It’s time for our yearly Halloween post π π» , and my absolute favorite is when we tell our own ghost stories/creepy stories. OUR VERY OWN BOOK CREW have their stories for us (below) and I am creeped out!! YAY!!!
I LOVE watching ghost hunter shows, and my favorite horror movies are ghost stories and possessions and anything demon-related (with or without exorcisms). LOL!!
You can blame my mom for that… I’m catholic and went to catholic schools all my life, so these subjects were always so taboo and scary for me… and of course, she let me watch The Exorcist as a kid, and while I was terrified, I was completely captivated (and have watched it a million more times). Other movies that are unforgettable to me that I always recommend:
- The Amitiyville Horror,
- Poltergeist, (especially that scene where the mother realizes that her daughter is being moved around on the kitchen floor)
- Ouija Origin if EvilΒ (<— one of my favorite movies ever. Started off funny and so fun – the actors are AMAZING – and then OMG I was terrified for the entire time after),
- Annabelle Comes Home (this one also terrified me, and while I enjoyed all of the Anabelles, this is truly scariest one) and
- The Possession of Michael KingΒ (<— this one wrecked me. I slept with the lights on, that night).
- Also, of course all of The Conjurings
- Of course all of the Insidious movies
- and all of the Paranormal Activity movies (especially the first one – HOLY MOLY)
As you can tell, I’m not much of a slasher flick girl (though I did love the Halloweens, and a few of the Friday the 13ths – since these characters were demons in their own right – in physical form. So… those passed my pretty-scary test).
Okay, but this is a post about our real life STORIES so let’s get started, shall we. π
Maryse: HAPPY HALLOWEEN WEEKEND! Anyone have a real-life creepy story for me? Tell me… π
Maryse: I’ll start! Of course this ghost story, I posted about a few years ago, but if you didn’t read it yet, here it is again (and there is photo evidence). π
- 4 years ago, my own ghost story. π Happy Halloween! So, hey! I have a ghost story for yaβ¦ (my trip to the RT Book Lovers Convention 2015 β Recap Part 3β¦)Β
Michelle: I lived in a rural area when I was a teen. The nearest movie theaters were half an hour away, the drive was all along two lane roads with street lights only on far flung intersections.
I was driving home from a theater late one crystal clear night with my then boyfriend. On the right side of the road I see the shadow of a bicyclist coming into view. He didnβt have any lights or reflective clothes but that wasnβt unusual. Since thereβs no other cars coming I swing into the other lane to give the guy room. As I pass him I turn to check my blind spot to be sure Iβd given him enough room. The bicyclist wasnβt there. Thinking Iβd just missed him, I checked my rear view mirror, no cyclist.
Ashley: I went to a small RELIGIOUS (non Catholic) college. Our dorm was super small and in an office park. One night I was laying in bed and suddenly awoke to a 7β tall priest standing next to my bed. I immediately closed my eyes. When I reopened them he was gone. Id heard of other girls seeing similar figures.
Nicole: We bought our house 16 years ago, after we moved in and started renovations we (me) found out we were not alone. I would see a young man outside our front door or out our kitchen window. – One of the construction workers came to me and asked me if I ever saw a man outside the windows – I was like YES. –
Cabinets that I closed would be open when I came back in the room. Our basement door would slam shut. He started chasing me at night, (I could literally feel him behind my neck). A couple times in the middle of the night our bedroom would turn freezing ice cold.
I finally talked to a friend I knew was a bit psychic and who had friends that were mediums and told her everything. She told me it was the son of the women who we bought the house from. he had died from a blood clot. A few weeks later I noticed that everything had stopped. I went back to my psychic friend and told her this. She said that she went to his grave and brought him flowers. This must have done something….. About a week later I ran into her and she told me that he was at her house now………..ππ
Maryse: I AM CREEPED OUT!!!!! Chasing you?? AND NOW SHE HAS HIM? GAHHHHHH!
Nicole: I was too! I’m not sure how she got rid of him – she wouldn’t go into detail but she did say he needed comforting. Nowadays when I see her we have this silent sort of bond. Creepy.
Julie: I’m a night shift custodian in an older school. The place has ghosts for sure. Been there 14 years and have had many experiences. I have heard voices, been tapped on the shoulder, saw a “thing” in the offices, the copier turns on by itself, light switches turning on and off repeatedly. The list goes on. I think they are friendly and i talk to them regularly.
If things get a bit too weird sometimes, I ask them to stop and tell them they’re freaking me out and things will settle down a bit. Many nights are quiet but when they want to let me know they’re there, they do.
Maryse: I like that you talk to them. And it’s nice that they calm down when you ask them too. I love this story. β€οΈ
Serena: Childhood friend lived two streets from me – we stayed at each others houses on the weekends – we continually saw something white moving through the house at night like every night – we later found they were called the white lady – their house was built on a burial ground – their house built directly on where she was buried.
Maryse: OMG. Like Poltergeist all over again… Well. Without the crazy pulling her through the wall part. Still…. eeeep!!!
Kim:Β Iβve had nested bowls in my cupboard fallout and break. Just a single one. I also have this weird ability to know if someone is going to call or has died.
The day JFK jr died I woke up and told my husband someone important died. Turned on the news and bam! Also had that feeling when I shut the front door on 9/11.
Maryse: Oooooh a sixth sense!!! LOVE IT. My aunt for the longest time could always guess the sex of a baby that wasn’t born yet. She was ALWAYS right. She says she’s lost that “feeling” in the last few years.
Lindsay: My family and I used to go “ghost hunting”, just exploring “haunted” places.
One trip was to an old abandoned manor. Originally it had been used as an asylum; but a nasty storm took most of the building, so what was left was converted to a nursing home.
As we were exploring my chest started to get tight, it was difficult to breathe. I felt like an anvil was sitting on my chest. The pain was so immense, I thought I was having a heart attack. I immediately left the building and once I got 10 feet out the door I felt fine.
Turns out a nurse there back in the day was giving patients air embolisms leading to massive heart attacks.Β I never went back.
Maryse: OMG!!!!!! π³ π±
Shawn: I worked an overnight shift one time! Was facing a lady speaking with her when my eyes followed a silvery form that went behind her head. Thought my vision was tricking me but the silvery form went behind her.
The lady speaking with me said whatβs the matter when she saw my face. The lady said you just saw my mom! Lol Now I still think my vision was just acting up, but you wonder sometimes! lol
Maryse: I love how nonchalant she was about it. And kind of sweet that it’s her mom. Lots of comfort there, I bet. π
Julie: I was laying on my bed reading. No one else around and my music box started playing. It has to be wound up no buttons. It winds down. That was one of the last gifts Dad gave me. It played a long time.
Maryse: WOW!!! I love this story. Another “comfort” ghost story (even though a bit creepy). Those music goes always creeped me out a bit… but I love that it might have been your father. So sweet. β€οΈ
Leslie: It was 5am and I was in bed in the weird not awake but not asleep phase and I heard whispering in my ear and felt breathing. I assumed it was my boyfriend so I turned to face him but he was sound asleep turned away from me. I rolled back over assuming I was imagining it since I wasnβt fully awake.
Then, it happened again and I could very clearly hear the voice say βI know you can hear meβ needless to say I did not go back to sleep
Maryse: GASP!!!!!!! Ohh nooooo way would I have been able to sleep. Or breathe. *shivers* I have total goosebumps right now. This one is scary.
Sherry: Iβve been watching Paranormal Caught on Camera and Unexplained: Caught on Camera and theyβre both so creepy and good!! On Travel channel
Nikki: My 5 year old tried to feed the ghost at my parents’ house.
Ida: At about 18 months my oldest was possessed by my mil dead sister.
He started telling us about her death. Details he of course would not have known. He answered questions about the other people in the car if they were ok or not. He also talked about the head injury she had. He touched his head in that exact spot. He said he couldn’t see because the blood was in his eyes.
After a few minutes he looks at me and says “hey mom!” We were in her old room she grew up in. My husband, mil, and I were there for the whole thing.
Maryse: OHHHHH MY GOOOOODNESS!!!!
Maryse:
P.S. Here are a few fun PAST ghost posts (that I’ve collected over time) that have great scary book recommendations!
- 6 years ago, real life scary stories from our own readers and authors alike! Authors & readers tell us their own real-life creepy storiesβ¦
- Sofia Greyβs truly spooky coincidenceβ¦Β <β this one was from a week or so ago! A little Twilight Zone-y. π
- Ghost Romance Books & Love Stories β Falling in love with a ghostβ¦
- Scary & Horror Book Recommendations (some even have romance!)
Okay and I’m going to end this off with some super-short, super-scary (like 1 minute to 10 movies) on YouTube that have HUGE impact even though they are short. I’m watching more as we speak so if I find some good ones, I’ll add them below. π
- “Tuck Me In” <— only one minute but *ooooomph* what impact!
- “I Heard It Too” <— Not too bad. Pretty terrifying in the end, and the little girl is an incredible actress.
- “Lights Out” <— More terrifying to me than the actual movie and only 2 minutes long.
- “Bedfellows” <— only a couple of minutes long but absolutely TERRIFYING!!! I’ll never forget this one!
Maryse, remember THE HOUSE by Christina Lauren?? My Review:
THE HOUSE by Christina Lauren was on a recommendation list recently. So I looked it up and surprisingly enough, I had bought back in August 2017. But I had yet to read the book.
I started reading it that night. It should come with warnings: “Don’t read it at home while alone. Or at night. In the Dark. Or at all, if you scare easy!”
I figured I was safe with my husband right next to me. I got into the book, when I came to a part that was like you scream at the girl, “Don’t go down in the basement!” Or in this book, “Don’t go anywhere in that house or near that house!” Especially not alone! You know they never, ever listen.
The girl & I both survived. My husband was right next to me. But I was about 40% in & the next night my husband was out of town. Hubby had to go, leaving me home alone. That night when I returned to reading the book, I was going to be doing it alone.
I finished reading THE HOUSE late last night. This is a strange book. But I am one who needs their sleep. So if a book is so good that I stay up till I finish, than that is telling something! I would give it a 4.5* rating.
