Many of you have asked for a Military Romance book list, so here it is! As usual, this is a work in progress as I know there are TONS more books in this genre. I kept postponing this list, to keep adding more, but OMG I’ve just gotta publish it now, and and add to it while it’s live. This should definitely get us started! Plus, there are a few that are freebies today (listed below) and one that I shall be reviewing later today (Just Remember to Breathe) <—- that I loved!
Let’s fall in love with a hero, shall we?
I’ve tried to separate the list by Military Branch, but sometimes, I couldn’t quite tell by the synopsis, so I’ve made a “miscellaneous” category, too. Whether they be ex-military or still active, if the military was a major part of the hero’s life, he (or she) is here. If you know of any more, or can recommend any out of the following list, please let me know!
Kirsty: Which brings me to my question, do you have, not necessarily a list, but off the top of your head know of any or many post military books? About ex service men struggling to come to terms with what they’ve seen etc. Preferably with romance too? Thanks so much if you’re able to help.
Mary: Can we have a navy seal or army one too???
Melissa: Also a … Navy Seals?!?! *Squeee* <— sidenote from Maryse: she was excited about news of an upcoming military suspense series by Tara Sivec. *squee* is right!!
Georgia: If you want a Military-themed series you have to start Lora Leigh’s Tempting Seals (some are novellas and some are full books … Hidden Agendas, Dangerous Games and Killer Secrets) This is continued into Elite Ops – my favorites being “Wild Card and Live Wire”.
Totally enjoyable and extremely HOT Alpha Males !!!

- Her Own Best Enemy (The Remnants, Book 1) by Cynthia Justlin
- The Edge of Courage (Red Team) by Elaine Levine
- UNTYING THE KNOT by Linda Gillard
Don’t forget Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley! I am not sure what branch of the armed forces he was in, but Hawk was definitely yummy 🙂
I have one to add, it’s called If I Lie by Corrine Jackson, I read it earlier this year (when it was free). I think it is about the Marines, more about a girl who’s “hero” boyfriend is away at war and she cheat’s on him and becomes the town’s “devil” but the whole thing is a lie and when he goes MIA she isn’t sure if she should protect him or tell everyone about the lie. It has lots of references that had me lost, but if you are familiar with the military, military life or way its a great read. Heart wrenching all around!
Don’t forget the Virgin River guys had lots of military background and a lot of the books involve their military experience. 🙂
oh,you have to put suzanne brockmann’s navy seals books there too!!!her books are the best!!!!
Also, the KGI series by Maya Banks!!
The Rescue Series its one of my favorites one Love them all!!!!!
Listen to the song Love Vigilantes by Iron & Wine while reading one of these… So beautiful
Thanks for mentioning UNTYING THE KNOT. I’m the author.
I hope you won’t mind me mentioning that UTK isn’t about a Navy SEAL. Magnus is a Scot and he served in the British army working in bomb disposal. He was blown up, invalided out and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Despite the grim-sounding subject matter, it’s a very romantic book with quite a lot of comedy and it was recently awarded an IndieBRAG Medallion. (Book Readers Appreciation Group.)
Thank you!! Awesome! He’s a hero in my book, and I placed it in the “misc.” section. 🙂
I just read you list and had to tell you that I too really enjoyed If I Lie. Some of it was a little over the top ( you’ll know when) but most of it I felt what the characters were feeling and concept of the story kept me intrigued.
Here are some of my military favorites that were not mentioned:
Stephanie Tyler- Hold Trilogy- navy seals
Stephanie Tyler- Shadow Force series- delta force
Stephanie Tyler- Seal Trilogy- Blaze
Cat Johnson- Red, Hot & Blue Series
Rita Henuber- Under Fire & Under Fire:The Admiral- Coast Guard
Julie Miller- several military books
Beth Kery-The Soldier’s Baby Bargain
Kelly Abell- Sealed In Lies & Captured In Lies
Claire Ashgrove-A Christmas To Believe In
Christina Skye- Seal Series
Dahlia Rose- several military romances
Cindy Gerard- several
M. L. Buchman- Black Hawk Pilots
Nina Bruhns-Red Heat & White Hot+ several others
Sandra Hill- Seals/Viking II Series
Suzanne Brockmann
Shannon McKenna- McCloud
Shelli Stevens-Holding Out For A Hero Series
Teresa J. Reasor- Breaking Free & Breaking Through
Great list since I haven’t read very many of them – adding new ones to TBR list now. Loved the Rescue Me series by Kallypso Masters and the Black Knights Inc series by Julie Ann Walker. I have read a couple of the Elle Kennedy’s Out of Uniform, but not all of them. I definately think Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series fits in this list too since all of the main characters served in the military – Marines, Army & I think Air Force – been a while since I read them.
Thanks so much for mentioning my Task Force 125 books!
I’d love to submit them for reviews if you have time for them 🙂
Oh, you’re missing out on the Suzanne Brockmann Books. All of them. OMG. And Cindy Gerard. And Maya Banks’ KGI series. So many hunky men, so little time….
I have some serious updates/additions to do on this list. Thank you guys sooooo much for sending me all of these suggestions! I shall get cracking!
I love Suzanne Brockman’s Tall Dark and Dangerous series. She has another SEALS series too called Troubleshooters which I haven’t read but the TDD series is great because there is a real sense of the SEAL team and their assorted women being a real family plus when the guys have to go kick ass or mount a rescue they do it in such amazing unbelievable ways! In a way they are total bad assessed Bc the seem totally invincible!
A couple of old series which are wrapped up-Susan Andersen Marine Series, Linda Howard MacKenzie’s Mountain Series, both good and may be available on kindle and epub from your public library. LOVE Suzanne Brockmann TDD series especially Prince Joe the first one AND Troubleshooters(all are must reads) also online at the library and both wrapped up. Loved Lora Leigh’s SEALS series and Elite Ops–think both are wrapped. And How about Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series for some really hot elite ops guys experimented on to enhance their psychic abilities…This series is ongoing and also may be at your library.
Oh yes, the Troubleshooter series by Suzanne Brockmann. Read in order starting with The Unsung Hero, the series just gets better from there. It’s Navy Seals (and former Seals). If you like love stories that develop over several books she’s gonna knock your socks off (Sam and Alyssa’s story is the best, but you have to read several books to get the whole thing, and they are hot, wooo weeeee). SB writes fantastic alpha men, often weaves in historical threads in the form of secondary characters and their love stories. Just a fantastic writer.
Coast Guard!! I’ve actually only read one Ashley Lynn Willis’s The Calling, but still it’s a military branch and I’m sure they’re out there.
Maryse, don’t forget Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series Marines! YUMMY!! They are not to be missed…each one gets sweeter and hunkier and hotter!!!
It’s two days before Thanksgiving, I need to clean my house, finish the shopping and I’m 64% of the way into “Just Remember to Breathe”…. I’m anxious to go on and yet I can’t stop!!! What is Dylan thinking???!!!
Hi Maryse
Just wanted to let you know thanks for giving me a good way to find new authors and genres.
I have a recommendation for you – Seal of Honor by Tonya Burrows.
It’s the first in a new series called HORNET.
I think this series will be much like the KGI Series (which I love – can’t wait for Van’s story), anyway this series has characters from several branches and the FBI. It’s pretty good.
I don’t have a kindle but I know it is available on Amazon
Jaxine Daniels Air Force PJ series is so good.
Highly recommend the following:
Heather Long’s “Always a Marine” short story series about Veterans and active duty Marines finding love. Partial proceeds from the 2013 holiday stories will be donated to the “Wounded Warrior Project.”
J.M. Madden’s “Lost and Found” series, about Veterans starting a private investigation company and dealing with PTSD.
Melissa Schroeder’s “The Santinis,” “The Johnsons,” and “Little Harmless” series, so emotional, edgy and incredibly hot, hot, hot.
Laura Kaye’s “Heroes” and “Hard Ink” series.
Tonya Burrows’ “HORNET” and “Wilde Security” series.
Rhonda Nelson’s “Ranger Security (Men Out of Uniform – Harlequin)” series.
Don’t forget Lindsay McKenna’s 100+ military romances including the series Morgan’s Mercenaries and its sub series and the Black Jaguar Squadron along with her new series The Shadow Warriors
I just finished The two books currently available in Heather Ashby’s Love in the Fleet series, “Forgive and Forget” and “Forget me Not”. Navy men. Yum!
I have one to add! Back To You by Jessica Mastorakos! It’s a Marine Corps book and it’s the first one in the series! The second one is called Away From You and the third one will be out this summer. They’re so good!!
I have been reading Seal of Protection series by Susan Stoker. OMG, Cried in every one of them. I don’t agree with all, but I truly like the stories.
Love Corrine Michaels books.
Funny, romantic, sexy.
Corinne Michaels also.
Sexy, funny, romantic, great characters.
Good seal books you can add
Crazy good and Set in Stone by Rachel Robinson
Tara Janzen’s Steele street and Christina Skye’s Code name series is what started my love of reading military men. I also love Julie Ann Walker and Rebecca Zanetti’s Sin Series.
A million thanx for this great list Maryse. This’ll keep me busy for a long time!
I don’t know if anyone has added this, I didn’t read all the posts but the Men of Honor series by KC Lynn. They are about ex navy seals and are really amazing books. Happy reading.
Susan Stoker, SEALs of Protection series
Elle Kennedy Out of Uniform series
Melissa Schroeder The Santinis series, Semper Fi Marines series
Cat Johnson Hot SEALs and the Kindle World books
Cora Seaton Heroes of Chance Creek ( who are all ex military)
Zoe York SEALs Undone series
Thanks , it helped me a lot
First and foremost let me thank the authors for writting about our men and women in uniform in a very positive light.
Secondly let me thank you the readers of such novels, weather intended of not you have been given the chance to discover exactly what lurks in the hearts minds and souls of not only S.O.C. operators but those in the “regs” aswell. Be it man or woman, navy army air force or marines to often the general public either ignores or trusts by stereotypes what kind of individuals serve our nation in the military. Most of wich are labeled “damaged” or out right crazy.
These books are a start to understanding those who serve and why they choose to do so they may also illistrate exactly how high a cost they pay for the freedoms of the populaceas a whole. Personal sacrifices few others would or could endure.
As holloywood has made most S.O.C. operators out to be robotic killing machines (john rambo) or nut jobs bent on a hairbrain scheem it is with great admiration that i thank all of you for giving those who serve a chance, to get to know us in some small yet very meaningful manner.
For many generations soldiers weather honorable or ruthless have been left by the wayside for a prince charmming or billionare playboys, Dukes Earls and Marquis. Yet none of them will ever posses the nobility honor compassion or diamond in the ruff romanceof a soldier. Good reading and great hunting in the forrest of love to all
Hey, anyone know of a book in which a military man comes home and finds a woman in his home pretending to be his wife? It was good, but I can’t remember title or author…
Did you ever find it?
“The Vixen and the Vet” by Katy Regnery is fantastic. I read it, and immediately read it again! It was THAT GOOD! I wasn’t crazy about the title, but Since it’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, it makes sense.
I also LOVED LOVED LOVED Claudia Conner’s “Worth the Fall.” I cried. It was beautiful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Don’t forget Matt Buchmann, (M L Buchmann)’s Nightstalker series, the women are superhero pilots, mechanics etc in the elite Nightstalker squadron who spend a lot of time supporting and rescuing special forces. One of my favourite series.
There is a 5th SEALs inc series book by Mia DIamond, The Cat’s Meow (SEALS, Inc. Book 5) .
“Don’t Go” by Lisa Scottoline is good, too. It’s about a guy who’s wife dies while he’s at war. When he comes back for her funeral, his 7-month-old daughter doesn’t know him and he finds out his wife might have been having an affair while he was gone.
The book was a little depressing because of what he goes through, but still super interesting and unexpected as the mystery unfolds.
The war scenes are described beautifully and are filled with “gallows humor”. Love it!
So glad i found you!
I have been looking for a book I read awhile back. Maybe 3 years. Its an ex military group of men who started a security company.
What i remember of the book is. They have a headquarters in the mountains. One guy rents a house from a woman who wotks at her uncles office. She thinks he is a drug dealer because he pays in cash.
He is there to find a kidnapped child, who’s parents are actors.
They make contact with the kidnappers and they are Russian mob/mofia ( i think)
Ransom is arranged and at the exchange there is a fight . The woman shoots 2 of the guys on dirt bikes and the jeep the child is in rolls over she with two the the team save the child and the guy driving it.
One of the team is injured and insists he is take to a hospital hours away because he has the hots for a Doctor there.
HELP i need to find and read this book again
Hi Lynn!!!
I’m glad you found us, too!! I’ve posted your question. Here it is: https://www.maryse.net/reader-questions/reader-question-the-book-about-the-ex-military-security-guy-that-is-looking-for-a-kidnapped-child.html
Let’s keep checking back in case the right guess is submitted. Let me know if you see it. 🙂
*hug*
Maryse
You should read some Lindsey Mckenna books thet are the best
I need help finding a book. It’s a series about a military unit seals or special forces. It’s a romance but what I remember most is they were ona mission and the only movie they had was the princess bride so they all know the movie forwards and backwards. The first book deals with a girl getting kidnapped, it takes place on the coast as well either Alabama or Louisiana. Can you help?
Hi Tobi!
I just posted your reader question here: https://www.maryse.net/reader-questions/reader-question-the-book-about-the-military-heroes-that-knew-the-princess-bride-forwards-and-backwards.html
Keep an eye on it and let me know if you see the right guess. 🙂
Could it be Susan Stoker Rescuing Mary? I googled it. I don’t know if I’m right bc I didn’t read the book.
Do you happen to know of a book in which a military man comes home and finds a woman in his home pretending to be his wife? I can’t remember title or author but it was written before 2015 at least.
