I had two new books show up last night, it is always a surprise, lol.
Sounds like my state is preparing for an announcement that our school system will stay closed for the rest of the year.
HOLY MOLY!!! But as long as they’re able to do online courses to keep up, then it’s not so bad (for schooling anyway). Though parents who need to work, this would be rough.
I think there is already 5 states who have shut schools for the year, I’m guessing more will follow. I dont see how New York or California wouldnt at this point.
I doubt Louisiana goes back either, and I can say I know why I am not a teacher😭
We are currently extended until May 3rd. Today the third, yesterday it was the first. *rolls eyes* Online schooling isn’t so bad, it’s the kid not being able to go and play basketball with his friends.
Poor guy.
Ours is still end of April, but after today’s numbers from the White House in think that might change for a lot of places.
We will see what the governors do.
Looking forward to reading Dear Enemy. Just enjoyed Bitter Heat (#1 Singed) by Mia Knight (published March 2019). #2 book nowhere in sight. Author says :”For those looking for book 2 in the Singed Series, I will be working on it after book 5 in the Crime Lord Series is released.” That book 5 not yet released 🙁
Ohhhhh that could be a long wait. Cliffhanger?
yup…sad cause book was good.
I just finished Dead Enemy. It was good. Fun, easy read.
Really?? Thank you so much for the feedback. It doesn’t look like fun, but dark and intense. 😉
Just saw the typo. Ohh autocorrect. 😜
Yeah, Dear Enemies was like Enemies by Tijan or The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata. Nothing surprising, just angsty.
Here in Massachusetts the regular schools (and all non-essential businesses) are closed til May 4. But I am fairly confident it will end up being closed til end of this school year. 🙁 When this mess began, all the colleges emptied out the dorms and immediately switched all courses to online for the remainder of this semester.
Maryse I just saw that Florida’s Florida’s govenor finally issued a lock down.
So I’m really reading again, but for some reason it is really late at and into the night. I’m not usually a night owl.
If I dont fix this before going back to work……
lol You’ll be all messed up. But at least you are enjoying books again. 🙂
Finally about Florida. Reports are coming in of all the spring breakers who have contracted Covid19. *facepalm* 25 in Texas from one trip alone.
And now how many have they infected. Infuriating, but wish they hadn’t got sick.
I just got word fr ol m a friend that has children that the school district is prepared for the schools to shut for the year.
This will probably affect my job so I might not need to change my schedule. My usual, give or take, is 9pm-5am and now it is more like 2am -10am. But just spent 2 books back to back with Mercy and the pack. Next is Lucy Parker’s The Austen Playbook.
Also, just say KU has the Manga version of LDK which I watched as a J drama. It was ok but might make for some light free reading.
I got distracted by a different book.
Murder at the Brightwell by Ashley Weaver. It was on sale. Of course the first in a series, but all of a sudden traveling back to the 1930s for a little who done it sounded just right.
Reading moods. 🤷♀️
I love our crazy reading moods…
What a mess. Seriously.
I just can’t.
Unfortunately the lock down in Florida doesn’t stop NYers, etc from driving in. My best friend works for Florida Dept of Health. She’s been deployed to the border & spends 12 hours a day stopping people at the border w/ out of state tags. But all they can do is ask where they’re going & ask them to please self quarantine when they arrive. Not enough cops to follow up every day. Would be much more helpful if they could tell them to go home!!!
I’m holed up here in Florida and praying hard. And for my mom, who works in a grocery store (she’s in Canada, and her small city/town where she lives has been locked down completely). No people from outside her town are even allowed to enter…
I w s looking some thing up and saw this about your mom. Wow, hadn’t heard of that happening here…
Yup, night reading too these days. It’s like I’m on day alert and then beeper’s off at night. Like it though…everyone’s asleep+night sounds.
Back in reading groove…edgy, but not too edgy books work. The Bad Guy and Taut: The Ford Book fit the bill, & The Golden Pecker was…odd…but enjoyed it. Dear Enemy was okay but lagged for me.
Oh my… I know someone who would have snorted and giggled over the title of The Golden Pecker.
So I’m gonna channel her right now.
*giggle* 🤭 *snort* 😂
Amy!
yup, weird/good title…this somehow showed up as something good to read…
It takes effect Friday as of midnight (but my question is… is it Thursday at midnight going into Friday, or Friday at midnight going into Saturday)?
Either way, I don’t go out other than for work anyway… and maybe that will change too, now.
I hate wording like that, but if say the midnight going into Friday.
I’m going to the store tomorrow. I’m out of coffee that is a step too far.
I can not pandemic with out coffee.
I hope your job works out how you want and or need it to work out.
I still say at some point we need to do a read or watch a thon.
There should be something on a website with exact date and time. That’s how I figured out ours. I thought I knew, then some media were saying it differently. Thankfully the website was concise as to the time.
edit: Found it. “The order will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday. The order is set to end on April 30.”
New South Wales, the most populous state in Australia, (where Sydney is) has announced their lockdown is going to continue for 90 days. That makes it till the end of June :-0 I won’t be surprised if our state (Victoria) does the same. Although we’re on a two-week term break at the moment, once the new term starts, it looks like I might be teaching my high schoolers online till the end of June at least…….
I have just started reading the October Daye series. I’m quite liking book 1 so far. Urban fantasy series. Good escapist reading LOL.
Getting ready to go to the store, should I buy cheese?
Heck yes! I’ve been stocking up on cheese for weeks. It’s nice because the opened cheeses last for months.
Duh! I meant UN-opened. Stupid autocorrect
OMG CHEEEEEEESE!!!!!!!
I miss cheese.
You can freeze cheese too! That’s what I do since we don’t go through it very fast.
You can freeze cheese? Who knew?
Yes! Shred first if you can. Freezing block cheese results in crumbly cheese. You can freeze bread, sour cream, eggs (crack them into ice cube trays), flour, milk, etc!
OK, thanks. Eggs too. Wow. Never knew.
This is such a thing from my childhood. And, “Just cut the mold off its fine.” Lol.
Oh no, I don’t do that. That’s gross!
Freezer cheese tastes just fine. Set it out to thaw and you’re good to go!
Lol.
We was poor. No way my mom was throwing away a block of cheese, lol.
I don’t think we even used real cheese until I was an adult. Kraft singles and velveeta for us. Really, Kraft singles were all you’d find unless it was shredded. I can’t stand the stuff now.
The only actual cheese I have right now is Kraft parmesan and Velveeta cheese in those foil pouches. *sigh*
It will do, I suppose, but I’m a HUGE brick of cheese lover so this is hard on me.
And yes, I’ll likely be commenting daily on my cheese needs until I finally get cheese again. LOL!
My mom used to same the same. Mold on cheese? No problem at all!!
Also, my mom loves cheese as much as I do. 🙂
Because it is made out of mold, lol.
It would be so exspensive but maybe you have some local artisanal dairy farms or cheese people that might sell online, especially now. Worth a chance.
That was a pain and probably go back tomorrow.
But I was able to get essentials like tp, paper towels, coffee, sugar, hand soap, ect. Then hopefully in another 2 to 3 weeks. It sucks running out of something and not just running into to grab that one or two things.
We are so spoiled! And I miss it!
Now to disinfect every thing. And is this now my store jacket?
Notes from a 27-day hard-core 🙂 self-isolator in Canada. Quarantine Act in force…$750K fines. Not a lockdown but country-wide self-isolating going well from all reports. We and friends (public health people) ordering online or delivery shopping. Groceries, meds, liquor, hardware. Walmart Online fantastic-“no-touch” pickup straight into trunk. Virus’s lifespan: Cardboard-24 hrs, Metal-48, Plastic -72, textiles-few hours but sheds. So we quarantine & triage groceries for minimum 72 hrs. with careful technique. Non-perishables in a room corner, frozen in a secluded spot in freezer, cold on a special shelf in fridge. Wash hands, keys, door & car handles. No touching of faucet handles beforehand or soap pump top. Many in our group also quarantine/don’t touch mail, couriered packages, purchases, garbage can rims when return from curb.
Two bright lights – night reading 🙂 and daughter to have a baby any day. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Congratulations on the baby! I feel for people having babies right now with having to be separated from family.
You’ve been isolated for 27 days? That’s awesome, you all started early. I was still at work and it didn’t seem like it would even effect a of us except for news stories that long ago. Things change so fast.
I just disinfect everything when I get it home. Also, no grocery delivery in my small town. We dont even have restaurants that deliver in normal times, lol.
Thanks Bev! But my daughter’s 4 days overdue…no baby but soon! Tough ride…husband can’t go to appts & not clear whether he or midwife will be allowed in the labour room (just doc&nurse). Tears. 🙁 I won’t see or hold newborn grandchild as had to cancel airbnb there. (FaceTime!). But safety first.
Sorry, should have said I know pickups & deliveries not always available.
Early isolation at our end because knew virus had just arrived in community and that powers-that-be act way too SLOWLY. Our Minister of Health just advised today that we now know 25-50% INFECTED POPULATION SHOW NO SYMPTOMS. Changing their view on FACE MASKS. Sigh, this is why I can’t day-read right now (beeper) but 2 am works.
SO. FREAKING. SCARY. I can’t sleep at all… 2-3 hour spurts of tossing and turning then wide awake, fretting and contemplating.
I sent the hubs to the grocery earlier. They’re out of pasta and of course, so am I. Having to borrow from family members. So frustrating, but glad I can also. Porch pick ups and drop offs.
We did curbside yesterday and the place (even the town) was so packed with people (even teenagers!) My husband freaked out and said we’d have to start doing delivery no matter how long we have to wait. To top it off, when we got home, I totally spaced and didn’t wipe anything down. How I could forget that, I have no idea, but I’m not sure it even matters because the wipes I have are probably 5 years old.
They say that from groceries is pretty slim. Someone could sneeze on it and though it can take hours to days depending the virus does start to degrade pretty fast.
Help! I’m having so much trouble deciding today. I’m looking at Kindle Firsts and What We Forgot to Bury sounds soooo juicy. I want to devour it. Stories We Never Told sounds mind bending and possibly will push on the emotions, The Girl Beneath the Sea also sounds like the perfect thriller read. What to choose?? Omg and Book of the Months picks are worse. I’m loving the sound of 4 more than 1… will ask opinions on those too, cuz why not? 😜
Ok, Beach Read!! Hate to love books are totally my thing and this was on my tbr!! Or, ooooh Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore. Gives me Beartown vibes and you know how much I loved that book. Or, The Paris Hours by Alex George- love when there are multiple stories going on and they all intertwine somehow. The Guest List gives me Clue vibes. 😂😂 Who dunnit?
OH I FORGOT KINDLE FIRSTS!!!
YAY!
OMG three of them sound SO freaking good right now. Exactly the ones you love, I love!!! I can’t choose.
Okay wait… for me it’s definitely between What We Forgot to Bury and Stories We Never Told…
Maryse! I got my meat box!! Did you? I need to know what you’re going to do with a couple of them!
I got my meat box too!!!!!
I only cooked one of my 1lb packs of ground beef. I made a sort of ground beef stir-fry with sugar peas, celery, green onion, carrots and salt and pepper (and a touch of soy sauce).
I load it into my Shirataki noodles and pretend I’m eating Chinese food. LOL!!!
Sounds yum!
😀 It is! I usually make it with chicken or pork (oh and I also add fresh ginger to it). This time, I was just in the mood for ground beef, ya know? And it works!
What did you get?
2 lbs of ground beef, 1 lb of ground breakfast sausage, 4 chicken breasts, 2 filet mignons, 2 pork sirloin roasts and a coulotte sirloin cap. It’s the last two I’m unsure of. On their website, the recipes for sirloin cap suggest low and slow to medium rare, but the ingredients are too adventurous to come by right now. I need to find a simpler recipe. I’m assuming for the pork roasts that I should treat them just like pork loin and cook to 145-150 degrees.
I’m excited to try this recipe cuz sometimes I just don’t want to put the effort into baking. And for some reason I’m all about banana bread lately. We’ve got an abundance of brown bananas. Sharing cuz maybe you want to try too. https://www.skinnytaste.com/banana-bread-muffin-in-a-mug/
I made slow cooker chicken Alfredo tonight. I checked back on the recipes blog here bc I know I shared it and what I wanted to do different next time. So, I took my advice 🤣 and really seasoned up the chicken while I seared it. Salt and pepper, garlic pepper and salt free zesty Italian blend, added everything I was supposed to add in the crockpot, including seared chicken, but added an extra garlic clove, some rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, onion powder, and sage. Just till it smelled right, lol. Then did 18 minutes for the pasta at the end and it was perfect. Also, added a bunch of fresh parsley this time to garnish.
OMG IT SOUNDS DELICIOUS!!!!!! I just ordered more fettuccini-shaped Shirataki noodles from Amazon, so maybe I’ll do this too. Wait… do I need cheese for this?
Cheeeeeeeeeeeese.
*hrmph*
Ohh I would love to know your favorite kept-friendly recipes!
I forgot, and since I’m reading I have to do it.
FLT: IT IS AN impossibly great trial to be married to a man one loves and hates in equal proportions.

Oh yes! I forgot too (again!)
First line Thursday:
“October? October, are you there? October, this is Evening.”
from Rosemary and Rue, the first book in the Toby (October) Daye series by Seanan McGuire.
I’m enjoying it so far. Kind of has a bit of the feel of the Mercy Thompson series.
“We rarely know when our lives are about to change. When the direction we have been traveling will shift.”
A.L. Jackson “Stay.”
Hello Maryse, came across your page and am really enjoying it!
Wanted to know how I post for a book I cannot seem to find 🙂

Ok. Just finished re-reading Across Time in prep for Across Eternity that came on on 4/1. I can’t be the only person who hates Marie, right? I know her self-centered, refusal to listen to our MC & “I’m always right even though idk wtf I’m talking about” is mostly to drive our plot, but it drives me nuts. Hate. *head explodes*
Update: 40% through across eternity & I hate Marie with a burning, fiery passion. I can’t be alone.
I love when I hate a character. LOL!!! Now I’m so freaking curious.
I don’t THINK I was supposed to hate her, but man oh man. When you read it we need to have a chat. So many feelings about this duology.
