Well, this just makes me wanna *squeeeee* so loud!!! I’m gonna. Right now. Here at work (yes I’m bein’ bad by posting an update while at work, but this is just too exciting for me). *squeeeeeeeeeee*
And y’all know I LOVVVVED the Fever Series with all of my might! I actually read these back when I had to use both of my HANDS to read! You know, hold a book, clip on the booklight, flip pages, earmark (for shame! I know… yes I did that shhhhh), but these books were SO worth the hand cramps.
And I mean, oh sure… she teased us for the first part of the series, lots of sexual tension, potential romantic angst (hrmmm… if you can call Barrons that 😉 *smirk* ), and that tease was SO good. But you knew while reading it, that this was not a YA series (even if it was relatively “tame” at first). In fact it was probably all that teasing (giving me those “reader needs”) that made it even that much more exciting to read. You know me… don’t “give it to me” right away. Make me work for it! Just as long as there is that potential and you give me “something fun 😉 ” to work with (and work for), I AM SO IN!!!
And I was thrilled to hear that Karen Marie Moning was writing a spinoff for some of the secondary characters in the main series. But when I found out “Dani” was going to be the first one (she’s just a teen), well. *hrmph* I’ll admit, I was a bit… down. And many fellow readers were a bit concerned about the YA possibility in this part of the Fever series.
I was going to read it anyway. *shrug* OF course!! Because of the world I’d be finally going back to, and the characters and the progression of the Fever story and the fact that the author intends to re-visit the main characters further down the line, yeah… I wasn’t going to miss out on that. There was NO way I was going to pass this up. But there’s good news (at least, for me!). Karen says:
“One final clarification: ICED, BURNED and FLAYED are NOT teen fiction, by any stretch of the imagination. To those of you who keep emailing me about the sex issue, trust me to walk the fine line I set for myself well. I relished the challenge of showing you the FEVER world from a different–and yes, controversial but if you want safe and PC don’t read me–vantage point while maintaining everything that is quintessentially FEVER. Keep the faith.”
Finding out that this part of the series will be “skirting” the line and might not be so politically correct… well. I. Am. Titillated! I love not knowing what I’m about to get into. I love when authors blur the lines a bit, ya know? Purposely freaks the reader out! I loved to be freaked out!! Mind you, I have my limits, of course, but I DO trust this author to give us what we want, make us antsy and want more, and still do what she needs to do with it.
YAY US!!! Iced will be released October 30th 2012!!
So here is the full “scoop” as to what Karen said on her Facebook page about Iced and the upcoming Fever books!
ICED is the sixth book in the Fever series. The only difference is ICED is narrated by Dani, interspersed with various other first-person points of view. (One of those first person points of view is Christian MacKeltar.)
ICED opens up one week before Shadowfever ends, at the sidhe-seer’s abbey, the morning after the Cruce got imprisoned beneath it. You don’t miss a beat in the action I developed in the prior books. Some of the characters you will see: Dani, Dancer, Ryodan, Christian, Lor, Jo, Kat, Cruce, Velvet, a glimpse or two of Mac & Barrons, and many others.BURNED and FLAYED are books 7 & 8 in the Fever series. Again, told from Dani’s viewpoint, plus others. Books 9 & 10 will return to Mac’s point of view. Mostly. If you don’t read 6, 7 & 8, books 9 and 10 won’t make any sense. Here are a few of the main questions I keep getting asked.
Q: How old is Dani in this series?
A: 14 when it starts. 17 when it ends.Q: Ew. Teens can’t have sex!
A: Right. What world are you living in?Q: Does she have sex at 14?
A: No.Q: Is there sex in this trilogy?
A: Have you forgotten whose writing it?Q: Is Dani’s voice the same as it was in the Fever books?
A: No. In the Fever books Dani was 5% of the story, so I made her voice colorful enough to stand out in an epic world. In ICED, her story is epic, so her voice is more natural, more her own.Q: When Dani does lose her virginity will it be with one of the males in ICED?
A: Yes.Q: Do these books end on cliffhangers?
A: No. ICED gives a solid feel-good wrap.Q: Do you love Dani’s story as much as Mac’s?
A: Absolutely, and I was astonished by that. I thought it was going to be much harder to leave Mac and Barrons than it was. I realized I hadn’t left them at all. I’d merely detoured down a different dark street in Dublin. Still looking up at the Old World façade of BB&B at night, with all the lights on, still seeing Barrons ‘(Bugatti in ICED) glide down the street, still watching Mac’s toss her hair across Chester’s dance floor. Just watching it through different eyes.
I’m so excited! I mean, obviously, I would love for it to still be Mac and Barrons, but because it’s a new perspective we get new angst all over again and I hope it’s hot!
Ditto Dusty!!! I mean, I don’t see how… considering Dani is 14 and will be 17 by the end, but I trust Karen Marie Moning to take us on quite a trip! And if she says “controversial” well, then who am I to say different? 😉
I’m just going to see 24 everytime I read 14. =) Problem solved.
I have been SOOO looking forward to this book! I can barely wait until the end of October….. ;o)
Hey yah!! I’ll try that too!
I have to admit… I SQUEEED in absolute delight!!! I checked out her FB page, and was surprised to find that there is some controversy with the teen sex topic…but the book has not even been released yet!!! Love KMM’s writing and the Fever world. I trust that she will stay true to her vision. Can’t wait to read all the new books. I’ll be rereading the first 5 in the meantime…
I am so freaking excited. When I saw the post on FB saying that Dani was only going to be 14 when the book started I was a little put off. But after remembering how long it took Mac and Barrons to seal the deal I guess we won’t expect too much in Iced at first!!
I saw this on her FB page and was so excited as well! BTW, have you had any luck finding any books that are similar to fever?? I found Shadow Reader and Charlie Madigan but that’s about it :(. She has set the standard so high that it is hard to find books that even come close! UGH!!!!! LOL
“Right. What world are you living in?” hahahaha so true.
But I’m not gonna lie, I would feel better if she was older than this. If 17 is still young, let alone 14.
But I’ll just go with it.
I can’t flipping wait. The Fever Series is in my top three book series. Everyone I’ve recommended them to, love them as much as I do. YEA!!
5 more books to come in the Fever world : is it christmas already !!! While reading your post, I was nodding, saying to myself : yeah, just the same fo me. The Fever serie is the best and I totally trust KMM with Iced. Thanks for sharing.
YAY!!!!!!! Thank you for this new!!! I loved the Fever series and I’m sure this will just be a new twist to it.
Karen Marie Moning is coming to Sarasota Florida for a book signing!!! That is THREE whole hours away from me…..arghghghghhg…I always lament I can’t make it to New Orleans for those awesome parties she throws so what do I want??? I guess I want her to come to the bookstore down the street 😉 I have to go to this!
I am so glad I came across your blog because no one else that I know has read these books! Can you believe it?? I looooooved Barons and Karen really did a great job with the teasing us – talk about sexual tension! So looking forward to these next books! Do you like the True Blood books?
