The new year has brought some great suggestions, including this one (over and over again)!
This one comes highly recommended by Rena:
“I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of the book The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. The setting is in World War 2 and it’s a love triangle between a soldier and two sisters. If you love Christian, Kellan and Travis, I can’t imagine you NOT falling in love with Alexander. Honestly, he puts the squee in squee-worthy. He’s got Travis’ possessiveness, Christian’s intimidation, and Kellan’s hotness. Alexander is really real. He gets angry and he can be scary but he’s passionate and adorable and funny and delicious, … Anyway, this book has everything you could ever want. A tortured hero, a really really intense love, maybe too much sex, and angsty angsty angst.”
And Yadi:
“I noticed that you haven’t reviewed The Bronze Horseman trilogy. I promise you will fall in love with Alexander! Try it..loved this series more than Outlander.”
AND Heather:
“Had to comment since your website looks like a duplicate of my kindle 😀 If you love Outlander try The Bronze Horeseman, same amazing love epic kind of book, (Alexander is def a badddd boy, but so dreamy 😉 ) Takes a while to get into it but when you do, *sigh*. One of my favorites along with Outlander.”
About book #1:
Two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha, share the same bed, living in one room with their brother and parents. It is a hard, impoverished life, yet the Metanovs know many who are not as fortunate as they.
The family routine is shattered on 22 June 1941 when Hitler invades Russia. For the Metanovs, for Leningrad and for Tatiana, life will never be the same again. On the fateful day, Tatiana meets a brash young officer named Alexander.
Tatiana and her family suffer as Hitler’s army advances on Leningrad, and the Russian winter closes in. With bombs falling and the city under siege, Tatiana and Alexander are drawn to each other in an impossible love. It is a love that could tear Tatiana’s family apart, a love that carries a secret that could mean death for anyone who hears it.
The READING ORDER:
- The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman Trilogy)
- Tatiana and Alexander: A Novel (The Bronze Horseman Trilogy)
- The Summer Garden: A Novel (Tatiana and Alexander)
- Tatiana’s Table: Tatiana and Alexander’s Recipes for Food and Love (NOTE: this is an actual cookbook of the recipes cooked by Tatiana throughout her life)
I read this book several years ago and fell in love with Alexander, I thought it was a beautiful story and it just came alive for me. I felt like I was there, her world building was spectacular. You are the only person that I have known to not only read it but review it. Over the years, I found the rest of the books but I only have one of the others and it sits on my out of control TBR pile, I will get to them one day but I most definitely would recommend it for something different from the paranormal. I am so glad you enjoyed it as well!!
Lisa. I heard there was a cliffhanger?
Ooooo these are next on my TBR pile. They are sitting on my shelf waiting for me to work up the courage to read them. I hear they are quite the tear jerked but are the ‘greatest love story every told’ so I can’t wait to read them

Aestas! I love it when you know you’re gonna get into something BIG!
I love, love, love this series! I have had such a crush on Alexander for such a long time. So darn good!
Robyn: It does look intense!! I adored Jamie (well…. most of the time) in Outlander so I’m anxious to see where this one takes me.
From what I heard, this one and the next one end on cliffhangers but it all wraps up in book 3. (kinda like Fifty Shades style)
Hey Maryse…..is this a historical romance????I don’t like them much…But I surely doon’t wanna miss a good romance novel…..
Help! Now that I’ve finished with this trilogy, what do I read next that is similar to this and just as good? Who am I kidding? It will be very hard to be as good as this series. Anyone have any suggestions for me? I’m desparate. I’m so not over this series yet. Nope, not by a longshot!
Have you read the Outlander series yet? By Diana Gabaldon. AMAZING!!!!
Bronze Horseman is by far the best love story I have read! And FYI, I read A LOT. Read Outlander, Fifty Shades, but nothing seems to compare! Anyone have any other recommendations? I like love stories, steamy is fine as long as its not a corny romance novel. I like stories that are GOOD. I can’t stand those shallow novels in the romance section…
Dawn! It is a GREAT story. I’m still reading it, but book #1 is for sure, in my all-time favorites. I’d love to find out about more in this genre.
I HAVE JUST BEGUN READING THE BRONZE HORSEMAN. I THOUGHT I HAD PURCHASED THE FOLLOW UP BOOKS IN “THE BRIDGE TO HOLY CROSS” AND “THESUMMER GARDEN. CAN YOU TELL ME THE CORRECT SECQUENCE AND TITLES I SHOULD BE TRYING TO OBTAIN OF THE TRILOGY?
THANK OU.
Just finished reading the first book.It took me about 8 days…I just could not stop reading. And yes…I am in love with Alexander too.I felt like I was living the story. I can hardly wait to read the second book, cause I was hoping for a happy ending…and the end left me crying and wanting to read more.I am waiting now for the 2nd one..a few days. I can’t wait.
I have most of the books written by Paulina Simons. The Bronze Horseman Trilogy my favourite.I would like a copy of the trilogy books in correct sequence, the titles seem to change,The Bridge To The Holy Cross does not seems to feature much.Very confusing for me.Also what is the tittle of her most recent book ??.
Many Thanks.
