This is a recent contribution by Dina, on an older list that I posted a few years ago, of the books that have “stayed with me” all of my reading life (and not just this most recent reading-frenzy books that I go crazy over now). These are the ones that “made” me a life-long reader.

Maryse’s own personal note: Some sure-fire classics on this particular list (OMG the Thorn Birds BLEW MY MIND when I was… what? 7 or 8 years old?? Yes, I was allowed to watch that crazy drama on TV and was HOOKED and don’t even get me started on Flowers in the Attic. Again… another read that I read maybe wayyyyyy tooooooo young and maybe was a bit too much for a young teen, but that I devoured).

- Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
- The Sinners on Tour Boxed Set by Olivia Cunning (erotica – read after Fifty Shades which I loved but these I would read again too before Shades)
Oh, that is an AMAZING list. I really want to read Gone With The Wind Again. And The Thorn Birds . . . Epic! Oulander will always be my favorite. James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser has ruined me. And The Sinners? They are so addicting. Twilight was such a good ride. I barely remember Flowers in the Attic, but I know it had an impact on me.

Omg I read Gone With The Wind 13 times when I was like 12. That was my very first re-read book. I also remember Flowers in the Attic very well. Woohoo! My first WTF? book. Outlander I have read once but got bored (so sorry) and quit about 2/3 through. I did however watch the first season of the series and it was fabu! the romance was screen magic. And Twilight is magical no matter how old you are.
YES! I read VC Andrews when I was about 12 or 13… anyway… it stayed with me for YEARS. It was just so controversial and creepy and very exciting for a 12 year old. Many years later, Outlander was the same – I slept and ate and lived that crazy book. Have reread it so many times. Great list!

Great list with some well-loved classics. A more recent read that has stuck with me is The Turning Point by Freya North (2015). Wonderful read, about a woman from England who by chance meets a man from BC (Canada) and they find ways to be together in spite of the challenges. Slowly builds and packs a POWERFUL EMOTIONAL PUNCH. After I finished it (a couple of months ago) It kept me awake that night, and I kept thinking about it for days. Randomly found myself thinking about it again last night. A book I won’t easily forget.
