Want a peek into my iPad Kindle app? These are the latest books that are tickling my fancy!!
From angsty and/or deep “new adult” reads, sob-inducers (forget tear-jerkers! ;)) to a couple of highly recommended (I can just tell these are gonna be for me) paranormal ADULT reads. Oh yes… I just know I’m gonna fall hard. Plus some rock star reads, bad-ass bikers, dystopian and a few “Stockholm Syndromes” to boot, I think I’m covering all of my reading moods with these.
But of course… you know me. *squirrel*!!!
It takes just a second for me to switch from a steady TBR list where I’m making progress, to completely messing it all up and throwing in one or two that weren’t even on my radar! Whether it be an adamant deep-down-LOVED-it recommendation that gives me the chills, or a new release with a synopsis that gives me a must-read-now *jolt*.
But I’ve made good progress on my latest TBR lists (and of course they’ve changed a bit through the course of the last month or so) but I made a dent in ’em, and now this is what I’m going to play with. For now. 😉 (and I’ve linked ’em up on Amazon in case you want to try this list with me).
No real rhyme or reason to the order. Just what I’m in the mood for, today. Tomorrow, I could totally change #8 to #1. What is it about these that have my attention?
- TRAGIC: Rook and Ronin, #1 by J.A. Huss <— models in love! I hear this one is awesome (and while the synopsis interested me immediately, it was the enthusiastic response from my fellow readers that got me).
- The Breakaway by Michelle Davidson Argyle <— kidnapped!! But this is what got me: “…when faced with the chance to escape, Naomi isn’t sure she wants to take it.” <– update: was reading this (at about 50%) and it’s good but I’m needing more intensity when it comes to a book of this genre. Wondering if it “picks up” in that respect. I’ll let you know.
- Seize Me (Breakneck Series) by Crystal Spears <— gritty biker MC book!! Need I say more?
- Shocking Heaven (Room 103) by D H Sidebottom <— singer for a band and no-nonsense college girl is into him…
- Defiance by Stephanie Tyler <— bikers in a dystopian world! I hear it’s awesome! Lindsay said: “…definitely multi-layered and angsty to the max.”
- Fighting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles) by Amelia Hutchins <— I hear SOOOO good. NOT YA and Donna says: “…this one is a keeper! :)”
- The Mourning After by Adriane Leigh <— just something about this one that made me think a deep and rich story potential.
- Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey <— and then something super funny that would still make me swoon. I hear he’s a super-sexy cowboy and is as addicting as our favorite book boyfriends. Lauren said: “I really really LOVED shine not burn…”
- Of Love & Regret by S.H. Kolee <— I really enjoyed another book by this author and I have a feeling this one takes some risks. I’m good with that!
- Thrilling Heaven (Room 103) by <— I guess it all depends on how much I enjoy book #1, but I remember a great reaction by my fellow readers when this book was released, so I bought ’em both at the same time.
- Captured – A Romance by Elizabeth Boiling <— family woman kidnapped!! Need I say more? But when I saw this on the synopsis: “… will Meredith instead become entangled with her kidnapper in a way she could never have expected?” I thought OH NO!!! (eep!!) 😉 Not much by way of reviews, so we’ll see. It’s only a little over 100 pages and I’ve been staring at it for a few weeks now. It’s time.
- Extinguish by J.M Darhower <— a new paranormal short story by author of Sempre, so right there you know it has my attention. I LOVED that book. And while I don’t read as much paranormal as I used to, it would appear this is one that is HIGHLY loved by those that do read it. Millie said: “I read “Extinguish” by J. M. Darhower and i LOVED it ! I cried like a baby at the end ! It’s the first paranormal book for this author and she totally rules !” – shoot. Now I want to move this one to the top.
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green <— It’s as if the WHOLE world loves this book and I believe this will be truly unforgettable for me. I’m still a bit nervous… but also super excited. Gotta pysch myself up and get a few extra boxes of tissues.
- Damaged and the Knight by Bijou Hunter <— I really enjoyed #1’s romantic angst and intensity, and I hear book #2 is soooo much better. So it’s a must on my reading list!
- Out Of Breath (The Breathing Series, #3) by Rebecca Donovan <— don’t even know what I’m waiting on for this, as much as I loved book #1 & #2, and how desperately I’ve been waiting for this one. And all I hear is it’s AWESOME!
- Obsession (The Talisman series) by Sofia Grey <— this one sounds cool. Kind of paranormal ’cause he’s a PI hired by the rich to see if their spouses are cheating. What’s the paranormal aspect? He can read minds (which nobody knows). And while he discovers that his next subject (a sweet, soft spoken woman) is not cheating, he does learn why she’s so unhappy. Her husband is abusive and stifling and the PI gets too close… evil husband won’t let her go.
- P.S. I just added TWO more after making this list and am already almost done with one, and will likley be moving the next two new additions to the top of my TBR list. I’m too excited, so here are my last minute add-ons that are now at the top of my TBR:
- Bully (Fall Away #1) by Penelope Douglas <— I’m almost done and it’s pretty darn good! Kind of predictable (so far) but enjoyable nonetheless.
- Shark Bait (Grab Your Pole, #1) by Jenn Cooksey <— book #3 finally came out yesterday and now I get to start this series. I hear that even if it’s YA, it’s mature and AWESOME and some are telling the 3rd book is the best one yet (even though the other two are great). Can’t wait!!
Is that for this month? I’ve got 11 to read by the 15th…
GAH Kirsten! LOL! Not really but, I’ll try of course. My fav is to read 3-4 books a week .. so… maybe? 😉 Wouldn’t THAT be something. If I don’t let my *squirrel* brain get out of hand… 😉
Read SH Kolee. 🙂 You really should add Bully to your TBR List. <3
I read most of the Breakaway already but at 50% put it down for now… good writing, but I’m not feeling the intense connection or fear that I like to with these kinds of books. For now I’m needing something crazier in that aspect…
I’m almost done Bully (and it’s there). 😉
Well I really should have scrolled all the way down. LOL. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I think my next book hangover will be Wethering the Storm, because Hello!! It’s JAKE!
Shocking Heaven is soo good! Super intense, both Eve and Jax have some major issues and there are some parts to their story that are truly shocking! Pulse the chemistry……ghaaa! Love, loved it!!
I commented on your Fb page(not on the post about this, just on your page), but I’m not sure if you read those. You have to add Unteachable by Leah Raeder to your list! I think ou would really like it. It’s so beautifully written, with amazing imagery, descriptions and interesting characters all around. It is a standalone, and I thought it was so refreshing to read such a descriptive, engaging story that had a beginning, middle and end in one book.
It’s about a hs senior and her teacher. They meet before school starts, but that’s the only similarity between this and other teacher/student books. I thought it was interesting and unique. There is a whole storyline along with their relationship, and plenty of the physical stuff too. Just an all around good, satisfying read. You will love the story and the gorgeous writing!
I have been hearing rave reviews about Unteachable. Reading soon.
I wish my kindle app looked as neat and organized as that! Mine is all over the place. I wish they would allow you to bucket stuff or create folders! Bully definitly a good read, just finished Otherwise Occupied so next on my list is The Breakaway and Janes Melody and I still haven’t read Left Drowning. That one I need to prepare myself for or so I have heard!
Rachel, I am SO on that. Consider it another of my *squirrel* moments right here and right now right before your eyes! LOL! That is TOTALLY up my alley!
I put a lot of effort into organizing this list (’cause Kindle app not so “user-friend’y” when it comes to organization) and already i’ve messed it up since I took that screen shot.
😉
I just finished shark bait today and it was ah-may-zing! You are going to love it
I really liked Shine not Burn and Extinguished.
You might want to add Unteachable by Leah Raeder. This is so well written and an “unputdownable” read for Me! 🙂
Just finished Tragic! Loved it!!! Liked the 2nd too!
Oops… I just saw the comment from Rachel. Guess I am not the only one hooked 😉
I have read a lot of those and they are great choices. But you have to add Fixed on You (fixed #1). I just finished it last night and it is amazing. So good and the lead Hudson is to die for. You won’t be able to put it down.
Thank you for this! So far I read a little over 100 books this year and my picks all came from you. I can add more to my list now!
I hate the kindle app. It is soooo not user friendly. Why don’t they set it up so we can sort things? The other apps do.
Wish I could just take a sabbatical for at least one year and just read to my hearts content. I’m so happily overwhelmed by all these wooonderful options. I never seem to stick to my tbr list. Trying to decide right now what series I want to devour for beach vaca next week. Original Sinners or Up in the Air series maybe???
Loved the Damaged Books and also liked Shocking Heaven (but I am a socker for Rock Star books!!)
Maryse – I just discovered your blog a month ago but I have no idea what I did before then! Your recommendations are amazing!! From your TBR list I’ve read Bully and Of Love and Regret. Bully was pretty good although it didn’t have me staying up all night to finish it, but I would still recommend it. Of Love and Regret surprised me because I wasn’t expecting to be sucked in like I was. I started it thinking it was a typical romance but it was so much more than that! Talk about angst! But in a good I-want-to-scream-but-I-can’t-stop-reading kind of way! I love those kinds of books where I feel so invested and connected to the characters and I’ve discovered so many books like that through your blog!
I also want to thank you for introducing me to Tarryn Fisher’s books. AMAZING!! I had a few sleepless nights because of those books!
You must read “Heat” by R. Lee Smith. Darkest erotic horror story ever. Read the Goodreads reviews. It is an amazing book.
I have been reading Defiance and I am pretty disappointed in the plot and writing. I totally dig post apocalyptic stories and who doesn’t like bad boy bikers! I thought it would be right down my alley. It’s just meh. I have been following your blog for over a year and this is the first dud I have come across. 🙁 HOWEVER, I did put down Defiance and picked up LICK: Stage Dive #1 — one word: SWOOOON!
The whole Grab Your Pole series is awesome! Be thankful you weren’t stuck with the cliffhanger in the second book.
Ack! No sooner do I get and start reading the recommendations I got off your last few blog/FB posts, then you come out with a list like this one with stuff I just gotta have NOW. 🙂
Just wanted to say I really love your blog and I so appreciate all your reviews and book lists. I was originally a huge fan of paranormal romance but you’ve helped me branch out. All the best to you, Victoria
*Hug* I’m so glad we are all sharing the same “TBR list” problem. It’s a good problem to have! 😀
I feel the same about The Fault in Our Stars. Loved, loved, loved Out of Breath. Like Thief, great end to an angsty series.
You will love Seize Me. Great, great book. I just started Otherwise Alone. Oh my! I hope I get to sleep tonight.
I really enjoyed fighting destiny! Definately NOT YA! lol And it ends on a massive cliffhanger BUT the next one is out this month!
I can’t believe you read 3-4 books a week! I wish I could do that! My TBR list stresses me out a bit sometimes, I have all these great books and no time to read them!! lol
I loved Fighting Destiny, it was different and such a well written book. I loved it so much I contacted the author to see when the next would come out because *beware* it ends on a cliffhanger!
I knew I would be in trouble when I looked at this post! Please tell me you have more books on your TBR list because I do and now I have to add more …thanks to you of course!
I knew I had a problem, but I think it’s worse than I thought!!
Shark Bait and Fighting Destiny are Fantastic reads. But the Grab YourPole series has easily become one of my favorites
I loved Shine not Burn… so hilarious and sweet. If you love sexy cowboys ( I sure do!), check out The Six Pack Ranch series by Vivian Arend. They’re Rocky Mountain Canadian cowboys (woo- even better!!) She also writes adult paranormal novels.
Love this list except now I don’t know which one of them to read first!
I LOVE seeing a screen shot of your Kindle! Obviously, we are all going through the same thing with our TBR lists and rearranging constantly (especially based on your reviews)! You really have to read Out of Breath….what a great story!! Shine Not Burn was a cute, quick read! Love hearing everyone else’s recommendations too – thanks!
Out of Breath – Great wrap up to the series! Bully was one of my favorites. The Grab Your Pole series is one of my favorites recently. I’m looking forward to reading the 3rd book now. Shine Not Burn was cute but didnt WOW me. I did find it funny and it was a quick read for me. I’m excited to see what some of the others you listed are about. I agree with a lot of you that I wish you could organize more with the Kindle. Don’t they understand us TYPE A people who want to have their books where they belong!
I totally agree with you on Breakaway. You MUST read Fighting Destiny though. I read it a few months back and loved it. I think I mentioned it on your Facebook page. Thank you for sharing your TBR because I am rarely disappointed by your recommendations.
The fault in our Stars!!! I had this one on my TBR for a while and finally read it. I loved, loved, loved it! It blew me away, like Left Drowning I am thinking about it days later. I highly recommend you read it….but make sure the Kleenex is near by 🙂
Tragic was Aahhhmazing and I think you should put Shine Not Burn higher on your list-one of my favs!!! Reading Complete Me now and then onto Get Bent, which I am dying for! Oh, how I love thee Turner Campbell-what a bad boy!
Maryse what would we do without you?!?!?! My bank account is having a good run right now 🙂
Have you already read Fever and Brush from Maya Banks? It is a “50” kind of serie but in each book you learn about a different character and the storyline is everytime different. I loved them both!
Maryse! I must say I read “the breakaway”, and I wasn´t very…how can I say… motivated to continue, but I did it anyway… And, after reading both books, I really liked it!
Maryse, when you feel like laughing out loud, crying, catching yourself smiling with a story and falling in love with a sexy cowboy, read Shine not Burn. Excellent read! I can’t remember the last time a book made me laugh to the point that DH asks what’s going on.
Also finished Left drowning and loved it. You know that feeling that you don’t want a book to end, you would like to have a permanent window showing life going on, cause you’re sure you’d enjoy it? That’s how I felt. There’s no cliffhanger, although there is space for a sequel, it’s just that awww, I want more.
Now I’m 39% into Fear of Falling and having trouble putting it down for anything.
Seize Me and Fighting Destiny were WONDERFUL.
Still working on the others. My Goodreads “to read” list is now at 116 books.
Help!
