Here’s more that just went live!

Happy release day everyone! It’s the end of the month and it’s going out with quite a book-bang!! SO MANY awesome new books came out today, and from our favorite tried and true authors. AND AND!!! I found some new-to-us that sound just as exciting! Oh and don’t forget to check out yesterday’s Monday early bird book releases ’cause there were some big ones, in there!
<— Okay, and… that one up there to the left (Grin and Beard It) just sounds like my idea of reading-fun, because I too, have NO sense of direction. NONE. Maps? *shrug* Go north at the light? *blink blink* Er… I dunno. I think it’s genetic ’cause my mom and a few of my family members have the same problem. Anyway… LOL! A snippet from the blurb that had me grinning:
…she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the back roads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.
What else looks extra-good to me, today? Unrequited (in the bargains section, he steals the wife of a mafia head for himself… eeeeep!! And book #2 was just released today), Hooker (bad childhood until she was adopted but… she realizes there was more to it. With THAT title? I’m thinking things…), Hold You Against Me (a boy once saved her, and she thought he died, but now she realizes he might by a dangerous criminal), Unexpected Circumstances (just ’cause it’s Shay Savage – right off the bat – but also a historical? Instead of marrying the princess, he makes a political move and marries his maid… and she’s freaking out!!), Sweet Jayne (that blurb!! Listed as a dark taboo?? Three guys, they all are in her life for different reasons, but SHE might be the actual villain? I’m curious!). AND AND!!! I’m reading THIS ONE as we speak (The Butterfly Garden) and SO FREAKING EXCITED about it!! Psych-thriller!!!!
P.S. The bargain finds and reader recommendations are loaded in MY favorites, today!!! YAY!! I must insist on ’em… and I included my reviews. 😉 It’s like a who’s who of Maryse’s favorites from a few years ago that I STILL reminisce about. These set the standard. Or are a secure PART of the standard, of what makes up my favorites!

Have to say I was ready to read the Shay Savage book until I saw it is book one of three. Waiting for that to be complete on June 28th.
Finished Wicked Heart. I really enjoyed it, but not sure $9.99 worth. 😉
Maryse, Bittersweet (True North Book 1) by Sarina Bowen release date is June 14.
Sweet Gum Tree, The Opportunist, and Rainfall…three of my absolute FAVORITES all right next to each other and all full of beautiful angst and heartache!!!!
I’m not too far into The Butterfly Garden yet, but so far I *am* loving the writing style. Not too much homework tonight so I get to crack open a bottle of plum wine and get lost in the Garden. 😀 I better see you there, Maryse!

I’m there, Amy!!! I;ll be reading alongside you ‘n Fabi.
Fabi. You gonna be there?
I’m so sad that Stacked Up (Halston) is the last book of the series. It’s one of my favorite series. I’m hoping it ends with a bang!
Man, June 7th is going to be an awesome book release day. One True Loves, Idol, White Hot Hack!! I go from not knowing what to read to being overwhelmed with what to read first! Gee, what a problem to have! 😉
How come I can’t get my hands on The Butterfly Garden??? *taps foot loudly* Ha? Ha? WHY?
Ella James has a new one out. .99 today only
I think it’s on there, Theresa! It looks SO good, too!! 😀
Amy, everything I read about Learning to Breathe says to have a box of tissues ready for the ugly cry. An emotional rollercoaster ride. Sounds like your kind of story. Can be read as a standalone.
The rock star one, Cheryl? Where he finally has her join him in LA for good? That one intrigues me BIG TIME.
Ela, a couple of days ago, I got the Butterfly Garden free under the Kindle First program which is available for all Amazon prime members if you are prime. It was my first time using it. I guess they have 4 books available each month and that was one of its selections. I had never used this program before. Amazon has said it would be available under Kindle Unlimited as well. Hope this helps.
Thank you, Kathy!!! 😀
Ela you might still have time… or else it’ll just go live tomorrow.
Kathy are you buddy reading it with us?
Been busy for a few days and haven’t looked at Maryse’s new updates. Looks like there’re so many goodies to catch up on!.
I did try a sample of Lauren Gilley’s Tastes Like Candy (just out last week) and LOVED IT!! So I bought it and have dropped all of my other reading and dived into the dark and sca-ee MC world of Lauren Gilley.
Now I’ve gone back to the start with Fearless – book 1 in Gilley’s Dartmoor series. (Taste Like Candy is in a spin-off series). OMG. So good. Big, long, well-written meaty book a la Kirsten Ashley, believable (if scary!!) characters. Slightly taboo :-/ Main protagonists are seventeen and thirty when they first hookup eeeek! But so right for each other. There’s some violence too. :-/ But I’m luvvin these books and fully intend to read them all.
I’ve tried quite a few ho-hum MC series, and also some that are just TOO gritty and OTT for me. My favs (till now) are Jo Wylde and KA. But now I have a NEW FAVE. Yay me.
We loved Fearless, here!!! So glad you’ve discovered her, Jan130!
Thanks Maryse. So many goodies I would never have discovered without this group. 🙂
Oh man…there is some build up going on in Butterfly Garden, and when it’s revealed it is NOT going to be pretty.
Not. At. All.
But I am really, REALLY liking this book! 😀
Yes Maryse, I’ll squirrel over to it tonight once I settle down to read. I can never resist a buddy read. 🙂
Cheryl…it sounds PERFECT!! *hugs* for knowing me so well. 😉
Yep Maryse that’s the one. It intrigues and scares me. Might have to grab the tissues and start reading.
Yay Fabi!! Anyone else coming to frolic in the Butterfly Garden with us?
If it continues like it is now, holy moly! I’m gonna be GUSHING over this one. *fingers crossed* <—– though I don't think it will need that. 😉
Haha Amy, we were posting at the same time. Yep, I’m seriously thinking of reading it after I finish Wild Abandon. I so want to know what the devastating news/events are and I have a big box of tissues and just got a bottle of vodka that I’m going to mix with some lemonade. So all set for the blankie cave.
I’m not sure that is the type of garden one frolics in.
We can try, bev!!
Someone needs to put some aspirin, a big pitcher of water, and a plastic garbage bin in Cheryl’s blankie fort!!!!
And maybe we’ll make her some bacon and eggs tomorrow…
Ooh I love drunk reading because then you get to read everything all over again 🙂
I’m not sure what to think that that is a garden you want frolic in.
You’d so be the one in the movie that the audience screams at to not go in there, lol.
Ooooh, wasn’t that what your Mom recommended for hangover breakfast Maryse?! Yes, please!!
*in sing-song voice* How does your garden grow?!
Yep R! We (well, some of us ;)) love drunk reading…and then…and then…and then…
…we come on here and harass the sober people!!!! 😛
Oooooh, don’t forget the tomatoes wedges drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt and pepper to go with the bacon and eggs.
And hash browns!
Perfect hangover breakfast. 😀
Bleck, tomatoes are evil. :>
Maryse, I have never buddied readied before but I think this will be the book for me to try it!! I might be reading it during the day because the description scares me. Just have 50 pages left to finish the book I am reading now!! And then on to the Butterfly Garden!
Just finished The Butterfly Garden and OMG!! The writing was wonderful with a nice pace. Very unique storyline and a heroine the you feel for! Finished this book in one sitting. Loved it!
Read Tampa and Hollow…now I need something to wow me… Like blow my socks off (auto correct just tried to make that spanxs not socks, WTF???)
Blow your spanx off??? That would be some book. LOL.
I want THAT book!!! LOL!
Grey come frolic in the butterfly garden with us!!!!
Come on! It’ll be fun. *wicked giggle*
And yes bev… I would be the one everyone would scream DON’T OPEN THE DOOR!! DON’T LOOK UNDER THE BED!! DON’T INVESTIGATE THAT NOISE!!!!
Lol. Amy, would be all you go first Maryse.
And when you don’t come back Fabi would be like screw it I’m heading back to Texas.
Rainfall—is that the one that still keeps Fabi up at night?
Yes, yes it is Bev. I don’t think I’ve ever been —traumatized— by a book, until that one.
Speaking of…I just started The Butterfly Garden, and already, wow.
Omg Bev…*snort*
Hey, I tried to find a pink butterfly that would be Maryse in the Butterfly Garden…the closest is the Pink Glasswing.
So, Maryse is a Pink Glasswing butterfly.
And if you are reading (or have read) Butterfly Garden and have gotten to THAT part, then you know just how macabre that really is. *shudder* Still, I couldn’t resist. 😉
Fabi…right?? I am absolutely LOVING this one. The writing, how it is all unfolding, the perfectly-timed shifts between last and present…ALL of it is perfect for me.
If I had to use one word to describe it right now, it would be haunting.
Kinda like how Rainfall was for you. Oh wait…your word for that was traumatizing. 😛
Amy, TBG kind of reads like a movie doesn’t it? With the flashbacks?
Who else is frolicking in the Garden with us? Grey, Kathy? And Di-Ann is already way ahead of us and finished with it! 😀
I want to frolic but Fabi has me stuck on a raft with some hot dude named Bastian. And if he doesn’t let up soon I’m popping that bitch and drowning them both!
Yes, Fabi! That’s a good way of putting it. I like how there is the past, recent past (the garden), and the present.
And their whole…situation. I can’t stop playing a certain part on a loop in my head and it’s making my chest ache. ACHE. 😐
Ahhhhh, okay R…I get it. Bastian is quite the guy and easy to get wrapped up in.
Oh! Have you read Transcendence by her? Freaking amazing with an ending that had me crying bittersweet (mostly sweet) tears!
No, I haven’t! New author for me. I am *at this very second* typing the last sentence in my book *grin, grin, grin* so I’m reading less than I normally do. I keep pulling up the Kindle app on my laptop to check in with Bastain and Raine, then I curse myself for the distraction!
Oh my gosh R!!! A big, huge congrats!
Good for you, R!! 😀
I liked Surviving Raine, but I LOVED Transcendence. It was just so unique and emotional…yes, a caveman story with emotion! It’s one of the many I wish I could read for the first time all over again. *sigh*
Okay, last thing about BG before I get back to it…I do have a minor complaint. The situations she found herself in at 6, 7, 8, and what she had to do for herself at those ages? A little over-the-top bordering on unbelievable, but the rest is so GREAT that I am just rolling with it so…whatever! 😉
Thanks! I’m simultaneously crying and drinking martinis. And stalking Maryse’s blog!
Oh, I bet! Cheers girl. You majorly deserve it.
Thank you!!! It’s so exciting. 🙂
Rainfall and Sweet Gum Tree are two of my favs!
*whispers*
Good morning, ladies.
Congrats R, that’s must be an amazing feeling!
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the thought of reading BG. Is it a suspense, thriller, is there any romance? And most of all, Fabi, who was traumatized reading Rainfall- this one isn’t traumatizing??
Morning Bev!!
I can not wait to read Grin and Beard it! I have been sooo looking forward to it!
I’m at 17% Cheryl and it’s dark. I can’t imagine any romance coming through this type of plot. But, who knows. Authors surprise me all the time.
I can handle dark. Rainfall wasn’t dark. I can’t say much here due to it being a spoiler free zone. I realize I’m the only one who feels this way about it, but I honestly can’t believe the love that book gets. The more time that passes since I read it, the more it sinks into my soul like a hot, heavy stone.
So, Fabi when all were loving that book, Rainfall, I bought it. Then I was all….hmmm, looking at reviews. So I did it. I read the end.
I was like, um no, lol. I used to love soaps, and in those sure I’ll take that story line. But for the story I didn’t want to read the journey that ended like that.
Could be fun if ended in a different way?
Fabi, thanks. I get it about Rainfall. There have been a few books along the way that have surprised and upset me in how they progressed and still “hurt” when I think about them. Somewhat a case of the “what-ifs.”
Only 7 books this month.
Undecided & Rebel of the Sands were my favorites.
Congrats, R!
Thanks Cheryl and Bev! Still feels awesome, even without the martini!
I read more than I realized this month, 8 total, but 2 were novellas, so that’s probably more like 7. Unbreakable by Emma Scott was the standout for me. I still think about it. GREAT story…but not quite RUSH so I gave it 4 stars. But, for me that’s like 5!
Yes Bev, the journey was already high octane but with a different ending I might have been able to handle it.
*shakes head* I still can’t believe you jump to the end of a book. I can’t think of a single time I’ve done that. Even with my dnfs, I don’t go to the end of the book to “see”. I may need to try that.
I don’t even know what I read in May. Certainly no standouts. I’ll go check my GR list because I need to choose one for my monthly favorite.
R, I loved Rush and also How To Save a Life but have’t read Unbreakable, so I think I’ll be adding that to my tbr list. Have you also read Love Beyond Words?
Cheryl, I had to read it after Unbreakable to fix my book hangover lol. I liked it a lot too, but not as much. Unbreakable just got me. LBW is written completely different than her other books. It’s 3rd person and reminds me of Gabriel’s Inferno which I (5 star) loved, so it was a nice treat
I really need to get on here at night. Sounds like you all were nice and plastered. 😛 Either that, or the book is that intense. I’m gonna go with book.
Favorite in May? Probably Hidden Oracle? Apollo’s ego was just too funny. 🙂 How sad is it that I looked at GR and realized I only read twenty books? Then I realized, crap, 20 us not a lot? *pounds head*
Oh finally read Jay McLean’s Kick Push. Coast is up there for next week. All I gotta say is that Coast better do some mending big time!
Also, FINALLY started reading For You by Kristen Ashley. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m at 13% and I think I know who did it. I so hope I’m wrong. That’s way too early to know.
Oh Amy…Look what came in the mail today! I found an independent online book store that had the cover I wanted. And it’s signed! I’m going to try to post a pic! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/538813542901192296/
yokay, I looked at my May reads (can’t believe its June already) and it looks like I read 16 books. (wow Tessa, 20 with a vacation in the middle). Six of mine were 5 star for me, and while nothing blew me away, I did have two standouts:
A Kind of Truth (A Kind of Stories, #1) by Lane Hayes because I love, love, love rock star / music themes
and
Mr. and Mr. Smith (End of the Line, #1) by HelenKay Dimon because it brought the action scenes I like in books plus a good, angsty love story.
Good lord! I was all proud of my 9!! *hangs head in shame*
So much to catch up on!!
Jeez – 28 books read in May…
Crow and Reaper were 5* reads for me – I moved them up my TBR after seeing Bev rave about them – thank you Bev,
Glitter on the web would have been 5* with an epilogue but then I see Ginger has said there is going to be another one!! Yippee!
Goodness gracious Paula – 28 – I’m a little jealous
R – haha – If we ALL read 9 novels and FINISHED WRITING A BOOK in May, I think we’d be down-right proud of ourselves.
haha! I think writing was the easy part. Now comes the hard part…making cuts!
Eeew. Editing. 😛 That part is hard. Good luck! Also, as Fabi said. Don’t feel bad. You freaking wrote and read. 😀 I cant do that. The books distract me too much.
Amazing list! Thank you Maryse.
I am reading Angel of Redemption (its a pretty big book) and loving it so far! It took me out of my book slump so happy about that 🙂
Ya’ll, I am absolutely LOVING Angel Of Redemption!! My reading has been hit and miss the past 2 days due to kids, etc but when Im not reading it, I can’t wait to pick it back up. This book gives me all the feels-and I love that its almost 600 pages!!
So many amazing books. Waiting for the list. Diving into the new Jennifer Probst and waiting for Taylor Jenkins Reid to come out! Read 12 books in May and Wild Abandon was my favorite!!! Sway was amazing too.
Yep Cheryl…what Fabi said. BG is dark. Not dark like erotic dark, more like…well, Silence of the Lambs dark. No gore (yet) but just disturbing now that I’ve hit a certain part. And my heart actually aches for these girls…especially certain ones. 🙁
Whether it ends on a 5-star note or not, this one will stick with me for a while.
R!!!!!!!
I’m soooooo jealous but I am SO freaking excited for you!! Seriously, my heart just skipped a beat for you!!! 😀
You HAVE to let me know when you read it. *gets wine ready for R*
Can you believe it was signed!!?? I didn’t even know it! I think I paid like $8 or something stupid!
That is AWESOME!!! 😀
Ok! I’m finally reading the Butterfly Garden and WTF? I need support! I NEED TO HOLD HANDS AND NEED ANSWERS
Amy are you talking about the first *oomph* scene? ’cause OMG that was traumatic, albeit… strangely… poetic. UGH.
LOL!
AMY? SILENCE OF THE LAMBS DARK??? WHY DIDNT I SEE THAT POST EARLIER? IM SO HATING ALL OF YOU *points a shaking finger towards Maryse* IM SCARED
There are psychos and then there are psychos. Or should I say poetic psychos, and just psych-psychos?
Tee hee Ela!!!!
It’s fun!!! Er… in a creepy terror-psych-thriller kind of way.
Forge ahead, my friend. Let’s frolic amongst the butterflies. 😉
OH MY R. Renee!! What a find!!!!
*blinks* Silence of the Lambs dark? So basically psych thriller?
Geesh, I commented at the same time as Maryse. So uh, you all enjoy that one. *runs in the opposite direction*
I’m scared to forge ahead *whimpers* screw The frolicking
Jan!! So glad your reading and loving the Dartmoor series. I lost myself in Lauren Gilley MC land earlier in tbe year and Im all caught up and waiting for the release of Loverboy.
Havent read Snow in Texas or Tastes Like Candy yet…..but I think Bev read Snow and liked it.
Yay. Book love!!
The first *oomph*…the 21st birthday scene? Because THAT one was the first one to hit me hard. It was just…so…haunting. And yes, traumatic. Truth be told, it has been haunting me all day. 😕
I’m actually past that part now, but MAN…every new revelation is just like another sucker-punch to my gut.
And GAH! What *is* her role in all of this??? I am seriously addicted to this twisted mess right now.
I know reading isn’t a competition sport but Im feeling a bit envious and slightly intimidated by those of you who have cracked double book figures this month.
I just cannot find that much time to read….OR I’m just reading at old person pace. Yikes.
And I just can’t ignore an empty fridge and hollow hungry-eyed family waiting for me to feed them…..or even the dust bunnies under the sofa…in place of reading. It just has to be way down my list…after study work family blah blah blah. It sucks.
Feel like I should hand in my book nerd card for that confession 😉
So, I thought Maryse wrote, “strangely erotic” I’m reading everyone’s responses and….I’m like I don’t know what to do with that.
The Butterfly Garden is looking interesting. I did get it thru kindle first so I have no reason not to try it. I’m moving onto the second book in The Three series by KA. I liked the first one, didn’t love it, but it surely kept me reading. Heard the second book is better and I need to de-stress myself right now *digging around for some chocolate too*
Lisa, I t lit is like a book to two a day in some cases. That’s why I sometimes ask if people skim, lol. Cause I can’t do the math. Speed wise I’m just at average I think. It has to be speed reading. And some people can be so fast with that.
Awwww come on, Ela!! It’s creepy and haunting and traumatic but it’s SO good…just stick with it!
I say it’s like Silence of the Lambs because of the mind messery. No gore. No Guy trying to wear people’s skin. Just…despondency, yet with a smidgen of hope so it’s not overwhelming in how twisted the situation is. If that makes any sense. *snort* Maryse could definitely word it better than that. 😉
Yep Amy!! That’s the scene. OH. EM. GEE.
I read 2 to 3 a week, Lisa. But amongst those, I may have started/taste-tested 5 or 6….
*pushes Lisa’s book nerd card back to her* We have NO minimum reading requirements here. 😉
Er… okay um….
poetic terror.
LOL!!!! 😛
I agree with Amy… one a week or one a day or one a month… as long as we’re enjoying ourselves, we read at our own speed.
I’m just glad you do not find Silence of the Lambs type reads erotic.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
OH. EM. GEE. is right!
I just keep picturing…THAT…and the beautifully horrific nature of it. Those two words look so wrong next to each other, but I have NO other idea how to describe it.
Michelle!!! Come frolic in the garden with us! Maryse is a Pink Glasswing and I’m…well, I don’t know which one I am… *scratches head*
What do you mean, Bev? You didn’t find him tuckin’ the junk and dancing around to be erotic?? LOL!!!
Hey Lisa. Yeah, I’m right into it. Book love to the max. I think Fearless might have been my fav read for May. Tastes Like Candy is really great too. Candyman is hot *fans self*. But I haven’t been as hooked by Snow In Texas. About Mercy’s brother Colin, so still pretty hot *fans self again* but something about the setting didn’t sit right with me from the start and it just hasn’t been as awesome as the others. And Colin is a bit unsure of himself at times and not always that bada** alpha we love to love. Still a good read, though.
Without meaning to, I’ve been reading them out of order. I loved Walsh’s story as well (Dartmoor Bk 3 Skeleton King) but haven’t read Price of Angels Bk 2 yet LOL. So I’ve had some spoilers about books I haven’t read yet. Never mind. I am eagerly whipping through them all and also looking forward to Lover Boy even though I haven’t even read all the others yet LOL. There is also another Lean Dogs on the cards, I believe. Sweeeeet. 😀
Amy I always loved Monarchs… I don’t get to see enough of those. Can you be that? To me THAT is the majestic lion of them all. THE epitome of “butterfly”
Poetic terror. *points at Maryse* See, told ya. 😉
bev… I liked his lotion in the basket.
Ooooh Amy! But a Swallowtail butterfly is beautiful.
And ummm… you know. That name is sure to entice and “Amy-type” snort-reaction.
THAT’S IT!!! You’re a SWALLOWTAIL!!!!!
Tessa so glad you’ve picked up KA’s burg series. I loved For You, but the second book, At Peace, would have to be one of my favourite KA’s ever. Such fantastic characters, and such a beautiful story. Made my cry at some very emotional moments, but had the beautiful HEA.
Well crap… I didn’t read anything last night… I got.. um, busy… LOL.
I just noticed, Je Suis a Toi is out… yay!!! Q and Tess, oh man, I may have to do a re-read of this whole set. I Floved these books so freaking hard…
But, you all are saying the magic words! Butterfly Garden is a dark too?!?
I need something NOT stressful Amy but I will frolic/run thru the garden soonish. I think these butterflies are cool: https://www.lovethesepics.com/2013/03/gorgeous-glasswing-butterflies-42-stunning-photos/
I get to be the monarch?!? *squeals and bounces on balls of feet*
Yeah, their wings are “loud” in their pattern and color and just seem to scream “look at me!!!” Fitting. *snort* 😛
Wait for it….
Wait. For. It….
OOOOH!! I was typing when you posted your comment, but…
YES!! I AM A SWALLOWTAIL!!!!!
LOL!!!!
Oooh, excited about Kristen Callihan’s Idol. First in a news series. A rock star!! Yes! Blurb sounds awesome. I liked the game on series, so I’ve boldly one-clicked a pre-order.
*snort*
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! 😛
Swallow…tail.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! It ain’t as pretty as that butterfly, THAT’S for sure!! 😛
You guys and your crazy conversations. Makes me smile on a wintry Aussie morning. Yeah, its winter here! Good reading weather in front of the fire. 😉
Michelle…those photos are breathtaking. 😀
*giggle* Glad we could cheer up your chilly day, Jan! Although, wintertime is wonderful reading weather… 😉
Grey!! You gotta join us! It is dark and yet still has a beauty to it. Not gonna even consider what that says about me thinking that way…
Amy, have you ever seen House of a Thousand Corpses? By Rob Zombie? Your comment makes me think of that. I called it “beautiful gore” because it’s a horror movie, but it’s filmed like it’s art.
OMG it’s WINTER!!!! There.
*snuggles next to Jan130’s crackling fire*
OMG AMY!!!
I was gonna say the same thing!!! That I think some moments are so heartbreaking and touching… and that it’s poetic and terrifying… what does that say about me?
YIKES!!!

Yeah Lisa, you just read when you can at different stages in your life. I had a few crazy years when my 3 sons were younger when I read very little except the front page of the daily newspaper LOL. (If that!) But when the kids started growing up, my reading time started slowly coming back. 🙂 God, I remember those mornings, when everyone was nearly in the car to go to school/work, and one of the boys would say, ‘Mum, I can’t find my school tie, or my left shoe, or … ‘ (you fill in the dots). The whole family would have to search for the missing item. Actually, in a way, I kinda miss those crazy days. *sighs*
So don’t be intimidated. You just read when you get a chance, and juggle everything with the rest of your life 🙂
You know what it says about us?
Great and twisted minds think alike!! 😀
But seriously, the dark beauty of it is addictive…
No, R…NOOOOO!!!
House of 1000 Corpses was HORRID!! I felt awful and sick while watching it. Kudos to you though for seeing the art in it. 😉
House of 1000 Corpses??? Er, just no!! Emphatically!!!
Why don’t you all just pull up a comfy chair or bean bag around my fire and we’ll have hot chocolate with marshmallows and read The Famous Five…..
No, wait, maybe we’ll read Dartmoor MC….. or something about some weird gardens with butterflies or something?????
But we can still have the hot chocolate!
Eenie, meanie, miney… Oh hell… IDK
Did y’all see in Michelle’s post about the Covenant series sale??
I LOVVVVVVVE that series!!! 😀
Haha…
1000 corpses freaked me out. It was just… freaky. That’s the one with his wife in it, and she’s crazy, right?
Yeah. 😐
LOL Grey! Come on, just give in and read it with us. I’m diving back in as soon as I finish my homework…that is, if I ever stop checking in here and chatting. 😉
Hey, Amy? You know who has a dark beauty?
Sherlock.
LOL!!!!!!!!
Yeah, but does he have a butterfly?
*raises left eyebrow in question*
Hey, did I ever mention that I watched a new show? 3 episodes of a new show?
A show called Bates Motel.
MARYSE!! We have to figure out everyone’s “butterfly”!
*sips Jan’s hot chocolate* So…I’m guessing I shared too much with the whole “horror movies are pretty” thing?? Not all of them! The Exorcist wasn’t pretty at all! *cowers in corner*
He has a Moriarty.
*kicks Amy ‘ s gauntlet*
Bev! Stop…*grunts and pushes Bev from gauntlet*…messin’ with my stuff!!!
Dude…DUDE! Last two Bates Motel episodes of this past season…holy moly, Alex the Sherriff made me cry like a damn fool in front of my hubby!!
First… we should find Sherlock’s butterfly. bev would like that. 😉
FOUND IT!!!!!!!!
Er… or this one, but it scares me too much.
LOL!!!!
Or maybe that’s bev’s butterfly. 😉
Whoa, it is freaky how much that looks like me.
Lol.
Maryse, that is one truly scary butterfly ………
Wow…skimming over Amy and Maryse’s chat about butterflies and Silence of the Lambs, Im feeling disturbed…..eating someone’s liver is NEVER EVER dark erotica!!!!! Baahaahaa.
Bev…..just wondering if you think Sherlock is on the spectrum? Everytime I watch that show I wonder if he has Aspergers Syndrome..(he reminds me very much of a couple of people I know on the spectrum)….detatched, analytical, emotionally aloof, supremely focused on his interests and so clever.
He reminds me of Don in Rosie Project!
Oh yeah Lisa. Sherlock is on the spectrum. I’ve always thought Aspergers.
Let’s see I read 15 books in May. My favorite would be Undecided, although I’m really liking Wild Abandon which I started in May, but haven’t finished.
WTH??? LOL!!!!
I get to be a Noble Leafwing if we get to pick. Its an actual crimson butterfly! *happy dance* Also, because of this game… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9czbIFtje3o
I wanna be a butterfly… Don’t I???
Er… Grey. Ummm…. I wouldn’t bother asking. 😉 Just pick one or he’ll pick for you..
They don’t ask. In the book? They just are.
Because reasons.
P.S. In real life? HECK NO. LOL!!!!! 😛
Butterfly Garden reminds me of Lady Garden *waggles eyebrows*….is this like new code for our wooha’s….our butterfly??
Just finished The Shadows (BDB) and feel like I’m a bit caught up. It was really nice to read JR’s very masculine style of writing after reading so many flowery romances. Think I’ll head over to an MC badass book and stick with the shitkickers and cursing for a bit longer 🙂
Lisa – try out Taste of Candy. You’ll lerrrve Candyman 😉
Tessa, that one is BEAUTIFUL!!
Yeahhhhhhh, he chooses for them. It would be beautiful except… *rubs chest* Aaaaand there goes my chest clenching again. 😕
OOH! Bev is a Blue Morpho. Because…
https://halfmydadsage.deviantart.com/art/Butterfly-sherlock-334577564
And Grey is a Gray Pansy.
See, Grey? Now you HAVE to read it. 😉
Of course I’m reading it! I can’t put the damn thing down and now I can’t sleep cause I NEED TO KNOW MORE!
Lauren Gilley totally rocks! I started reading her non MC books as well!
You found a Sherlock butterfly. Lol.
He is saying Amy watch me. Watch me Amy.
Your going to dream about him tonight.
What are they like, Ela? Any good?
11 books for me in May. My standout was Cottonwood by R. Lee Smith. I was in a serious meh-reading slump and needed a 5 star…and it was!
Hmmm… I aint no pansy… Stomp, stomp… But then I read that it’s a quite rare butterfly, and well I am quite rare, yes? LOL. Alright you’ve convinced me. Butterfly Garden it is.
I have a question (or maybe it’s more of an opinion) about The Secret Garden. I don’t think I can post it here because it may be a bit of a spoiler. I’m at 41%. Has anyone created a discussion thread for this book?
They’re pretty good Jan130 but more slow going than her MC and IMO they could be shorter…
I can do it Fabi
https://talk.maryse.net/threads/the-butterfly-garden-by-dot-hutchison.6112/
I’m at I think 75%
Awesome Ela. Thank you! And you’re ahead of me so I can ask away and not spoil it for you.
Well, shoot. I can’t log in to the discussion area. 🙁
What does it tell you guys when you try to log in?
I have no idea… because I’m in, and I see Ela is in.
I can’t either Fabi, don’t feel bad…
Did you ladies create accounts?
Maryse HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! WE NEED A SAFE PLACE TO DISCUSS THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ela, I know you’re on GR …
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/18131449-rants-raves-and-other-random-thoughts-spoilers-in-tags
Maybe a little discussion will keep me reading till the end.
I finished The Burg this morning. It was enjoyable. Not angsty as I expected but my angst button is broken. :P.
That said, no first line Thursday for me yet. I’ve no idea what I want to read.
lol Tessa, a broken angst button …
My first line is going to be the same as Maryse and Amy and Ela and …I don’t know who else is reading The Secret Garden. I’m at 62% and since I took the day off work today, I’ll probably finish it. I won’t be starting anything new though, I still want to go back to Chaos Station which I squirreled away from for the BR.
😛 It’s true! Pscho killer on the loose? Bummer. Second love with messed up past? Super sweet. Some seriously messed up stuff happening? Sucks to be them. See! Broken.
Tessa! You really should jump on the Butterfly Garden frolicking….
FLT (it totally feels like Wednesday to me though)
“The techs tell him the girl on the other side of the glass hasn’t said a word since they brought her in.” ~ The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison
I’ll try to log in…I’m curious about what you’re thinking right now, Fabi.
I’m…haunted. Yep, using that word again for this book. 😕
Amy, you don’t want to know my thoughts. Ela has been a real trooper putting up with me on that GR thread I posted above.
Oh no! I am loving your insights Fabi, it’s making me question my own opinion, because really WTF and I even have the T-shirt to prove it!
haha Ela. I’m going to finish this book today. Thanks to you. I had to get all that out, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to.
Uh-oh. Has the frolics stopped.
FLT
‘His father told him once, when he was a boy, that it was a man’s responsibility to find his place in the world.’
Snow In Texas by Lauren Gilley
Good FL, huh? I’m happily dwelling in Lauren Gilley’s MC world at the moment. My current read is this one, but it’s not my fave so far. (Still enjoying it though.) I FLOVED the others I’ve read so far: Fearless, The Skeleton King, and Tastes Like Candy (the new one out last week).
Thanks Ela. I might try her other series eventually (when I can get my head out of her MC books LOL. They’re long! (But I like that.)
Feel like I am way out of the loop…back from vacay, laundry…mostly done…fun fact learned on vacay…appletini shots!!! How did I not know about these????
So I started a new book…This Old Heart of Mine by AJ Compton. Started out a bawling mess…a good heart hurting deep into her life bawling mess! And then she was given this second chance and now she has met Him. (Not the original HIM just Him). And he is very moody….yeah, we love the moody ones with that air of mystery. Only 21% in and really loving it so far! Has anyone else read this one yet???
Yeah Jan130, I agree about her MC books but these are contemporary and really don’t need to be that long for the story to unfold root and end….YKWIM?
I finished Frolicking with the Butterflies *so not appropriate * and loved it BUT that ending needed more! It almost felt unfinished or unjustified? I just needed more!
Ela, I just finished too. I’m exhausted. Thank you for talking me off the ledge earlier today. I’m glad I didn’t jump ship.
Maryse, I just finished Wild Abandon today. Did you know your’e mentioned in the acknowledgements?
I didn’t know that Cheryl!!!! SO VERY COOL!!! 😀 Thank you for letting me know.
Yeah Ela, IKWYM. (Took me a while to work out your acronym LOL).
Don’t know whether to go prancing in the garden with the butterflies. I’m a bit torn. Will I? – Won’t I? :-/
Nah, probably not. Doesn’t really sound like my cup of tea.
Maryse…… Just read a 5+ star book that seems to be a hidden gem…”A god in Carver” by Haven Francis….. It’s teenage angst at its best!!!! And for all those that love Tijan…this will be right up there ally… I’m always looking for books like hers and this is as close as it comes…. Absolutely loved it!!!!! And there’s a second book in this series with a different hero and heroine called “A son of Carver” so I’m off to read that next!!!!
First line Friday:
Same as Jan’s….we’re both loving our Lean Dogs Legacy….Snow in Texas. And YES Jan…its an awesome first line.
Yes! Fabi…it totally made me see her through a very new light!
Lol Jan130
Ela, uh… NOPE. lol That type just seems too dark for me. Nightmare city and all. I could be wrong, but I just cant.
I, too, am inLauren Gilley’s amazing MC Club world. I loved all of the Dartmoor Series, and am reading the latest in the spin-off series, Lean Dogs. FLT-
“Chelle. Chelley, can you hear me?” A touch against her throat, fingers searching for her pulse. “Michelle.” – Tastes Like Candy, Lauren Gilley.
OMG…Desmond…
@75% and I want to shake he sh!t out of that guy. I’m so mad at him and he’s making my heart ache.
😕
Amy and butterfly crew… my question is, as much as I’m enjoying this book (and I TOTALLY am… I am SO into it) why is it taking me so long to read it? It’s as if I’m reading super-slow… there’s definitely no skimming in this one, though.
Oh poor Amy….just you wait and see *snickers*
Loved The Candyman 🙂
Amy, Des…OMG
Maryse, I stayed home from work yesterday and finished it. I felt exhausted after I was done. I don’t know why. But, yes, it seemed to take forever.
Oksy, it’s Friday, but my fist line started yesterday. I read the prologue and fell asleep with the tablet in my hand.
Except it’s King by TM Frazier so I can’t repeat it.
Aw man, guys…what the he!! am I in for with Des? Wait, don’t tell me. I already jumped off the board where You guys were chatting because I didn’t want to accidentally see a spoiler…
Maryse…it’s taking me a while because of RL stuff getting in the way, but I’m definitely not skimming either, and I’m enjoying the fact that I can savor it a bit more with it taking longer to read.
But GAH! So much gut and chest clenching! The twins? And Evita? And Simone? And…oh, just ALL of them!
Noooooo Tessa…you can’t post the first line of the prologue OR the first chapter. 😉
Honestly no clue Maryse! I went through this book like a bulldozer, I just couldn’t put it down and of course if you ask Fabi I missed the remote in his pocket thing…
Tesaa – hahaha – I remember those lines. Yup. You can’t post those here. Loved that book. It was my gritty-book-fix at the time.
😀 I’m absolutely loving it. Theres angst and then humor. 🙂 I only wish I was clueless as to what he was thinking. That’d ramp the angst up even higher.
Okay somebody’s gonna have to give me a cliff notes version of WTH Butterfly Garden ending is THAT?!!!
I don’t understand. WHAT? WHO? WHAT?!!! I’m reading… and then reading slower… conversations are happening, things are being revealed, and with all the double names, etc… and all the characters in these last few pages, I have NO idea who’s saying what? And what I AM understanding… it’s kind of absurd. WHAT??!!!
Okay… whatever. I got it… I think. It’s convoluted and kind of has a few crazy coincidences and all (that I didn’t see coming, but doesn’t make it much of a twist if you ask me – how fast all that unrolled into one big long reveal), but whatever. I got it.
I think.
I kind of feel like rolling my eyes. 😕
Grrr.
Maryse I’ll post in the spoiler area my thoughts…
Yes do, Ela… please. It just felt lackluster to me… kind of a crazy big ending with an extra twist-reveal, but it was so freaking convoluted and I wasn’t sure if I was reading that right…
And then the end.
Oh.
Well okay.
lol Maryse. I posted a bit of a ranting review on GR.
Omg Maryse, Fabi’s review is awesome!
Oh man…should I even bother finishing it? Or is it going to p!ss me off?
It pissed me off just ’cause it was so crazy-confusing out of the blue and I was all… why? WHAT? WHY this? Is it needed? WHAT?
Oh no no no no Amy *adamantly shakes head* If I finished it, you have to finish it. Besides, I can’t wait to here your opinion!
Exactly, Fabi! Amy needs to hold up her end of the bargain. Amy, watch Sherlock. Now!
Bev, did you spit and shake on your deal with her? ‘Cause if you didn’t…
omg!!! I just saw “here” instead of “hear” @#£%& I don’t know if that was me or autocorrect. :-/ ok, less thumbing on the phone and more reading…
*spits and shakes Amy*
bahahabahaha !! that’s not what I meant at all. So sorry Amy. *giggle*
WHAT?!?
No seriously, what the he!! was that??? Who DOES that?? That wasn’t a twist…that was messing up a story that was doing just fine with an asinine ending. *crosses arms and huffs*
Pity the next book I read ’cause I am ALL kinds of p!ssed off. 😕
RIGHT AMY??!!!!
RIGHT????
Like one reviewer said… maybe some clever-twisty foreshadowing for THAT twist… something not obvious right away, BUT SO obvious once that reveal came through, would have been AWESOME. I didn’t even really REMEMBER THAT character, so I was all… who? What?
And what the heck?? Did I just get SPIT on??? Oh no, Bev…you do NOT want me watchin’ Sherlock with the kind of mood I’m in right now…
I remembered that character, but there were absolutely NO subtle hints dropped regarding her which would have brought the “a-ha!” realizations later.
No. Just…NO. It didn’t work. At all.
Wait…did you review it already?? I haven’t looked yet…better go and do that now…
Yup, you did…I’m gonna take my BG wrath and let it loose over there. 😛
Yes, Maryse’s review is awesome. As always.
I can’t believe that the only one who had a problem with the whole captivity thing. For me, that ending was just the icing on a flat cake.
