YAY KIM!!! She’s back with a favorites list!! I love Kim and she’s been with us for a long time (on our Facebook page, too), and once upon a time… she sent us THIS list Reader Favorites – Kim’s Top Reads for 2015
And now, we get more!!!
But first, some of her highlights over the last year and a half!
Her love of rock stars: I have so many rock star crushes and rocker books are one of my most favourite tropes (hello Jake Wethers). My latest age inappropriate crush is Harry Styles. I love his zero f*cks given attitude, his minxy British bad boy vibes and naughty sense of humour. He’s pretty easy on the eyes as well and if Stevie Nicks can be his BFF, I don’t feel too pervy on the age gap 😉
Her “first” dark read: The Dark Duet by CJ Roberts was my first foray in to the dark side. One book that also took me out of my comfort zone yet was curiously arousing in the same way was Deliver by Pam Godwin.
A slice of her life in 2018 (and boy do I get this!!):
1. Tornado took out the power station in my neighborhood on Friday afternoon putting 187K homes without power
2. I did not have the emergency kit my Dad always warned me to have
3. I will be setting up an emergency kit this week 😀
P.S. I get a total kick out of her being a Libra (and the comment she made in her post below because it’s so true. In fact, some of my very favorite people are Libras. I’m surrounded by the most loving and supportive women and each one is a Libra).
She says:
My books are listed in alphabetical order as the Libra in me does not like to hurt feelings!
Top 5 for 2019
Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid ~ What a unique and interesting concept for a book that reads like a documentary. I heard that the Audible version was incredible but my 3 second commute to the home office doesn’t lend itself to audio books. I loved this book and can not wait for the Amazon adaptation.
F*ck Marriage by Tarryn Fisher ~ I would probably read a book of chants if Tarryn were to pen one. This author for me is the one with all the words. She tends to bend your mind and take you out of your comfort zone yet reward you with original well written stories time and time again. TF is on my dream dinner guest list with her bestie CoHo.
METHOD by Kate Stewart ~ Kate was a new to me author when I read Drive a couple years ago. Since then, she has become a must read author for me. I really loved this interesting take on the lengths a method actor goes to in order to stay in character for a film. We’ve all heard the horror stories from set and Kate interpreted it perfectly in this difficult at times to read book.
Regretting You by Colleen Hoover ~ In my mind Colleen and I are besties. I look nothing like Tarryn unfortunately and I certainly don’t write amazing books like her but we share other similarities including a black heart so obviously Colleen is my imaginary bestie. She is one of the most kind-hearted, generous, hilarious public figures and following her on social media brings joy to every day. Another must read author for me, Colleen is the queen of character development. This story of love, loss and forgiveness hit me right in the feels as her books usually do. Colleen is on my dream dinner party list with her real BFF Tarryn.
The Nightingale: A Novel by Kristin Hannah ~ What was I waiting for!?! This book sat on my Kindle from the time it released until June of this year. I am typically not drawn to historical fiction but this story held my interest from page 1 and rewarded me with one of the best written stories I’ve ever read. I truly hope this movie gets made!!!
Overall, it’s been a great year for readers. Thanks to all the authors for sharing their life’s work with us and thanks to you Maryse for a providing a great place for recommendations and fun times!
Minxy. Lol, I love it and want a reason to use this word now. I haven’t read a memoir or biography in so long but I do love them.
I really do want to try Daisy Jones. For all the love on here for the author I’ve still not read her work.
I loved Daisy Jones, but I don’t think it’s the best representation of TJR since it’s so different for her. I’d suggest starting with anything prior to Evelyn Hugo if you prefer a strong romantic element or anything after if you don’t.
I need to read EH! TJR is an incredible writer, strong romantic element or not
Minxy probably isn’t even a word but it sure seems to suit Harry 🤣 Daisy is super unique and I think that’s why it really struck a chord with me!
Oops, posted your reply to the wrong comment!
“In my mind Colleen and I are besties”
😂😂😂
I love it! I want to be bff’s with all my fave authors.
Same 🤣
I have the Nightingale in hard cover AND bought the kindle version and still have not read it! Have to get to that!
I almost didn’t read Daisy when I saw/read that it was written in interview style. But who am I kidding. All of her books that I’ve read have been excellent.
Regretting You is waiting in my kindle. I am “saving” it. Not sure for what though.
I am not the biggest fan of historical fiction because they are sometimes very long winded but The Nightingale was compelling from page 1. In another 4 years I will read The Great Alone 😂 Daisy was really hyped well before the release so I was on it right away. She is a great author. As for Regretting You, it was very relatable which I think is one of Coho’s great talents. She is always a sure thing for me.
Big thanks for the recommendation for Method…I’ll be reading that. I also thought
F*ck Marriage was a 5-star read…good call! Tried but couldn’t get into Daisy Jones – not sure why – but may try one more time. Good stuff! Mony
I read Daisy the minute it released because it was highly recommended by someone that got an early copy. I got sucked in right away and was intrigued by the unique format so maybe it’s just not your cup of tea. Another friend listened on audible and said that version was amazing so that could be an option. Regardless, it will be adapted as an Amazon series so you can always just wait and watch that!
Have you read The Wives by TF? That dark goddess can write!!!
Good advice…thanks for this Kim! Thanks for the recommendation for The Wives…thrillers are not my preferred genre but if I get the courage, I will read it. Love all you suggestions…don’t hold back.!
