Oh. Em. Gee!! I can’t believe I don’t have this list up yet, considering:
- She’s one of my absolute favorite authors and I ALWAYS CRAVE reading books that have her “feel”… her guys are MY kind of heroes. These are the guys that make my heart dip, put butterflies in my stomach, make me furious and want to cry, and put me in a love fog. I *need* that chase, and her guys sure give it to us. But when they give in… OMG swoooooooooooon!!! And then they make us SOOOO mad. Right off the bat (usually) and well… throughout. The perfect romance angst, if you ask me.
- Her romance books, and her alpha-males are the ultimate reading experience!
- Her heroines always feel like ME. I can always relate to them, connect to them. BECOME them.
-
I can’t even choose just one certain book for a “What to read after… ” because ALL of KA’s books are uniquely hers, and uniquely amazing, and we’re always just looking for more, that feel like her.
- To me, she’s the queen of bad-boy/flawed-yet-heroic/moody/alpha-jerks/yet absolute sweetheart alpha-males.
- And EVERYONE is always asking for more like KA. We are all KA addicts here, so let’s make this the ultimate “KA-feel” finds list!
Just check out what our fellow readers are saying:
Debra: Kristen Ashley, who in my world can do no wrong regardless of the genre. I have loved all of Kristen Ashley’s books. She is my absolute favorite author and I’ve read ALL of her books, with Jagged being the 40th one. Yes, the 40th! She is really my favorite 🙂 Sometimes I like a break from all the New Adult books, and it is nice to read about characters that are a bit older. This is also why I love Kristen Ashley’s books so much.
Shanen: I have heaps so many favorites. But my top 5 would probably be …. and without a doubt any by Kristen Ashley
Sandra: I want to read a book where the guy and girl hate each other but fall in love…. I read all of KA books…any suggestions
Asees: Hi do you know if there is a book like the fantasyland series? Any author just same category .
Linh: Wow. U r in my head. I just finished rereading the golden dynasty and now I am rereading mystery man. This isn’t my second rereads on these books either. Probably the fifth for mystery man and fourth for golden dynasty.
Mary: Her books are in a genre of their own. Love them! I cannot count the number of times I’ve read many of her books! Every book I’ve thought to list here is (shockingly) one of hers! … As for me — I’m about to reread some Tate. Or Max. Or Luke. Or Joe Callahan, OMG YES! Joe’s the one! Goodnight, all!
Renate: …the beauty of Kristen Ashley’s men is that they are who they are with and because of the Heroine with them…..easy!
Michelle: Nobody can write an alpha like Kristen Ashley. Wasn’t sure about Tack at the beginning of Motorcycle Man, but loved him by the end. Wasn’t sure about Knight at the beginning of Knight, but loved him by the end. Kristen Ashley is just simply awesome.
Julie: Nobody writes the “alpha male” like Kristen Ashley…. I wish all authors would write like Kristen, she writes long books you can really get lost in. Most of her books are series, where you will see characters that you loved from other books repeated and she is the greatest epilogue writer ever. She could teach classes on writing epilogues. She wraps it all up in one book, no waiting months on a sequel to come out and when you finish one of her books you feel fulfilled and there is a HEA. Just wish she could write faster or clone herself!
Courtney: Ooohhh! I can’t wait for your finished list! Kristen Ashley is my all time favorite and I am always trying to find books that have the KA feel. It’s hard though! Again, I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Thanks!
Celeste: An alpha male with a KA feel? Who wouldn’t want to try that?
Noelle: I LOVE all of her books but this one is one of my favorites. Kristen Ashley is amazing!
Kim: I like the charaters because they have already lived a little, not 25-30 year olds, but a little older. I’ve read most of her books, Rock Chicks, Mountain Man, etc. When any of her new books come out they go to the top of my TBR list.
Natalie: THANK YOU..THANK YOU..THANK YOU…for introducing me to Kristen Ashley…
Jennifer: KA is like my most favorite and when I met her at BookBash 2014 I totally dorked out !!! She’s much more awesome in person !!!
Lori: great idea, can’t wait to see the list, have my one click finger ready!!!
Maggie: Just finished Kristen Ashley book. I love all alpha jerks!!
Jill: I love men who are alpha and mean and d**k-ish like and you are ‘grrr-ing’ at his behavior and thinking walk away girl – aka: Kristen Ashley’s men. 😉 However, they redeem themselves in their own alpha way…
Teresa: All of her series from Rock Chicks to The Burg to The Colorado Series to Dream Man Series to Unfinished Heros Series to the Chaos Series – wow – they all totally rock. There are so many of the men in Kristen’s books that I love and have re-read these books numerous times – my favorites are Knight (OMG!); Creed (Major OMG!!); Tack – whoa!!; Joe “Cal” Callahan (totally HOT!!); Tate; Sam and Hop (a badass biker who can sing rock n roll – WOW)!!! Love the others, but these guys have been my favorites!!! Cannot wait for the rest of her books to come out and the new series she is starting!! Do men like this really exist???? Hahaha!!! Because of her books I actually went to Colorado!
Tracie: I have been an avid fan of Kristen Ashley’s since day one. I started with the Colorado series and thought I had fallen in love. That was until I read the Dream Man series. I fell head over heels with Tack. To this day Motorcycle Man is STILL my fav from KA. But let me tell you all her books are HOT HOT HOT. If you haven’t read the Rock Chick Series, YOU NEED TO. Fall in love with the Hot alpha males from Nightingale Investigations. They are a MUST READ.
Now of course we often don’t have to wait long for the next Kristen Ashley book. She’s the ultimate writing machine, and she’s always got a story or two on the way. Case in point —>The Promise (The ‘Burg Series Book 5) will be out THIS Tuesday!!!
Curious about Kristen Ashley? I want to recommend one right off the bat! You’ll be hooked and you’ll never want to stop after this one —-> Sweet Dreams. I gave it 5 stars and it continues to be a forever favorite out of ALL my favorites! And this one: Mystery Man (also 5 stars!). And then after that one, this one: Motorcycle Man (also 5 stars!). <— Yes, she IS THAT AWESOME!
Have read some by her but need more from HER specifically? I get you! Here are her series, below:

My own recommendations? There aren’t a ton, but I certainly have a few that gave me exactly what I was looking for (when I wasn’t already reading “my precioussssss” from the source, herself, that is… ) 😉
Under Locke by Mariana Zapata <— so obviously this one, as my #1 recommendation for those looking for a KA feel. Of course, the similarities, at times, are a bit glaring, but if all you’re looking for is a good intense romance story with that KA feel, I think this’ll work for ya! Looking for an adult bad-ass male in all of his “Don’t bother me!” glory, and the one girl that he unintendedly hurt, that one girl that crushes on him even though she realizes it’s bad for her, and the one girl that HE eventually looks twice at, as more than just a one night stand potential… then THIS!! Here’s my review of “Under Locke”
Unbeautifully (Undeniable Book 2) by Madeline Sheehan <— a little more (okay, a LOT) more hardcore that Kristen Ashley’s stories, but the overall feel of the bad-boy player type just interested in a good time? You know… the extreme pining of the heroine, the disappointments, hopes and heartaches, and all of that angst that goes with an unconventional “bad boy” love story. Falling for that one guy that is pretty much unattainable. The one-nights stands, and eventually the “more”. The breakups. The makeups. Essentially… no promises and boy is it fun to go through all of that with her! This is one of those, but in a “hardcore” biker format. Here is my review of Unbeautifully and here is the Undeniable Series Reading Order.
Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 1) by Aly Martinez <— This read is almost perfection for me, and I can TOTALLY feel a KA vibe with these. Adults, long-time best friends, dating other long-time best friends, stand-up police officer heroes, and the girls crushing on them from a far. Hilarious (especially when these alpha-males get together – I was SNORTING!!!) but have I mentioned the romantic angst? No? YES!!!! <— LOVED!! Here is my review of Changing Course and here is the Wrecked and Ruined Series Reading Order.
Defying the Odds (Battered Hearts Book 1) by Kele Moon <— Sure, these guys are fighters, not bikers (or cops – oh wait! One is!! :D), but Clay has that PURE KA alpha-male feel. He’s a small town “fixture” and a hero to boot, he’s got his best friends, and all of the respect a man could want (in his town, and in the MMA). But he’s moody, grumpy, uninterested and no-nonsense. Everyone knows this about him. That is, everyone but the new girl in town, just trying to get a fresh start (and in hiding from her ex). He can’t help but feel her pull, and she can’t help but ignore, and override his surly nature. In turn, his protective nature comes out in full force, to the surprise of everyone in his entourage. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Clay is my absolute favorite. Here is my review of Defying the Odds, and here is the Battered Hearts Series Reading Order.
Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1) by J.R. Ward <— Natasha reminded me of this series, and yep! They may be vampires, but they are a “brotherhood” and are the ultimate bad-ass heroes. Dirty mouths, bad attitudes, resisting relationships, and yet being swept away in love, when that special girl comes along, no matter how hard they deny it. Oh they make mistakes… BOY DO THEY EVER!!!! And that’s what makes this entire series DELICIOUS. Don’t let the “paranormal” aspect scare you. Looking for guys with a KA feel. THESE GUYS!!! The ultimate protectors, but so flawed, they’re irresistible. But first ya gotta get over the heartache they ’cause us. 😉 YAY HEARTACHE!! Here is my review of Dark Lover and here is the The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series Reading Order.
Sandra: I want to read a book where the guy and girl hate each other but fall in love…. I read all of KA books… any suggestions?
Yep, Sandra. I think we’ve got ’em!
Check out the Kristen Ashley “feel” reader recommendations:
Move the Sun (Signal Bend Series Book 1) by Susan Fanetti <— Sasha suggests this series! “Thanks to whoever recommended Susan Fanetti’s series. Isaac is my first ever biker book boyfriend!! Am already starting book 3. The books have a Kristen Ashley vibe…” Here is the Signal Bend Series Reading Order. And Becky agrees:
Becky: What can i say. I am running out of books to read. Kristen ashley is a jewel. Love her books. Love the stories and i feel like the character of each single book i read. It makes me enjoy my life, my love. I love susan fanetti also. Both KA and SF have the gift of putting real life stories into words and i can just feel myself laughing and crying with every book i read. Makes life so much better. I look forward after work and going home everyday fir my date night with my favorite authors. I read them over and over again.
Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 1) by Aly Martinez <— Danielle recommends these: “These books have a Kristen Ashley feel to them for me and I didnt want the story to end where it did..I wanted more!”
Unbeautifully Loved (Breathe Again) by Emma Grayson <— Tracie suggests this one: “When I was reading that I felt like KA big time. Good story too”
Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City #1) by Penny Reid <— Jennifer suggests this one! “Well I would say this is comparable in “feel” to the Rock Chick series: Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid. Why? Alpha-male who works security, smart witty (though she doesn’t try to be witty) female, and a group of women friends who kind of get into trouble and kick major booty. Also very funny like Rock Chick.” Here is the Knitting in the City Series Reading Order.
Deep Down (OGs Book 1) by Elle Aycart <— Natasha recommends this one! “I found DEEP DOWN by Elle Aycart to have that alpha feel. Also, the BDB series by J.R. Ward might be a paranormal one, but those vamps talk alpha, walk alpha, and do, ahem, “other” things alpha. 😉 ” <— You got THAT right, Natasha! 😛
Lock & Key (The One-Eyed Jacks MC Book 1) by Cat Porter <— Tina just read this one! “Just finished Lock & Key by Cat Porter. Totally a KA feel. GREAT book! Has everything we look for!”
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1) (Stephanie Plum Novels) by Janet Evanovich <— I’m thinking KA’s “Rock Chick” series for this one, since Bethany suggests it for this list!
Holding Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club Series Book 1) by Lila Rose <— Justine suggests this one, with the blurb, and yep! From that blurb I can definitely feel the KA feel. “Then there’s the hunk’a’licious biker neighbor finally showing interest in her.
If only she isn’t about to face her next obstacle in life, the one she ran from six years ago: her ex husband.” and Carrie agrees: “Holding Out by Author Lila Rose have that awesome cadence of KA that i just l o v e! ”
Until November (Until series Book 1) by Aurora Rose Reynolds <— Carrie suggests this one, too! “Until series by Aurora Rose Reynolds … that awesome cadence of KA that i just l o v e! ” and Emily agrees: “Maryse – I really think you would like this series. I read both Until November and Trevor’s book and LOVED them both. Definitely a KA feel to these books with the hot Alpha males. I really can’t wait until book three!!! 🙂” and Suzanne too: “If you like possessive alpha males then you’ll love this one. A bit of a KA feel to it.” Here is the Until Series Reading Order.
Love In Rewind (Audio Fools Book 1) by Tali Alexander <— Lee recommends this one BIG TIME! “...is hot as hell, the scenes are OFF the charts.. warning: you will jump your other half like a nympho, stalk BOB, or endure a long cold shower .. KA feeling It was fast paced, original, so well structured and the story was different, the characters are engaging lovable and totally addictive, had that little fun element that makes you laugh out loud at 3am in the morning.. Louis is ALPHA! What I loved the most about this book was there was music content and the facility to click-link it to the actual song through my tablet and hear it. what a brilliant idea..”
Nauti and Wild (Nauti Boys) by Lora Leigh <— Courtney recommends these! “A series that I recently read that kind of reminded me of them was the Nauti Boys by Lora Leigh.”
Axel (Corps Security Book 1) by Harper Sloan <— Candace suggests these: “Corps Security series by Harper Sloan!!!!” Here is the Corps Security Series Reading Order.
Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy <— Jessica recommends books by this author! “Kate McCarthy is a definite! Her give me series is a KA read after must! Alpha males, car chases, witty banter and they make me swoon!”
Give Me Love by Kate McCarthy <— and Kim recommends this series! “Maryse you should add Kate McCarthy’s Give Me series to this list (Give Me Love, Give Me Strength and Give Me Grace (releasing 7/10). These books absolutely rock- they feature a bunch of Australian badass alpha hotties (affectionately dubbed the Badass Brigade of Hotties), some rock stars, their families, and a lot of action and humor! I love this series and it reminds me SO much of the Rock Chick series”
Cole (The Ride Series Book 1) by Megan O’Brien <— Cindi’s suggestion!
Razer’s Ride (The Last Riders Book 1) by Jamie Begley <— Jessica recommends this one: “I recommend The Last Rider’s Series by Jamie Begley. It is intertwined with her VIP Room Series. All the books have a Strong female heroine. The books also connect seamlessly.”
Game Changer (Hells Saints Motorcycle Club Book 1) by Paula Marinaro <— Lin says: “What to read after KA? I usually read KA to get me out of a book funk. But if you must insist, The Game Changer is a good one.”
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Pocket Books Paranormal Romance) by Molly Harper <— Ashley says: “For a laugh out loud read a little similar to Kristen Ashley (yet different too) try the Naked Werewolf series by Molly Harper. The first one had me laughing so hard that my husband came to check on me!” <— I AGREE!!! LOVED book #1 and MUST continue reading these! (Here’s my own review of book #1)
Marked. Part I: The missing Link by J.M. Sevilla <— Kristine says: “I just finished Marked Part 1: The Missing Link by J.M. Sevilla and WOW! I can honestly say that I know why this scored 5stars on Amazon. What an amazing read……full of gritty suspense, an unbelievably hot Alpha Man and his incredibly spunky female counterpart. If you are a Kristen Ashley fan I dare say you need to but this what a steal!!”
A Reason To Breathe by C.P. Smith <— Marscha suggests this one! ” It has a HOT Alpha sheriff ( and i know you like your alpha man) ,a sassy reporter, plenty of steamy sex and a serial killer. The book has that KA feel about it but mrs Smith gives it her own signature style of writing. Love love loved this book!!” and Linda suggested it, too! “OK guys I love KA and I have the perfect read with that same feel. It’s called A Reason To Breathe by C.P. Smith. Trust me you will love it!!!”
Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas <— Recommended by Bev: “Ok always hard when I love an author’s style to compare because they never really match. So saying that I’m going to rec the other author I love Lisa Kleypas. Specifically her historicals. You’ll find her heroes on a lot of romance readers favorite lists. Her books are seriously romantic. The heroes are usually attracted to the heroines right away but take awhile to fall in love or admit it. And they are definitely alpha. I always feel like I would want to be friends with her heroines much like with KA’s. Other similarities they are funny with witty conversation, the characters are often changing and discovering themselves, the details and descriptions are wonderful, importance of friends and dfamily, and flashed out side characters. Alot of people love her contemporary books but for me it’sthe historicals total fan girl. Dreaming of You is a common favorite of her fans because of Derek Craven. An amazing hero. Her Wallflower series is great to. Especially Devil in Winter.”
Playing For Keeps (A Neighbor From Hell Series Book 1) by R.L. Mathewson <— suggested by TWO of our fellow readers, Monica says: ” R.L. Mathewson has a bit of that same KA vibe. With both strong heroes and heroines that shouldn’t fit but totally do.” and Debbie, and Tammy agree, too! And I must agree! YES!!! 😀 These have more of a comedic value to ’em, but the feel is there, and I absolutely loved them! Here is my review of book #1: Playing for Keeps (A Neighbor from Hell Novel) (and here is the Neighbors From Hell Series Reading Order)
Fighting Temptation (Men Of Honor Book 1) by K.C. Lynn <— Shanda suggests these!! “You definitely need to add Fighting Temptation and Sweet Temptation by Author KC Lynn. This series is amazing! Hot alphas and great heroines.” and Lori agrees! “^^^ yes Fighting and Sweet Temptation do remind me of KA”
Friend-Zoned by Belle Aurora <— Sabrina recommends this one! “You are forgetting a series…. Friend-Zoned series by Belle Aurora. This series is awesome. Very much like the Rock Chick series. Its very funny”
Fighting for Flight (The Fighting Series Book 1) by JB Salsbury <— Jules suggests this series! “Hay Maryse, I like J.B Salisbury’s Fighting Series for a KA book hangover. Alpha males, a bit angsty, a bit of action. The guys are a bit like her “hot bunch” in that their lives are all connected and we get to meet new heroines in each story” (here is the Fighting Series Reading Order).
Razing Kayne (Walking A Thin Blue Line) by Julieanne Reeves <— Jenn suggests this one! “Razing Kayne by Julieanne Reeves is another book that is a lot like KA. Hot positive alpha male and a crime/ suspense background. I just loved it!” (Hey! I read this one! 🙂 Here is my review).
JUNE 18th 2016 UPDATE!!!
New Species series by Laurann Dohner <— Hadeel suggests this one! “Try Laurann Dohner, her series has the same alpha male vibe as KA. Currently reading New Species series and loving it!”
Hyde series by Layla Frost <— Sabrina suggests this one!
The Deep in Your Veins Series by Suzanne Wright <— Sarah suggest this one!
Lani Lynn Vale <— JMP recommends everything from this author (and it’s true… I read one and he was an alpha-male cop!!): “Lani Lynn Vale is an auto buy for me. She has several series: Freebirds, Heros of the Dixie Wardens MD and Code 11 KPD SWAT, all hot, alpha men and quirky women.” And Karen agrees!
Karen: “Her Freebird Series is AWESOME. The Alpha ex military guys and the sassy and hysterically funny ladies that they TRY to control, along with the suspense of the leading lady landing in trouble will keep you glued to the pages. Lani has come out with a the first book in the spin off of Freebirds, Lights to my Siren. Yes these are hot fire fighters. I highly recommend Lani Lynn Vale to be added to the “What to read after Kristen Ashley” list.”
Joanna Wylde <— Skyla reminds us of this bad-ass alpha-male/bikers author, and I agree Skyla. Perfect suggestion!
MH has a BUNCH of alpha-male suggestions for us!
- Tessa Bailey (really any of her books but particularly Line of Duty Series),
- G.A. Aiken/Shelly Laurenston (same person – paranormal genre w/hot guys/shifters, enough angst and hilarity),
- Lani Lynn Vale (mix of kooky/cool female characters and badass cops/firemen/SWAT/paramedics/bikers),
- Kresley Cole’s The Professional Series (Russian dark alpha awesomeness) or Immortals After Dark series (paranormal, angst, hotness and hilarity to keep you hooked), and
- Jessica Clare (Hitman series in particular for the grittier/hotter alpha characters).
- I also love Lorelei James. Having been raised by a cowboy and having spent some tough years in rural/ranchy areas, I think for me she injects alpha males (and sometimes alphaholes!) into real life amazingly well. Like flashback-to-my-own-20s-angst well. And she nails “take no prisoners/support my family with whatever it takes” women too.”
- Also agree about R.L. Mathewson…Neighbors From Hell series but also her Pyte/Sentinel (paranormal) series. I loved the early years of JR Ward, but the last 10 books or so I’ve felt she is just on a bit of a money grab. RL Mathewson, Kresley Cole and Shelly Laurenston sort of pick up the elements that I loved about JR Ward and refresh/improve on them.
Linda Howard <— TriciaSue recommends these books: “before KA my favorite author was Linda Howard – her older books “Dream Man” “Son of the Morning” and “Cry No More”.”
Tracy Ellen <— Katrina recommends these! “I recommend Tracy Ellen’s books. Start with A Date with Fate and you will drool over Luke Drake and laugh at and love Anabel Axelrod. She also has one book out that should be the beginning of an awesome rom-zom series (yes that’s romantic zombie)- just check it out- Acadia’s Law: Book One, Undying Love Series.”
Kate recommends these! “What do I read after KA? A different series by KA. BUT for the sake of more good reading – Vi Keeland’s MMA Fighter series is awesome. Jay Crownover’s Marked Men is more intense with a little less banter but good all the way through. Also, for a paranormal end of things – Teresa Gabelman’s Protectors. They are full of KA style humor and hotness.”
Darynda Jones <— Tami recommends these! “I recommend the Grave series by Darynda Jones. Smart witty banter, with HOT alpha Reyes.”
Unbelonging Series <— Margie found us this one! “Love KA and am always looking for similar styles and characters. Read Unbelonging by Sabrina Stark and really liked it – it was part one of two full length books, and while the ending was a cliffhanger it was a good one. The second book wasn’t as good, butt looking forward to more from this author.”
Heaven and Hell by Kristen Ashley <— Kini remind us that MORE Kristen Ashley is the way to go saying: “The most under appreciated KA book is the fantastic Heaven and Hell. It’s a stand alone. And it’s got all the usual KA elements. There’s just something about Kia and Sam that gets me every single time. It’s my go to comfort book. I’d vote Sam as my number one KA man.”
The MacGregors by Paula Quinn <— Michelle recommends these for the KA feel! “Ok, this is going way back, but this author made me FEEL the same way as I do after I read a KA book: Paula Quinn’s The MacGregor series and the spin-off, Children of the Mist). I have read and re-read these historicals so many times. They have it all: fantastic dialogue, super hot alpha males, characters that re-appear in later books, action that keeps the story moving, hot & steamy scenes, humor, strong heroines. I just LOVE this author. I remember the stories and the characters years later, and that’s when I know it has that “KA Feel”.”
G-Men the Series by Andrea Smith <— Shannon says: “I’m not sure if someone mentioned it yet but I was thinking The G Man series by Andrea Smith belonged on the list as well.”
Georgia suggests these! “Another series is Elite Ops by lora Leigh and Maya Banks – KGi Series. All have Alpha Males and very strong female leads.”

What to read after KA? I usually read KA to get me out of a book funk. But if you must insist, The Game Changer is a good one.
Thanks Lin! I must insist. 😉
Oh!! Which author? There are a few…
Cole by Megan OBrien
I recommend The Last Rider’s Series by Jamie Begley. It
Is intertwined with her VIP Room Series. All the books have a
Strong female heroine. The books also connect seamlessly.
Paula Marinero is the author, and I really enjoyed it.
I recommend The Needing Moore Series by Julie Richmond. Schooner defiantly has the KA alpha thing going on!
OK guys I love KA and I have the perfect read with that same feel. It’s called A Reason To Breathe by C.P. Smith. Trust me you will love it!!!
Ok always hard when I love an author’s style to compare because they never really match.
Maybe should mention a title.
Dreaming of You is a common favorite of her fans because of Derek Craven. An amazing hero.
Her Wallflower series is great to. Especially Devil in Winter.
Thanks Bev!! I’m adding it. 😀
Love Lisa Kleypas and loved the Wallflower series.
I definitely agree that the Corps Security series by Harper Sloan belongs on this list. And the Until series by Aurora Rose Reynolds is really good too.
Until November, total KA influence. But I’m not a fan of those, sorry.
Razing Kayne by Julieanne Reeves is another book that is a lot like KA. Hot positive alpha male and a crime/ suspense background. I just loved it!
Hay Maryse, I like J.B Salisbury’s Fighting Series for a KA book hangover. Alpha males, a bit angsty, a bit of action. The guys are a bit like her “hot bunch” in that their lives are all connected and we get to meet new heroines in each story
You are forgetting a series….
Friend-Zoned series by Belle Aurora. This series is awesome. Very much like the Rock Chick series. Its very funny
LOVE Aly Martinez books! Impatiently waiting for the next one!
I can’t say thank you enough. Kristen Ashley ROCKS. It really is hard for any book to be as good as Kristen. She is a goddess … I’ve read all her books at least twice. I’m internally grateful for your introduction to get books. Their all amazing! Thank you !!!!
Maryse you should add Kate McCarthy’s Give Me series to this list (Give Me Love, Give Me Strength and Give Me Grace (releasing 7/10). These books absolutely rock- they feature a bunch of Australian badass alpha hotties (affectionately dubbed the Badass Brigade of Hotties), some rock stars, their families, and a lot of action and humor! I love this series and it reminds me SO much of the Rock Chick series
Yes I agree Kate McCarthy’s books are amazing. Hot alpha guys. Her style def reminds me of KA. I have read all of her amazing books and I have loved them all.
I agree with you ladies Kate McCarthys Give Me Series definetly reminded me of Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick series. Hot badass men, good humour and close ties with all the characters. I would definetly recommend reading this sires to any KA fan.
Kate McCarthy’s Give Me Series is seriously HOT and BADASS!! I think you would love them!! There is some action and some amazingly hot men. Characters from OZ that will rock your world!! <3
Oh btw..Kristen Ashley rocks too..I have read many of her books too and she is also a go to girl 😉
OK, I’m ready to jump on the KA bandwagon! 😉 Was wondering the three books you recommend (Sweet Dreams, Mystery Man and Motorcycle Man), are not the first of their series. Do I have to read the series in order?
Cheryl, it’s best to read them in order HOWEVER… Sweet Dreams can be read first since book #1 in that series doesn’t really connect to book #2 until much later in the series, so you don’t miss anything, either way. 🙂 Most of us read Sweet Dreams first, and then backtracked. 🙂
Wow… Thank you Maryse for including LOVE IN REWIND on this list
<3 TA
Fantastic, I just put up all of your suggestions! This list is looking great! 😀
Another series is Elite Ops by lora Leigh and Maya Banks – KGi Series. All have Alpha Males and very strong female leads.
I have read so many excellent books in the past week that I am just reeling from book hangovers. Just finished the latest Kenyon one. Just can’t go wrong with anything this woman writes. She’s a brilliant author.
Can’t resist your gushing endorsement of your forever favorite Tate- starting Sweet Dreams!! 😉
I’m not sure if someone mentioned it yet but I was thinking The G Man series by Andrea Smith belonged on the list as well.
Agree with Linda. Just finished Reason to Breathe. Very KA’ish. Loved the book. Can’t wait to read more from C P Smith.
I think I’ve read 85% of this list…. some multiple times. Although, I didn’t realize Give me Love was party of a series… 🙂
Ok, this is going way back, but this author made me FEEL the same way as I do after I read a KA book: Paula Quinn’s The MaGgregor series and the spin-off, Children of the Mist). I have read and re-read these historicals so many times. They have it all: fantastic dialogue, super hot alpha males, characters that re-appear in later books, action that keeps the story moving, hot & steamy scenes, humor, strong heroines. I just LOVE this author. I remember the stories and the characters years later, and that’s when I know it has that “KA Feel”.
Thank you for this list! I just counted all of the Kristen Ashley books I have on my kindle and there are 39! I love her and look forward to reading the list of books you provided 🙂
The most under appreciated KA book is the fantastic Heaven and Hell. It’s a stand alone. And it’s got all the usual KA elements. There’s just something about Kia and Sam that gets me every single time. It’s my go to comfort book. I’d vote Sam as my number one KA man.
Maryse! I’ve been waiting for this list ever since I started following your blog years ago. Thank you!
My pleasure, Nina! I needed this list, too! 😀
This one really reminded me of KA…Holding out by Lila Rose part of the Born to Ride anthology
Recently discovered Suzanne Wright, I absolutely loved her Phoenix Pack series, they gave me a KA feel with the alpha jerks who say the wrong thing then make it all better 🙂
Love KA and am always looking for similar styles and characters. Read Unbelonging by Sabrina Stark and really liked it – it was part one of two full length books, and while the ending was a cliffhanger it was a good one. The second book wasn’t as good, butt looking forward to more from this author.
Kristen Ashley is my favorite author. Ever. I don’t think anyone compares. I get in a book funk all the time and all in have to do is re-read a KA book to instantly get back in the groove. I dont even think i could pick a favorite if you made me. No idea how she does it but I get sucked in and never want the story to end! I read so fast the first time I read her book that I always have to go back and read it again just to enjoy!
Thank you so much for this list! I LOVE Kristen Ashley, and after reading “The promise” I couldn’t start a new book, so I started rereading KA lol. I needed guidance to pick a new book to read 🙂 I’m starting with “Under locke” yay!
I agree with the BDB books! THey are a perfect read for those who love the alpha male 😀
One of the book there, I read sometime ago – A Reason to Breath – and… I hated it!!! It was so bad, so bad, I could not finish it (that NEVER happens)! The hero was okay, but the heroine, OMG, so stupid, so childish, I wanted to kill her.
I can see why this would make people think of KA. The couple is older, the hero is an alpha, there’s a serial killer on the lose, and the heroine will try to meddle in the investigation, finding trouble. But it lacks Kristen Ashley’s finesse to make him an alpha we want to love and not kick in the shin and her a clueless , but lovable heroine, not soneone you want to kill 😛
Sorry for the outburst, but I love KA and this book is so far from her work in terms of quality it’s not funny. And sorry for my mistakes writing, english is not my first language 🙂 Love your blog!
Kristen Ashley is my absolute favorite author. Her brand of characters and humor are the perfect read for me. That being said I am always on the hunt for that type of read. Jamie Begley and C.P. Smith were mentioned above and I totally agree they are the bomb!! They are also listed on Amazon as some of my favorite authors. But one I did not see mentioned is Lani Lynn Vale. Her Freebird Series is AWESOME. I highly recommend Lani Lynn Vale to be added to the “What to read after Kristen Ashley” list.
I recommend the Grave series by Darynda Jones. Smart witty banter, with HOT alpha Reyes.
What do I read after KA? A different series by KA. BUT for the sake of more good reading – Vi Keeland’s MMA Fighter series is awesome. Jay Crownover’s Marked Men is more intense with a little less banter but good all the way through. Also, for a paranormal end of things – Teresa Gabelman’s Protectors. They are full of KA style humor and hotness.
I recommend Tracy Ellen’s books. Start with A Date With Fate and you will drool over Luke Drake and laugh at and love Anabel Axelrod. She also has one book out that should be the beginning of an awesome rom-zom series (yes that’s romantic zombie)- just check it out- Acadia’s Law.
Maryse
I’m dying to find more books like KA Fantasy land books. They were awesome and caught me totally by surprise.
I lost a lot of sleep whilst reading these. Any recommendations? Sort
Maryse,
What can i say.
LOVED until series
LOVED playing for keeps series
I love the books where there is an alpha male and the girl has a mouth on her (challenges the guy, the whole back and forth argument) keeps the story entertaining.
Under Locke was great! Just finished all KA books and was desperate for another book with the same kind of possessive alpha male hero.
before KA my favorite author was Linda Howard – her older books “Dream MAn” “Son of the Morning” and “Cry no more”.
I find Tessa Bailey (really any of her books but particularly Line of Duty Series), G.A. Aiken/Shelly Laurenston (same person – paranormal genre w/hot guys/shifters, enough angst and hilarity), Lani Lynn Vale (mix of kooky/cool female characters and badass cops/firemen/SWAT/paramedics/bikers), Kresley Cole’s The Professional Series (Russian dark alpha awesomeness) or Immortals After Dark series (paranormal, angst, hotness and hilarity to keep you hooked), and Jessica Clare (Hitman series in particular for the grittier/hotter alpha characters). I also love Lorelei James. Having been raised by a cowboy and having spent some tough years in rural/ranchy areas, I think for me she injects alpha males (and sometimes alphaholes!) into real life amazingly well. Like flashback-to-my-own-20s-angst well. And she nails “take no prisoners/support my family with whatever it takes” women too.
Also agree about R.L.
Joanna Wylde’s series a Reaper’s MC
Lani Lynn Vale is an auto buy for me. She has several series: Freebirds, Heros of the Dixie Wardens MD and Code 11 KPD SWAT, all hot, alpha men and quirky women.
I came across KA books by accident, the first I read was “Motorcycle Man” and although I had to power through Tate’s somewhat obnoxious comments to Tyra, I did get him in the end.
So now I have read about 10-12 more, and although I do enjoy them, what I loved about them at the beginning is precisely what is causing me to lose interest now.
At first I thought “Wow! How cool to have a different sort of male lead from other books, what a strong hero, etc.” But now I see that every book is pretty much exactly the same.
And yes, I think it is great for a guy to cherish and take care of his woman, but in some of these books it is almost to the point where the lady doesn’t have a say or an original thought. She starts out with one, but the uber-alpha just gives her yet another mind-blowing orgasm and she acquiesces to his point. (Time and time again.)
I thought Tess in “Wild Man” was stronger then that due to how wonderfully she handled the cop while being interrogated in the first chapter, but that strong, independent streak only lasted so long.
It’s good to be one with your partner, I get that, but too many of these ladies are losing themselves completely to these hot guys.
I know that my opinion will not be a popular one on here, I’m not sorry that I don’t agree with everyone else, as we all have our own opinions and I’m happy you all enjoy her so very much. I also have enjoyed her books, I just wish she’d shake them up a little somehow. Maybe have an uber alpha female?
The Deep In Your Veins Series by Suzanne Wright.
Hyde and Seek Series by Layla Frost.
Try Laurann Dohner, her series has the same alpha male vibe as KA. Currently reading New Species series and loving it!
I just read Road to Desire (Dogs of fire) by Piper Davenport. It gave me a KA feel, I wish is was longer and a little more developed but it was and great book and I enjoyed it.
I’m so happy to hear some Linda Howard comments on here!!!! I have a feeling I’m one of the “older” readers here. Linda Howard had been my all time favorite authors!!! She has been writing about Alpha men for years, esp back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Couldn’t get enough of her. I’m not as much a fan of her newer stuff. Not like how I adore KA these days!!
Layla Frost – Hyde and Seek (Freaking Fantastic)
Love this! Thanks!
The Killers series by Brynne Asher works too
