I’m almost done Karina Halle’s latest *surprise* release (The Pact) and I’m enjoying it and can’t wait to finish. I hear there’s a moment of tear-your-heart-out angst and I can’t wait to get to that part!! For anyone that missed that release, I re-posted it below with a a few reader comments in the contemporary romance category.
Now… there ARE some other yummy looking ones on here that are tempting me badly! Like Love Always, Kate (I have a feeling this will be a sob-fest for me!), DEBT (I need to jump back in, ’cause quite a few here are loving it, and well… the darkness factor kind of scared me, but I’m gonna give it another go), and Mugs of Love (’cause he’s been staring at her from across the street for awhile now and loves her even though they haven’t met… WOW!!!) and Now You See Me (she’s recluse and he’s a criminal on the run), Wait for Me (She’s been in love with him and when they finally get together, he enlists, and when he comes back.. he’s engaged to someone else. OUCH!), Hundred To One (ex-con working for a woman rebuilding her life. in her diner, and she’s being harassed… and he wants to protect her). Yep. So many on here that are making me excited and I noted a bunch more below.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
BARGAINS & READER RECOMMENDATIONS (NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order).
- Love Always, Kate (Love Always Series Book 1) by D.Nichole King <— sounds heartbreaking! It was brought to my attention because book # 1.5 was just released (see it below) and I had to know more!!! So here is #1, and it is what I consider “bargain priced” and couldn’t help but point it out. She’s dying… thinking of letting go completely (no more fighting it) and… “I think I know what I want. Then, in walks Damian, changing everything. I mean, everything… He’s got his own set of issues. It binds us together, you know? We understand what it’s like to lose what matters most in seconds. Still, the last thing I need is to have someone else to crush if I can’t fight hard enough. And the last thing he needs is someone else to grieve.“
- Last of the Bad Boys by Nora Flite <— Aimee found us this super-bargain!The blurb made me blush! Tee hee!! Here’s a “cleaner” portion of it…”When my phone rang, I didn’t expect her pretty voice to beg me for help. She thought I’d save her and that’d be it. Well. Too bad. I’m hooked on this girl—I want her more than water or air. I wasn’t her first. But I planned to be her last.”
- DEBT by Nina Jones <— Jessica HIGHLY recommends this one. AND I MEAN HIGHLY!!! I started it a week or so ago, and it made my eyes BUG out!!! Eeeeeeep! Darkness. But good, just was a bit dark for me at that time… however:
Jessica: So I have been in a total book slump for months… months!!! Sure I have read MANY books written by extremely talented authors and I have finished them satisfied with the story telling… but once I was finished that was it… not a second thought. Until last night… last night I read one of ‘those’ stories… you know the ones where you finish and your head is a twisted mess… because… because I should HATE him… he is not innocent… he did very bad things… very, very bad things… he was vulgar, rude, crude, criminal, selfish, controlling, infuriating, vengeful, twisted, calculating, DARK… and yet I can’t stop thinking about him… obsessing…dreaming… swooning…this is a problem! DEBT by Nina Jones.
Marsha: Ooohhhh…I am intrigued!
Maryse: YAY!!! I started this one… it was a bit er… EXTRA dark for my mood that week, but maybe I should jump back in.
- Mugs of Love by Norma Jeanne Karlsson <— Amanda recommends this one! “Just finished this one and it so freaking good! One of my favorite writers ever!” Yep! That blurb has me!!! “Every day across the street from his furniture store, Garrett steals moments full of warmth from Emily Garner. As she floats happily through her coffee shop, Emily provides him glimpses into her soul. She’s pure and full of life in a way Garrett’s never experienced. He’s never heard her voice and doesn’t know the color of her eyes. But he knows she lights up like a beacon when she serves coffee to couples on their first dates. Emily can feel the tingles of new love even when she’s not the one experiencing the thrill. And Garrett can feel Emily’s joy from across the street…“
- Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven <— Back on the list because Courtney loves it!! And I hear this was a fanfic, once! She says: “Just finished this book and it was crazy good. Sexy, full of angst and a brooding bad boy. This is one of the best one’s I have read all year and that is saying something considering we only have a few days left This is a definite must read!”
- Hate to Love You by Elise Alden <— Stephanie found us this super-bargain! She asks: “Have you read this book? The blurb makes me go Eeek” Why YES!! Yes I have read it, Stephanie and it’s goooood!!!!! Here’s my review.
- Broken Dolls by Kitty Thomas <— And Janet enjoyed this recently released dark read from one of my FAV dark-read authors: “Broken Dolls was really good. Kind of quick read and stand alone.”
- Free Me (The Found Duet Book 1) by Laurelin Paige <— And here’s Marsha’s recommendation: “Last week I recommended the Fixed Trilogy by Laurelin Paige (which was Awesome!!)….well she also has a spinoff of that series with “Free Me”….oh my word I am over half way through and it is AMAZING!! A definite must read!”
- Forever His Baby by Morgana Phoenix & Airicka Phoenix <— Bargain priced! “Two brothers. One impossible choice” Hmmm this one sounds pretty intense! New release, lots of great reviews already!! Jessica says: “It’s angsty but sweet.” and Brenda agrees: “Just finished… I loved it!”
- Tattooed Dots (The Halo Series Book 1) by Kimberly Knight <— Aimee found us this bargain priced one and it’s got TONS of great reviews. Synopsis has me for sure! Single father and an overwhelmed woman meet on a singles cruise (although SHE doesn’t know it’s a single cruise…)
- Beauty in the Ashes (Beautifully Broken Book 1) by Micalea Smeltzer <— And Aimee found us this one too! He’s angry… (tragic past) but… “When Sutton Hale moves into the apartment across the hall from Caelan she’s not prepared for her reaction to him. Something in his broken blue eyes calls to her—after all she’s always had an irrational need to fix everything. But Caelan doesn’t do relationships or feelings. He does drugs and alcohol.“
- Ace’s Redemption (Devil’s Despair Book 1) by A.C. Bextor <— BIKER ALERT!!! Another “Aimee bargain find” and it has a TON of great reviews. Mostly all 5 stars! “Although I knew I wasn’t enough to keep him, this didn’t deter my hope that one day he’d love me for who I was, not the broken girl he tried so desperately to save.“

She’s always known this undertaking would place her life in danger–she never imagined her heart would be as well.“
- Now You See Me: A Novel by Lesley Glaister <— Intriguing synopsis! Haha I can’t resist clicking The Last of the Bad Boys. Wow!
Oh and a few others of course! I wish everyone a Happy New Year!
So many look good and I’m so happy I have all my Amazon gift cards from the holidays! 1-clicking like crazy! Bad Romeo, The Pact, Now You See Me, Wait For Me and Playing With the Drummer…wow that cover! Hot!! And so excited about Never Never….2 great authors! How lucky are we?
Hope everyone’s holiday was great! I’ve been MIA for a while but still completely absorbed with BDB series…. reading Lover Mine (John and Xhex) now….. trying to catch up before the new one comes out!
Does anyone know when Bianca Sommerland will have her next Cobra’s novel out or when Madeline Sheehan will have Undeserving out?
Donna, after just seeing your comment and checking it out, I immediately 1-clicked Last of the Bad Boys….looks good!!
I’ll look it up Darlene and come back and let you know if I find anything.
Oh yessssss Jean and Donna… the one with the blurb that made me *blush* big time!!! Let me know what you guys think if you read it.
I’m reading Kristen Ashley At Peace. I tell ya she never disappoint. I have heard so much about Joe, I see why ahhh
“I hear there’s a moment of tear-your-heart-out angst…” <——— YAY!!!! *clapping hands and squealing* You know the magic words for me, Maryse. I'm not too far into The Pact yet, but so far I'm loving it! 😀
Okay, so my New Year's resolution is to only click samples of what I want unless it is super bargain priced. I tried this not long ago (didn't last :?) but I'm gonna try and stick with it this time. Come on, ladies…help me out and hold me accountable here!! 😉 There are so many good ones up there, but the ones that stick out to me are Love Always Kate, You're So Fine and Wait For Me. And I am really interested in the Three series with all we are hearing about it!
Jean! Missed ya!!
Amy!!!! It’s so hard to stick to that!!!! It’s like chicken wings. I know I can only eat 3… but then when I start… THE PILE OF BONES is incredibly embarrassing. LOL!!!
Wow… I must really want chicken wings. 😐
I downloaded Wait for Me yesterday with great anticipation. Unfortunately it is a DNF. In need of a good editor and a little less crazy sauce… Luckily lots of other treats to one click. Started on the new KA.
Crazy sauce! LOL! I’ve never heard that expression before but I like it. Although it kind of makes me hungry for chicken wings…
I have just started clicking on the look inside option on the books I want to one click right now. It has helped some. May not give the book the best chance but gives me an idea if the style is right for me.
Donna I LOVED LOVED LOVED “At Peace” JOE!!!! Grrrrrrrr and swwooooooooon JOE!!!!
Already read Wild and Free and loved it! I swear my panties melted when he called her ‘pussycat’!!! I also read the newest Neighbors From Hell by RL Mathewson – hilariously awesome. A great addition to that series. It’s called The Game Plan. One-clicked Shoot for the Moon by Rochelle Paige last night so that one might be next…
*snort* OMG Maryse, I’m cracking up picturing you with a huge pile of bones and a bottle of sauce in front of you while you pat the corners of your mouth with a napkin all lady like. LOL!!! Yeah, I know…my mind goes to the weirdest places. 😉
LOL!!! Nothing better than wings and a martini! Dry vodka martini just a little dirty. I know… wings and a martini don’t seem to go together but it’s fun!!!
So tried a sample of Tattooed Dots……and whoa. The hero is so off putting I could not finish the sample. It looks like every review is five stars so maybe he really redeems himself?
I’m reading the pact too! I own all of her books but this is the first one I’ve read
Just one clicked Last of the Bad Boys after reading the comments and The Pact… hope the husband won’t mind me spending New Years Eve with my head buried in a book! Thanks Maryse!
I bought The Pact but put it on my tbr list. I have more than 1 tbr and I’m trying to get all the way finished with at least one of them. I’m starting Bastian’s Storm tonight. Can you believe that it’s still sitting in my tbr? With as much as I loved Surviving Raine, you’d think I’d jump right into the sequel. Just goes to show how crazy my tbr has gotten.
Fabi – Bastian’s Storm is still on my TBR list too!!! And I loved Surviving Raine – I just wasn’t sure about the whole Evan meets Bastian thing. report back soon!!
I think I’m going to squirrel and go with The Three Series book 3 tonight. Unfortunately, it’s been soooo long that I have to go back and read books one and two again first. Ugh. Hate that. But love this series, so it’s worth it.
Maryse…I am at 79% of the Pact…I know it’s coming the angst. But I am loving every minute of it.
i’m almost there Erin!!!
Fabi I haven’t read Sebastian’s Storm yet either and was really anticipating it’s release! Keep us updated!
La dee da, I’m loving The Pact. Wait…oh no…
*meeeeep!!*
*hides behind hands*
Psst, Maryse…martinis go with *everything*. Everything. 😉
*hides behind hands again*
Y’all are tempting me with The Pact. But, no, uh uh. I’m sticking to my guns. Bastian’s Storm picks up almost exactly where Surviving Raine left off. Surviving Raine is one of the few books I read last year whose story just stuck in my mind. I don’t need any kind of refresher for it. Although I remember being enthralled and reading the Beautiful Bastard series nonstop, without a reminder, I can’t remember what it was about. That would be a cool list to make don’t you think? Out of the hundreds of books we read in 2014, which ones do we remember the story with no prompting at all? Mine would be a short list.
Loved At Peace. Joe is definitely my favorite!
Fabi you are right. Only certain books stuck with me and Surviving Raine is one of them! You are making me want to read Bastian’s Storm now! And yes that would be a great list!
The Pact made me cry!!!!! Just sayin’. 😉
My review will be up soon…
Fabi – I haven’t figured out what makes me remember the plot and details of some books and not others. If there were a 6 star system, that would be my 6 star books. There are many many books that I love when I am reading them, and then can’t remember the plot or details or names. I think it helps that I re-read my super duper loved books, so I get another pass at them. But some I remember with only one read. Surviving Raine was one. read it once. Remember almost everything. Loved it. I think that’s why I am afraid to read a follow up. Don’t want to muck it up! And throwing Evan in there… I don’t know…. did Maryse read it?
Did I read Evan? Yep I read all of them… I’m with you Michelle… there are some books that I 5-star love while reading and then, some time after, couldn’t tell you much about it other than I loved it. LOL!
Then there are some that I 5-star loved and two years later can tell you every awesome detail. *sigh* Weird how that happens. And Surviving Raine is one that I can remember completely without having to re-read it. LOVED!!
I LOVED The Pact too, but then again I love everything Karina Halle has written so far!!
Amy, I just started doing that too-just clicking the samples. That way it reminds me what caught my interest without buying the book and have it sit on my tbr list. 😉 *sounds like a good plan, we’ll see if I can stick to it*
Finished Sex Snob. Needed something funny after all the angst books I have read recently.
Reading Amour, Amour and then…not sure. Several on this list caught my attention, Fourth and One, Playing with the Drummer, You’re So Fine.
I just finish Mugs of Love. SOOOO good!! Garrett Sharp is my new book boyfriend 😉
It sounds AWESOME!!!
At about 30% in Amour, Amour. I think I like it but, I can’t figure it out where it is going.
Jean and Fabi- Bastian’s Storm is in my dnf list. Just couldn’t get into it. Maybe it was me at the time. Curious to hear what you think.
I just finished Mugs of Love today, and it’s fantastic! I have read all of her other books, but this is by far my favorite! She is becoming one of my favorite authors!!! And Nancy, I totally agree with you about Garrett, his “man of simple words” thing is normally a turn off, but reading him thinking about how much he loves Emily makes up for it completely!!!!
I have the same thing happen with books I love where sometimes I can’t remember much of anything that happened and other times there are scenes I will actually go back and re-read just because those scenes were so moving or poignant or beautiful. Or heart crushing. 😉
Off the top of my head, scenes I have re-read are from Arsen from the point where she is in the coffee shop with her dad and sees *him* and then all the way to the end, Maybe Someday in the hallway when *those* words are said (oh, my heart!), Tristan and Danika book 3 when everything is revealed and then through to the end, and – my heart just clenched – in Lover Awakened when Z is working with Mary and then Bella walks in to talk to him. *sigh*
Oh, and on the flip side there are scenes I won’t re-read. Ever. They were just…so…well, they killed me or twisted my heart and gut (as in a lot, even for me ;)) but that’s how perfectly they were written for that particular scene or event. Like near the end of Holy Trinity book 2 at the lakeside cabin (that hurt :(), Drowning Instinct at the part with the coat (still hurts), Bright Side (y’all know which part) and When It Rains (fugly cried).
Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!!!! I’m all set for tomorrow with greasy breakfast hangover food (eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns *drool* and, of course, mimosas for the “hair of the dog” ;)) and then a NYD supper of pork roast, black-eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread. And we can’t forget the sweet tea…VERY sweet tea. 😀
Happy new year everyone!!!! It’s past midnight here hope you all have it great year when it comes!!! Thank you maryse for making my reading in 2014 awesome!!! Happy reading in 2015 everyone!!
Laura, Happy New Year!!
Amy, I’m like you it is the really emotional and/ or romantic moments I’ll go back and ‘re read. And then some times get sucked back in and read to the end. Oh and YUM, seriously. I say we all stop by Amy’s house for dinner, lol.
Amy, what a southern NYD dinner. We always have black eyed peas for “luck.”
I too re-read certain parts that tend to have strongly affected me emotionally-either swoon worthy or tears my stomach up feelings. The part in Bright Side, the video shoot in Reckless are just a couple that come to mind. Have Drowning Instinct on my tbr, think I’ll move it up.
Happy New Year’s everyone!!!! Looking forward to a New Year of more fantastic reading thanks to Maryse’s blog and all the rec’s/comments from you fantastic women here!!! 🙂
Happy New Year’s ladies!
Thanks for the great list as always! I just finished The Pact and LOVED it! Another hot Scot! Enjoy your reading this week ladies! 🙂
