Mony: I’m taking a break from angsty, intense, sometimes violent, reads – Mercy Thomson series, Gypsy King, Cinder and more. On to feel good books…
First up, Pool Man by Sabrina York – an amazing “palate cleanser” from all the angst. The reader is brought into the story right away…followed by a very hot guy, Caribbean setting, margaritas, steamy scenes & belly laughs. Good quality – not your usual mass fiction read. Highly recommend. (book as good as its cover) lol
Then I re-read Teardrop Shot by Tijan…I had said earlier that Reese was one of my top BBFs, Tasha mentioned she might to read it and well, needed to read about more good guys, and there we are. I think it was better the second time around. Not your usual sports romance…not overly done and the sassy girl is unique.
Finally, I’m reading a new series called Spotless (Spotless #1) by Camilla Monk (last book of series now released). It’s about a gentlemanly/hard ass professional killer and a nerdy IT woman…she finds him in her apartment ready to do “bad things” to her, and then things go from there. Edgy, lots of action, funny, travel, compelling characters, great dialogue… Highly recommend.

Shirley: I am listening to The New Husband by DJ Palmer. Never heard of this Author before but I am thoroughly enjoying this book! It is awesome and I don’t have a clue how its going to end. I have 2 hours left of listening. Highly recommend and the narration is great! (there are 2 narrators-the mother and teenage daughter and both are terrific!) Check it out!

Hello everyone! I could use some good positive energy. Maryse, didnt you say you were growing sage? Please burn some around me. I am actually going to plant my herb garden this weekend, but no sage. Lots of basil, parsley and rosemary. Just the smell of those fresh herbs makes me happy. Reading has been weird for me lately…I just haven’t been in mood. Not sure why. I’m currently reading My Favorite Souvenir by Ward/Keeland and it’s good but I have no desire to read anything so its taking me forever to finish.

My sage is not the “burning” kind (I don’t think) but I will send you good energy and vibes and love. I too, am struggling with the bombardment of this absolutely crazy year right now (so much going on and so many hurting), and you’d think reading would be the perfect escape… but it’s like I can’t concentrate.
Gardening is what helps ease me. I don’t know if it’s the hands-on-work and exertion and being outside in the sun (or even in the rain – I love gardening when it’s rainy out). Even plugging my grass plugs was soothing.
I read somewhere that there’s a positive energy with digging your bare hands into soil… and into the earth. I’ll take it. It helps.

What kind of grass do you have Maryse?
I “had” Zoysia grass but over the 5 years I’ve been here it’s gone from luxurious to spotty-thin and weed ridden even though I have always had a lawn care company take care of it for years.
But this is Florida and supposedly lawn doesn’t last more than 5 years here? So then I have three huge patches of St. Augustine that is growing and taking over (all by itself – some say it was probably the old lawn from years ago coming back up and some are saying it’s probably from the lawn mowing company being spread around).
So all that to say, I’m plugging in St. Augustine ’cause it’s pretty magnificent!
And I like that endorphins from soil idea… makes total sense. It’s part of who we once were… and still are.

I have been saying that so much lately. A really good friend who is a nurse, has been in the hospital for a month with Covid, which he got at work. He has been on a ventilator for most of that time. The really sad part is his nursing job was a new one, so he didn’t have any health benefits yet and they are not offering any compensation. Here’s a link to his GoFundMe page. I love my herb garden. I have sage (it has pretty purple flowers), a rosemary bush, oregano, lemon thyme, chives, mint, parsley. And I have a little bay tree for fresh bay leaves. It’s the best thing to be able to pop outside and pick fresh goodies when you’re cooking. Buying herbs is so expensive too.
In summer we grow lots of basil. It makes the best pesto with lots of garlic. Freshly picked basil smells so good. I hope your herbs grow well, Leslie.

Teardrop Shot! Thanks for reminding me. ☺️ Also, Entangled sounds good to me. I just picked my Book of the Month for this month and chose Riley Sager’s Home Before Dark!! Eeep, I was so excited to see that as a choice as that was one of my most anticipated releases. And then, bonus, cuz I’d never heard of it, but now am excited to read it, snagged The Last Flight by Julie Clark. Sounds good!
At this point I am a book collector for my own personal library, and that’s ok. Cuz I’m optimistic I’ll get there, one day. At least, at the moment that’s ok. On any given day I get really down and frustrated about it.
I’m back! And my dogs are OK! And my folks, I got crap about that. Lol. We had fun on our mini trip, hiked some trails, dipped our feet in a beautiful creek, hung out in the hot tub, freaked out over bugs, ate tons of s’mores, told some scary stories, walked a butterfly trail, rode horseback, mined gemstones, and chased the baby too much. Oh, and they fished the pond AND I grilled. I’m not a big griller, but I didn’t do too shabby. We got carry out once (pizza) and ate out once for breakfast, got some froyo, and found a coffee shop ❤️. A ton of stuff was closed at this usual touristy spot, but we found enough hidden gems to satisfy and it wasn’t bad at all.
It was so needed to get away from the day to day.
Your getaway honestly sounds like happiness and heaven. I loved reading the sweet tidbits of it all… butterfly trail, and fishing and gemstones?? I WANNA MINE GEMSTONES!!
I love that you’re back and everything is fine and you made memories.
And no matter what… if we collect books for future reading, or devour them now, WE, my friends, are forever READERS. It’s innate in us.
Like for me, I’m not reading as hard due to focus issues, but I’m still hooked on books. I’m making booklists, and favorites lists, and release lists, and looking for books for reader questions, and reorganizing my own TBR list because I’m collecting as I go.
I read like a fiend as a child, I read like a fiend as a teen… I took a break in young adulthood, read light-regular throughout (that’s where all my biographies come in), and then I went right back to devour mode. WE ARE BOOK LOVERS no matter what form we love our books in.
That was perfectly put, Maryse. I’ll keep this in the back of my mind when it gets me down again!
Also, it wasn’t all happiness and heaven. Those kids of mine. *raises fists* There was crying, bickering, whining and complaining, epic toddler tantrums. My 2 year old is just like his brother 😭 and it was so hard the first time. But, we made it work and had fun too. Now I’m ready for a break. Just need to ship off 1 of them. *cough* J. 👀
