And while I live this way naturally (my dad was a stickler for tidiness and letting “things” go and not accumulate), I still love to just… read her way of living this and her philosophy. It feels good. It’s the OCD in me… I want to absorb it even more. LOL!!

- Alone on Earth (Signal Bend Series Book 4) by Susan Fanetti <— HOLLYWOOD STAR & THE BIKER/MAFIA ALERT!! Jan recommends this one!
Jan: Alone on Earth is a good one. Lonely young Hollywood starlet falls for a biker while making a movie about his MC club. Or if you’re not in a mood for bikers, what about Deep? Yeah it’s a mafia family book, but it’s not really about the mafia life. She just knows he’ll make a terrific watch dog-and with an abusive ex who won’t let go, she needs all the protection she can get. Robyn: I just finished P. Dangelico’s Bulldozer, book 3 in her Hard To Love series. I also have read the first 2 books Wrecking Ball and Sledgehammer. These books are so good and funny. They hit all of the feels. I have decided that this author is a cross between Marina Zapata, Lani Lynn Vale and N A Alcorn. Broody H meets quirky h, they have altercations with lots of funny humor and angsty moments and eventually fall in love against all odds. perfect! You have to read these books!
- An Ex for Christmas: A Love Unexpectedly Novel by Lauren Layne <— CHRISTMAS ROMANCE ALERT! & KIM COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN!! “…When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. - Roxy’s Warriors (Bondmates Book 4) by Ann Mayburn <— Kathy loved this one!

- Irish Crown by Nashoda Rose <— IF YOU LIKED MYSTERY MAN BY KA…. <— Stacie recommends it!!
Stacie: Hey just wanted to say I highly recommend Iris Crown by Nashoda Rose!! All her books that I have read so far have been 5 stars and this one is no different!! Good Morning and Happy Friday 🙂
I am all over Irresistible Force….that has my name all over it. *click*
*Friday glitter bomb*
Good morning all! Can you believe it’s almost time to make our best of 2018 lists?? I’m going to start working on that. 🙂
Also need to get cracking on Christmas decoration. I’m late this year.
YAYAYYYY!!!! I can’t wait to see all the “best of” lists!!! Email them to me whenever you guys are ready. I will post each one. 😀
Dumplin soundtrack was just released. Dolly of course. You all need to read the book.
I should read Puddin.
Morning! Last day to sign up for the challenge threads too… Tomorrow will be the picking day!
Bev, I’ve got Dumplin’ on my short list to read in December!
Grey…yay for the picking day!!
Leslie, if it makes you feel any better…I’m really far behind on decorating myself this year too!! I’m usually completely done the weekend after Thanksgiving but I’ve barely started this year. I have so much to get done this weekend…just not feeling it. I have a gingerbread house decorating party tonight (my one super crafty friend who LOVES Christmas hosts it every year) so I’m hoping I’ll leave that feeling more festive!
Just finished Buried by Brenda Rothert. It was about 5 people trapped in an underground bunker but the storyline is different than what you might think. Don’t want to say to much and ruin it but it was an easy read and I finished it in one day. I would give it 4 stars. Next up is Tragic by Devney Perry. So excited to finally read this one. I have read all of her books.
Happy Friday!
The vet called a bit ago and said Cali made it through the night and the transfusion appears to have been a success! Her blood count is up to just the perfect level he wanted. Her color is better and she has some energy. We get to go pick her up at 4pm today!
I’ve got my tree up and decorated and am doing the rest this weekend.
TraciB, from last post, I think next is going to be Joey’s story. 🙂
I finished Keeping Binding (I am SOOO tired.) It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I was highlighting so many parts. You’d get angst, then get smacked with humor, then more angst and worst. Just everything I look for in a book. If you read it and don’t adore most of the characters… how?
A small taste of the humor:
“Fine,” she deadpanned.
“No, no, no,” Gibsie growled, frustrated. “Don’t say fine. That’s a dangerous word when it comes out of your mouth.”
“I said it’s fine, Gerard,” Claire said flatly. “Pick the film. I don’t care.”
“You’re lying,” he accused. “It’s not fine and you’re going to make me suffer.”
“Do what you want, Gerard.”
“Stop mind-f***ing me!”
“Fine.”
“Don’t say that.”
“Fine.”
“Fine!” He threw his hands up in the air. “F***ing fine. You win.”
And speaking of best of list… NOV is almost over. Favorite read of Nov time!
Mine is EASILY Binding 13 and Keeping 13. 🙂 I know what I’m reading today and I’ll enjoy it, but not like I did those two.
Omg yes with the humor! There’s a convo I wanted to share too, if I can find it I will. I love Joey. And Gibsie.
Boo. I can’t find the part I tried to save. There used to be a feature where I could highlight what I wanted and upload it straight to my notes and it would automatically add the cover and author and it won’t let me do it anymore. Maybe I need to update something. I just got to the part where Gibsie shows his special embellishment to his- ya know. 😉
Also, I love Johnny’s Mam.
Oh Nay I am so glad she is on the mend and you get to bring her home today.
Is it me are books getting shorter? Just dowloaded Rachel Robinson book last night – under 300 pages.
Wow Tessa-you must not have slept at all to have finished all ready. I can not wait to read these two books!
Tasha, I agree! Mammy K is so awesome.
I noticed with my notes, they go to GR to option to post them after I say I’m done reading it. Maybe it will let you after. And OMG, that part was hilarious!
Jenn… kinda. lol I’m a fast reading but 932 pages does take a while. It sure didn’t feel like it. Right now I’m sad the book is over because I want to read more.
🙂 As Theresa is commenting on shorter books…
Fave read for November-I just looked at the books I read in November and I read some awesome ones but to choose one I have to go with Heartbreak Warfare as I am still thinking about this story and it’s been a almost a month since I finished.
My fave for Nov is Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating followed closely by The Simple Wild.
I’m going with End of Day by Jewel E. Ann for my November
Am I the only one who has not been to Africa-I guess I may need to go alone 🙁 I really want to get this one in before end of year.
I have never been to Africa- what book are you talking about Jenn?
The Simple Wild by K.A Tucker everyone refers to it as “Africa”
That one’s Alaska, Jenn!
I’m a little over halfway through The Wish Collector and it is so good! Mystery, intrigue, romance and KU!! You can never go wrong with a Mia Sheridan book!
Orrrrrrr…Jenn COULD go to Africa with Mists Of the Serengeti. 😉
I have a few more pages of Marlena (such a somber but good book) and then I’m rejoining Johnny and Shannon like the river! 😀
Since Tessa shared that but if hilarity, I have to share the part which made me literally snort out loud from Binding 13. A little background, he calls her “Shannon like the river” because that’s how she introduced herself, and at this part he is freaking HIGH on painkillers:
“Not too much longer to wait.” I sighed. “Thank f*ck, ’cause I’m in love.”
“You’re in love?”
I nodded happily. “And she’s a river.”
“Well that’s… lovely, pet,” Mam coaxed, sounding confused. “Good boy.”
“I’m gonna sail my boat down her river,” I snickered. “My dick boat.”
“Can they knock him back out?” Ma grumbled. “He’s going to give me a stroke with all this talk.”
“It’s okay, Ma,” I coaxed. “I’m gonna keep her, too. Make all my babies with her because my balls work–and Da says I can pull on my dick again. Woo!”
“John!” Mam gasped. “What have you been telling our son?”
Dad laughed. “He’s seventeen, Edel. It’s the first thing he’s going to ask about after a surgery like that.”
“Oh, dear Jesus,” Mam groaned.
LOL!!!!!
LOL Amy-that is freaking awesome love it. And as far as Mists of the Serengeti that is another one I want to read before end of year
Jenn, BOTH of those books are amazing! Mists is in my top ten of all time! But Simple Wild will make my top ten of the year for sure.
R, Josh and Hazel were fun. I was a bit worried she’d get on my nerves, but the writers made her lovable and unique. I was surprised in the beginning in that I was not expecting him to be her best friend’s Oppa.
Yay, Nay!
I lost mine a couple weeks ago. It’s really hard losing a pet.
Who is calling Alaska Africa?
Amy, that part was awesome. I love it. There was just so much humor intermixed with the angst. 🙂 I need the next book now. (Shannon and Johnny’s story is done, but I want one of the secondary character’s story now!)
FYI, still feel stupid for not reading it as soon as it was mentioned.
Oh Bev. I’m so sorry….it is so hard to lose a pet.
Jenn, you really DO want to read Mists!!! So good….one of my all-time faves!! Maybe someone will toss it your way with the challenge reads coming up. That said, I also liked The Simple Wild a lot too! So many good ones…so little time.
I’m at about 90% with The Wish Collector by Mia Sheridan…I really do like it…it’s just been a very slow reading week for me. I’m also still listening to The Passage (because now that I know it’s going to be a TV show, I need to read/listen to it first). It’s a good narration….just very lengthy with tons of detail. There’s a lot to keep up with…I still like it…I’m just saying.
lol see I’m so confused Africa/Alaska-thank you Bev I meant Alaska
Michele I do have both of them listed for the pick-for-me challenge YAY but I am also a little scared because I added one on there I’ve had forever and have never been brave enough to read it so I figured if someone picks it for me I will just have to pull up my big girl pants and suck it up!
Just saw on Devney Perry’s page that all 5 books in the Jamison Valley Series are free on KU for a limited time. Her books remind me of Kristen Ashley. Love this series.
Oh bev…I’m so sorry, my friend. Losing a pet is just awful. 🙁
bev so sorry to hear you lost your pet. But good news about Nay’s darling doggie, anyways.
At last My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan is available on kindle Australia – as of today. It’s Dec 1st here – first day of summer woo hoo!! But I’m not starting MOY till I’ve finished a couple of others I’m reading LOL. I’m loving Keeping 13 but it is long and I just can’t rush through it.
Best reads of Nov for me: My Beautiful Enemy by Sherry Thomas. This is an interesting and original HR that takes place partly in Victorian England and party in Asia. There is some wuxia-style martial arts, a very evil baddie, and a beautiful, intense, slightly tragic love story. Has a HEA though. Whew! It’s a bit YA-ish, but a lovely read, and not your usual HR.
My other fav Nov read wasn’t a romance at all, but I’ll mention it here anyways cos there might be some other fans out there too. It was the latest addition to the long-running Harry Bosch series of police procedurals set in LA. Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly. I’ve been following this series for years. Connelly is a consistently good writer, with great characters and tight plotting. You know each book will be a great read. There’s an amazon prime series of the books too that I like. Titus Welliver plays a great Harry Bosch, although he looks nothing like the Harry in the books LOL.
My favorite November read: Kingdom of Ash… which, came out end of October, but I didn’t start until two days ago! Gasp! I’m savoring every page, since it’s the last in the series. Sigh….
Rowan, Aedion, Chaol… what will I do now? Hopefully, Sarah J Maas will create a new world with kicka$$ characters, including the FAE, soon!
Bev – so so sorry to hear about losing your pet. Was it a dog, or cat? Mine are like kids to me. I have three little dogs. Big hug! (It’s a virtual hug, so just accept it).
so sorry bev-*hugs*
Oooh, she hugged Bev!
Sorry about your pet, Bev. It’s never easy. *pats shoulder*
Thank you, I appreciate it.
MicelleS she was my dog. The last of my three actually.
Happier news half way through a holiday novella and then back to Scotland.
OMG bev I’m so devastated. I try never to let my head go there when it comes to my dogs (one day… ugh) because I will break.
I’m so sorry my friend. One of the worst heartaches.
Well, I had typed something up yesterday before we went to pick up Cali and apparently, I didn’t hit submit.
I’m SO sorry to hear that, bev! It is SO hard to lose a pet. Every time it happens, I say I’ll never get another one, and here we are. Eight years ago, we had just lost our other two dogs only a few months apart, and hubs and I were at a yard sale and jokingly asked if we could buy their Jack Russell and they said we could have her! The young girl had just had a baby and they weren’t comfortable with a dog in the house (for some reason), and she’s been the best dog.
She’s feeling SO much better! She’s wagging her tail, her ears are pink again, and she has some pep in her step, so hopefully, this is going to work.
Jenn–Mists is also one of my all-time faves. That is a priority!!!
My favorite November read was Cold Cole Heart by K. Webster.
OMG Nay that warms my heart. My girls LOVE affection and attention and GIVING it in return by the love-loads!!! I’m so glad that poor sweet angel found a loving home. I could never give away my girls. They’re my family and my best friends. We’re a pack.
And yours found hers. <3
Oh Nay I am so happy she found you and your husband, I have a hard time with people just giving up on their pets and or abandoning them but in this case she is where she was meant to be. 🙂 I am so glad she is better. I can not imagine my life without my two baby girls; no one in this world will love you like they do. It is so unconditional and without judgement! My favorite part of my day every day is when I get home from work, no matter the shit mood I maybe in it is immediately erased with sloppy kisses and hugs. My Mia hugs me; I kneel on the floor and she puts her two front paws on my shoulders and it just melts my heart.
As far as Mists go it is another one I will try to fit in before end of year. And oh yes Cold Cole Heart was awesome!
That is the sweetest, cutest story Nay…you go to a yard sale and leave with a new family member. *giggle*
See, I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. We should be getting a baby cockatoo next year (we were supposed to this year but none of the eggs hatched :(), and the baby will probably outlive US. We are actually going to need to designate in our wills who he or she will go to when we pass.
And I would absolutely LOVE to get a rescue bird but they usually need a lot of time invested in them to heal from their circumstances, and between work and most likely going back to school, I won’t be able to do that.
It took me a bit to really invest in my read but I’m there. A bit on the chick lit side, the structure, but I like it. It’s taking it’s time building the relationships. Also making me hungry with all the talk of hearty farm foods, lol.
It’s The Cafe By The Sea.
Amy will you hand raise it?
Nay, I love that story. She was meant to be yours.
I’m terrified of birds. They annoy me in a cage, let them out and I’m on the ground shrieking and finding cover.
I live in a rural town in Australia and we have flocks of wild sulphur-crested cockatoos living in our area. They often fly overhead and sometimes perch on a big tree in our yard or on our TV antenna. They have a VERY LOUD cry! We have befriended one who looks a bit old and bedraggled. He often visits and sits on the back of a chair outside out window. He looks in at us with one little eye and gives a little squawk to say he’s there. So we go out and put some sunflower seeds out for him. He does that about once a day. We call him Bill. 😀 Kind of a pet but still wild.
I love wild pets. Those that come and go as they want but always come back. I love that story Jan. <3 Bill is lucky to have safety with you.
Nay, I must have missed what happened to your Cali, although I’m glad she’s on the mend.
Bev, sorry to hear about your doggie. We’ve buried quite a few different pets in our backyard. Hope the next owners don’t do any major yard renovations.
Amy, that snippit almost makes me want to read Binding 13. Almost. Maybe when I get Amazon gift card, although I don’t really like YA books.
Finished Mercy last night. Liked it a lot. Haven’t read any today because we have been working on the outside christmas lights and decorations. Now going to do new red plaid bows for the window wreaths. Think hubs and I will catch up on Outlander while making the bows and drinking Baileys. 😉
So I finished my book and decided to go right into the sequel, which delightfully is Christmas themed. As I’m reading I’m noticing little inconsistencies. Then finally realized I’m reading the third not the second book. Oh well. I’m going to carry on. The first is in no way a CH so it’s more of a continuation.
YAY!!! bev found a mojo book!!!!! 😀
Cheryl–she’s severely anemic. It came out of nowhere and over just a few days, her health went downhill so quickly. So she spent the night at the vet to get a blood transfusion and came home yesterday. She’s feeling better but will be on meds for the rest of her life.
I should add to the story of how we got Cali–the young girl did NOT want to get rid of her. She loved her SO much. She was only 19, had just had a baby, and was living with her parents, and it may have been her parents who didn’t want a dog in the house with a baby–I can’t remember.
We have people around here (in the South) who’ll get rid of their cats when they have a baby because there’s a superstition that a cat in the house with a baby will ‘take their breath away’ (meaning: the cat will lie on the baby’s face and suffocate it), so maybe it was something like that. I know that sounds antiquated and ignorant, but when we had our first son, hubs’s aunt was adamant that we get rid of the cat we had at the time. All we ever heard was that he was going to take the baby’s breath away.
But anyway, the girl called us several times over the next year to check up on Cali and make sure she was doing well. She said she was thrilled she found a good home.
bev…when it hatches, the breeders will keep the baby to hand feed it for the first two to three months, and will we go to visit and bond as often as we can. Once the baby is old enough to eat food on its own, we get to bring him or her home with us. 😀
Tasha…maybe this will help change your mind ;):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cj9dAqDztjc
OMG Jan!!! Having a bunch of cockatoos flying around sounds freaking AWESOME!! It must be so crazy for you to think of us over here paying up to $3000 for a bird which flies wild around your home. And I love that you are taking care of that sweet old guy. Seriously, that makes my heart swell. ❤️
Cheryl…Binding 13 and Keeping 13 (still working on that one) really are great books. They are the type of YA books where the characters often act their age and are immature, but the writing itself isn’t immature. And due to the heavy, serious nature of what’s going on, they sometimes act and talk older than their age. The books are loooooooong and require a commitment, but I have never once felt like they are dragging. Yeah, obviously I’m a cheerleader for them. 😉
And how sweet! You and hubs making Christmas bows and watching a show together. *sigh*
I have crows here. LOTS of crows. This is their nesting area in the spring. There are a ton of trees around here, especially pine trees. So they roost up in the high trees with their babies and come out in the afternoon to eat. I love them, but they know I have cats. Cats that have given me multiple “offerings” before. So they don’t like me.
Amy, YAY. I still am kicking myself for not reading Binding 13 right away. I agree on the assessment of the book itself. It’s in no way actually a YA, other than the main characters are teen. And it NEVER dragged. 🙂
Lol, no Amy not for me. I’ve had birds, a lovebird, my Mom had a Quaker parrot (the dog ate them, long story), and she’s now had a sun conure that I purchased her like 12 years ago or so now. She hand fed her from a baby. It’s the most annoying thing on Earth and I’m not the only one who thinks so. It squaks every time I talk, it knows when ppl pull in the driveway, when leaving, when the clock sounds, etc. and used to be out more w/ my Mom (not me), but the dogs. I even fed the lorikeets at the zoo (terrified pics for proof). So, I’ve seen the cuddling, the feeding and bathing, Ive held them, but I don’t like it. And I won’t do it anymore. Our last visit to the zoo I blindingly walked through a habitat where they were free, realized what was happening and took off running and screaming in the other direction. I don’t know what it is honestly.
We have crows too! They have a big nest made of sticks high up in our big gum tree and have nested there for the last 2 years. I think it’s hilarious that we have a ‘literal’ crow’s nest in our back yard. It always makes me think of pirates. Aarrgh me hearties! We have cats too, but the crows are smart enough to stay out of their reach.
I’m still reading Keeping 13 (it’s massive!). Good to see all the love for these books.
I just spit out my drink picturing Tasha running through the zoo like a crazy person! 🙂
LOL Tasha!! I would have loved to see that. And yes, Sun conures are LOUD. My mom had one who had to be put down not long ago after he suffered a stroke. 😥 He was 31, and his mate of 30 years (a sweet green-cheeked conure) had just died a few months earlier. Animals. Do. Grieve.
CROWS!!!! I’m so jealous, Tessa and Jan! I want that many crows at my house. That is the one thing I miss about our old house, all the crows who used to wait outside in the morning for me to feed them.
I love my state but I swear you walk down the chip aisle and your going to get a contact high.
Maybe that’s why I bought cheese puffs?
Agreed Tessa…I never should have waited to read B13. I am thoroughly and completely wrapped up in Keeping 13 right now. I keep making the mistake of picking it up when I’m supposed to be doing other things, and next thing I know an hour has passed. LOVE these books.
bev, right?? Ever since it was legalized here, it seems to be EVERYwhere. I even saw a couple of elderly ladies sharing a joint while they were flying down the freeway a couple of days ago. I’m serious. The car was full of smoke, and YES one of them was driving! *snicker* Who am I kidding, that will be me someday. 😛
Amy, it seemed like a good idea. The one bow hubby made was kinda sad. I think the Baileys may have had something to do with that. 🙂
Maybe Now audio is available on Hoopla! Think I need to skim Maybe Someday first.
I used to laugh with my friends we would be the golden girls.
ROFL Bev, you said it perfectly. I swear, if it were legal to smoke anywhere, it’d be that smell everywhere. Though, it has made the police in my town toughen up about smoking in the park. Before, they didn’t care.
Best crow to date was the one who figured out how to imitate animal sounds. All morning long, woodpecker sounds. BUT! When he saw a cat, he’d start making barking sounds. lol, My Toby would run so fast the other way. Sadly, I think he got old when he was away for the winter. I haven’t seen him in two years. 🙁
What’s a good gift to get someone that you’re not sure what to actually get? Like a neutral gift. Lol
My giftee is a reader, a great cook, and a homebody to the extreme. And I have no idea where to start looking.
Tessa, I was literally just thinking of you, lol. I’m about to start a drama, Memories of the Alhambra, it’s on Netflix. Not exactly sure what it’s about but it has 2 actors I like and a lot of hype……in drama circles.
Anyway, I just saw people excited cause it looks like it will be about gaming or VR. So long story to say when I see things about gaming I know think of you, lol.
Tasha…a cook book? Maya Angelou has one that has some personal Memories. I haven’t tried any recipes but The New Midwestern Table looks nice.
Awwww! 🙂
Tasha, Gift Certificates are good. If not that, Do you know her favorite books? If so, Etsy has some really cute things of the most popular books available. I am no help when it comes to food. *nods*
Though, while looking, I found engraved rolling pins. Where was that when I was in ceramics? I’m tempted by them for ceramics. That’s just cool.
Oh, I love these ideas! The cookbook…she would love something like that, I think. I want to find something like the Maya Angelou one, that has a good back story on an amazing woman, but also good food. Briefly looking, it doesn’t have great reviews for the food. But, The New Midwestern Table sounds like the kind of food she’d like to make too.
