It is Saturday (Reader Favorites Day!!!) and it’s fabulous Fabi’s turn!!! Fabi’s been with us for… 106 pages worth of her comments alone!!! π *squeeee!!* I decided that counts as “she’s been with us forever” (YAY FABI!!!! :D) and I wasn’t gonna scroll back that many pages to find her first dated comment. LOL! And to give you an idea on how perfect she is for us… this is a little bit of “Fabi”:
“bahahabahaha *canβt breathe* bahahabahaha Bev!!! *holding stomach* *gasp* bahahaha Give me a minute..Iβll brb *snicker, snort*“
*snort* I’m giggling just reading that, and now I so need to backtrack in those comments to see what had her laughing so hard!! OMG I LOVE HER!!!! :D!!!!
Wanna know more about Fabi and and what has her, when it comes to books? She once told us:
Book triggers, hmmm, I canβt really pin it down. I know Iβm partial to younger characters, especially if theyβre fighting against a dystopian world and thereβs a little romance thrown in. So when I read a blurb with those elements, its an automatic 1 click. But there are many others too.
Music, thatβs another trigger for me. Give a character that plays guitar/sings and Iβm likely to read the book. Same goes for soccer/football/basketball athlete characters. And dont even get me started on sci-fi. Ah, so many triggers. Probably why my reading is all over the place and I end up missing as many great books as I find.
Plus! She’s big on everything we love but also EXTREMELY well versed in all genres! From historical romances, classics and urban fantasies, to sci-fi, M/M romance, and dystopian. All sorts of great stuff! I think ANYONE that loves a a great story (love and all!) will relate to Fabi’s favorites! π
And!! She gave us little tidbits of why each one is her favorite!!!

Do you have a βTop Favorite Booksβ list?Β Donβt forget to send me yours!! I post one every Saturday (send it here:Β https://www.maryse.net/contact-me). You can make it just a list (top 10 or more) but if you want to include a tiny (or longer) tidbit next to each one about why you loved it, that would be awesome, too!Β
Love this list Fabi!! Need to read Rosalynde. I haven’t read Historical in so long! And to think that was all I used to read like 2 years ago lol.
Yay for Fabi’s list! So many here that are new to me and I’m excited! Thanks!
I can say Fabi introduced me to Varian Krylov with the book After and that was a totally different read for me, one I won’t forget!
Fabi!! Great list. Lots of dystopian to try.
I’m reading Try right now. π
I’ve read 2,4,5,8,12,14,17,21,&22(the first and second).
I already want to read The Warded Man and Red Rising based on your recs. The rest I’m going to have to look more into.
I wanna read “Uglies” SO BAD!!!
It’s FABI!!!!!!! Yes, we DO love Fabi. Snickering, snorting, drink-spewing Fabi. π *hugs*
Before anything else, I have to comment on Unwind…holy sh!t, that book messed with me, and not in the usual way that I love. I mean, I really, really liked it, but as if the subject itself isn’t shocking enough he then had to throw in a scene that was so f%&#ing horrifying (yes, it warrants that language) that I still have a physical reaction to it…a literal physical reaction. And the most brilliant part is that the scene is not graphic or gory. Fabi, I KNOW you know what part I’m talking about.
Let’s see…I’ve read 4 (of course!), 5, 12, 13, 21 and 22. What’s great is to see so many “classics” on Fabi’s list. I love these readers’ favorites lists…our lovely ladies’ favorite reads condensed for us in one spot!!
Maryse, did you see Jean’s comment on After? One of these days you’re going to have to take our word for it and read it. It would appeal to Dark Maryse. π
Now this is nice and eclectic! I’ve read 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19, 21
Warded Man was seriously good, and I read it because Fabi recommended it. I’m on Desert Spear, and as I read, I’m totally cheating and reading the character I like, but it’s a slower read. (Once on page 188, it’ll soar! I know, I read that part! π )
City of Bones… *swoons*
I just got this past week at the library Red Rising. I also bought Maze Runner and *hides before whispering* Surviving Raine, but haven’t read them yet. Also a bunch I’ve not really noticed. *grins* Which is fun.
Fabi’s list is Fabulous!!! But the best part is that I will be reading a book and think, “ooh, I bet Fabi would like this” because her personality shines through in all her posts.
I’ve read 1,2, 4, 8 (of course! my fellow soccer fanatic), 12, 17, 21 and 24. So that’s only a third of this list…. time to copy and paste and get to reading some of these. Been eyeing Hominids for SO LONG.
I agree, when I hear Varian Krylov, I think of Fabi, because she turned me on to her stuff… and that was some good stuff!!!
What a great list… going to have to do some squirreling Im sure!
Nice list Fabi! π I love that you have Twilight and the Hunger Games on it π
Great list Fabi…… girl after my own heart. Great selection of YA and Dystopian. God had forgotten Neal Schustermans Unwind. Just awesome. One clicking the few I haven’t read yet cos I know I’ll love them based on the others. Good work.
LOVE this list Fabi! You know I enjoy a good dystopian or scifi change of pace. 1 I’m still working my way to but I did read a couple other Krylov works. 3, 13, 14 I bought from your recs and need to read them soon! Red Rising (would be on my top list – amazinnnggggg), 2, 4, 5, 8, 12, 18, 21, 23 are all favorites for me as well. Am I the only one that liked the Infernal Devices more though – that one is in my top list. 10 I’ve been eyeing since you mentioned it and now Tessa liked it too, oh boy that series could blow my budget!
Definitely going to check out some of the dystopian on this list….been really in the mood for that. Fabi, which one should I try first?
I also grabbed KultI because I Remeber you and MichelleS loving it so much!

Okay now there are THREE from this list that I will read ASAP, due to youse guys’s reactions. π (GAH! The grammar) *snort*
After
Uglies
Unwind.
OMG PLEASE I’M SO EXCITED FOR THESE!!!
Is it Sunday already? I’m so embarrassed. I totally missed this yesterday. Thank you Maryse for posting my favorites. Ladies I can’t believe you’ve read so many of my favorites. Or is it that I’ve read most of your recommendations? *snort*
Jean, I think Kulti is right up your alley and you’ll enjoy it.
Amy, yes, I know which part you’re talking about. It haunts me still.
Maryse, Uglies stayed with me. Really stayed with me. Hope you try it. It’s a world of artificially created beautiful people. The story of a girl who may want to remain “ugly” to keep her independence. But how do you buck world order and survive? I read it years and years ago and remember it like it was yesterday.
Bev you’re reading Try?! Awww, what an incredible love story. Gah! I want to reread it. It give me butterflies just thinking about it.
Tessa, that second one may be slower but the third one will blow you away.
Anne, I’ve read the Rosslynde Chronicles many, many times. I had to buy a new set of paperbacks because I wore out the first set.
I’m sorry I missed all this yesterday ladies. *blush* I forgot what day I was living in.
Fabi Yeh!!!! Your list is so different from what I gravitate towards and that’s what I love about these reader favorites lists. I share your love of sports and rock star stories, but really need to branch out and try some of the dystopian/sci-fi one’s you loved. I’ve read, 2, 4, 8, 9, 21, and 22.
Had to laugh when I saw Ender’s Game, I think of it everyday. My son who read the books, went to see the movie with his Dad. They came home with the movie theatre display. Not your normal, small stand-up display, no this one is huge and lights up and the inside rotates! They had to take it apart at the theatre and then put it back together in his room!!!
Oops, missed a question…
Jean, if you’re going to try dystopian for the first time, knowing you prefer romance and a bit or more of angst, I’d say try Uglies along with Maryse. π
Hahaha Cheryl, I would have to tug of war your boy over that display. That was one movie that didn’t dissapoint.
As old as I am, I remain a kid at heart, I actually see 2-3 on my favorites list that are meant for the under 13 crowd. I don’t know whether to blush or pat myself on the back. wth…I’ll just *snort*
Fabi great list. If you loved TRY you should read The Locker Room by Amy Lane. Basketball, MM and it will rip your heart out. Also Beneath The Stain by Amy Lane. Rock star, MM and again a heart smasher.
Hi Teri, I’ve read Beneath the Stain. I’ll check out The Locker Room. Thanks!
Thanks Fabi! Uglies it is!!! I’m excited!
Just got Roselynde and Alinor! I am excited about these!
Oh my gosh, Anne! That is so wild for me. I don’t know anyone else who’s read them.
I didn’t know about this author until your list so thank you Fabi!! I know they were written in 1978 (before I was even born lol) but I love a great HR and these seem to fit the bill! I can’t wait to read them and share my thoughts with you! *big hugs*
Also, if you like PNR, her’s was the first I read that told myths as a story.
*cough, cough* I think I read them for the first time shortly after they were published. I remember waiting for the next book in the series to be published. I use the term series loosely. All except maybe the first two read as stand alone novels. Man, I used to gobble these up as a teenager.
Tessa, which one are you referring to?
Sorry, the Roberta Gellis book, Dazzling Brightness. Roselynde was good and she has the same writing style in her other books, no matter the subject.
I’m sure I read it at some point. I love that author. I like her feisty heroines.
Great list Fabi! I love the variety…MM, Sci Fi, historical, so many genres so little time…and love soccer books…Kulti.swoon, and really liked Scoring Wilder.
Thanks Jennifer. I know my reading is all over the place. I often warn in my posts that “I’m coming in out of left field” or “random post”. π So far, I’ve only dodged a few rotten tomatoes.
-kidding-
All you ladies here are wonderful.
Fabi! I’m reading Kulti! Love it! I’m only 10% in but I love Sal, her friend Jenny, and oh my gosh her Dad!!! This is great so far! Kulti is just a broody jerk right now, not saying much but yeah I’m excited to see his first interaction with Sal. Her “poop” thoughts are cracking me up!
That’s awesome. Isn’t she cute? Wait till you see her temper.
Thanks for pushing this one up on my list! I am really enjoying it!
My daughter met Neal Shusterman, she’s 13… he came and did a thing at her school for their book club.
She’s a book nut like me, she loved the book, told me I should read it. Now that I see it on your fave list too, I think I will steal her copy LOL!
Grey, I always read everything my kids read when they were teens. I found so many great books that way. i.e. Twighlight :-/
Grey…Unwind is a good one. Disturbing but good. Actually, it’s *really* good. Maybe because it’s disturbing. Oh, who cares why it’s good…just read it!!
Fabi, did you read the sequel? I never did but I was curious if it was as good as Unwind. Shark tattoo on the forearm…please tell me that makes your tummy turn like it does mine. π Gah! I’m not too proud to admit that whole part still makes me feel lightheaded…
Yeah Amy I read all of them. I can’t honestly remember where the first one ends but I can tell you they get wilder and wilder. Talk about the gut wrenching scenarios. This series has many of them.
The first left off when all of those “recipients” were brought together under, um, *surprising* circumstances and one of the MC’s had been injured but turned down a transplant because…yeah, that would be wrong considering where it would come from. *shudder*
How crazy…I’m having all these flashes of the different stories and circumstances of the kids who were supposed to or had been “unwound” and oh man, it’s making my heart hurt all over again! I might just have to finish up that series after all.
Oh, it gets gets even crazier after that. (A lot)
Oh crap. π
Alright, now I know how y’all feel about my angsty recommendations ’cause right now, I’m scared. *bites lip*
That first one was the most shocking because its when the society is revealed. But the subsequent ones “go there”. You know…where you just can’t imagine they would dare to go.
hahaha, YOU scared of a book? Can’t happen. π
Fabi, “German Chocolate Cake!” I am peeing my pants! Too funny! (Kulti)
That was the BEST book. Thanks to MichelleS for the rec. I think Maryse gave it 4-5 stars as well. Glad you’re enjoying it.
Yes, I AM scared!! That scene was traumatizing, and the thought of more of the same is just scary. Also, maybe it’s because it is tweens and teens who are unwound that makes it so difficult. But it was really good so I’m sure it would be worth it. π
Oh man, another flashback…the boy who received the partial brain transplant (I think he had two dads?) and had no idea why he was drawn to a certain house but just felt he needed to go there, and then when he started digging… *sob*
You know what, we need to convince some ladies here to read it ’cause I need some commiseration now that it’s all coming back to me! *hrmph!*
Well, if it makes you feel any better, there are no more scenes like “that” scene.
I read the series ages ago and this is another that I’d swear I read yesterday.

Amy, hon. *hugs* No. Not reading it. Nope! Sorry.
That one has me more scared than any dark book. Just… *hides*
Aw, come on Tessaaaaaaaa!!! *shakes Tessa’s arm* It may be kinda scary but it’s a good scary with light at the end of the tunnel. See up there? Fabi even loved it! *pouts* Please?
*ducks behind the Table of Defense*
Bad Things is .99 right now
Eeeek. Now that’s a dark read. Not as dark as The Tied Man or The Life of Anna, but still…dark.
I loved the Tristan and Danika series. Dark and dangerous.
