I’m not much of a crier… or so I like to think. I mean, honestly!! I’ve read a TON of books over the years (especially in the last three) and I can only recall a handful that affected me to full-blown tears. Oh sure, some of ’em made me teary-eyed, but I’m talking about the kind of tears that can’t be easily controlled with a dab or two. The kind that make your face crumple. Oh yah… you know it!! Once you face does that, you’re a goner. LOL! Some even went so far as to affect me to the point that I couldn’t cry, even though my whole emotional world was flipped on it’s head (The Hunger Games trilogy, Where She Went and even the latest book that I loved… “Stolen“). They affected me so much, and yet… I just stared. As if I was in shock. No tears. I think they blew my “tear-fuse”.
But I digress. This is my crying list.
I thought it would be fun to explore the eight books that affected me to the point of tears. Where I had to run and hide from my husband so he wouldn’t notice. Or where I had to get out of bed, and finish a book on the couch so that my sobs wouldn’t jostle him awake. It doesn’t always work. As much as I hate crying, when it comes to books, I’ve completely opened myself up to that. If someone says a book made them cry, that’s almost a magic word to me now. I’m always up for that kind of intensity, and ready for the challenge.
So here is my list (in the correct crying order)… I’d love to see yours!
New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2) By Stephenie Meyer – As far as I can remember (book-wise) this is the first one that made me cry.
Oh don’t smirk!! So many of you cried with this one too!! I know it, ’cause wayyyy back when we were all Twilight newbies, this is the one scene that we couldn’t not discuss. You know the scene, it’s really not even a spoiler now, since the movie. But the book affected me so much harder, and I remember the tears just running down my face when I realized it was going to happen.
Edward dumps Bella in the woods. The whole part leading up to it (his acting distant)… oh yes. I saw it coming. But when it did, I felt her agony over it. I remember exactly where I was, when it happened. Reading in a nice cozy bubble bath (back then I was still reading print books, and so the most that could happen was that the book would get wet – that didn’t worry me much). Nice thing about reading in a bathtub? You can cry all you want and blame the soap in your eyes! That’s the only thing I miss about print books. Can’t bring my iPad in the bath with me. *sigh* (I didn’t review this one ’cause it was back in the days before my blog. Oh well).
Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5) by J.R. Ward
V’s book. Vishous was certainly one of my favorites, but he didn’t beat “Z” for me. ‘Cept “Zsadist’s” book didn’t make me cry. I probably got teary-eyed, with it (as I did with Rhage’s book), but out of all of the BDB books, the only one that had me mopping up my face with a box of Kleenex next to me was Vishous. And it wasn’t just one moment. That certain “hot chocolate” scene in the kitchen started me off. Full on crying… and I sniffled
and mopped pretty much all the way through, after that. Couldn’t be contained. I remember exactly where I was, for that one too. On my nice cushy bed, I believe it was a Saturday as it was the middle of the afternoon, bright sun shining through my window, and me, in the middle of a pile of used tissue balls, crying like a baby. At least I was quiet… ’cause for the next one… oh no. The sobs and the hiccups and the noises… ohhhh the noises. Check out my review here.
The Host: A Novel by Stephenie Meyer
I’d say that this is the book that had me crying the most, the hardest and the longest. To the point where my husband was simply baffled as to what to do. He’d never seen me do that before. On the couch. Sobbing. OUT LOUD! He said “So the book finally got good, did it?” (’cause I struggled through the first quarter of this very long read, telling him I was having such a hard time getting into it). I wailed “I haaaa-aa-aateee thii-iiissssss boo-ooo-oook!!! waaaaaaa!!!”
Other readers knew. They warned me. They kept telling me to power through, and once I was past the slow part, it would become an all-time favorite. And they are SO right. Once the angst, and the connections, and the hurt began, I was hooked. But when the waterworks started, I couldn’t stop ’em. My husband gently placed the book aside, and put on a funny movie. I felt so much better. Once the movie was done, I thought I had a handle on myself, and was ready to get back to my awesome story. But I didn’t have a handle on it at all. I swear from just a few moments back into my book, I started sobbing again. At that point my husband chuckled and left me to my own devices. Check out my review here.
How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo
I think this one made me cry as much as The Host! And THIS is the one that forced me out of bed a little past midnight to sob alone, huddled in the corner of my couch, so as not to wake my husband. But I didn’t stop at just sobbing. Nope. I was furious, and decided to go on an email rant-bender, raving like a lunatic!! I let it all hang out for my reading-buddy to see when she woke up. *blush* I said bad words and everything!!
Still though, this too, is one of my all time favorite books forever, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to fall in love with a rock star (or two), deal with the ins-and-outs of the music industry, and then get your heart fictionally broken. Fan-freakin-tastic book!! Check out my review here.
Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain Series) by Kristen Ashley
The interaction and “couple” issues in this one rang true, despite the unusual relationship circumstances. From the attraction, the getting-to-know-you stage, to the established “togetherness”. The conversations, the cuddling to the squabbles and huge misunderstandings.
And then there’s a certain heart wrenching scene. I thought I had arrived at the “crying point” a few times, the build-up was so intense. But when I hit *the scene*, I knew I was there. Silent tears, but tears nonetheless. My heart was aching. Check out my review here.
The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton
A book that, at the time, was completely out of my comfort zone, and yet touched me deeply. Despite all of the scenes that I couldn’t relate to but read out of simple fascination and the entertainment value… something was coming. I knew it was, but I was quite distracted by everything else to simply let it simmer on the back burner. I thought I’d be okay when I got there. As a matter of fact, my husband’s noisy video game playing in my vicinity should have been enough to keep me somewhat grounded in the “real world”. To not allow me to become one with the book and the moody atmosphere. But the writing was such that I was right there with the characters.
And then it hit me. It sucked me in and nothing could change my focus. So how does a book about whips, ropes, and other stuff make one cry, other than in pain? Check out my review to find out. (P.S. The book is temporarily unavailable as the author is having it re-released shortly)
Slammed by Colleen Hoover
Another one of my favorite books forever!! I’d almost say the perfect book, as it had it all. Romantic intensity, some shock value, and emotional angst (on many levels), but I resisted the sad part. It was there, I was reading it. I was feeling it, but I was doing my best to fight it. My pathetic
attempts at remaining dry-eyed while this character’s world was evolving through an emotional crisis… simply a heartbreaking situation. And it was of no use. I went down. Cried and cried and okay sure…. I sobbed. And I stayed in bed with my sleeping husband that time!! Didn’t even care if I woke him! I think on an unconscious level, I just didn’t want to be alone right then. Check out my review here.
Connected (Twists of Fate) by Jolyn Pallata
Short, sweet and fun! Kind of fluffy even. So how did THIS one, with it’s lighter feel, make me cry, and not, say… hrmmm…the 3rd book in the Hunger Games? Well that one doesn’t count. Mockingjay was one of the ones that blew my tear-fuse.
But this one? I dunno guys, but it did! Okay, I did control it with a few easy tissue dabs, and my face probably didn’t squinch up, or anything… but a few tears made it to my cheeks, so it makes the list. I just know that at one point I was so connected with the characters that were connected, that I felt it. Big time! Sometimes it’s nice to have a nice casual cry with a book that isn’t so intense. Check out my review here.
The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher
I didn’t cry at all… even when it got to the end (despite the painful romantic issues that came about). But despite my “no tears” success, I couldn’t stop thinking about the book. It was burned in my brain and I thought I had “understood” the ending, so why cry? All was well in good in my book world. Apparently… I was off. Way off. It didn’t take long before I realized my version of the “ending” was somehow… all in my head. My fellow reading enthusiasts began pointing out the obvious (I dunno how I missed that) and that’s when the tears started. At work. All. Day. Long. So yes. This is officially a book that made me cry, and cry hard for that matter. I mean, you know if you’re crying at work, it must be bad. Oh and… word to the wise. Don’t listen to the author’s book soundtrack if you’re trying to stop crying. Those songs just amplified my pain.
So I *think* that’s it so far. I have read plenty of heart wrenching books, where I felt the pain with characters (the list is long), but THESE are the ones that actually provoked a physical reaction out of me. And like usual… this list is a work in progress. I’m always looking for a book that makes me react (whether it be in anger, joy or full on tears), so I’d love to hear what one’s have affected you this strongly.
WOOPS!!! ONE MORE add-on (so now it’s officially TEN books that made me cry) and I’m a bit embarrassed because this totally seems like it so doesn’t fit here, but I dare any of you to pick this book up in a bookstore, and try to read it without crying in public. And I MEAN CRYING.
Love You Forever by Robert N Munsch
It’s a kid’s book and I have no idea why, but I was compelled to pick it up. While my husband perused techie books, and I was “supposed” to be checking out the romance section, I stood at a table, in the middle of a full Barnes and Noble and cried… and cried… and cried. Mopping my tears up as fast as they streamed down with my sleeves, but it was of no use. I know people saw me. And if they read the book I was reading… if they had ANY inclination as to the what book was making me react that way… they knew. They understood.

hahahaha I’m just like you. It’s not an easy thing to make me cry with a book. It’s not that i don’t fell them, wow i do. Its just that normally when this happen it’s because i’m so deep in the characters at the point that i don’t know if i’m me or if i’m them. hahahaha And i’m used to listen music while i’m reading… so things get worse. They became my soundtrack somehow and then when i listen the music i remember the book.
Well i cried more than this, but was these books that made me stop reading so i could get a gripe.
1. The Host – The book that ruined everything for me. It was the worst of all. I had to stop to read it a million times so i could take a deep breath because i was crying so much that i couldn’t breath anymore. It scared me.
2. New Moon – This book was so hard, the whole time. I cried from the beginning to the end. And it was my first “trauma” too.
3. Blood Promise – Christ! This was another book that i cried the whole time. Rose’s pain was too much for me. I had to lock myself in my room and put my pillow in my face.
4. Destined for an early grave – I cried like a baby when he *spoiler* her and then when she *spoiler* him. God that was bad for me.
6. The Gamble – God i felt her pain really deep. Probably because i relate myself so much with her that everything got more intesense than it should be.
5. Trust in Advertising – Oh that end… I couldn’t stop crying.
(Nods head with big grin on face) Yup I’m right there with ya Maryse – I’m not a big cryer at all but every now and then one will hit the right spot and I’m sobbing!! Just a few nights ago I read Connected and for such a short story I was completely absorbed and at that moment (no spoilers of course) I was praying my hubby didn’t walk in right then cuz I was bawling!!!
The other biggie for me was a particularly heart wrenching scene in the first book in the Lords of the Undearworld Series by Gena Showalter “The Darkest Night” between Ashlyn and Maddox…..loved me some Madox 🙂
The reluctant Dom – had me doing the ugly cry for sure I couldn’t breath. I knew what was coming but it still got me.
Sweet gum tree – had me going at a couple parts
Lover reborn – and there were a few parts in this one that had me going.
Those for me are it so far I have much more reading to do but when I want an emotional read I wanna really cry and for me the reluctant Dom did that.
I will have to check out some of the books you put!! I feel like I have read a lot of books but not enought apparently hahaha
I am a crybaby. I cry in commercials, a lot of books have made me tear up, but the ones that have affected me on a deeper level are:
1. Slammed: I had never cried so much in a book, I teared up a lot on the first half, but from the moment her mother told her I did not stop crying for the whole book, not even when I finished, it stayed with me for days after I read it. One of my best friends game similar news on that same week and the whole situation was/is very present for me *tearing up just writing this :'(
2. Acheron: This was my # 1 up until Slammed, this series is one of my favorites and this is my favorite character and for 15 (?) books we kept getting glimpses of his story, but I don’t think we had an idea of what this character went through. It broke my heart over and over again, specially to think that even though this is fiction to many people suffer like that in real life. His childhood was just horrible.
3. Heart on a Chain: OMG this book, also with the main character having a horrible abusive childhood, I couldn’t believe what I was reading and at times had to put it down because it was too much. And again I kept thinking of all the kids that go through abuse like that every single day, I felt her pain, her fear, it was a tough read.
4.Sophie & Carter: This was a very short read, but very intense. Two very young characters are put in very difficult situation and have no childhood at all.
5.Collision Course: *sigh* so tragic, yet such a wonderful story of healing. I love SC, the way she develops the characters on her books is just amazing, you feel like you know them and you can’t help but be affected the way the are, if they are happy you are too, if they are angry you are too. I felt their pain, very tragic situations, but also felt their growth.
*deep breath* writing this brought all the emotions from the books back…
Ohhhh man I forgot about Acheron that was a big one for me!
I put my kindle in a heavy duty ziploc bag when I want to take it in the tub. Kinda ghetto, but it works! Great list!
1. Slammed-had me crying, crying, then crying some more!
2. Fifty Shades of Grey-yes, it had me crying (end of 1st book), my heart was broken!
3. New Moon-possibly, don’t really remember if I cried while reading the book because I saw the movie first & definitely cried at THAT part!
4. Handle with Care-my 1st Jodi Picoult & boy did that have me bawling!
Lover Awakened *all 8 times I’ve read it*
How to kill a Rockstar definitely ~~how could you NOT w/Paul
Fifty :'( ~~Just because
Point of Retreat~~ Cried way more than Slammed
Conquest ~~ even gay stories broke my heart 🙁 But worth it !!
Those are mine that I can think of~ I cry A LOT, but these were the worst….
Hey Maryse, 3 books made me sob…. 1 being the saddest for me and 3 being my angry crying :/
1. Collision course- I cried almost the whole night because the characters and the pain and love felt so real to me… :’)
2.Lady Luck- when Ty told her that her nightmare was a dream come true to him, I could not stop sobbing at seeing that side to him.
3. Beautiful disaster- when Abby had to listen to Travis with twins… Ughhhh my heart broke…
Those hit me hard!! 🙂
The Bronze Horseman & the sequel Tatiana and Alexander (I was sobbing every few pages starting from about 70% through TBH) LOVE them so much!!!!!
And definitely The Reluctant Dom
Definetly New Moon & How to Kill a Rocstar, but I bawled my eyes out when I read Time Travelers Wife, the ending had me actually saying, through tears, WTF?
Your list is definitely full of great books!! Mine are a little different though. I do strongly agree about The Host. I have never cried as much as I did with that book!
1. After the night- Linda Howard. –OMG! If you have never read this wonderful book, I strongly recommend it to you. It just completely tore me up inside. The way everybody treated Faith and how they seen her just broke my heart for her. The pride she had for herself enough to be strong & face everyone that thought ill of her just made me so envious! And how Gray treated her? After they first be together, what he says to her just blew my mind! But when he let himself feel for her? LOVED IT!
2. How to kill a rock star. —As said above, how the HECK could you not cry!? I loved this book & it will never get old for me!
3. Lady Luck- Kristen Ashley. —When Ty told Lexie to leave & how she felt inside, so torn apart & rejected. It just tore me apart, as well. I balled my eyes out for probably a good 20 minutes before I could actually start reading again!
4. Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward. —God, the complexity of Zsadist & his inner turmoil just whirled my mind & took my heart on a roller coaster. The way Bella loved his unconditionally didn’t help either! I was, as I said, an emotional roller coaster.
5. Three Wishes- Kristen Ashley.
6. Fifty Shades by E.L. James. — Need I say anything? Just wow. Out of all the 50 times I have read all three of the books I will NEVER get over them! Christians past & everything about him brought a tear to my eye or a smile to my face. Who could not love & cry over him?
I’ll shut up now!! (;
HA! Books that made me cry…how long have you got Maryse. I’m a crier, I get too emotionally involved in my books and have a shelf in the kitchen purely for man-sized tissues. My hubby often disappears at 10pm in the evening to get me more because he knows the signs…..and it’s a sigh of there she goes again…why do you put yourself through this hahahaha!!! Ok so it’s hard to choose but I will give you a list of those that stick out the most as in where I almost cried my way through the whole book:
1. Collision Course – S.C Stephens
2. How to Kill a Rockstar – Tiffanie DeBartolo
3. Stolen – Lucy Christopher
4. Slammed – Colleen Hoover
5. Point of Retreat – Colleen Hoover
6. Beyond Eden – Kele Moon
7. Games of The Heart – Kristen Ashley
8. Reason to Breathe – Rebecca Donovan
9. On the Island – Tracey Garvis-Graves
10. Acheron – Sherrilyn Kenyon
I could go on and on…but there you go ;0) xxx
I’m a cryer too and sometimes just a single line in a book can set me off. I’m a sook and I can’t help it haha.
Here ar the 10 that really had me in a mess 🙂
1. How to Kill a Rock Star – Tiffanie DeBartolo
2. Forbidden – Tabitha Suzuma (hard subject matter but this book had me actually sobbing and took me a long time to get over. A truly amazing book)
3. Collision COurse – S C Stephens
4. Slammed – Colleen Hoover
5. Point of Retreat – Colleen Hoover
6. Games of the Heart – Kristen Ashley (I actually rang Gitte after this and cried on the phone to her lol)
7. Beyond Eden – Kele Moon
8. On The Island – Tracey Garvis Greaves
9. Conquest – S J Frost
10. Effortless – S C Stephens
A Special mention for Lady Luck because I did cry a lot in that too – I know that’s technically 11 but I couldn’t leave it off!
Hmmm… this is a tricky one. My list would definitely include:
1. Shadow Kiss / Blood Promise; I read them back to back, almost as one continuous novel. The only reason I paused to draw breath before embarking on Spirit Bound was because it was a Sunday afternoon and the library had shut, making me wait until Monday to collect it!
2. North of Need (Laura Kaye) had me sobbing earlier this year, when Megan left to get some time to herself and Owen was trapped in the house with the snow melting and the heating turned way too high. Yup, triple Kleenex for me
3. Fifty Shades Darker; it hit me harder than FSOG, especially the night when Christian has gone missing – and then at the end in the boathouse, awww 🙂
4. Thoughtless (SC Stephens): the whole triangle was so emotion-building, but I think when Kellan was explaining to Keira just how much she hurt him, that wrecked me.
5. Lover Eternal; especially when Mary sends Rhage away then realises her mistake and comes running back out to him. For some reason I also particularly love the scene in his car, where she asks him to “drive fast”. I’m filling up thinking about it
6. Dear John (Nicholas Sparks); This wasn’t a great book and the ending positively sucked, but I filled up anyway. Sniffed loads and tried to pretend I wasn’t crying.
7. Connected; Yup, you know the part. THAT one. * nods head * got me too.
8. Hot Night (Shannon McKenna); it twisted my emotions as bad-boy Zan and nice-girl Abby kept falling apart at the seams
I’ve got to get onto reading Connected!
and The Reluctant Dom!
The Summer Garden – I hate hate hate hate Alexander .I always thought he was The worst hero ever!! And this last book prove me right .
Sacrificial Magic – The BIG fight between Terrible and Chess was devastating . And The way Stacia Kane describes her feeling in the aftermath it’s very realistic . She just … broke my heart .
Every Harry Potter book from the fourth to the last one .!
Shadow Kissed , Blood Promise – Wow! Most heartbreaking YA books i’ve ever read .
And , also by Richelle Mead , Succubus Dreams and some parts from Succubus Heat .
I did not cry at any of those books. But there is one that got me.
If I stay -Gayle Forman
Taken from my 2012 Reads (not in order):
– Slammed
– Sempre
– Broken
– Effortless
– Love Unscripted
– The Reluctant Dom
I am not a crier either, but some books do get me there, when they do, I know it is a memorable book for me. One that will forever stay with me.
1. Dragonfly in Amber – Even though I knew it was coming, the scene broke my heart and had me sobbing.
2. Destined for an Early Grave – Yes, that scene broke my heart. When he told her…..and then she….Wow, so intense.
3. The Host – That one did it for me too.
4. To Have and to Hold – An historical, but so many heartbreaking scenes. It’s not prettied up for light reading.
I also have a few books to add to my list for intense reading…I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing lol.
These broke my heart, had my eyes & nose red & puffy for hrs…
Of course the infamous The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton
Beyond Eden by Kele Moon
Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
There are others that made me cry, BUT these are the ones that dried out my tear ducts….literally!
Okay you guys have given me a whole new TBR list!!
I loved Kele Moon’s Defying the Odds so now I MUST check out Beyond Eden!!
Jeannie – I’m def. checking out To Have and To Hold. I don;t often read historicals, but I do enjoy them, especially the “not pretty ones”. I LOVED Outlanders…
Cheryl – BROKEN!! ALMOST for me with the tears… It was a difficult and yet wonderful read. I think that was one that blew my tear-fuse.
Missy – that one blew my tear-fuse! LOL!
Mala – now you have me scared. I’m reading Alexander and Tatiana now and am at the halfway point… eeeeep!! But so many have told me it is amazing all the way through, so I’m going to cross my fingers.
Jane: Oh right!! Hot Night. That one was good. And I must read North of Need. That one comes up a lot as a recommendation… and anything Kellan made me tear up. When he was sad… and when he was bad, too.
Oh and connected and “that” part. Couldn’t be helped. I so felt it…
Jenny: I’m scared of Forbidden. Another that has come up a TON, and yet… eeeeeep!!! Oh and I’m DYING to read Collision Course now. I LOVE S.C.’s writing. She has a way of making you visualize every scene as if it was real. All the little touches, and motions, and facial expressions, and breaths. It’s all there that you feel you’re living it.
Gitte – Reason to Breathe. Another one that’s very high on my TBR list. SInce #2 is coming out any day now, I think i’m getting to it within the next couple of days. Can’t wait. Again.. I can’t wait to get to Collision Course. AND Stolen.. yes, we freaked over that one, didn’t we?
Jessika: Ooooh After the Night looks right up my alley! And I too, teared up a TON with Fifty. Especially that scene in book #2…. you know the scene. *gasp* My heart broke.
Jessica: I watched that movie (Time Travellers Wife) and the ending… really hurt my feelings. I can imagine it being MUCH worse for those reading the book.
Aestas… a fellow reader said she didn’t like book #3 so much in the Bronze Horseman trilogy. I’m scared!!
Mariel: Oh yes…. then that VERY BAD BOY went and bought her cereal in the morning. NICE! *grumble grumble* LOL!!!! Sorry but yes, I agree – what a horrible thing…
Sherry… yep. Z. He tugged at my heartstrings, but no actual full-on tears for some reason. Despite that, he remains my absolute favorite of ’em all.
Sheri – I’m checking out Handle With Care as we speak!
Rebecca: Hey whatever works!! Reading in the bath is SO fun! I miss it.
Yani – Heart on a Chain. I think it was Tina that just mentioned that one to me, too. *hug* sorry for having to make you re-live it… LOL!
Brandy: Yep… I forgot about Tohr. OF COURSE I really really felt his pain. OMG I totally cried with that one… the red dress. OMG! I must amend my list! Ahhhh yes I know why now, that I didn’t officially “cry-cry” in that one. I just re-read my review. I held back and I was extra strong that day. That was a tissue dab. But when I think back to it. My heart breaks completely at two different scenes.
Kara! Oh good! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one shedding tears in that one. Although Jane did, too, so I’m in great company! Oh and I LOVED The Darkest Night!
Carla: Trust in Advertising has been recommended a bunch too! An ending to make you cry, huh… well I’m adding it to my list. The Host just destroyed me that day. Although I must admit, after all that crying, I slept like a baby!
Love this! Have a entire new reading list! As if I needed more but yay!! Some I’ve read already, some not but can’t wait to get to them!!
Trust in Advertising was really good. The 3rd book in The bronze horseman series was ok, but it was good to get the ending. I felt like it could have been much shorter. Reason to breathe is my new one that I have been telling my friends and family. I can not wait till Tuesday.
Great lists. Second Chances by Lauren Dane and Poppy’s Passion by Stephanie Beck made me cry.
I am not a person to cry. Never have been. BUT…. The Bronze Horseman about did me in – the ending especially. I could barely finish it. 🙁
Are there BIG ups and downs in The Summer Garden? Yep. However, Paullina Simons writes a book that is real. The emotions, reactions, struggles, and everything in between are how people act everyday. Right or wrong. Marriages are not always happy-go-lucky. I mean, this is Shura (hello! alpha/possessive much?!) and Tania. They are two strong-willed individuals. That creates lots of heat. The good and bad kind! She doesn’t hold back on anything in The Summer Garden. I loved it!!! Loved the whole triology! Maybe my favorite of all time. 🙂 I can see why some don’t though….
I hope you write a review on the last two when you are done with them. I look forward to reading what you think.
Maryse- you have to read Beyond Eden! The first paragraph begins the pull of the heart strings. When I describe this book to friends I tell them that “Kele Moon’s writing is so brilliant in this book she had me @ hello”.
Forbidden scared me too, but I had a friend call me @ 3am sobbing about this book, so much so I couldn’t understand what she was saying through the hiccups & blowing her nose. So- I hung up w/her, threw caution to the wind & downloaded it. Needless to say, after not getting any sleep that night & reading the entire next day I was an all cried out walking zombie. Oh & I have 2 brothers so I definitely was feeling the creepy yuck factor before starting this book, BUT am so happy I did….
1. God – Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo – I sobbed so much I got a stomach ache!
2. How to Kill a Rockstar by Tiffanie DeBartolo – This writer knows how to bring on my waterworks!
3. The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons – So much angst!
4. Looking for Alaska & The Fault in our Stars both by John Green
5. If I Stay & Where I Went – Gayle Forman
Oh and I totally forgot about Phantom by Susan Kay! Gawd I love that book!
I am a big cry baby when it comes to books, movies, and even commercials. I even tear up over Biggest Loser and American Idol. The books that made me cry to the point of being unable to breath are…
Before I die by Jenny Downham – I cried from page three until the end. I could not even finished the last 10 pages without blowing my nose every few lines. I was still teared up hours after. I did not even start another book for more then 24 hours after I finished. Odd for me as I read sometimes 5 books a week.
Thoughtless by SC Stephens – I cried for everyone in this book. There was just wrong, wrong, and oh so right in this book.
How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo I was so happy at the ending of this book I cried again. When *spoiler* I was mad when I cried. How was I even going to finish the book? Was glad I stuck it out.
Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma – Was so unsure I wanted to read this book. When I was finished I was simply numb. I felt such in awe of the characters and story line. Even if the book was a taboo subject how could anyone not feel for these characters.
P.S. I love you by Barbara Conklin – My favorite book since my teen years. Was a wonderful story of young love. I have read it probably 30 times since then and still cry.
Love you Hate you Miss you by Elizabeth Scott – An emotional story of regret, loss and moving on.
Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon – I am such a fan of this series. I love Ash he is just so ahhh. I teared up throughout this book.
Dance with the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon – My second favorite next to Ash. Painful past just like Ash.
It looks like I really need to finish How to Kill A Rock Star & keep a box of tissues by my side!
Maryse….Beyond Eden and Finding Eden are amazing reads. I know they’re not for everyone but I think you need to read them. My heart broke in BE.
Forbidden. I’m setting this one as your goal for 2012 hehe. Make sure you’re in a good frame of mind and settle in to read it. It’s the worst emotional rollercoaster you’ll go on but it is worth it.
Collission Course….it goes without saying that SC is just AMAZING and so is this book. You will love it
Can’t wait to hear what you think of these 🙂
I read The Lovely Bones way before it was a movie. The book is so much better.I thought. I cried thru it. Also the Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodwiss. Acheron of course. Christine feehans Dark Desire. The beginning of Dark Prince broke my heart. Just a few of many.
Jenny? Will you be there for me and hold my fictional hand? I have a feeling I’m gonna need it.
I almost never cry when it comes to books and movies. My mum started calling me the ‘Heartless B**ch’ (a term of endearment) as she blubbered and I would remain dry-eyed 🙂
I love finding a book that makes me crack! Of the books listed here, none that I’ve read made me cry but Kristen Ashley has come so close, more than once … There are a couple of books that got me though, truly moving, powerful and sometimes hard to keep going! The Power of One and its sequel Tandia by Bryce Courtenay are amazing. Not paranormal but well worth a look. If anyone has any other suggestions I’m keen to hear them, I might give The Host a shot.
Ooooh I Love You Forever!!!! I remember getting it as a baby gift when my daughter was born. I had never read it before so I had absolutely no idea what happened. I read it to my daughter and started getting more and more choked up as I read it, then a big mess at the end. No one was around to see (besides my then 6-month old lol). I still read it now and then to my son, and try not to get too choked up at the end because he asks me what’s wrong….
Yes, Maryse – Heart on a Chain made me cry like a baby. We talked about this.
Perfection by RL Mathewson – when Trevor opened up her refrigerator and saw she was starving herself??? OMG. Tears.
Maryse!! Of course I’ll always be here to hold your fictional hand. You only need to ask haha!
Robyn B….I’ve yet to read God Shaped Hole and you’ve just made me bump it up my reading list!
Tina…..how could I forget about Heart on a Chain….that book also had me sobbing!
Forbidden is a complicated book. One that i was told is good. But i don’t think i can. I have a brother, he is 5 years older than me, and we are pretty close… i wouldn’t be able to read it. But if i didn’t…. i would try it for sure.
I’m going to name the last book to make me cry (an ugly cry) & no one else will list this one. My bestfriend is obsessed with JANE EYRE that was written in 1847 by Charlotte Bronte. She has read the book three times straight & has the dozen different DVDs of movies made about that book (1 made in 1933). So I had just finished a book & I thought “what the heck” it’s free for the Kindle & downloaded JANE EYRE. My Grandson was sitting playing his Xbox & turned to see me balling my eyes out over this book & wanted to know what was wrong with Grandma.
Julie: Right? My list just keeps getting longer, but lately its been filling up with really great stuff that comes highly recommended, so I’m thrilled!
Missy! No need to wait… Barely Breathing came out a day early. YAY!!
Rebecca: Thank YOU!! I just put the Poppy one in my TBR list. Wooohoooo!! Looks right up my alley!
Jill: Thank you so much for clearing that up. I fully intend on completing the series. #1 was so addictive…
Michelle: Okay… I’m gonna give it a try. Eeeeeep! But I’m definitely going with Kele Moon’s books since I already know I enjoy her writing.
Robyn… I heard about The Fault in our Stars. That one looks intensely sad!! I’m bummed that God Shaped Hole is only in print format 🙁
Amy: I think I’m too chicken for Before I Die. Ohhh those books are so hard. I completely understand the immediate tears. Oh and is P.S. I love you —> is that the book of were the movie originated from? Like you from page 3 on Before I die, I cried from practically the very start for P.S. I love you.
Sheri Z. I’d love to hear what you think once you’re done…
Jenny: I’m doin’ it!!! All of the ones you’ve reiterated… are now HIGH on my list. Like by next week “high”
Norma… I loved Dark Prince. I’m checking out the others you’ve mentioned as we speak!
Miss Mel: Thank you for that suggestion!! Trying to find it on Kindle, but looks like only a “condensed” version. I shall keep searching though!
Jeannie. Yep. I can’t even talk about that book without wanting to cry. I can say it’s name. I can say it made me cry. But I can’t even discuss even just the premise without breaking down.
Tina… I’m on it!
Carla: Thank you for that! I’ve just downloaded it.
Nancy!! Really? Good ’cause I’ve had that one for awhile too, I just haven’t delved into the classics yet.
Maryse – The P.S. I love you was a young adult romance written in the 80’s. It was a part of the Sweet Dreams collection. Barbara Conklin wrote it. It is out of print now however you can find used ones.
P.S. I Love You description

In fact, his sandy sandy hair and piercing blue eyes break down all Mariah’s defences. With Paul, Palm Springs becomes the most romantic place on Earth.
But Paul has to go into the hospital for some tests and then an operation. He’s seriously ill and all his family’s money can’t help him.
Will Maraih lose Paul, too, just when she’s found her first love?
Just finished The Reluctant Dom and my god.l never before have I cried with a book. Sure I’ve gotten teary eyed but this gave me the ‘big ‘ol ugly cry’… Such an amazing book!!!
I just finished the “Hunger Game Series” and I cried so much… My hubby thought I was going crazy. I was doing chores; sweeping floors listening to the books on my MP3 crying like I lost a loved one. That is when my hubby walked into the house and found me crying over the broom while sweeping the floor. He didn’t even ask and walked by shaking his head. He knew already! I don’t cry over many books, but that series got to me. As well as other’s like when Dumbledore died in the Harry Potter Series. Yes “New Moon” effected me too and of course Zsadist and his story in the BDB. I do understand! 😉
Husbands just let us be now, when that happens. But how cute that you were doing chores and crying at the same time.
My son’s preschool teacher read “I love you, forever” to the moms on mother’s day. I was a blubbering mess. Anyone with children wouldn’t be able to keep dry eyes.
Just read Kristen Ashley’s Fairytale Come Alive and cried my way through the first half.
I’m adding “Gabriel’s Rapture” to my list!
If you are looking for a book that lays all the emotion out there, you have to try Gen Showalter’s first book in the Lords of the Underworld series: The Darkest night. I have read them all and it will probably always be my favorite. It will literally rip your heart out. There is such a gut-wrenching grief at the end of the book that you can’t help but ache for them. Please give this one a try.
I have read around 25 to 30 books a month for the past 5-8 years. So I have many teary moments but the one book that has stuck in my mind for several years is:
Elizabeth Berg~ Never Change (this book made me cry over and over every time I thought about it). A must read!
Just read all of the post’s and Wow, some of the books listed I have never heard of. I read so much that I can’t remember if I laughed, cried or got angry at the books. I will now have to make a happy, sad or teary face next to the book when I add it to my notebook with all of my have read list. I have kept a Read list since 2009 and its now really getting long. I will have to review it. I am an emotional reader, so i read feel for what the characters express. I love to read books that make you think even the PNR, and Historical, and contemporary. I love to read almost anything but have a serious PNR addition.
I will look forward to reading many of these tearjerkers…
The book at the end of your list, “ill love you forever” makes me cry every time i read it and i am not ashamed to say i am a 23 year old red blooded male. when i was little my mom used to read it to me every night before bed so it holds a special placew in my heart.
Awwww!! I don’t know how she got through it every night without breaking down. I just see that one in a bookstore and head in the other direction. 😉
Firefly Lane – by Kristin Hannah
I have a terrible habit of occasionally reading ahead…which I did with this book. I found a part that made me cry like a baby and then I was so mad at the book I put it down for a couple of weeks. My BFF and reading buddy, kept telling me to finish it, so finally I picked it up again and I did finish it, but even knowing what was coming I still cried like a baby, twice more before I was done with the book.
Also:
Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper.
A book about a blind cat, that reads like a conversation over coffee. I’m a total cat lover and this one had me bawling from the first chapter to the end.
I’m intrigued about the first!!
AND OH NO over the cat one. Animal movies and books, I can’t handle those. I know I’d sob like crazy, and my list would be WAYYYY too long. LOL!
OMG…I totally forgot about Firefly Lane. That book had me bawling like a baby. I must add that to my list!
Once again, I have to wonder – were we seperated at birth?? Twilight, absolutely. When Edward leaving Bella in the woods is also the part in New Moon I sobbed in. Went to bed crying, tears streaming down my face. I had just flippped through the next 6 or so pages that only said, “October. November. December….”. O…M….G. (chills now remembering!). And V’s story, oh…my! I cried in Rhages story, and Z’s.. but V’s?? I had to take my glasses off at one point and wipe my face on my nightshirt!! Mine was the end, with Jane, when he was alone, in his room, he was crying. And finally, I also cried at The Host! I thought I would not ever get through that book, but man did it finally take a turn in the awesomeness direction!
When you get the chance, check out God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo.
The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred. The Time Travelers Wife. Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. When I was pregnant Kristan Higgins sucked me in when the doggy died in one of her books, cant even remember which one.
Great list, I am glad you said that about The Host. I just started reading it and I am not into it just yet. So if its as good as you say I’ll keep going. Thank you! and my tear jerker…The Last Song.
LOL! I cried while reading Connected! I was so mad at the part I cried 🙂 Hey if an author can touch my emotions then they have done their job! I cried reading S.C. Stephens Collision Course OH MY!
Poughkeepsie made me cry more than once <3
I bought “Love You Forever” when I had my first child; he’s now 15. That book STILL makes me tear up. And, like you, I wept uncontrollably the first time I read it.
I would like to add Linda Howard’s “Cry No More” to the list. I tear up while reading many books, but this one had me sobbing.
Ohhhh so many new great suggestions! I’m always in for a good book-cry so I’m going to be adding these to my reading future! Keep ’em coming! 🙂
LOTS of books have made me cry — my recents:
Collision Course -SC Stephens – every young person should read it
Loving David – Gina Hummer – My 2012 favorite: still gets to me just thinking about it
Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan…… Very full on…… Mny many tears
Just finished If I’d Never Known Your Love by Georgia Bockoven
I cried more than a few times.
Blurb:
“I’m going to miss you. Every minute of every hour ”

PC Cast – Divine by Choice. Cried horse tears!!! Rebecca Donovan – Barely Breathing…heartbreaking.
I have to add another book to my list…Love Unscripted had me bawling!
Have you read The Breathing serious by Rabecca Donovan? These 2 books literally left me feeling a sense of complete angst. I am anxiously awaiting the third. This author likes to shock and leave you hanging. But again makes you feel and think for days after finishing.
Sure have, and I can’t wait for the next!! Thanks goodness cliffhanger #2 wasn’t as bad as #1. I could live with that. 😉
I just read Prefect Game ,and I cried like a baby. I read many books that was mentioned, but that book did something to me.
Adding The Sea of Tranquility to my list. Just finished last night. Amazing!
There are some books that get me a little teary eyed (mainly ones said above) these books aren’t really tear jerkers for me but for people that love romance books I suggest these by far.
1. The bachelor
2. The playboy
3. The heartbreaker
4. Under the boardwalk
5. Lovin summer
These books are all written by the amazing Carly Phillips and in the first three I guess it gets a little sad especially if you got emotional in FSOG…. Hope you try them because they’re really good otherwise I wouldn’t have even bothered commenting… Hahahahahaha 🙂
Ok maybe I did cry a little bit in the first three but it was the second time reading it because I guess I was processing the book more. You can’t take them lightly you have to get into them. Trust me that’s not hard, the romance heats up about as fast as FSOG!!!!!!! 😉
I not faster… ;(
I just read The Edge of Never on your recommendation. I couldn’t put it down. This book made me sob so much that I had to pause and wipe my tear because my vision was so blurry I couldn’t continue. I can’t believe it is not on your list. It didn’t make you cry? (As always, thank you! I love your blog.)
Taking Chances by molly mcadams. I cried so hard and almost couldnt finish reading. For days i cried.an thinking bout it still upsets me and i read it over 2 months ago!
It might already have been mentioned in another comment, but if not…you gotta add THE EDGE OF NEVER!!! 🙁
I have to agree with Jenna and Pam. The edge to never was a very touching book. Taking Chances will break your heart and make you sob uncontrollably…
Taking chances Nd the edge of never… Sniffff
You know what book made me sob like a baby? Marley and Me. I know it’s not really within the subject matter of books covered in this blog, but I was sobbing on the couch, asking my husband, “Wwwhhhhyyy won’t this dog just die already?”
Oh My I can’t believe The Edge of Never isn’t on the list!
Books that make me cry:
Years by LaVyrle Spencer. Favorite book ever!
Ride The Wind by Lucia St. Clair Robson. I refuse to read the end…again
Acheron, especially Part 1. Oy!
Butterfly Tattoo by Deirde Knight. This book tore out my heart & stomped it to pieces. But what a beautiful, albeit dysfunctional love story. I thoroughly recommend..
You may need to extend this from 8 Books to just Books That Made Me Cry.
Emi Lost and Found book #2 (whole box of tissues for this one, not just a tissue)
Taking Chances
Breathing Series
I don’t cry often reading if ever really (movies are a different story), but The Edge of Never did it for me.
Ten Tiny Breathes by KA Tucker
The Edge of Never by JA Redmerski
I love books that can make you cry, not just th teary eyes that i have to admit i’m a little prone to if i get sucked into a good book but the ful blown ugly crying…. as much as i hate ugly crying i love that the book had that effect on me.
Off the top of my head i can only think of two books that made me sob hard
The Time Travelers Wife (oh my gawd i had to put it down twice to finish it)
Taking chances ~ Molly Mcadams (i didnt see it coming… still makes me tear up thinking about it)
New moon as well… I was beyond heartbroken.
i’m sure there were others but those stand out the most.
PS loving your reviews 🙂
I agree with Taking Chances and the Edge of Never. I didnt think i would find a book that would touch my heart any deeper ….I was proben wrong after finishing Collision Course by S.C. Stephens. I did’t kniw i could physically shed so may tears. For begining to end I was a blubbering fool. In my opinion a deffinte must read!!
I Love You Forever gets me everytime!! A mom was reading it to the preschool group I help with last week and started choking up, and of course I was choking up. I’m sure the kids thought we were crazy! Another kid book that gets me is Just In Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado. When I read it, I have to try not to cry, because my kids always are so confused as to what is wrong! Just so darn sweet!
In no particular order:
Collision Course by Stephens
Forbidden by Suzuma — I kept thinking about the books for weeks after I read it!
Slammed by Hoover
Forever My Girl by McLaughlin — My husband was totally freaked out that I was crying. He asked why I was reading it if it made me cry! Usually he doesn’t ask anymore, he just awkwardly pats my back, but he knew I had just started the book, so couldn’t believe I was already crying!
The Fault in our Stars — Love this book!
Reason to Breathe — Good freaking Lord! I haven’t finished the second book yet. I want the third book out first, so I can start reading it as soon as I’m done with the second. I know I will sob through the other books in the series!
The Edge of Never — Incredible!
Sometimes Never — Has some intense parts!
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
Edge of Never
Reflected to You- the end!!
Fifty Shades- does it everytime
Hi everyone… The most emotional read I have read in FOREVER has been ‘I am HER…’ By Sarah Ann Walker. This book just destroyed me. It’s so weird for me to experience something like that in a book. A movie, sure, because you can physically SEE the actors suffering, but with this book, not only did I SEE the characters suffering, you FELT it. It was amazing, and gut-wrenching, and sickning, and beautiful by the end. This is the kind of book that sticks with you always. This is the kind of heavy, beautiful novel you read once or twice in a lifetime but never forget in your lifetime. This is a 10 Star book, and an emotional roller coaster!
Hi, I got to your blog after reading Beautiful Disaster and trying to placate the gigantic gap that was left in my heart when that book was left, you’ve got some amazing suggestions in your blog, thanks!
I don”t know if someone already mentioned this book as I didn’t read all the comments, but for this particular list, I HAVE to recommend you a book called “Me Before You”, by British author Jojo Moyes. Absolutely heart-wrenching, proper wailing material. And beautiful, beautiful, beautiful…
If you want a book that will make you bawl read “The night road” by Kristin Hannah. Omg!!!! This one hits all the fear and pain when you are a parent. So so so good. I also just read “Home Front” by Kristin Hannah. Also made me cry but not quite as good as the night road.
You should read the series called heku. Its about three rival vampire coven fighting over a girl with power to ash them. Its by T. M. Nielson.
Danielle Steele’s Autobiography that focuses on her son who was bipolar. I cried throught the book.
So glad you have this site! I am a paranormal romance freak lol and I adore sherrilyn kenyon lara adrian gena showalter and larissa ione! I also like that I can get clues as to who else to read from here! Love love love your reviews
falling into you by jasinda wilder. you know what’s going to to happen, but daaang if you don’t end up snot-bubble-blowing-ugly-crying anyway! and talk about steamy….whoa. i’ll never look at doorframes the same way again :))))
The first book that had me bawling… literally sobbing my heart out was Chasing Nikki… holy shit! I had read reviews and was warned I would need a box of tissues so I did expect tears but I really didn’t think I would need an actual whole box… well I came very close. And I had to walk away from my Kindle for a few minutes just to compose myself enough to continue reading.
The only other books that have had me that emotionally wound up and devastated and uncontrollably sobbing were Ruining Me and Ruining You. These were 2 awesome reads but holy hell did they wrench my heart.
Other books have made me cry. Yes, Slammed was definitely one. I think I may have welled up a bit somewhere during the Fifty Shades Trilogy, Crossfire series and I’m pretty sure there were tears somewhere in the Thoughtless trilogy amongst a number of others but these 3 were the ones that had a pivotal moment that made you lose it. Hence, they are very memorable. I’ve read so many books that the others just don’t stand out as much in the tear jerking department.
Read Decsencion by B.C.Burgess. Made me bawl like a baby. Box of tissue bawl !!! Also 1st in Mystic series. Also recommend Nalini Singhs shapeshifter series. They are amazing.
The Reluctant Dom – Even though you knew it was coming; when it did, OMG, I sobbed & sobbed
Mirror of My Soul by Joey Hill, it’s the conclusion to Ice Queen. When I finished it, I just sort of stared into space.. I couldn’t start another book for a week.
Rough Canvas by Joey Hill, I didn’t think I could get into a male/male book, but the love story of Marcus & Thomas was so beautiful, it brought me to tears.
Just finished ‘falling for hadie’ by Komal Kant and I am still crying. I sobbed by the end of the book and it takes a lot for me to cry. Great book which makes you rethink your outlook on life. The last book which made me cry was Slammed.
I read a book a few months ago that was M/M but a real tear-jerker called Chase in Shadow by Amy Lane. It’s one of those books that stay with you.
One book that made me cry was Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It made my heart wrench.
Love You Forever also made me cry! 🙂
I love the Emi Lost and Found series by Lori Otto. I was quite emotional when reading those books, especially Time Stands Still.
I am usually upset for a while after I finish reading a series because I am down that it is all over. But Hunger Games the Third book I was so upset and balling my eyes out I threw the book across the room! I even thought about tracking down the Author to give her a piece of my mind! She made me so upset! Luckily I moved on to another series Fifty Shades and I was happy again!
I just read How to Kill a Rock Star based on your review and loved it. I did not cry…but was stunned into disbelief. I re-read the ending. Loved it.
I am not much of a crier, but sobbed when I read another book. Lori L. Otto’s 2nd book Time Stands Still. I read the 1st book and loved it…when I got to Book 2 I was so caught off guard( having not read the synopsis) that I was lying in bed reading and crying trying not to wake the hubby up. Crazy emotional read.
PS I love this blog. I am finding so many great books to read because of the reviews, bargain books etc. I have a nook, and many times the bargains do not match up for me or some of the authors are not listed. Makes me kinda wish I picked the Kindle instead.
I totally agree about the emotions from Acheron (that others have mentioned) …
also I haven’t seen anyone mention:
A Lick of Frost by Laurell K. Hamilton (totally made me cry)
DreamFever (Karen Marie Moning)
Iron Kissed and White Witch, Black Curse (both Patricia Briggs)
… all have made me cry … seriously I cry at least once a month from one book or another!
I’m a big book fanatic and over the last 15 years i’ve read ALOT of books that made me cry.. but the one that kept popping into my head through this whole post and had me wondering if no one had even read the book yet was ‘Taking Chances’ i was distraught..
I actually remember hearing myself sobbing and repeating ‘no no no this can’t happen’ over and over again. my boyfriend just laughed at me and shook his head when i screamed out ‘I hate this book’ and stormed out of my room. 🙂
Recommended it to my mum who called me at 3am sobbing and abusing me for not warning her.
Unforgettable. <3
Love You Forever makes me cry every time. But I think the first book that made me cry was Charlotte’s Web. I must have been, I dunno, maybe 12? But I still cry every time. Okay, I’m a crier. 😛
LOL!!! It’s fun being a crier! 😉
Homefront by Kristin Hannah. OMG I cried for 4 hours straight. My eyes were a wreck the next day. I’m sooo glad my husband and son weren’t home. They would have laughed their butts off. jerks.
I’m a semi-crybaby; I tear up fairly easily, but it takes a lot for me to need more than a tissue or two. My list of tearjerkers (full on sobs, have to set the book down because I’m blinded by tears) is fairly short, but growing:
1. The outsiders by S.E. Hinton- omg, sob fest!!
2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee- the cruelty of racism hadn’t been made as real to my young self (I was 13 when I first read it) as it was in this book. Powerful stuff!
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling- Dobby, anyone?
4. Several books from the Outlander series (by Diana Gabaldon)- character losing a husband, losing a mother, gaining and then losing a husband, childbirth, stillbirth, the loss of a baby… I could go on and on. She really knows how to pour it on!
5. Love You, Forever by Robert Munsch- mommy love overload! My daughter asks me to read it “because it makes Mommy cry”. Ugh that girl!
I’ll have to check out some of the books mentioned here. I love a good cry every now and again :)!
I know what you mean when you blow the crying fuze cuz Acheron did that to me. After a while you’re just numb reading that book. And honestly, I remember how bad it was ‘cuz I’ve only read it once. Another dark-hunter got me to cry too… Zarek from Dance with the Devil got me so bad. The carvings, how he became a dark-hunter (the Artie part) and the truth about his condition. All I could do was cry and curse Artie to Tartarus for being as evil as Acheron says she is. I’m now into kresley cole’s iad series but thankfully I enjoy them and they don’t try to rend the heart from my chest lol!
Falling into You by Jasinda Wilder,The Host by Stephenie Meyer, Time Stands Still by Lori Otto, Ten Tiny Breaths, and The Edge of Never.
I might add that I also needed eye drops besides the Kleenex while reading Time Stands Still.
omg, so i think we totally have the same taste in books! .. New Moon made me teary lol … but the hunger games trilogy made me actually cry, especially catching fire, and the ending of mocking jay. i really hope that 4th part comes out to just explain the life of all of them now. i would love to know if gale and katniss still keep contact. & whatever happens to haymitch lol… anyways, beautiful disaster totally made me cry as well lol thats my FAVVVEE book! .. im VERY excited to see the movie of beautiful disaster i really think liam hemsworth or cam gigandet would be good for the role of travis… liam is a perfect sweetheart but cam is a very good bad boy lol. so either one i think.
1. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams
2. Stealing Harper by Molly McAdams
3. From Ashes by Molly McAdams
4. The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski
5. Slammed by Colleen Hoover
6. Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover
7. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
8. At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks
9. The Host by Stephenie Meyer
10. P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
I just read the Emi Lost and Found series: I haven’t cried this much over a book since Dumbledore died!
Ive only ever cried about one book, and when i did, i was bawling! i couldn’t help myself and it was so realistic too. I’m just… baah! so heartbreaking
Now that there’s been suspense… The Fault In Our Stars:John Green
So I am new to your blog, (thanks to Jessica park mentioning it on fb)and wth have I been missing! I read some of your reviews & knew instantly I would like you. This list intrigued more the most. I have a book for you that will guarantee tears…The Fault in our Stars by John Greene. They are making the movie now so read it soon! I didn’t check to see if you have a review on it, but since it isn’t on this list I am sure you have not. Feel free to email me to curse me after.
Holding On (Lights of Peril) A.C.Bextor
This book came out Oct. 13th. It’s in need of editing but it is so good. Very emotional book all the way through. The ending had me crying so hard I had to stop reading to collect myself to be able to finish. It takes a lot for me to cry. This book will leave you thinking about it for weeks, I stayed up until 4am reading it. I woke up the next morning thinking about it and cried again. I can’t wait for the next boo to come out in Feb. 2014!!!
Living Again by L.L. Collins
It needs to be added to this list and quick!!! Holy crap I just got done reading it and my eyes are still puffy and red!!
Such a great great book!!
Making Faces by Amy Harmon – phew…did this make me ugly cry. As always, loved your review of it & surprised it hasn’t caused you to change the title of this list to 9 😉
Oh you are so right Maryse! I forgot… I bawled reading Breaking Dawn at the imprinting part! Lmao… I totally did not see that coming! And yet, I did not bawl after reading The Fault in Our Stars. (Teary eyed – yes) What is wrong with me?!?! Lol. ….another children’s book I love is a book called Ish by Peter A. Reynolds. It’s so sweet! Love You Forever is a classic! Love it!
Wow, you all have had me add several series to my must read list. I NEVER cry…No, let me say this again- I NEVER cry…I was the only dry eye seeing Titanic, I. just. don’t cry.
and then I read Acheron…Ok, so now I can cry…No,I hiccup and sob! Styxx got me teary eyed and I DID feel a lump in my throat and a sting in my eyes while reading Zarek’s and Seth’s books as well in the Dark Hunter Series. I don’t know how it happened but I am SO attached to the characters in these books and I thought the Dark Series (Christine Feehan) had me hooked on those characters. So now I have 3 series I am caught up on and can’t wait for the newest books on and they are Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters, Christine Feehan’s Dark series and Anne Rice is releasing a NEW Vampire series book Lestat! Fall is gonna be WONDERFUL around here!!!
Got a new one to add to the sob fest list: allegiant. Tris, and Tobias, and the tears!! The last 50 or so pages I had to reread because I COULD NOT SEE!!
Hi Maryse 🙂
Add this one to books that made you cry: Beautiful Losers by Remittance Girl. Beautiful, gut-wrenching anguish. Let me know what you think if you read it. Love your website – thanks so much for all the good reads I’ve gotten b/c of you 🙂
Regards,
J
Thank you Janette!!! That one sounds AMAZING!!!! My heart is already clenching.
Me Before You. What a story.
Blubbed all the way through Natasha Ander’s The Unwanted Wife, but the the biggest heartbreaker was RK Lilly’s Tristen and Danika trilogy
Emm Cole’s “The Short Life of Sparrows” had me laughing, thinking, and sobbing.
I cried in Time Traveler’s Wife and Bridges of Madison County.
The Bronze Horseman & the sequel Tatiana and Alexander (I was sobbing every few pages starting from about 70% through TBH) LOVE them so much!!!!!
And definitely The Reluctant Dom
Omg I seriously did cry a lot for stolen, twilight and host too!
Ooooh! I’m so glad I found your website!! We like all the same books!! I’m going through all your lists and putting ones I haven’t read on my “must read” list! So happy I found you!!
Also, definitely put “A thousand boy kisses” on your cry list! My husband has a rare genetic disease that has put him through the ringer, so it could be I’m a little extra sensitive, but I’m pretty sure it’s because the author is just that good!
Thank you sooooo much for your sweet comments and your book recommendation. I’ve heard it’s fantastic but a sob-fest!!
I love crying when I’m reading. I don’t know why, but I just love feeling so emotionally attached to characters. A book that made me cry was ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, by Suzanne Collins, when a particular character died (I won’t spoil it for anyone).
Oh yes!! I know I am LIVING the book when I feel that depth of emotion.
