This is sort of a hybrid post. A mix between a reader question and of course, reader favorites! Our favorites!
One of our fellow readers is asking TWO questions (book-related), and I think we’ll have fun with this one.Β πΒ She’s making her list, from OUR lists and she asks:
Milissa: “Ok Maryse I would like to see if I can get everyone’s help. I am making my Birthday and Christmas wish list. I would like to see if everyone could send me their topΒ 5Β favoritesΒ books. “The Man I Love” is one of my favorites.
And I don’t know why I can’t like “Thoughtless”. Read it twice just to be sure.
Karin, I had a hard time with Thoughtless too. But The Man I Love is my all time fave <3
Great lists. Many of my favorites are included. My list would include Aleatha Romig’s “Consequences Series”.
This was an amazing post..I love seeing so many of my favs on there…only 5 is tough…I think I would add The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones …they are fantastic…I would also add Retrieval by Aly Martinez absolutely AMAZING…I would love anything signed by KA or Cassandra Clare ( loved the Mortal Instruments Series)! Getting ready for the top 2016 books list..I hope you do that series of posts again Maryse…that was fun seeing everyone’s favs!
This wasn’t a 2016 read, but a book I’m pretty evangelical about is “Kitchens of the Great Midwest.” If you’re a foodie, I think you’ll really love this quirky novel. But I recommend it to everyone.
I love the “A Court of Thorn and Roses” series by Sarah J. Maas. The second one, “A Court of Mist and Fury” was breathtaking and also, had a great message for us women. Love it!!
Golden Dynasty, Kristen Ashley
Outlander – signed!!!
Bronze Horseman Trilogy
The Tairen Soul series
The Knights of the Black Swan Series – she sent me a signed book, so I know she will autograph!!! Yay!
Oh Debora…I absolutely agree…I love all things Sarah J Maas…favorite author of 2016! Court of Mist and Fury was AMAZING!
I heard a lot of about Outlander π
I’d like to read Six of crows! I’ll have it from Santa π

? Someone on this blog hasn’t read Kristen Ashley? What the? Get on it now, Jenn! You could maybe try Motorcycle Man or At Peace for starters. What does everyone else recommend for a KA for Jenn to start with?
Jan-lol yeah I know crazy…right? but every time I go and look at all her books I become overwhelmed and do not know where to start
Last Hour of Gaan!!! OMG. How could I forget? And Wolfsong!!! ARGH.
Wow! To only pick 5 is hard. I’m also not able to not have some duplicates.
1. Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
2. Thoughtless series by S.C. Stephens
3. Consequences series by Aleatha Tonight
4. Addicted/Calloway Sisters series by Becca & Kristie Ritchie
5. Breathing series by Rebecca Donovan
I’d love to have Slammed series by Colleen Hoover signed.
I know I picked all series instead of standalone books…but when we are talking about all time faves, I love series more. You just can’t get the same “feel” out of a single story that you can from an entire series.
I am so struggling through thoughtless. I’m really trying after all the reviews. What’s wrong with me????
Love the top 5 lists. Now I have a go-to when I need a new book. I’ve read and loved a lot of the books listed, but I’m kinda surprised “How to Kill a Rockstar” by Tiffanie DeBartolo was not included on any list. Anyways, thanks!
Jenn…you need to jump on the KA bandwagon ASAP…she has a ton of series so it can feel overwhelming…characters from one series may appear in another series but overall you can read them in any order…my reading order suggestion is this:
1. Rock Chick series (Meet Lee Nightengale and the crew!)
2. Dream Man Series
3. Chaos Series
4. Colorado Rocky Mountain Series (Sweet Dreams …AMAZING)
5. The Burg Series
6. If you like paranormal / fantasy then read her Three Series, Fantasyland Series, and Reincarnation Series (Any Order)
7. Then she has some standalones like Play it Safe and Heaven and Hell…both were really good and I think may have some additional books coming.
8. Magdalene Series (the third book is still coming out but the first two were beautiful and totally KA).
9. Her newest ones are the Honey Series…I can’t wait!
I think I got them all if not most of them…you will not regret jumping in….Enjoy!
Theresa thank you so much; I am just finishing up “Find Me Alastar” 72% done and still not sure where this one is going but I am committed to finishing. I will jump on the first series you mentioned.I have four days off of work starting Thursday so perfect time to jump in. Thank you again for taking the time to organize this for me and to Jan for asking for help on my behalf. You girls rock. π
No problem…enjoy!
Debbie there’s nothing wrong with you. π We all like what we like (or dislike!) I too have been unable to finish some books that everyone else seems to fav. I’ve tried Thoughtless a couple of times and (so far) haven’t finished. Kellen is cute, though…. π I want to give it another try, and I will one day. Same with The Man I Love….. Maybe I’ll be in a more receptive mood next time.
Other popular books I just two or three-starred instead of floving like everyone else did are Archer’s Voice, Racing The Sun (dnf, so far), Painted Faces (just read it – 3 stars), Mr President, Idol and Managed, Royally Screwed, Surviving Raine, Dirty (Dive Bar) …. I could go on, but I’m stopping now.
But there are other popular books I love e.g. Kulti, the Beautiful series, Lauren Gilley, etc etc My own likes and dislikes don’t even make sense to me, sometimes! I think I’m just Miss Fussy-fusspot. I do approach each new book with an open (even hopeful!) mind, but if I’m disappointed I will tell the truth as I see it. I don’t like giving dishonest reviews. I always try to say what I really think about a book, even if everyone else floved it and I didn’t.
I will never criticise anyone’s else’s book loves. It’s not my right, and if they flove a book, great! Win-win, for them and the author. But, be not afraid to say you don’t love it as well. Stick to your guns, I say.
Ok….. *puts soapbox away, feeling slightly embarrassed*
Agreed Jan. Our tastes and enjoyment of the books we read are ours. They are personal to each reader, and none of us should feel bad for how we took it in… for how we experienced it (good or bad).
And sometimes, mood really affects our reading experience. Sometimes I pick up a book I’m sure I’ll love (a premise and writing quality that I’ve loved in the past) and it just… doesn’t fit me. Is it that day? That mood? That book? Who knows, but I know I only want to read and finish a book that I’m INTO right then and there. That is why we love reading. Because it’s fun.
And sometimes I’ll pick up a book that is not my norm (not a premise that I’m usually attracted to) and it will end up being a forever favorite.
There’s a bunch but definitely my favorite list is:
Contemporary, 1) Anything Kristen Ashley, 2) SC Stephens Thoughtless Series, 3) Nora Roberts The MacGregor’s Series, 4) Anything Kristen Proby and 5) Anything K. Bromberg.
Historical Romance, 1) Pride& Prejudice by Jane Austen, 2) Jennifer Ashley Mackenzie’s Series, 2) Anne Mallory Lords of Intrigue Series, 3) Patricia Rice Surrender, 4) Maya Bank McCabe Trilogy and 5) Anything Julie Garwood.
Paranormal Romance, 1) Larissa Ione Demonica/Lord of Deliverance Series, 2) Elizabeth Hunter The Irin Series, 3) Anything Nalini Singh, 4) Dianne Duvall Immortal Series and 5) Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels.
Erotica Romance
1) Tara Sue Me The Submissive Series, 2) Sylvia Day Crossfire Series, 3) Raine Miller The Blackstone Series, 4) Anything CD Reiss and 5) RK Lilley Up In The Air Series.
Hope you enjoy!!^_^
Sorry, haven’t read the whole list yet. I’m a paranormal and fantasy romance kind of girl. Did antone include the Steal The Light series by Lexi Blake? Soooo good. Also the Darkest London series by Bec McMaster. I love her writing. Lots of tragic male heroes and feisty females. Kate Elliot wrote a YA series called Cold Magic, also very good, imaginative and unique. Oh and the Elders and Welders series by Margaret Foxe. A Dark Heart is my most favorite of that one.
Yeah Maryse, that mood thing has happened to me too. A book I didn’t like much when I tried it the first time around has sometimes seemed much more enjoyable when I gave it another try. So I do usually give my dnf’s a second chance a few months later (unless they were *really* bad……….)
And yeah, don’t you love it when you find a new, unexpected fav just out of the blue? e.g. Lauren Gilley was that for me π
Thank you Lisa…I am always looking for new paranormal fantasy books and these are not ones I have heard of before…I am going to check them out! Reading Wicked from Jennifer Armentrout right now and it is pretty good!
Top 5…
1.) Real by Katy Evans – (also, ultimate dream signed novel)
2.) Fallen Crest Series by Tijan
3.) Fifty Shades of Grey Series EL James
4.) Consequences Series Althea Romig
5.) Breathless Series Maya Banks
I have to give a special shout-out for some of my other favorites:
Secret Life of Ana by Marissa Honeycutt, Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, Kylie Scott for all Stage Dive, Captive In the Dark by CJ Roberts, Erin Watt, anything Kristen Ashley….
I keep seeing “A Gentleman in Moscow” popping up everywhere so I’m one clicking. Thanks Suanne.
I love Me before you and every time i go to wright a review on my book blog I start to cry.
