My main memories of Halloween are my costumes and the massive amount of candy we would haul. These kids today are lightweights! I’d pack my snoopy pillowcase til I could barely drag it home. Oh, and the Dominoes in our town gave away free slices of pizza on Halloween, so my mom always took us for pizza. That was back when Dominoes was tasty. Haha. π
My favorite Halloween memory happened 8 years ago. My 4 year old daughter dressed as Cinderella and my 3 week old son was Mummy’ s mummy. Although I was dead tired with a newborn, it was the first time I got to take both my children trick or treating. Nothing better!
I can’t decide between reading Jaye Wells Sabina Kane novella or watching the newest version of The Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro & Emily Blunt….decisions, decisions…..
All my favorite Halloween memories are wrapped up in creating unique costumes for my two boys. King Tut and Mummy one year. A Chinese Dragon (they were both inside that) another. A zombie from the FBI. We all had fun being as creative possible. Now they’re in college.
I remember trick or treating when I was about 8 or 9 and got an onion that was all wrapped up. I thought I was getting a treat, instead I got a trick!
I remember one year I was in junior high and my friend and I were on a mission. We were out trick or treating until midnight. Looking back, it was ridiculous, but at the time it was a blast!
We are in the midwest and it is so cold and rainy! We are trying to figure out a way to keep the kiddos warm and dry tonight while enjoying Halloween! π
Last Halloween I took my 4 year old son trick or treating, at the end of night, he looks to me and says best Christmas ever. I laughed so hard!!
My nephew is obsessed with Super Mario Bros and 3 years ago when he was 3 he dressed up as Yoshi. I went trick or treating with him but I surprised him by dressing up as Mario. He loved it and we had the best time and got many comments on our costumes!
My favorite memory was kindergarten. I had chicken pox, missed my class party, and spent most of the day covered in calamine lotion. That night my mom bundled me in the car and did the trick or treating for me! π
Lots of friends coming over tonight for trick or treating. My scariest memories is an alleyway by my mom’s house that I always heard stories about… Neighbors seeing things or knocks on doors in the middle of the night with no one there… I still avoid this alley when driving at night. Too much said to not have some truth- enjoy ur night and thx for the giveaway:)
One Halloween I was walking around with my daughter while she was trick or treating. I also had my small dog with me. At one point a little girl walked by with her mother and said “oh look at the doggy!”. I replied back to her “Oh no this is my kitty dressed up like a dog”. She was so confused and tilted her head and just stared at my dog for a long time. Finally I had to tell her I was kidding and it really was a dog. Her mom just gave me the evil eye. haha
Thanks for the giveaway!!
We are trick or treating with good family friends/neighbors. I was a little sad that my 2nd grader decided not to go cute and cuddle and instead went with a Spider Countess costume (have to admit she looks adorable in it!!) I guess the era of princesses and animals are memories:( Happy Halloween!
One of my favorite scary stories was about a purple gorilla. Crazy I know. When I was in second grade my friends parents owned McDonalds so we got to spend the night in the “play area” I will never forget. Who actually gets to spend the night at McDonalds?! Well they told us a scary story about a gorilla trying to come into mcdonalds at night because they could smell the chicken nuggets. It sounds silly but it scared the crap outta me!!
Happy Halloween! (:
I think my most memorable Halloween was when I was in the fourth grade. I was a cheerleader and nothing spectacular happened that I recall but that is probably the only one I remember. I hate getting old!
Thanks for the TREAT! Happy Halloween!

Here’s a ghost story from my childhood, when I was around the age of 4, maybe 5 I would scream bloody murder with night terrors every night. When they finally subsided, I kept seeing a black “shadow figure” at the end of the bed who used to go outside my bedroom door, enter our attic and walk around above my bed. Sometimes he would even knock on the ceiling. My mom would always tell me that it was nothing but the more I saw it, the more scared I became. Now almost 20 years later I found out that a man who used to live in the house was murdered in the forest behind the house and has quite frequently haunted the families living in the house. Scary stuff
Happy Halloween!
My favorite Halloween was when I took my friend’s 6 year old cousin from Norway, trick or treating for the first time in his life. He was very cute and wanted to be a vampire, so he decided that I would go with him as his “victim”..lol. I had blood running down my throat and shirt!
We don’t really have Halloween here in Sweden. Going to read Carter Reed – Tijan tonight.
When my son was younger and went out trick or treating with his cousin for the first time after convincing mom and dad they were big enough to go alone, they not only came home with bags full of candy but also a fluffy little kitty! Happy Halloween!!
hmmmmm. my greatest memory is the year I was sick and could not go trick or treating. My two brothers felt so bad that they took an extra pillowcase(cuz the cutsie plastic pumpkins were to expensive) and trick or treated for me. Now keep in mind that these were my older brothers and I was just tag along sister most days. The following year the same two boys collected my dropped candy in the rain with flashlights since my pillowcase had a hole in it and I must have left a trail Hansel and Gretel could follow.
When I was in high school a group of us spent one night driving around to all the haunted spots of our hometown (Ventura, CA). We have a park called Cemetery Park, which was Ventura’s cemetery from 1869 to 1941. There are all kinds of “known sightings” there including a white-gowned lady, a headless runner, and a boy who hanged himself in a tree there. Well, this night driving around for awhile and after already working ourselves in a frenzy, we finally reached Cemetery Park…and there were “people” strolling around. It was too dark to make out any details, but whether they were living or ghosts we didn’t stick around to find out!
Happy Halloween. Thanks for the great giveaways. Halloween is a big celebration in our family. . Every year all cousins, aunt, uncles get together. We have a big potluck. Then all 40 go trick or treating.
LOL Jennifer I have a similar story. Being the older sister, I took my little brother out trick or treating in the rain. After a long night hitting up every house in the neighborhood we arrived home to find his bag empty. He was so tired he’d been dragging the heavy bag along the ground and all his candy slipped out piece by piece leaving a wet candy trail behind us. I was a nice sister and shared mine. π
My favorite costume was when I was in 2nd grade and I dressed as The Fonz from Happy Days.
Thank you for the giveaway!
This year my 15 yr old daughter has been in a haunted house for the 6 weeks…So every night is a new scare when she walks up to the car!! She is a doll(a girl turned into a doll) so her makeup every night is quite intense!
Taking my kids trick or treating tonight! My daughter is a vampire and the baby has to be bundled up bc it’s supposed to get pretty cold!
Well tonight I am working. When I get off I will have to watch The Monster Squad a favorite from my childhood. Happy Hallooween
My favorite memory. I was about 8 yrs old and a crazy storm rolled through so my parents and a few other results threw together an awesome let minute Halloween party for all the neighborhood kids so we had something to do!
I went to a costume party and someone was dressed in a cereal box and carrying a gun. He was a “serial killer.” Ha ha!!
The year my oldest daughter wanted to be a corpse bride. I spent an entire day hot gluing worms and spiders onto her dress and veil. Well, I’m not very handy and kept getting glue burns, so my daughters (7 & 10 at the time) took the glue gun away from me saying it wasn’t safe for me to use.
I haven’t touched a hot glue gun since.
I remember when I was little and trick or treating that there was one house that we would go in and sit at their kitchen table and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. (yes I lived in a small town where everyone know everyone but I wouldn’t see this happening at all anymore!)
And there was always one lady that dressed up like a witch and sat on her front porch with a cauldron that “smoked” and she would stick a large wooden spoon in to stir the pot and then give you a spoonful of candy! I miss those days!
I remember taking my daughter trick or treating for the first time when she was about 3. She lasted about one block and then wanted to come home. I was really disappointed, I was hoping for a lot more candy.
Well Maryse, we didn’t have Halloween in Brazil but I used to have nightmares about someone being inside my TV like in Poltergeist THE MOVIE..lol..so creepy!! Happy Halloween and thank you so much!!!!!!!!
My favorite Halloween memory isn’t scary… Or it wasn’t for me. Lol. My brother and I were staying with our older sister for Halloween (she used to live near a cemetery). So my brother(who was about 14-15 at the time) had this creepy mask… And put on some loose clothes an stuffed them with paper so that it looked like a “dummy” laying in a lawn chair. The girls next door (who were near my brothers age and crushing on him hardcore) came over dressed up cute in costumes hoping to ‘impress’ my brother with how cute they looked. As they walked past the “dummy” in the chair talking about how crazy creepy real it looked, my brother reached out and grabbed ones hand. I swear they screamed the neighborhood down and possibly peed themselves. Best memory ever. π ps… The girls were too scared to talk to him for weeks. Even better!
The scariest Halloween memory I have was when I was about 8 or 9. The neighbours had a scarecrow in a patio seat and all the kids were super frightened of it. Being the brave and fearless person I am, I decided to prove everyone what straws really made of…being a young and brainless it wasn’t enough to walk up to the scarecrow, or poke it, I had to haul off and kick it…hard. The scarecrow released a slew of curses jumped up, grabbed a chainsaw, revved it up, and chased me. I almost shat my pants, screaming, crying, I ran for my ever loving life. I ran for what seemed like forever, but was realistically into our backyard where I hid under our porch for what seemed like hours—or until my mother retrieved me. Let me tell you—I’ve never f**ked with a scarecrow again.
My grandmother dressed like the witch from The Wizard Of Oz, my dad didn’t recognize her when she showed up at our front door. He almost called the cops!! That was funny.
Unfortunately I don’t get to enjoy Halloween this year, other than watching scaring movies, because I have to go to work!!
Date night with my fiance’! π
My favorite memory is going trick or treating with my brothers and we would leave the house at 6 and come back when the 9:00 curfew bell rang. We ran the entire time we were out. It was a blast! Then we would get home dump our pillowcases out and the candy trading would begin. Good Times!!!
I went out with my 3 year old son tonight and although he enjoyed getting candy, the big highlight was ringing the doorbell. In fact, at one house, they opened the door before he could get there; upon seeing his disappointed face they closed the door just so he could ring the doorbell. Happy Halloween!
Rocky Horror
I am home handing out candy tonight since my husband is working
Seven years ago, when my daughter was 5, we took her trick or treating around the neighborhood, and she was dressed as a beautiful little ladybug and had these big wings on the back of her costume. Everybody was coming up to her and telling her that she looked so pretty dressed as a ladybug. After about 30 minutes of multiple people coming up to her, she finally lost it and started screaming out everybody stop F-ing looking at me. She may have been dressed as a ladybug, but she certainly was not acting like a lady. I then went home later that night to yell at my husband for dropping the F-bomb in front of our daughter. He had to go the following year with us in case we had another mishap. That way I could just point to him and be like….it’s him not me. Lol.
So bummed, this year my boys are “too cool for trick-or-treating mom,” so I won’t get to pick out all their good candy for myself. *clears throat, I mean inspect it. π we’re starting a new tradition though, we just returned from the sporting good store because we are attempting to go camping this weekend :/
I used to work in a movie theatre that many of us swear was haunted. You’d hear things, see someone in the projection booth and when you’d walk towards them noone would be there. We’d have awesome Halloween parties there where we’d turn out the lights and play hide and seek or even bust out the ouiji board and scare the crap out of ourselves!
I had my halloween dress up fun last saturday and it’s raining tonight so I’m in for the night, just finished a book and am trying to decide on the next one π
Today my 4 year old told me, “Mama, I hope I’m not too tired to go trick or trunking.” That was so cute!!
My fave halloween memory just happened. Family friends kids food and trick or treating! Lot of laughs and stuffing ourselves! All while the kids run around in full costume scaring each other. Its great!
My most memorable Halloween is my first one here in the states, I was dressed as Wonder Woman, I had just finished watching one of the nightmare on elm street movies. I was waiting for my neighbor to pick me to take me trick or treating. There was a knock on the door, I answer and who’s standing I front of me none other than Freddy Kruger , I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off,and refused to go out that night,I had already been traumatized for the night. π
My best Halloween was last year when my family from Brazil was here in the US visiting me… It was their first experience ever with Halloween, they had so much fun and it was so cool to see the craziness of Halloween through their eyes. π
The past three years have been great with the kiddos and family costumes! First jake and never land pirates, last year superheroes and this year we were toy story 3 characters! I love it, the kids love it!
I grew up in a small town that had the largest Halloween festival, Neewollah (Halloween backwards) with a week long carnival, stage bands, plays, parties, all kinds of contests, kiddie parades, a queen, and finally ending in a grand parade. All my halloween memories center around this great week, and now I get to take my kids back to enjoy!
I have always been a bit of a recluse so staying in with a movie has always been my favorite till my kids came along. Now with my kids I enjoy making costumes and taking them out to trick or treat.
I’m snuggling on the sofa with Halloween on the DVD player and a big bag of Reese’s in my lap! Perfect night. π
It might be too late for a comment but I remember when I looked out the window on Halloween night about the same time my dad was looking in with a sheet over his head…I ran screaming down the hall. To this day I am still nervous looking out a window at night
Rachel… OMG the pillowcases of candy brought me back to my childhood, when my mom would take me. Those things can hauls a ton of goodies!!
Hahaha these are soooo good! Best Christmas ever (awwwwww) and the week long Halloween town!? That sounds like it should be a Disney Halloween movie.
Melisa… Haha Freddy himself came to pick u up… Funny. I actually just watched Freddy vs. Jason, so your memory hit home.
It’s pouring here! No trick or treating going on today. I don’t really have a favorite memory. They were all good!
Jennifer… Best brothers ever!
Teresa LOL your ladybug daughter just made me choke laugh!
Brought back a memory. When I was 5 I was dressed like Dracula (cape and plastic mask with air holes and fake blood at the mouth) LOL yep. I was never a girly thing when i was little. Go figure!
Anyway, I remember the first house I went to, our elderly neighbors made a big act of how scared they were that Dracula was at their door, and I was sooooo worried that I really scared them that I ripped off my mask in a panic and told them it was just little ol’ me…
Hahaha. My child brain believed their “scared” act wholeheartedly. Heheheh
I keep forgetting that some countries don’t have Halloween. π
Ashley, the scarecrow did it’s job well. OMG that is toooo funny. And Amy and your cute doorbell story…
These stories are alllll soooo amazing! I can’t choose a favorite. Lucky this will be a random selection. π
I didn’t do anything for Halloween tonight but watch movies, turn on tons of autumn smelling candles and light all my fake pumpkins, and read your comments. It’s been a great Halloween!
Brenda… Awwww best treat ever!
Family Halloween get togethers, and the cute scary brother that scares the girls… And the holes in the pillowcases… The scary creepy ghost stories.
Every single one of your memories… Even those as early as tonight, made me smile.
Yep you guys made my night!
Watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” Even as an adult I still like to watch it.
OMG! So back in 2009, I dressed up as a hard-boiled egg. Yup, an egg. I had about 4 boxes of aluminum foil wrapped around me and needless to say, I had trouble breathing that night. LMAO every time I think about it…interesting and funny experience!
My best memories of halloween were trying to come up with the most creative food ideas such as sandwiches that looked like a two foot snake and desserts that were festive to decorate the whole kitchen and welcoming relatives and their little kids before trick or treat to make sure the kids ate before they stuffed themselves with candy. It took months to come up with ideas from year to year.
When I was 12 I dressed up as “Pippy Longstockings” & a cute boy wouldn’t quit pulling my braids…20 yrs later, he’s my husband of 12 years & still likes pulling my hair
My favorite Halloween memory is when I went trick or treating to one house and was given a roll of quarters. I got like two dollars in quarters and thought I was rich. I was a happy camper! π I made sure to go to that house every year.
I’m too old to go trick or treating but tonight I stayed in with my mom, watched the Halloween movie marathon and carved pumpkins. I carved a spider that had a missing leg. My mom’s pumpkin had a lopsided smile and looked goofy. It was very fun!
My favorite Halloween memory took place today when my 4 year old and my 2 year old had a conversation about how much fun Halloween was. It was the cutest thing to listen to…..love them! Happy Halloween!
My favorite memory ofHalloween is when my brother and I wore clown costumes are by my Mom
Not halloween but I used to work at a halloween haunt. I have two events of which I hold in some esemblance of interest. One year I played the part of a mental patient, however a few weeks in I couldnt be in the haunt anymore because I was having anxiety attacks and paranoia XD. Another year I broke my finger while working the haunt. OOPS
In Aus we don’t really do it, but when I was young, and American lady moved into our street and held a party and coordinated the street so we could all do it. She had this awesome huge super pumpkin outfit. I hope it catches on here more, it is so much fun.
I was to old to go trick or treating
I grew up by a cemetery. On Halloween the neighborhood kids would go trick or treating then afterwards we gathered at the front gate of the cemetery for a game of dare. I was dared to go in to cemetery and touch the headstone of a buried leg. It said on the headstone “a leg” was buried in the grave. The cemetery was not lighted, I took off running and touch the headstone, turned to run back and took a different route. I fell into a freshly dug grave. Needless to say I scared everyone to death with my screams!
We had the biggest turn out we have had in a long time. We ran out of candy and had to shut the front lights off. Kids saw we had lights on inside and still rang the bell so we had to shut everything off and watch tv in the dark.
Think I am probably too late for the giveaway….. Favorite memory is the first time my kids went trick or treating.
My favorite part of Halloween was always the decorating with my mom. Now I decorate for everything with my kids. The holiday is what you make of it. If you ignore it, it’s just another day. But if you prepare for it and celebrate it, the memories are that much better! However, I created little monsters though b/c we can barely get through 1 holiday before the kids are ready to decorate for the next! π
When I was 12, my friend and I made raggedy ann and andy (showing my age) outfits (hair and all). They really looked good. People kept asking us where we bought our costumes. We were so proud. We had a really great time that night. We covered our entire neighborhood that night – 3 pillowcases filled with treats!
The first halloween Hubby and I were together. We had only been going out for 9 days. I got to see him in a toga…… I went as pippi long stocking. Dyed my hair red and used a coat hanger so it stuck right out.
Last night I had a little girl dressed as a vampire stop by for trick or treating. She told me she can’t’religiously say happy Halloween so she said Happy Easter. It was cute but made me laugh how she couldn’t celebrate Halloween but still happily participated in the festivities:) I would too. It’s candy!!
Where I lived in Illinois, they trick or treat the Firday before Halloween and my birthday is 10/29 so sometimes we would trick or treat and them go to the house for my birthday party. I have birthday pictures of all of us in costume
I remember trick or treating when I was a kid was cool because most people made their costumes. In particular, their was a group of clowns running around near Rosemont and they were real clowns from Ringling Bros circus! Well, that’s what they said…
My favorite memory was from last year. My son was 5 and old enough to tell his own jokes. There he was, dressed in a homemade Christmas tree costume, running from house to house telling knock-knock and why’d-he-cross-the-road jokes with absolute gusto, laughing at the punch line even more than his audience. It was wonderful!
My favorite memory is when my siblings and I were little and we went to a Halloween celebration every year and all of us and our friends woulds sit around and swap candy for over an hour from the treat bag we got….good times. Lol π
trick or treating with friends
My favorite Halloween memory is sitting with my sister when I was younger, maybe 10 and she read me the Amityville Horror paperback out loud. I was SOOOOO scared!
Also, sidenote. I just went to buy “Alex” and it was already back to $7.99. Bummer City!!
My favorite is my daughter’s first Halloween when she dressed up as a clown. As soon as she saw the people putting candy in the pail she started to eat it wrappers and all. I loved watching her look at all the people with their costumes. It was fun I miss those day since she is turning 16 tomorrow π
Oh well I hope everyone enjoyed it!!!
My birthday is Oct 28 so all of my parties were Halloween themed but on Halloween 1996, I went into labor with my firstborn son. Best Halloween ever!!
One of my favorite halloween memories is a road rally halloween party that I went to when I was in my late teens. We had so much fun we planned or own a few years later. Had a blast!!!!
