Happy Monday everyone!! I can’t believe it’s already almost August… it feels like Halloween is right around the corner (which I love so… no complaints from me) π
THREE THINGS:
1.) I cooked up a STORM yesterday… spent the entire day pretty much making everything in my fridge into a meal, and now I have all my meals covered for the week. π I love when I do that.
2.) Last Sunday I had the most awesome salsa when I was at that outdoor birthday party (and got a bit sunburned). I just got the recipe and made that one, too (it’s their “family recipe salsa” that they make for every get together). It’s a base of bright colored bell peppers, tomatoes and celery – all finely diced and OMG YUMMMM!!! I only wish they made Keto corn chips. π I’m not usually huge on bell peppers (at least not as the base of a dish) so I was hesitant, especially when everyone was telling me how it was the best ever… but WHOA. It. Was. AMAZING.
3.) I started The Penalty Box: A hockey sports romance novel (A Vancouver Wolves Hockey Romance Book 3)Β yesterday and I’m into it! I like the tone of it, the writing, a few parts made me chuckle. Its good!! I just wish it as strictly from her POV. It makes more more antsy to be in her head and see him through her eyes and never really know what he’s thinking. That’s how I can forget myself and “become her” and stress with her and get attached and pine properly… π

*whispers* Good morning! Breakfast ends at 9 here and everyone is sleeping. Whatβs a girl to do? Enjoy this precious peace or hop to? I had insomnia terrible last night. *sigh*
I saw you were in TN last night. Did you go to the bookstore yet?
I’d enjoy the peace. π
It’s a little late…but I hope you chose “peace”:…
I did not choose peace. Better to eat and get the day going. We just left, on the road again. We did stop in the bookstore and it wasnβt open yet. Apparently theyβre an hour behind and my phone didnβt change. So, I got up early for nothing. Luckily, we were only 10 minutes early and waited. Cute place. Iβd have explored more without a couple kids whining and saying βlook Mom, look.β
I got Never Have I Ever in paperback a day early! What luck! And the kids each got 2 books so I couldnβt get everything I wanted. I also wanted to get a local author and chose The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks. It was so hard to choose between that one and Finding Franklin by Katie Shands. She said that one had been flying off the shelves. Iβll buy it when I read a couple more books. π
Good morning! Itβs been awhile so I am checking in. RL has been keeping me busy. I had a great weekend of reading several goodies!!! So my weekend was awesome!
My 3 things this Monday:
1. I am a little melancholy this morning. More than likely due to summer winding down. My kiddos only have a week before school starts back…
2. A really, really LOVED Million Dollar Marriage by Katy Evans. I mean she is a given for me…but I LOVED the whole concept of this book. From the vast difference in personalities between the h and H to the reality show that brought them together. It was the awesome. Also, I finally got around to reading the Demigod of San Francisco series. Just awesome!
3. And finally…nothing funnier than coming into the office to see a sign by the badge reader stating that it is now called βArea 51β. And the claim is because it is a βrestrictedβ area…and not because of the folks working behind the door. Yeah, right! LOL…
I can’t believe how early school starts now. When I was in school, we only started again the day after Labor Day…
Summer is for fun and vacation!! *sigh*
*hugs DG*
*hugs back Maryse*
I feel the same way…way back when, summer vacation lasted 3 solid months. Way too short now!
D.G., I loved Million Dollar Marriage too! It was a great concept and there was terrific chemistry between the H and h!
I agree Michele!
Good morning! Happy Monday!!β€οΈοΈβ€οΈοΈβ€οΈοΈ
I know I’m probably one of the last people in the world who hasn’t read or watched The Girl on the Train (hubs has even seen the movie! π), but I listened to the audio book this weekend while I was cleaning through the stuff on the porch and I loved it! What a great mystery! I figured out some of it before the end, but there was plenty that I didn’t.
I’m doing more porch cleaning today, so I’m listening to Never Let You Go by Chevy Stevens. I’m about 40% in and it’s great so far!
Ooooh I LOVED Girl on the Train. GREAT ending!!!!!!!
Loved The Girl on the Train!!
Nay- I havenβt read or seen it either. So you are not alone my friend!
Maryse, are you reading the Penalty Box without reading the first two books?
Lisa C… I am. Everyone is seeming to love that one the most, and when I heard it mentioned that it had a similar feel to “Wall of Winnipeg” and slow burn, I knew I was in.
I LOVE unrequited love!!!! GASP! I mean… in books!!! Only ever in books!! π
Did you just say it has a “Wall of Winnipeg” feel??? Uh oh….up it goes on my TBR….
Yes ma’am. And I can vouch for that. I’m only 30% in, but yep. Def. that feel.
Thanks. Iβm jumping in! π
Hold up! Similar to WoW…I need to check this out..
I just finished Penalty Box this morning. I hadn’t read the first two but felt this one totally worked as a stand alone. I really enjoyed the story and couldn’t put it down. Parts of it were over the top but I really liked the main characters. Thinking I’m going to tack Guy on the Right next.
Good morning everyone! *enthusiastic wave to DG* Too tired for 3 things right now. I still need more coffee for that. π Weird how school starts at diff times depending on where you are? Here school always starts the Wednesday before Labor Day. When I was in school, it started the Wednesday after labor day. Not sure why it changed.
*waves excitedly back at Leslie*
Ours started after Labor Day years back…makes no sense why they move it about so much. Now it is either at the first of August or a couple weeks in.
1. I totally enjoyed my pool this weekend. Floated and listened to audiobooks and drank a skinny marg (or two…) I listened to The Art of Racing in the Rain because I wanted to either read or listen to it before I see the movie. OMG, so good! I mean, don’t get me wrong, there were tears shed, but not necessarily the ones I anticipated.
2. Just finished an ARC of All It Takes by Kristen Proby last night (squeaking it in before the release date). Such a fun, feel good book. I hadn’t read the first one in the series, but it read fine as a standalone. I still really enjoyed it! Of course, I now want to go back and read books 1 and 3 (when it comes out)…loved all the characters. I’m hooked…
3. I’m intrigued by your new salsa recipe, Maryse…now I’m hungry…
I recommend The Art of Racing in the Rain to everyone I know. It makes you reevaluate how you treat your precious fur babies, what they are thinking, etc.
I totally agree Kathy!! I really wonder what goes through my pups’ heads!!
It is FANTASTIC!! And let me tell you, I cheated on Keto that day with *just a few!!!* “Hint of Lime” Tostitos. HOLY MOLY that makes ALL the difference. That super-salt/sour lime flavor on the chips in that tangy salsa (kind of sweet because of all the colored bell peppers) is INCREDIBLE together.
That was my cheat of that weekend. It was a birthday and there was plenty of double chocolate birthday cake and I didn’t touch it. I chose Tostitos. LOL!!
I just read Micalea Smeltzer’s, Whatever Happens. It is about a high school senior who moves to a new town after her younger sister’s suicide and the friendship she develops with her next door neighbor. (Also has elements of bullying involved). Definitely recommend this read. Not sexually explicit so if you have a teenager, this would be a great book for them or you to read.
Thank you Kathy!! π !!!
The description reminds me of Ryanβs Bed by Tijan. But there are some 18 and older moments. Have you read this one?
I like the look of All It Takes, Michele G, but it’s pretty pricy on kindle π so I’m not sure. i’m trying to rein in my kindle spending……. yeah, ask me how that’s working……. LOL.
Million Dollar Marriage is on KU, though. Now you’re talking.
Maryse, a new historical romance is being released on Aug 1st that could be fun. Miss Benwick Reforms A Rogue by Maggie Fenton. First in a new series. Her other trilogy, (Regency Romp) was cute and enjoyable. I’m going to check out the new one when it’s released. They’re all on KU BTW, including the new one when it’s out. Sweet. π π
