This is a recent contribution by Dina, on an older list that I posted a few years ago, of the books that have “stayed with me” all of my reading life (and not just this most recent reading-frenzy books that I go crazy over now). These are the ones that “made” me a life-long reader.
You’re gonna see some oldies but goodies on these lists (today… and upcoming!!)
Maryse’s own personal note: Some sure-fire classics on this particular list (OMG the Thorn Birds BLEW MY MIND when I was… what? 7 or 8 years old?? Yes, I was allowed to watch that crazy drama on TV and was HOOKED and don’t even get me started on Flowers in the Attic. Again… another read that I read maybe wayyyyyy tooooooo young and maybe was a bit too much for a young teen, but that I devoured).
BUT!!!! You’ll find some recent ones, too. 🙂
Dina: It was so hard to limit it to ten because I have re-read many classics too!
- The Black Swan & Moss Rose by Day Taylor
- Love’s Tender Fury (The Marietta Danver Trilogy Book 1) & Dare to Love by Jennifer Wilde
- The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- Flowers In The Attic (Dollanganger Book 1) Series by V.C. Andrews
- Outlander Series – Diana Gabaldon
- Bitten: A Novel (Otherworld Book 1) by Kelley Armstrong (made me fall in love with paranormal books)
- Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
- Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
- The Sinners on Tour Boxed Set by Olivia Cunning (erotica – read after Fifty Shades which I loved but these I would read again too before Shades)
Oh, that is an AMAZING list. I really want to read Gone With The Wind Again. And The Thorn Birds . . . Epic! Oulander will always be my favorite. James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser has ruined me. And The Sinners? They are so addicting. Twilight was such a good ride. I barely remember Flowers in the Attic, but I know it had an impact on me.
wow Dina, I’ve read 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8. I love your taste. *snicker*
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is amazing! Great read.
Omg I read Gone With The Wind 13 times when I was like 12. That was my very first re-read book. I also remember Flowers in the Attic very well. Woohoo! My first WTF? book. Outlander I have read once but got bored (so sorry) and quit about 2/3 through. I did however watch the first season of the series and it was fabu! the romance was screen magic. And Twilight is magical no matter how old you are.
YES! I read VC Andrews when I was about 12 or 13… anyway… it stayed with me for YEARS. It was just so controversial and creepy and very exciting for a 12 year old. Many years later, Outlander was the same – I slept and ate and lived that crazy book. Have reread it so many times. Great list!
Dian great list. I’ve read 3,4,5,6. Love Outlander and can’t wait for the series to come back on TV!
Great list with some well-loved classics. A more recent read that has stuck with me is The Turning Point by Freya North (2015). Wonderful read, about a woman from England who by chance meets a man from BC (Canada) and they find ways to be together in spite of the challenges. Slowly builds and packs a POWERFUL EMOTIONAL PUNCH. After I finished it (a couple of months ago) It kept me awake that night, and I kept thinking about it for days. Randomly found myself thinking about it again last night. A book I won’t easily forget.
