent seen Tiffany Reisz The Angel anywhere and as it is my very first mm read and it has Reiszs masterpiece writing I wholeheartedly recommend it though the series should be read in order. The Understatement of the Year also exquisite. Captive Prince trilogy, Him&Us and Ella Franks Try. A matter of time series…so many awesome books out There
Hi….I recently started reading full on m/m romance books and have come across some fantastic reads. She changed from the 3rd person to 1st person and for a long time (2 weeks….well it’s a long time for me) I decided to continue on with the series…And I’m so damn glad I did….LOVE THEM!!!
So other authors and their series are Riley Hart. Her Crossroads, Black Creek and Broken pieces series are great. Loved Ella Franks Temptation series and no word of a lie as I’m typing this now I just found out she has a 4th book in the series to be released May 9th..I must say the new book covers are soooo much better then the previous too..Her Sunset Cove series I am listening to through youtube. Well worth a listen or read.
So just some other authors now…
A E Via
RG Alexander
Sara York
Aimee Nicole Walker
Ann Lister
Cara Dee
Jenna Byrne
Tere Michaels
Anna Zabo
So a lot of these authors write in the 1st person which I may have mentioned…But after I got over my hissy fit and aversion to that style of writing I must admit I love the stories… I have never cried so damn much reading romance books (and I’ve read a bloody lot in my nearly 50 years) as I have since reading m/m romance books. I also just started reading with Kindle and a lot of these books you can get using a Kindle Unlimited account… Well worth it. So thanks for listening to me waffle on and please add other authors as I seem to be running out of material to read.
YAY!!! Thank you SO much Robyn!!!! I’ll be adding these in! π
Him and Us by Sarina Bowen are also great reads!
