Reader Favorites – Johanne’s Top Favorite Stephen King Books List:

My sister is an AVID reader too!! In fact, SHE is the one that introduced me to the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (but she read them in FRENCH!! She’s from Quebec, Canada), and I knew… we were kindred reading spirits, as WELL as sisters! And since she’s spending her October vacation with me at my place, she’s feeling in the Halloween spirit and had a few of her own “reader favorites” she wanted to recommend. 😀

But she’s narrowed it down to a particular author! THE wonderful, creeptastic, Stephen King!! P.S. She’s 100% bilingual but some of them, she was describing to me in french, so I translated (and typed) as she spoke. 😀

Duma Key: A Novel by Stephen King <— My sister described it to me word for word this way. Tee hee! I literally typed as she told it to me. She says: “That’s the story taking place in the keys. The story of a man who has an accident and he’s very enraged about it… okay? So his psychologist says you should do something that you like. What he remembers liking is painting and drawing but now his drawings are verrrrrry…. different. And it’s here, in the Keys, he rents a house and on top of that not knowing that his neighbor is quite special as well and kind of connected. It’s really really good. it’s not too dark, but it’s very… hrmmmmmm… there are things happening that are very worrisome. And you’re like… OMG.”

Cell: A Novel by Stephen King <— My sister says… “This one is about the cell phone. A man starts the day quite well and suddenly sees the whole world going absolutely berzerk around him, not understanding what’s going wrong. How would you feel if the end of the world was about to happen and you’re not with your loved ones? He wants to go and find them. It’s really … apocalyptic but it’s GOOOOOOOOD. It’s unbelievable and incredible. C’est vraiment bon.” <— Tee hee! Half of this she said in french and I translated word for word. I should be a stenographer! Now she just showed me her goosebumps remembering this story.

Hearts In Atlantis by Stephen King <— She says: “This one is really touching… very nice stories. Many different stories but that are all interconnected and it’s nice to see very weird stuff from the eyes of a kid.”

Dreamcatcher: A Novel by Stephen King <— She says: “This one I read with a lot of fun… it is strange and you do not know where it leads to, but you want to know… There was a movie about this, but it doesn’t do the book justice. Especially because a big part of the book…  is happening within the emotions of the person, but you don’t get to experience the emotions in the movie.”

The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King <— My sister calls this the bed time story. She says: “That one is the story about an old king, young princes and an evil wizzard. A fairytale story for adults! It’s not a horror story at all, but this is where you see that Stephen King is just an incredible writer and he loves to tell stories no matter the genre. He’s good at it!”
