When I started the “genre categories” section on the blog, I received requests for a “cowboys” section, so I’m on it (along with a few “reader requests” for cowboy book recommendations) Leslie (and crew) asked:
Leslie: We have a cowboy themed challenge for November and would love to hear people’s faves (and maybe even variations like country music star H, etc). Think you could ask around?
Ela: Also, to add to Leslie’s comment….some of us would prefer a book about riding a cowboy….preferably US…. Just sayin’ for a friend.
Leslie: Well yes Ela, we’d like the books to include the “riding” of said sexy cowboy. *blushes*
Grey: *looks around* what did I walk into???* That riding a cowboy comment was totally directed towards me, BTW! *tosses glitter* Uh, what was that about a bully… Lead me… Is there such a thing about a bully cowboy that I can ride because *that* would be EPIC!! Oh, *sheepish wave*, hi everyone! Thanks, Maryse, as always for this fantastic list!
Kristina: I love cowboy romance and I love that you gave them their own category!!!! Seriously, I’m just so happy lol!!!
Michelle: …more western romances (I like my cowboys!)
GASP!!! Tee heeeeeeeeee!!!!!! 😛 *snort* GAH!!! How I love you guys!!!!
I don’t have much “cowboy romance” experience (although I have no idea why, as I find them super-sexy, especially the bad-ass bull riders), but I’ve a few up my sleeve, and I know you do too!
Let’s make a list!!
Trisha: Lol rough rider series by Lorelei James has some fun cowboys!!!
Becky: I second the rough rider series by Lorelei James.
Maryse: Oh book #1 (Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders Book 1) sounds EXACTLY like what Ela is looking for. 😉
MH: I also love Lorelei James. Having been raised by a cowboy and having spent some tough years in rural/ranchy areas, I think for me she injects alpha males (and sometimes alphaholes!) into real life amazingly well. Like flashback-to-my-own-20s-angst well. And she nails “take no prisoners/support my family with whatever it takes” women too.
Lisa: …the most awesome cowboy series ever. Will be reading Gone Country tomorrow while I wait to get my car serviced. Bet that will be interesting.
Beth: OMG… I can’t believe the Rough Rough Riders were not already on your list. I feel like I have let the McKays and you down by not telling you about them already. They are definitely blush, giggle and swoon worthy. The girls kick ass too! Cowboy, take me away!!!!
Anna: yes- the series is worth reading! Hot cowboys galore!
Lauren: Have you read the Rough Riders Series from Lorelei James. The guys are not rockers but cowboys and several of them are bad boys but the series is great. I am not usually a cowboy type of girl and I loved each of the books.
Danielle: just started reading the series and WOW.. its hot!!! so hot in fact i’m stuck reading it out of order.. i started with Chasing Eight since they’re so popular with all the local (and some not so local) libraries i’ve only gotten to read a few more and i’m having to wait a while before i can gett the rest.. i swear if i ever win the lotto i’m spending millions on books.. (only slighty joking).. anywho while looking for this series at the libraries i came across Lorelei James’ Blacktop Cowboys.. and loved it!!!
it starts with Corralled: A Blacktop Cowboys Novel, then Saddled and Spurred (Blacktop Cowboys Novel Book 2), Wrangled and Tangled (Blacktop Cowboys Novel Book 3), and then One Night Rodeo (Blacktop Cowboys Novel Book 4).. i totally recommend book series of books
Joy: I love a western romance!
- If she wants quick and dirty, check out Alexa Riley’s Cowboys and Virgins (4 books) series.
- Melanie Harlow’s After We Fall was hot!!!
- Nicole Edwards has cowboys (brothers that get together and open a sex resort), in her Alluring Indulgence series as well as her Club Destiny series.
- Oh, I can’t forget Cherise Sinclaire’s Mountain Masters & Dark Haven!!
- Helen Hardt’s Steel Brothers series,
- Not Quite Dating by Catherine Bybee,
- Sawyer Bennett’s Wicked Horse and
- Kathleen Brooks’ Bluegrass series.
Kim: The Walker Brothers! Nicole Edwards has all those sexy cowboys as alphas!
Michelle M: I think the “cowboy list” is an awesome idea! I think you would have to include all the Walker brothers from … Alluring Indulgence series. I know they don’t exactly ride horses, but they do wear cowboy hats and boots. They drive big old pick-up trucks. They have that down home not afraid of a hard day’s work kind of values. And once they get it through their head and heart that they’re in love, then nothing is going to stand in their way of the happy ever after. Write that cowboy list Maryse!
Teri: I’m reading this series called Jamison Valley series by Devney Perry. It’s set in a small ranching town in Montana. It very much reminds me (and from the reviews everyone else) of Kristen Ashley! Great writing.
Rebecca: Yes! I love this series! Totally reminds me of K.A. too.
Maria: Think you should check out sable hunter. Great cowboy romances. Her hell yeah series is awesome
Anne: I am almost finished with Place Your Betts (The Marilyns Book 1) and really liking it. Gabe is one sexy cowboy. Yeeehah lol
Jean: Nobody’s Dream (Rescue Me Saga #6) by Kallypso Masters. She is so broken but about to be saved by a hot cowboy who rescues abused horses. Love this series!
Kimberlyindy: Cowboy Justice (Catcher Creek Book 2) by Melissa Cutler (this is the 2nd book of 3 and oh so good)
MichelleS: …Donners of the Dead: A Zombie Western Romance? That wacky stand alone about the old west meets zombies? And a “half breed” girl and the tall dark and dangerous cowboy? Strangely good in a really weird way.
- The McKettrick Series (1-3) by Linda Lael Miller – Cowboys and Family
- The Texan’s Wager (The Wife Lottery Book 1) by Jodi Thomas
MichelleS: (Play It Safe by Kristen Ashley). I skipped it time and time again because it is a true stand alone and I’m not a big cowboy fan….. UNTIL GRAYSON CODY!!!! What was I thinking? I loved just about everything about that book. I still don’t read cowboy romance – but I would revisit Grayson anytime.
Lynn: Grayson Cody….my cowboy alpha male:-)
Kerry: If anyone is looking for cowboy/ranch stories try “Texas” series by R.J. Scott or the series by A.J. Llewellyn, “Orgasmic Texas Dawn (Orgasmic Texas Dawn Series Book 1)” <— M/M ROMANCE
Melissa C: Gentling the Cowboy (NOTE: Now retitled Taken, Not Spurred (Lone Star Burn Book 1)) is a wonderful and amazing summer/fall read. I loved it. Ruth Caredello really outdid herself with this one.
Marisa: Maryse, when you feel like laughing out loud, crying, catching yourself smiling with a story and falling in love with a sexy cowboy, read Shine Not Burn. Excellent read! I can’t remember the last time a book made me laugh to the point that DH asks what’s going on.
Jeanie V: If you don’t already love cowboys, you will after reading Shine Not Burn! OMG – the blackjack table parts had me laughing my butt off!!! Anyone else???
Erin M: Read Shine not Burn too…good with sexy cowboys and blackjack…
Kristina: I loved Shine Not Burn… so hilarious and sweet. If you love sexy cowboys ( I sure do!), check out The Six Pack Ranch series by Vivian Arend. They’re Rocky Mountain Canadian cowboys (woo- even better!!) She also writes adult paranormal novels.
mamabear: Come To Me by Sofia Grey… Short story about a psychic and a cowboy finding each other through the miles. A really good short story…
Mistik: …a British girl and a Texas cowboy who rocks her world. It’s sweet, sexy and delicious. Like chocolate.
Freda: I’m rereading the Cowboy series ”Luke (The Cowboys)” by Leigh Greenwood..excellent series!
Jan: The Travis series by Lisa Kleypas. Not *exactly* cowboys but they’re Texans anyways. LOL. Great series. Starts with Sugar Daddy. Susan Fanetti’s Sawtooth Mountains books are about ranchers. Somewhere; and Someday.
Kim: Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series features cowboys including brother Maverick who is a retired rodeo star. Also, check out Impossible by Laurel Ulen Curtis (who we also know as one half of Max Monroe!). This is one of her first books but I loved it, and it features a bull rider and a storm chaser
Ann: Cat Johnson has quite a few good ones my latest favourites are Midnight Heat (Midnight Cowboys Book 3) and Midnight Wrangler (Midnight Cowboys Book 2) but the Oklahoma nights series were great too
Carolin: I loved The Vow by Linda Lael Miller
JulieO: Smooth Talking Stranger: A Novel (Travis Book 3) one of my favorite books. On my top 10. Part of the Travis series. Not really a cowboy but he’s a Texan, close enough for me. And the scene in the parking garage is one of my all time hunk of burning Love favorites!
Ashley:
- Reckless by Lex Martin
- Arrogant Devil by R.S. Grey
- Bittersweet (True North Book 1) by Sarina Bowen (the whole Trus North Series is great!)
- Grayson’s Vow by Mia Sheridan
- The Bride Series by S. Doyle
Ann: I can’t believe I forgot to tell you about Somebody Like You (Maverick Junction Book 1)!! It’s my absolute favourite contemporary western romance and I have to have read I 10 times. Also Nearest Thing to Heaven (Maverick Junction Book 2), and Can’t Stop Lovin’ You (Maverick Junction Book 3), also by Lynette Austin.
