Since J.A. Redmerski’s MUCH LOVED “In the Company of Killers” series is being made into a movie and TV series I’ve had a few requests lately for a list of our favorite assassins romance books!
Robyn: I’m rereading JA Redmerski’s In the Company of Killers series. I am so in love with these books even though I’ve read them so many times. There is just something about assassins and their mates that hook me. I love this trope! We should make a list Maryse!
Stephanie: I would also love to see Maryse create a list of Assassin’s novels because I absolutely loved the Killing Sarai (In the Company of Killers Book 1) Series and haven’t really seen any other series/novels like it.
Allison: I tend to like dark novels. I love assassins. I like guys who are sort of shady but one just has to love them anyway.
Maryse: I haven’t read many but one that I LOVE is “Ricochet (A Vigilantes Novel)” by Keri Lake. OMG!! SO GOOOOOOD!! And that cover. *ooooomph* P.S. Here’s my Book Review
Anne: Just finished Ricochet and it blew me away!! The writing, the story, the grittiness, were great! The twist in the end shocked me but it explains so much! As soon as I finished Ricochet I went and one clicked Backfire. Keri Lake is amazing!
Pia: First I have to finish Backfire by Keri Lake. I’m at 92% and holy moly what a scary and angsty read. I thought that Ricochet was bad, but add another 50% of all the scary stuff, and you have Backfire. But a 5 star read for sure – just like Ricochet.
Jean: Yes Pia! Loved Backfire and Ricochet….both so great!
What about you? Any favorites that MUST BE on the list (and are must reads?)
Tasara: In the Company of Killers by JA Redmerski. Best assassin series EVER! …Didn’t read the whole post. Lol I saw assassin and got excited.
Katie: Tasara don’t worry I didn’t either. When this book first came out. I was mind blown. It’s hard to beat.
Rebecka: I really liked the Company of Killers. Swan and the Jackal being my fav of them.
Kelly: In the Company of Killers series…could not get enough!
Meagan: Just stopping in here to say that after seeing this post I downloaded Killing Sarai and I am absolutely in love! I’m only 41% in and Soo hoping there’s sequels lol
Robyn: My other favorite assassin books are Lea Griffiths, No Mercy series. …You guys have to read both these series, they are that good! I need more assassin books stat!
Jennifer: Bullet to the Heart by Lea Griffiths is a great read…it was on a list a couple of months ago and I finally read it…strong female character who is an assassin…highly recommend
Georgia: …I love this series. Women assassins. Its soo soo good.
Victoria: Bullet to the Heart made me realize as much as I love a damsel in distress, reading about a heroine that kicks serious ass totally ROCKS!
Jessica: My ALL-Time favorite Book is Bullet to the Heart. …You will Love this book. It has all your favorite things. An Alpha hero, kick ass heroine, angst, heartbreak, darkness and light. Promise you will have serious gooseys. The prologue alone will destroy you.
Michelle: Bloodstained Beauty by Ella Fields!
Jenn: Maryse-In regards to Bloodstained Beauty; other than the blurb you posted I read nothing about this book and just went in blind. That is the best way to experience this amazing book. It captivated me from beginning to end as I am done now. It overwhelmed me, consumed me and yes had me questioning my sanity. (love when that happens) It was freaking amazing! Lived and Loved every word of it!
Nay: I’m LOVING Bloodstained Beauty. What a surprise! It’s like nothing I’ve ever read. I so enjoy finding books like this that stand apart from the rest. It reminds me of something Jewel Ann would have written, yet it’s still in Ella Fields’ distinct romantic style.
Amy: Love this trope! I really enjoyed both of these series:
- Child of the Ghosts by Jonathan Moeller
- The Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker
Tasha: Kresley Cole’s The Game Maker Series. Hot Russians 😍😍😍
Kathy P: I just started The Master by Kresley Cole. I really enjoyed The Professional as it gave me my fix of Russian Mafia and of course one of the Alpha of Alpha males.
Michelle M: Just finished The Professional: Part 2. HOT! HOT! HOT! That last page is killing me for Part 3 now! Part 3 is supposed to be out January 20th. I think I might just read all of them again when Part 3 comes out.
Laura: Isabel Jordan’s Harper Hall Investigations series. Noah Riddick – *fans self*.
Laura: I’m currently reading the urban fantasy novel, “Semi-Charmed: (Harper Hall Investigations Book 1)” by Isabel Jordan. …I’m halfway through the first book and am really enjoying it. I appreciate that the heroine is snarky but doesn’t make ludicrous decisions that endanger her life every chapter (ie. she isn’t too stupid to live). The story also features a dark, tortured mysterious hero.
Sharona: Lets not forget Kathleen Turner suspense romance series by Tiffany Snow. The two sexy Heros in these books are the infamous brothers Blane and Kade. Blane is an attorney for the mob and carries a gun in his waistband. Kade is an ex-FBI agent, turned vigilante assassin for hire.
Leslie M: Kathleen Turner series is major awesome-sauce!! …Highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys love triangle. …I honestly couldn’t pick a fave or predict the ending.
Cristina: I LOVED Tiffany Snow’s Kathleen Turner series! Kade Dennon is one of my top book boyfriends! God I love bad brooding boys with a tender heart! *swoon* The first book in the series starts out a little slow which saddens me because it turns some people away. However, I find that with long series, most first books are like that, it kinda sets the scene. Don’t you think?
Be that as it may, once the series took off it was one heck of a great ride! Ms. Snow can really pull off a great love triangle! I love the angsty push and pull. I love romance/suspense books. That was one series that I DEVOURED in a short period of time. And! That’s one of my very rare re-reads.
Cindy: …the Kathleen Turner series. They get better and better each book!
Stacie: had never heard of the Kathleen Turner series so I dove in and oh my I am so glad I did. This series is now in my top 5 of all time!!! I’m reading book 5 now and am so sad that this series is almost over for me I just wanted to say thank you for helping me find a new book love!!!
Robyn: I’m reading a series by Samantha Jacobey called Captive (a New Life). Let me tell you, I’m on book 3 of 7 and I can’t put it down! This girl has been raised in a mercenary m/c gang as an assassin since she was little. I’m thinking she was kidnapped. While growing up she was basically used as their sex slave. She got sick of it and killed the whole gang with her “skills”. Now the FBI is involved plus a group called The Organization is looking for her. It’s twisty and turny, a bit of romance (that’s supposed to perk up in the next couple of books) and mystery. It’s for sure a dark read. It’s like a train wreck….when everything is going good, BAM! Something bad happens. I’m loving it!
Robyn: I think Sierra Dean’s Secret McQueen series fit this genre. …I’ve read Secret McQueen….loved it!
Julie: …the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean. I love this series. It’s totally worth checking out. You should give it a try.
Tessa: Finished Something Secret This Way Comes. *grins* I’m going to start devouring the rest of those…
Michelle: Sierra dean – secret series. Great reads with paranormal themes and steamy scenes to keep a girl up at night (LOL).
Tessa: I was in a book rut after the Secret McQueen book.
Yvette: The Missing Link by J. M. Sevilla — he’s an assassin. ’nuff said! …check these out. You won’t be sorry — I promise…
Leslie M: The Missing Link by J.M. Sevilla. It’s dark AND smutty. I really liked it. It’s two book series.
Jen C: I absolutely LOVED Marked. Part I: The missing Link
Kristine: I just finished Marked Part 1: The Missing Link by J.M. Sevilla and WOW! I can honestly say that I know why this scored 5 stars on Amazon. What an amazing read……full of gritty suspense, an unbelievably hot Alpha Man and his incredibly spunky female counterpart. If you are a Kristen Ashley fan I dare say you need to buy this one…
Donna: Maryse – Highly recommend: Marked. Part I: The missing Link and Beginnings, by J.M. Sevilla!!! Both books are 5 stars! The two books are completed opposites of each other but both soooooo good! If you are in the mood for a bad boy I would recommend Mark or if you want sweet go with beginnings. Both boys are will leave you with a book hangover! This is now one for my favorite authors.
Lisa B: …book that has stayed with me- Marked. Part I: The missing Link by J.M. Sevilla. I thought I was reading another bad boy with secrets who tires to keep away from the good girl, but boy was I wrong, it was so much more than that. It’s been a long time since a book had me laughing one minute, tearing up and swooning in another, and saying WTF is going on in the next. If anyone decides to read this book, I highly recommend not reading any spoilers, I’m not sure the book would have been as much fun if I knew what to expect.
bev: Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz might fit the bill. I’m reading the book now… It’s about an assassin.
Kooloo: And for those who are struggling in Book Slump-Land why not take a break from your regularly scheduled genres *gasps and booing from the audience* Now now just wait hear me before you condemn me! Lol!
I’m telling you from experience it makes you appreciate what you love about reading even more. TRUST Me. So where does one start well why not try what I call “The Jason Bourne-like genre” and my personal favourite *trumpets blast*
“Orphan X” by Gregg Hurwitz
You can thank me later 😉
Dottie: Last Hit (A Hitman Novel Book 1) by Jessica Clare This is the only assassin book I’ve read
Leslie M: Last Hit (Hitman #1) – Its one of those where you end up falling in love & swooning over a murderer! *gasp* I did this on audio. The narration was odd at first, but once I got used to the accent, I loved it.
Crystal: I just finished Last Hit by Jessica Claire & OMG I absolutely loved it!!
Anna: Dirty, Dark, and Deadly series by J.A. Huss. Also I think Monster in His Eyes series by J.M. Darhower fits this. I’m pretty sure the H was an assassin for the mob.
Arlyn: Not necessarily an assassin but definitely a bad guy, RAW by Bella Aurora
Maryse: YESSSS!! I LOVED that one!!!
Shunda: Just finished reading Raw..omg that was intense! Imagine 50 shades with a little Last hit thrown in. Mind=blown
Linda: The Assassin’s Heart (The Assassins Series Book 1) by J.A. Kazimer. I believe there are three in the series.
Tasara: Does Margo from Marrow by Tarryn Fisher count?
Maryse: That one was one of my FAVORITES from her. I’m adding it. I think it fits!
marina: I’m reading Marrow now (late). I’m always amazed by Tarryn Fisher’s writing. So good.
Tasha J: Assassin’s Roommate <— Alright all you readers in a rut, and not in a rut…I’m completely hooked on this web series right now. It’s kind of like a comic, and I really hate comics, I can never follow them, but I’m totally addicted. Even when it gets a little corny and predictable. lol I’m on season 2 now, it’s reminding me of Tiffany Snow’s books.
Leslie M: I don’t like graphic novels at all but I am enjoying Tasha’s rec of Assassin’s Roommate. It IS very Tiffany Snow-ish. 😉
Tasha J: So far I think I’m team Jason 😀
Lani Lynn Vale: Death Angel: A Novel by Linda Howard
Katie: Maria Synder Poison Study series also doesn’t Sarah Maas have one too? Also Jeaniene Frost Halfway to the Grave: A Night Huntress Novel.
Shaked: Does Throne of Glass count?
Ash: Sarah J. Maas Throne of Glass series. The first book takes a bit to get into but books 3 through 6 are absolutely 6 star! I love everything she writes but the amount of plotting she had to do to bring this full circle is impressive. I highly, highly recommend. Its about a female assassin and while there is a romance on the side, it is not the driver of the story by any means.
Anna: Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. ❤️
Kylie Short: Shadow Kin: A Novel of the Half-Light City by M J Scott is the first in The Half-Light City series and features an assassin heroine. The cover is awesome.
- Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep
- Young Love Murder (Young Assassins Book 1) by April Brookshire
- His Fair Assassin by Robin LaFevers
Anna: Hellhound: Episode One: Dead is Dead (Hellhound Series Book 1) by Rue Volley
Robyn: The End of Me Series by Tara Brown <— I read a long time ago about a woman who was a Mom who drove a mini van and took her kid to soccer by day and then at night was a hired killer.

I’m so excited to read some of these books! Thank you Maryse and everyone else.
I think Sierra Dean’s Secret McQueen series fit this genre.
YAY!!! I’ll add it too. 😀
Killing Sarai is a great series. Waiting (impatiently) for the next book. The Company by JA Huss is another favorite assassin series; the audio of the book is fantastic too. I will have to check the others listed. Thanks 🙂
I also remember a book I read a long time ago about a woman who was a Mom who drove a mini van and took her kid to soccer by day and then at night was a hired killer. I can’t remember the name of the book and have way to many books to look through to find it. So if anyone else has any ideas let me know.
Robyn, I’ll post it as today’s reader question!! 🙂 We’ll kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks for working hard on this list Maryse! I agree that Tiffany Snow’s Kathleen Turner Series is absolutely phenomenal!!! It’s one of my all-time favorite series!
Evan Arden series by Shay Savage. The Single Lady Spy series by Tara Brown.
S.T Abby’s Mind F*ck Series is by far one of the best series I have ever read.
I have read a very good one by S. T. Abby. It’s five novellas that add up to be one novel. It’s called Mindf*ck. The h is a revenge killer that has a relationship with an FBI agent. Totally worth it staying up all night reading them.
OMG. I LOVE vigilante heroines and especially if they are attached to some sort of law enforcement. YAY!!!! I’m pulling this up immediately!
