Kat has been an active member of our Facebook page for years!! In fact, I’ve met her AND her mom a few times at book signings (Book Bash), and we loved talking books! Her mom is kinda like my mom when it comes to our romance reads. They love the same books we do. And of course, I know you’ll recognize a lot of her favorites, and I just love her little notes next to each one letting us know why…
She says:
“These are all books i still think about regardless how long ago I read them. Also it should be said a lot of the newer books and popular series I havent gotten to yet. Hopefully this may help someone or give insight into my reading style.”
In No Order:
- Ten Tiny Breaths: A Novel (The Ten Tiny Breaths Series Book 1) by KA Tucker (o my goodness talk about living through a book, the twist, the tears I cried)
- Flat-Out Love (Flat-Out Love Series Book 1) by Jessica Park (I couldnt help but love all the characters)
- The Sea of Tranquility: A Novel by Katja Millay (perfect ending)
- Marrow by Tarryn Fisher (the eating house devoured my soul)
- Interim by S. Walden (controversial subject matter but S handled the topic with ease and beautifully)
- Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet Book 1) by CJ Roberts (stockholm syndrome begins with Caleb)
- Find You in the Dark by A. Meredith Walters (so many feelings)
- The Stand by Stephen King (made me fearful of anyone who coughs in my area)
- The Pact by Jodi Picoult (Emily and Chris’s love story still haunts me almost ten years later)
- The Elemental Mysteries by Elizabeth Hunter (favorite sexy and supenseful vampire series)
Honorable mentions
- Thoughtless by SC Stephens (Kellan Kyle)
- The Edge of Never by JA Redmerski (that tattoo and their journey)
- Experiment in Terror Series by Karina Halle (slow building love story, real characters you can relate to, and horror)
- Paint Me Beautiful: a Tale of Anorexia, a Love Story, and the Rebirth of Claire Simone (A Duet Book 1) by CM Stunich (a story about anorexia and true strength and the power of friendship)
- Star-Crossed Series by Rachel Higginson (young adult)
Do you have a “Top Favorite Books” list? Don’t forget to send me yours!! I post one every Saturday (send it here: https://www.maryse.net/contact-me). You can make it just a list (top 10 or more) but if you want to include a tiny (or longer) tidbit next to each one about why you loved it, that would be awesome, too!
Yeaaa, another Saturday Favorites list. I’ve hardly read any of Kat’s favs so I’m going to have a field day picking some out. Thanks for sharing Kat and thanks for posting Maryse.
My pleaure Fabi! Most of Kat’s are my favorites too, but “The Pact” is intriguing me BIG time!
I love “haunts me”… 😀
That one sounds familiar. I may have it on my tbr but I haven’t read it yet. I’ll add it to my reader favorites tbr. 🙂
I think I’m going to add The Elemental Series too. I’ve read Captive in the Dark and The Stand. Almost done with SoT. So that’ll make it 5 for me. 🙂 I get so excited about these.
Kat made me read The Pact. It was actually the very first book she told me I should read. She gave me my copy of it. And she is right. There is one screen in that book that just stays with you. I read it in 2007 and I still remember it like yesterday.
Good list, Kat!
Yes Maryse!! Haunting her 10 years later? Added to my list for sure.
Seven out of 15 – you know what that means? Yup. More greatness to add to my list.
Elemental Mysteries was one the best vampire “worlds” for me. Really smart. Never has gotten the attention I think it deserves. It’s just that good.
I’ve never read a single Jodi Picoult book. Am I going to get peanut-hammered?
Oh – and I’ve never read Flat Out Love. It’s one of those that I just KNOW I should have read, but didn’t. And now…. I don’t know if I missed that boat or of I’d still love it like everyone else did.
Read it Michelle S!! It’s my go-to book when I’m trying to convert someone to Indie romance and I usually end up re-reading it with them, it’s so so good. I’ve never read any Jodi Piccult either (or Emily Griffin, or Jennifer Weiner, none of those girls)
I’ve only read a couple of these. I really need to finish the EIT series.
Me too, Bev. I’m on book two. 🙂
Such an interesting set of books. I’ve read a few. Ten Little Breaths, though, so good. *snickers over the Stand* Seriously! I only saw the little mini series (issue with King’s writing) but that story… So good.
Huh, I forgot about the star crossed lovers series. I got to look into the rest of them. Thanks for that reminder!
Good list. The Stand is my favorite all time book. Have read the full version probably 4 times. Think that is why I am into apocalyptic books. Wish Kylie Scott would write another. I love reading everyone’s lists.
Wonderful list Kat. Gosh I just love these lists!!!! They not only remind me of my long forgotten but much loved books but also give me new tbrs.
The Pact!!!!! God it still haunts me and read it years ago during a Jodi Picoult binge.
Sea if Tranquility….bliss. Captive in the Dark ….OMG. Thoughtless, Edge of Never….awesome.
But for those who haven’t read The Pact….do it please.
Thanks Kat xx
Great list Kat! I haven’t read 8 out of the 15! I’ve had Flat Out Love and Ten Tiny Breaths downloaded for months. Loved Sea of Tranquility as you all know.
Yeah The Pact….. She said the magic word, “haunts”!
I love lists… Thank you to Kat for sharing your personal faves and to Maryse, as always.
I have read The Pact & I completely agree. Haunted by it. I have also read Captive in the Dark…oh Caleb…you big mean bully!!! Other than that… I haven’t read any, so I see I’m starting a new list!
Great reading taste, Kat…I’ve actually read 10 from the list above! I haven’t read 1, 6, 9 and 10 from the favorites and 4 from the honorable mentions, but I *do* have 1 and 6 sitting on my iPad. I saw The Pact Lifetime movie years ago but remember very little about it, so now I want to read the book…y’all had me at haunt. 😉
I know we’re familiar with (and love!) many of those up there, but I can’t remember if we’ve chatted much here about Find You In the Dark…ladies, FYITD and the sequel are GREAT!! So full of up-and-down emotions, and you can’t help but feel helpless (but still hopeful) right along with the h. SO good!
Amy, read one and six. Both were so good. You can take up number ten with MichelleS.
Seriously, YOU haven’t read the Captive in the Dark series? *shakes her head*
Amy, YOU haven’t read Captive in the Dark?!?!? Whhaattt?!??? Blasphemy I say! The whole series is awesome! Caleb! I feel a new challenge coming on….
*gasp*!!!!!! 😯
Kat, I haven’t read most on your list, which is great–more to put on my tbr list!! #1 I’ve had on my tbr list for a while- just wasn’t sure about the other 5 books in the series; specifically are they standalones or is it a true series.
Uh-oh, I haven’t read Captive in the Dark either, maybe Amy & I can buddy read it! 😉
Oh Jean! Glad I caught you here. *snicker* I finally finished SoT! Yea me! And yea you for recommending it on your favorites list. Beautiful, just…beautiful.
Amy! Even “I’ve” read Captive in the Dark. *shakes head sadly*
MichelleS…ooohhh Miiicheeelleeee, where are you?
I’m going to deviate from my Reader Favorites list to read Lips Like Ice. I’ve read every one of your recommendations for over a year, so why stop now right? ;-). I can’t wait. I love going into a book already knowing I’m going to love it.
Lips like Ice?
*runs to Amazon to look it up*
Aw crap…I’ve gone and started it now. Here I thought I had appeased you all by reading SR, and now I’m gonna have an angry mob throwing peanuts at me over CITD!! *grabs Cheryl as a body shield* She hasn’t read it either!!
See… see how much I Love Captive in the Dark? I knew what that acronym was immediately. Didn’t even have to sit there and ponder it.
*chucks peanuts at Amy and Cheryl*
*yanks Maryse back to blog” ummm, sorry Maryse, you must have missed the post where MichelleS explains Lips Like Ice is an alien abduction erotica…made just for Fabi. LOL I don’t think that’s really your thing. Figured I better save you a mad rush to Amazon. :-/
Amy, it’s so you! Before I knew I was reading dark books, I read that. It’s all angsty, fear, darkness, kidnapping goodness. How can you resist?
Holy…I had 14 browser windows open on my phone and ALL of them were on Maryse.net. can it be called an addiction yet? 🙂
**** Jumping up and down clapping **** Oh Fabi! Wouldn’t it be AWESOME if Maryse DID read lips Like Ice? *** more cackling *** I’d pay to see that reaction video!
I hope you enjoy it like I did – it just really struck a chord with me. Maybe it was just the timing, and what I was in the mood for. Who knows. His journey to discover who he is and what he wants is touching. But none of it was over done. The underlying themes were strong and resonated with me. Anyhoo – can’t wait to hear what you have to say about this weird find.
I also love the Elemental Mysteries books. They’re great.
Totally agree Michelle S. Elemental Mysteries doesn’t get the love and attention it deserves. I talked my mom into reading it after I did. She didnt really do vampires at the time but she still loves Gio. 1 of her kindle devices is named after him actually.
Amy Find You In the Dark and the sequel were amazing! I can usually gauge if I loved loved a book by if I can remember both the female and male character. It’s easy to remember the guy not always the girl though.
Cheryl to be honest. I have the other books on my kindle. But I’ve only read Ten Tiny Breaths. To me it was a standalone. The other books are about different characters so you should be good. TTB is a book my mom read before me and she talked about how much I needed to read it. Damn was she right.
Ladies if you want to do a group read of The Pact just let me know. Id love to reread it and see everyone’s perspectives
