You know my TBR list? It’s full. It needs to be read. It has a ton of books that I KNOW are going to rock my world, and yet… I’m still *squirreling* over a bunch more books. So I made another list.
These are the ones that have been making me squirrel with each “release” and “bargain” list I make. I highlight ’em, I one-click a bunch of ’em as I go, but then… as more awesome sounding blurbs bombard me, I forget ’em. But I don’t wanna forget ’em, ’cause I wanna read ’em. So I made myself this misc. “TBR list”. 😉 Maybe some of these’ll interest you, too? Or maybe you’ve read one, and wanna tell me about it? 😀
- 53 Letters For My Lover by Leylah Attar <—
I WANNA read this one next. That blurb *oomphed* me, big time!!! I just know it’s gonna hurt. READ! MY Book Review - The Wright Brother By Marie Hall <—
This is the one I’m reading right now and I think I just hot the “good” part. 😉 I mean… it’s been good and all, but I’m feeling might anxious right now. and I LOVE THAT! He’s deaf and color blind… and he falls for his neighbor. “My world was bleak, silent and empty, until her. Until I met my neighbor, Elisa Jane Adrian.” Sounds like it’s going to be sooooo wonderful!!!READ!! My Book Review - You: A Novel by Caroline Kepnes <—
DARK READ ALERT!!!! This one’s not out yet, but it’s up for pre-order and OMG it is SO for us!!!! “Beck doesn’t know it yet, but she’s perfect for him, and soon she can’t resist her feelings for a guy who seems custom made for her. But there’s more to Joe than Beck realizes, and much more to Beck than her oh-so-perfect façade. Their mutual obsession quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences . . .” <— YIKES!!!!!!READ!!! My Book Review - Written In Red: A Novel of the Others by Anne Bishop <—
some of my best reading buds SWEAR by this paranormal book. I’m hearing it is EVERYTHING I love in these kinds of reads. MichelleS & Bev LOVE it Bev says: “This was a book daze. Do you ever feel like a part of you was left and is still living in the book? That was this one for me for a couple weeks after. So if feeling paranormal maybe look it up.” and Niki loves it, too: “I started this one last night and then dreamed about it all night long!! That only happens with really good books for me 🙂 Haven’t been able to put it down today; I am officially hooked!” READ!! My Book Review - Ten Below Zero by Whitney Barbetti <— More tissues, I hear… and I’m still scared!! “I’m indifferent to everything, everyone. The only emotion I feel with any kind of depth is annoyance, and I feel it often. A text message sent to the wrong number proves to be my undoing. His name is Everett, but I call him rude. He’s pushy, he’s arrogant, he crowds my personal space, and worst of all: he makes me feel.” <— OH!! I like to feel. Especially if it’s angsty-like. In books. 😉 Only in books. 😉
- One To Tell The Grandkids by Kristina M. Sanchez <— Single and pregnant, and a potential love triangle?! Sounds like it’s going to be angsty. YES PLEASE!!
- Falling In: (Intermix) (The Surrender Trilogy) by Lydia Michaels <— I want to read the whole trilogy and I hear this one REALLY has us connecting hard. Kandace says: “It’s about a girl who has lived her entire life on the street and a rich guy. It sounds simple but it is way more than that.” PLUS!! I hear book #2 has something that happens that made Kandace soooo mad!!
- The Rules Regarding Gray by Elizabeth Finn <— Her boyfriend gives her permission to be with his best friend, but with rules. What happens when the best friend starts falling for her, though. GAH!!!! ANGST!!! Triangle ANGST!! Kim is reading it and says: “I started The Rules Regarding Gray OMG OMG just OMG LOVE it!!!!!!”
- A Natural Act (Contradictions) by R.J. Sable <— MMA fighter/med student helps an abused woman…
- Away (The Keaton Series Book 1) by B.A. Wolfe <— I’ve been told to go in blind by some of my trusted reading buds!! I love when people tell me that.
- FATE BOOK (a New Adult Novel) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff <— MichelleS is adamant that I read this one!! And I think it sounds perfect. She says: “I will mention AGAIN the book I just finished. I want someone else to enjoy it, dang it. It’s called Fate Book. It was such a surprise. It starts off with a girl who tells a whopper of a lie because her arch-enemy is such a bee-yotch. She posts on FB that she has a boyfriend and uses a picture of a hot model she finds on the internet. Who is going to find out? He’s in the Hamptons!! THEN….. one day he shows up!! And he tells her to go along with it, or else. or else what? Why? what the? Then it gets crazy. The girls is so funny and loveable. And he is a complete mystery. And you have NO IDEA why he is pretending to be her hot boyfriend. The writing was great. It’s a stand alone. HEA. Epilogue. It was like KA lite….. loved it. If nothing is doing it for you, you should read this one.””
- The Vixen and the Vet by Katy Regnery <— SCARRED MILITARY MAN/HERMIT ALERT, so you know it’s just right up my alley!
- Pretty Instinct (A New Adult/Erotic Romance) by S.E. Hall <— The title and blurb for this book doesn’t tell me much, but the amount of awesome reviews for this one blows me away!!! I’m hearing big fat sob-fest, and I’ve just gotta know. Plus… it says “tour bus”. 😉
- I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre <—
Another one that can’t stop calling my name. Single handsome but grumpy father, living in the same apartment building that she does… Oh I bet their banter will be awesome! And Tracie loved it, saying: “It. Was. Awesome. It was exactly what I wanted and I just fell in love with everyone! Their honesty was so refreshing, and their intimacy was just beautiful, the sweet words.. I want more. I never wanted it to end… I don’t know what it was, but this book just grabbed me, everything Ty said had me melting.” READ!!! My Book Review - Surviving Love by Ada Frost <— I love moody grumpy gorgeous heroes, and so here’s another that i don’t want to forget about. Super-moody-grumpy hot guy living with her… “What do you do when you find out you’re pregnant, your boyfriend rejects you, your sister is beaten half to death and the most annoyingly gorgeous man takes up residence in your house?“
- Heart Of Light by T.K. Leigh <— DARK READ ALERT and has SOOOOO many 5 star reviews. Almost ALL 5 star reviews… I MUST READ THIS!!! Abused, escapes, and is in hiding… after many years, she finally feels free, and falls in love… until… *gasp!!!*
- Blood & Roses Series by Callie Hart <— I’m hearing this installment series is to die for but the series isn’t complete yet, so I’m just waiting on that. 🙂 This hero is pure bad and plain ol’ awesome and so many of our fellow readers are melting left and right. “She wants me to be her hero, But I’m not a good man. I am her damnation.”
- Rules of Protection by Alison Bliss <— So many are loving this one! She’s in the witness protection program and her special agent “handler” has to hide her deep in the Texas woods… with him. YAY ME!!! Christine says: “LMAO funny! It’s in the Rock Chick and Wallbanger funny category.” and Linh loved it, too! “I just finished reading Rules of Protection by Alison Bliss and I am still smiling. It’s such an entertaining book. The heroine has absolutely no filter and everything that comes out of her mouth is hilarious. And I love it when the hero is strong and quiet and just lets her run rings around him. The supporting characters were fun and can I say I had such a great time with this book? It would make such a great Rom Com movie. Please file this for when u want to just have fun with a book and need something light.“
- The Viper (Untamed Hearts Book 1) by Kele Moon <— I love everything this author writes, and with this one she combines two of my bad-boy book-loves… MMA fighters and Mob guys… YES!!!!
- He Found Me by Whitney Barbetti <— Another DARK READ sounding blurb that made me eeeeeep!!! “And the moment I started allowing myself to open up, allowing someone to see through the superficial, was the very same moment the Monster from my past would return to find me.” Great reviews, and part two is expected out this month!
I haven’t read any of those yet BUT I have to tell you, I have 14 of your list also ready to be read. I have no idea when, it seems my one clicking everyday just starts burying all the others. I have to throw this question out there…. To my fellow readers…my fellow Maryse followers……Do you give yourself a weekly dollar limit on your one clicks? This reading addiction that I got into 3 years ago with Fifty shades has me reading 2-3 books a week, but I spend sometimes $15.00+ every week or so…. I must have 200+ books unread in my kindle and I’m having a hard time keeping up with my sequels as well. I need to organize my crap better. How does everyone keep track?
LOL!!
This is how I do it, Patty. I just make multiple lists, and I publish them for everyone to see, so it kind of forces me to keep going back to them. 😛
OMG. Gotta laugh a little. The one quote you pull for Written in Red is the one that is totally tongue in cheek from Bev … I gotta explain. It is a fabulous urban fantasy read, but it is not in any way tragic or a sob fest. That was a joke because everyone was picking sad books instead of reading Written in Red, so Bev decided to play a little game and say ti was super tragic!!! Just wanted to clear that up!!!
I am reading The Wright Brother too. Some of it is a bit weird (the palm signing and the implied color-blindness meaning he sees no color?)… makes me wonder if the author knows that deaf people do not sign into others’ palms and that color blind doesn’t mean no colors… besides that weird part, I like it so far…….
Are you going to create a top 5 list of your summer reads??? I love all your lists 🙂
53 letters!! SO intense and beautifully written! Good thing my hubby can’t see this bc that and Last letter from your lover by Jojo are my 2 faves this year, he might be concerned LOL
Bev’s quote for Written in Red seriously made me crack up. And snort. She knows just what descriptive words will catch our attention, LOL!!
Patty, um…the unread books on my Kindle app is in the four digits. I wish I was kidding. 😐 Then again, I *do* have serious self-control issues. 😉 Hope that makes you feel a little better!
I’ve read 3 of your 20 (53 Letters, 10 Below Zero & The Vixen & the Vet) all great reads and am currently reading The Wright Brother. But now I think I’m gonna squirrel too and try your #8. Sounds soooo good!!!
Lol, sorry Maryse. Yes it was when Michelle S mentioned a book being sad and four it got everyone to one click, sorry. But hey, the Michelles got in on it too.
You have got to read one of your grumpy guy books. Hmm maybe a group read of the grumpy men. They have been popping up for a couple weeks.
Viper sounds fun. Michelle really liked Ten Below so I keep looking at it and Michelle S made Fate sound so fun.
You bet Jess!! Great idea. 😀
LOL MichelleS!!!
Okay i have to fix that, then…
Speaking of real angsty and heartbreaking books I saw a positive mention on a book blog about Wrecking Ball. I clicked on the link and was like, ok this looks like an Amy and Maryse book.
Now I wonder how many people think WIR made Amy really cry. Again sorry.:-I
Diane!! LOL! It always freaks me out to read books “like that” and try to review ’em for that same reason. 😛
LOL bev… I fixed it. Found another “bev” quote to use for it instead…
Yeah but first I wanna do the lover letters before the grumpy guys. At least, as of tonight. You know me and my book moods… 😀
Oooh… Good list. I’ve read 5 of the 20 and one-clicked a few! “You” looks pretty good – high price, but maybe it’ll go on sale 😉 So, I’ve read #s 1, 11, 12, 13, and 16. Just commented in the previous post about Heart of Light. I’m gonna read something light to recover from that one, but am struggling at what to choose. I saw that Virgin just went on sale for $1.99 (from $7.99) and I know people were looking forward to this one after Book Bash. Has anyone read it?
So many books, so little time!
But thanks to ya’ll, I did start the Fever series 🙂
When I start 1-clicking, I get into trouble – can easily spend too much! Also, I’ve found I have many unread books on my Kindle – wish they came with a summary on the Kindle so I could remember which book was which 🙂
Maryse, did you finish Sway? It didn’t take me long, pretty much devoured it.
Ugh! Wish I could remember how to change that picture of me. LOL
I’ve only read two, or one and a half. Written in Red was good, and different, though I loved the world building and the interactions between all the characters, that the romance became second. (You will even fall in love with the horses). Good story first, with a slow burn romance that has so much sweet.
The half… Blood and Roses series. I’m on book three. The story is very good and so intense, but I keep hoping it’ll go on sale. 😛 $2.99 is cheap, until you are buying seven books.
@Patty – I do have a budget! If not, I’d be poor with one clicks. I literally buy a gift card with however much I think will work, and use only that. (Price increasing depending on what will be released.). It makes me only get samples, and saves me from OMG amounts of TBRs.
Tessa I have considered doing that with the gift cards. I’ll be like it’s only .99, but that adds up fast.
I also still use the library. There is a new/used bookstore that I used ti use a lot. They would get fast turnover on new pb because of store credit. So I could by the new book for half off within 2 weeks of release. Also if it is a series and you can wait the preceding books usually go way down.
Well we have similar tastes Maryse since I own 10/20 on that list 🙂 plus I’ve wish listed quite a few more. You all know I think WiR is fantabulous so don’t forget that one in the never ending lists! The other stand out for me is Ten Below Zero. I love the angst but do not want to be completely destroyed at the end of a book (usually…) and that one fits the bill. The next one for me from this list I think will be A Natural Act – that one just looks very interesting and different.
Is it weird (sheddup peanut gallery) that I want to read Ten Below Zero – and Unlit Star for that matter – because I know I’ll get gutted and then Rules Regarding Gray because the angst will make me all splotchy, all following 53 Letters which I’m pretty sure is going to punch me in the ovaries? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. 😉
Amy is it weird that I want to read that exact same list for those exact same reasons? LOL!
Oooh 53 Letters is next on my list too.
I utterly ADORED Away – super sweet and had me sobbing like a big baby. Need tissues, that’s for sure!
Loved Deviant in the Blood & Roses series, too. Can’t wait to start the next one.
I have to disagree about Written in Red. I read it as per all the good suggestions on here, and didn’t love it. The characters, powers, and landscapes were interesting, but I kept hoping for a different plot. Maybe I like more romance.
I loved 53 Letters for my Lover! I couldn’t put it down!!!
Maryse, great list of blurbs that have also made me want to squirrel! 😉
Maryse and Amy, I love/hate those books too. What I hate is if I go thru all that emotional and physical turmoil and it has a “bad” ending.
When I looked at the blurb of You- “perversely romantic thriller” I thought I’m in, until I saw the price. Will wait to see reviews first or if it goes on sale. 🙁
I highly recommend Pretty Instict…most definitely in my top three for 2014!!!!
Ps anyone watch the wedding episode of Outlander?!?! Words cannot express……………….
Pretty Instinct…….(spelled it wrong as I’m still drunk from the Outlander episode!
I read Pretty Instinct- was good, but I don’t think it was a sob-fest and it was not your typical Rock star story.
Why oh why did I read the list?!!! My TBR is actually short, but I will add a few that sound super interesting. Thanks!
The Rules Regarding Gray….so different and soooo good! Very angsty which I love! It might not make my top 5 or 10 list but it was still really good!
I shouldn’t be reading this list either. I can’t keep up. So many older recommendations that I am reading now – I’ve been reading Love Unscripted non stop since Friday night. I wasn’t using my library as much as I used to since getting my ipad a few years ago but now I need to use it more to keep my budget in line.
Ok, I need something anti-angsty. Something very funny, but sexy. Bright Side slayed me.
Woo-hoo! Weird is the norm here then!! Well..er…for some of us. *giggle*
Finished The Wright Brother (really good!) and started 53 Letters, which so far at 25% is good with a buildup between the past and present which is pacing well. I love having weekends like this where I can read as much as I want to! 😀
I’m lagging behind with the Wright Brother. I am trying so hard to make myself finish. It’s just kind of that “almost there” book for me. The palm signing and writing on each others’ backs is making me squirrelly. And the “tapping”? What is that? Morse code? I’m confused. And the skipping ahead weeks and months for no apparent reason. So much potential. I may squirrel away from it though to check out Fabi’s m/m meets TTM 5-star doozy.
I guess I am just not on the same bandwagon. Or maybe it left and I missed my ride. Lol. The only one I’ve read from the above list is Written in Red. I looooved the characters and the world building. I can tell the series is going to get even better. But other than than that one, I don’t think I have any others that match on my tbr or wish list (yet)
Oops I lied. I have Fate Book and Deviant on my tbr. Deviant is pictured but not mentioned. So maybe I’m just hanging on to the wheel of the bandwagon. I’m picking my reads from the lists and recommendations here but I seem to be in a different reading “mood” than most.
I squirreled from The Wright Brother and read Sins and Needles from my tbr list, and LOVED it!! Amy I think you and Jean rec’d this one. Can’t wait to start On Every Street!
Fabi – I picked Bad Things for my next read. I’m only at 15% now. Whoa… it’s going to be a good one, I can tell. Gritty. Painful. A whole lot of discomfort. Good writing. He reminds me of Evan Arden. Love the storyline about vengeance for his sister. I even like that he “doesn’t f*ck women”… and that his tastes run dark and twisted and to other men…. just all of it. Wow. Great recommendation so far. He’s a hell of a character! And the fact that he’s so big and tatted up and has so so so much attitude. I’m squirming al lover the couch reading this one.
I squirreled from the Wright Brother at about 70% and from Sway at about that percentage too.
*sigh*
Good writing and all, but I need more emotional action, angst and passion and intensity, right now. May pick ‘me back up later.
So now I’m trying 53 letters.
MichelleS every time you think that book has given you all it gives more. All the way through. I was at 95% and still freaking out over new things. Whew. What a book. I’m directly on to another one of this author’s works.
I know I need to stop rambling about these books. But I almost can’t help myself. I’m at only 7% of Dangerously Happy and already so invested in the characters. This writer has some magic that puts you into the characters minds. Makes you feel exactly what their feeling. Their confusion, their fear. You’re right there with them trying to make the right decision.
Unless you are grossed out by the m/m aspect of these stories, I highly recommend them. This author has magic writing skills.
Like Maryse, my first non-icky introduction to the m/m scene was with Sherilyn Kenyon. I’ve read 3 or 4 of these now and maybe I’ve been fortunate, but the love stories transcend the gender of the characters. Something about women authors writing about men falling in love adds that emotion that makes it a romance regardless of who is involved.
I wasn’t quite at the point MichelleS was with being kind of tired of the same ‘ol because I was lucky enough to read a couple of great PNR recommendations recently. But, like Maryse, I’ve been squirrelling away from a few reads lately. For some reason, it really frustrates me when I do that.
So these books really hit the spot at a perfect time.
Maryse said, “Good writing and all, but I need more emotional action, angst and passion and intensity, right now.”
Angst, emotional action, passion, INTENSITY you say? you have got to join in on reading Bad Things, Fabi’s 5-star doozie of a book! WOW. It’s got that IT that I needed….. no formula book here! I bet you’re hooked in 10 pages!
MichelleS…
Bad Things from R.K. Lilley? ‘Cause I have read that series… or is it that new dark one that just came out?
Fabi – my first m/m “non-icky” was also in a PNR – BDB’s Blay and Quinn…. and Thomas in Scansguard’s vamps…. and Jean Claude and Asher in Anita Blake series…. and they were H.O.T.
The m/m/ aspect of Bad Things is totally not an issue. If it’s well written, I don’t care who is “together” – just write it well and yo’ve got me. This is written well. 🙂 …… great recommendation, seriously….
Fabi – I’m like you… except I just started, but feel the need to talk about it with someone. It’s THAT kind of book. Sure there is sex… dirty sex… but it’s not the central plot… and at the same time it is…. because of the sleazy backdrop of the club and that rape 9 years ago and the possible human trafficking. It’s an exploration of this intense character so far. What makes him tick. There isn’t even a “love interest” at this point. There may never be. Who knows? It’s not that kind of book. Just seedy, underbelly kind of world building. Freaking fantastic I tell ya’. I totally get the need to “vent” to someone. We may have to start a discussion thread or we’ll bore the others to death. It’s just so dang intense.
Okay – one more quick Fabi rant…… isn’t “the look” of it way cool? I know it’s all dark… but then his place is retro fifties with a fake leather turquoise sofa? I don’t know why details like that stand out, but they do. LOVE THAT (and what happens on that sofa!!!!)…… okay…. I’ll rant more later when I have time to actually read the book!!! I know I’ll need to.
MichelleS, I think I live you right now. I sooo needed someone to share this with. And girl, just wait. You won’t know if you even LIKE him at some points. You begin to wonder if he is the good guy or the bad guy. And does it resolve? Hmmm, let me tell you, I’ve done nothing but read the entire weekend and the book was at the end I had no more fingernails left and no sleep for two days and I was STILL wondering. What a ride!
Now I’m very late to work on a very important day, can’t possibly come up with a way to miss work today, but I can’t, just can’t, pull myself away from another of her books.
Sweet mommy dearest, I thought I was becoming jaded from reading too much. Losing interest in books. Either not finishing or picking up and putting them down over and over. Well, I was just riding the wave until this author crashed into my life. I don’t care if she writes about men, women, or pretty yellow daisies, I’m reading all her freaking works.
No, Maryse, this is Bad Things by Varian Krylov. On your list two lists ago I think.
I’m at 70% of 53 Letters, and I have no idea how this is going to end. It’s definitely not on an Arsen level, but I’m still a little apprehensive as to if/when it is all going to blow up. Bracing myself here…
Aw, Maryse…one of those book weekends, huh? I thought Wright Brother was pretty good, but it’s definitely not a book for when you are craving a lot of intensity and angst…especially when your tolerance to those is high. 😉 Hope 53 Letters works for ya!
Yes, the Dark one I initially said I’d be interested in reading.
MichelleS, I’m afraid Blah and Quinn will always be my favorite m/m couple. You know we always reserve a special place for our firsts. 😉
Blay*
Ladies, again, IF m/m doesn’t ick you out. Download the sample of Bad Things. Once you read even the first few pages, you’ll be hooked. And BOY does it get better and better and better as it goes on,
I.have.to.stop.
But MichelleS, isn’t that early sofa scene so ALPHA. I mean really, to alpha over an alpha has got to be the most intense peek.
Yes *peek* and pun intended
I have the majority of these books downloaded but have only read Away which I loved. Thinking I need Rules of Protection right now after Crazy Good and The Wright Brother or maybe something dark. I know, totally opposite genres!
Oooo I just finished I want it that way it was good tearfull also *sniff* really liked it and I love the whole single parent thing even when it’s the girl that’s the single parent and the guys are so sweet with the kids u should make a list of those books maryse maybe even entitle it mummy porn lol there is nothing more sigh worthy
Jean – something dark, eh? Well…. this fabulous book Fabi found is dark dark dark! Reminds me of all the good ones: Mud Vein, The Tied Man, Captive in the Dark….. it has that flavor, that feeling.
Fabi – I had a pet emergency, so I didn’t get too much further – but things are getting whacked! Hello enema, if you know what I mean. How do you even begin to talk about this with no spoilers? I just keep replaying scenes over and over in my head. It’s so twisted. Can’t wait to find out why he is the way he is and why Carson is the way he is. And I want to do bad bad things to the Ukranians!!!! You guys…. you HAVE to read this if you want dark!
Maryse – it is the new one, not the Tristan and Danika “Bad Things” – the one by V Krylov.
I am definitely going to need romantic comedy after this so I don’t permanently damage my romance meter!!!! FABI…!!!! You are so bad for recommending this.
MichelleS, it is difficult if not impossible to talk about that book without giving away spoilers. I found it easiest to just talk about the feelings it evoked. I think you will do just like I did and immediately go to her previous book. It’s hard to get enough of this author’s writing. Even comparing her to Colleen Hoover, who I have read entirely, I don’t remember this overwhelming need to stay in the world this woman builds. I missed a very important day at work yesterday and am borderline about to miss the most important day of the year at work today if I can’t somehow put this next book down and get out of the house. I want to talk about it so bad but fell like I’m cluttering up Maryse’s blog. Especially with this one that wasn’t on one of the lists.
Deacon day!!!
Michelle, if you’re reading the basement then let me assure you it changes. I wouldn’t have been able to read a 400 page book otherwise. It sooo changes and keeps changing all the way to the las succulent last pages.
…replaying scenes? I’m still doing that. AND some pages I found myself reading over and over again.
I want to write a review on Amazon but this one can’t be just “I really loved it” it’s so much more than that. For this one, I wish I had Maryse’s skill.
Just finished Falling In by Lydia Michaels last night, and I loved it!! It has that feel of angst, and “what the heck??”, and it had me laughing at many different parts…so…bought the 2nd book this morning and can’t wait to start it!!
Fabi!!!
By all means… talk like crazy about the books you love. I LOVE your enthusiasm for Bad Things, and I’m definitely going to read it. I’m missing out!!!
Comment all you want, you guys. It’s how we get to hear about the good stuff!
OMG the blood and roses series would have to be one of the best I have ever read. Zeth. mmmmm
