If you are new to the Vampire/Paranormal romance world, and have just ended the last book of the “The Twilight Saga“, I’m certain that you are dying to immerse yourself into something similar.
Here are my recommendations (as per what I have read so far).
After reading the entire Twilight Saga, I immediately went onto the “Sookie Stackhouse” novels by Charlaine Harris (this is the series that the HBO show “True Blood” is based off of). This was a GREAT series, and while not exactly in the same “atmosphere” as the Twilight books (you know…the dreamy, deeply emotional, never-ending possessive love feel), there is a ton of romance, adventure, betrayal and an ongoing “love triangle” that just gets better as better, as the series continues. I was hooked and realized, that while this was not “Twilight”, I liked the series just as much.
After that, I went onto the Anita Blake series, and while I have read every book in that series, it is definitely in a world of it’s own. The vampires are more traditional (dead to the world during the day, and dangerous, sexy and mysterious at night).
Would I recommend going directly to that once you’ve finished the Twilight Saga? Mmmmm… not really… eventually (adults only!), just not yet. The Anita Blake series, for the first few books, concentrates mostly on adventure/danger and a *slight* love theme in the background. The first few books barely touch on the “romance” we came to love so much with Twilight. While there is some romantic tension, it simply drove me crazy when I’d finish each book, and still didn’t get much more than a slight “love scene” that was barely more then just a kiss and talk of attraction.
As the series progressed, 5 or 6 books in, we finally get some relief through a nice romance story and again the fun “love triangle” (and I was officially hooked), but at a certain point, a few books after that, the “romance” turns into full ADULT rated interactions, and become a whirlwind of “sexcapades” (some romance but mostly angsty drama mixed in with crazy, extremely descriptive sex). Essentially the triangle has practically turned into an octagon.
Future books in the series can be honestly exhausting, (at least in the romance/intimacy department). While I have read each one, I can say without a doubt that these, after “Obsidian Butterfly” may not appeal to readers more interested in a true romance story with adventure. Personally, I have enjoyed the series enough, and have become attached to some of the characters, so I will continue to read. While admittedly, the dominant sexual theme is relevant to the characters and situation at hand (an unwanted side effect of Anita’s situation), I found myself skipping over ALOT of pages involving most of these interactions. Let’s just say that while my mom and I love to talk about books we are reading, this is not one series that I would be willing to discuss with her!
Ok ok, so here are my recommendations for those addicted to love, and Vampires (and “shifters”), after the Twilight Saga:
I would say:
The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost (Lots of ROMANCE, and you’ll just love the two main characters. Lots of funny scenes, sad scenes, adventure – this whole series is just GREAT satisying fun!!)
Then, the Sookie Stackhouse Series (lots of books to read, funny scenes, TONS of romance, scary adventures in each, and two amazing Vampires that you’ll have a hard time choosing between -well, I know who my favorite is!) – This is actually my favorite series.
Next, I thoroughly enjoyed most of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Each book focuses on one male and female character and the struggles they face for true love despite their “situation”. While each book has some action adventure in regards to an “enemy”, the enemy is mostly “blah” (except for book 3 – the adventure part was actually pretty decent), but the love story is always fantastic!
While all of the novels I have mentioned have some sexual interactions (not meant for young adults as the Twilight series was), a few of the series are slightly more detailed in the sexual interactions then others. Since I have never read any other romance novels, I can’t quite say whether these differ from regular books, but I thought I’d throw that in there.
I haven’t even put a dent in the amount of Vampire books I still have to read, so I know my opinions will change as I become more proficient in my Paranormal Romance library, however, anything that could help me get over my “Twilight fix” was good enough for me!
For MORE recommendations, read my recent post: “A Special Hug for My Sister-in-Law Who is in Mourning Over the Twilight Saga” (and scroll down through the comments to see what other reader’s suggest) – good stuff there!
01-30-2010: AN UPDATE: After a whole year of strictly reading the paranormal genre, I still love these books to death, and my “to be read” pile continues to grow. I still thank Stephenie Meyer for writing the Twilight Saga, allowing me to discover a whole section of books that I might have never perused before.
I have NEW recommendations for your post-Twilight reading (and really, this is just a sampling of the books that stand out in my head right now):
- The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead – Two half vampires training to protect vampire royalty, and struggling against their own mutual but forbidden attraction. Full of action, and plenty of romantic tension. 4 books with a 5th on the way.
- The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning – A human female discovers she is from a line of special fae “seers”. Learning how to use her newly discovered abilities with the help of some very powerful, mysterious (and heartbreakingly sexy) men, she realizes that the world as we know it, might just be about to end. Hrmmmm…Barrons or V’lane…? I still can’t choose…(you’ll see 😉 )
- The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon – you will be occupied for weeks with this lengthy selection, about Greek Gods and gorgeous human but now un-dead warriors battling demons and vampires, all the while finding the loves of their lives. All in all, an excellent series. My world revolved around Acheron for awhile.
- The Argeneau Vampires series by Lynsay Sands – all in all, just good fun! They are hilarious! Some books have a touch of danger, but they are all extremely romantic.
- The Bourbon Street Trilogy by Kathy Love – I’m still stuck on these hot New Orleans vampires that just want to live normal lives. Playing in a cover band at a local bar, flirting with the tourist hotties, and dealing with their own deeply hidden turmoils.
Check out my other “favorites” lists:
Thank you!!! I have been watching True Blood since it started and never figured out it was based on a book (I know little slow…) Can’t wait to start the series!!
Vampire Acadmey Series- Richelle Mead
House of Night Series-P.C. Cast
Cate Tiernan-Both series
Thank you for your suggestions. Now I have more to read!!Yeah!!!. The above I found to be good reads. Even though its not Twilight (which I love). Im on to your suggestions now. Thanks again.
Hi There,
Great website! I started off with the twilight series and then went to sookie and then followed it up with the vampire huntress novels. Now i’m kinda stuck on Katie McAlister’s Dark Ones series, i’ve only read the first 3 out of 7 but they are awesome and really saucey 🙂 so if you haven’t read them yet you shold there GREAT! (for what ailes you hehe) I was wondering if you’d recommend some other vampire books that are heavliy into the old romance the saucier the better!
Regards
Libby
Hi Libby! I have so many to recommend (especially since you requested the romance!!)
Kerrelyn Spark’s “Love at Stake” series, the Lynsay Sands “Argeneau Vampires” series, and of course, the Christine Feehan “Dark” series (but I can only do this one in small doses, as I found the romance part to be extremely overwhelming at times).
Oh and of course, your vampire reading experience will never be complete until you’ve done the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, by J.R. Ward. You HAVE to get involved in that one!
I love recommendations, and am glad to hear the Dark Ones series is worth reading. I have a few of them already, so I will get started 🙂
Try Keri Arthur, the Riley series… is really good.
That’s 2 recommendations in one day for this series. I’m definitely going to start it ASAP.
I followed your same logical book flow (Twilight, Sookie, LKH etc.,) and one of my favorites is Jeaniene Frost, love her writting style. But along the way I really enjoyed Kim Harrison – The Rachel Morgan series, she is a really great writter, she tends to throw a lot of characters at you but it makes for great reading. It’s really differnt but has a lot of humor as well. Patrica Briggs – Mercy Thompson series another good read in a different direction for werwolfs. I just started a series by Kresely Cole, Immortals After Dark, so far so good, I was hooked in pretty quick, but I am only in about 60 pages.
Yes!! More recommendations! I am having a hard time keeping up with you guys but it’s all good. I have a reading marathon to complete this year (2010) anyway, so I’ve decided to achieve my goal by reading your suggestions.
Last night I started the Lara Adrian “Midnight Breed” Series (still only on book#1, but it’s already pretty good, so i’m looking forward to continuing it)…
after reading twilight i got completely hooked on kresley cole’s “Immortals after dark” series. fabulous paranormal romance series. very explicit love scenes, excellent characters, very good plots. the characters are what bind the series together. i highly recommend this to all paranornmal romance fantasy readers. another excellent series is the “lords of the underworld” by gena showalter.
the worlds that kresley cole and gena showalter have created are so believable, that you really feel that you could meet any of these people/creatures at any time, around any corner.
these are only for adults.
enjoy!!!
The Immortals After Dark series will be one of the first that I will be reading in 2010 (as part of J.Kaye’s 100+ Reading Challenge). Can’t wait to get to it!
What I wouyld love to suggest is The Dark-Hunter Novels by Sherrilyn Kenyon They are all great. I have read them all in oh I guess just under 1.5 months. Must read!!!!!!
Great website! I just added darkfever to my cart 🙂 Like so many other people, I read twilight first and had to find similar books. In my opinion, the sookie stackhouse series is way better than twilight. I love the adventure and the romance! Don’t even get me started on the love triangle… BTW I love Eric!!!! I didn’t think there were so many books out there that I could read while I’m waiting for the Dead in the family to come out.
I read the cassandra palmer series and also really enjoyed the books. I love the character, she cracks me up a lot. I would also recommend to anyone who hasn’t read the books.
I read the hollows by Kim Harrison and also loved it. She keeps me on the edge of my seat when it comes to Rachel and Ivy. Great Series! Lots of action and funny too.
No, i’m on the the Dorine Series and Jeanine Frost. By the time i’m finished with all these new books, sookie will be waiting for me around the corner.
Hi Tanya! You will love Darkfever! I’m already on book# 3 in the series, and can’t put it down. You know a book is good when you think about it at work (btw: interesting little triangle brewing in this series too)…
Thanks for the recommendations. I have actually already started collecting Kim Harrison’s books. Looks right up my alley.
Have you read the Mary Janice Davidson books? Very funny, and the main vampire (also an “Eric”) is totally hot, too.
Did You know they are turning the host into a movie, cant wait!!!!
I did see that. It’ll be an awesome movie. The story is so great.
I haven’t read the host, but I’m waiting for it to come in the mail… biting my fingers and waiting. I did see on Meyer’s website that they will be doing a movie. The book does sound really interesting so I can’t wait to read it. Yes! the books could get me in trouble with both my job and school work 🙂 I try to be good though, because sometimes it’s hard to put a book down. I recently checked out some cd books at the library and was very impressed. I didn’t know if I wanted to hear someone reading to me. I have to say that I enjoyed it and got a lot of work done!
Oh yeah? I’ve never listened to an audio book, but I have one of my co-workers (a guy!) interested in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, so I thought about getting it to play at work. I’m always worried I’d tune an audio book out and miss something important, but since I already read the series, no big deal.
I’ve read about 200 books sence January last year. I started with the Twilight Saga then went to Jeaniene Frost then Karen Chance to Lyndsay Sands to L.K. Hamilton to Richelle Mead to Charlaine Harris to Alexandra Ivy to Allison Van Diepen to Alyson Noel (the first book was good the second not so much). I read some of Amanda Ashley but could not get into it. so went on to Amber Benson then to Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (they r nice small books to pass the time) then to Anna Katherine to Annette Curtis Klause to Anya Bast to Caitlin Kittredge to Carrie Vaughn to Cassandra Clare to Christopher Paolini to Claudia Gray to Gena Showalter to Holly Black to P.C. Cast to Ilona Andrews to Keri Arthur to Kresley Cole to L.J. Smith to Lara Adrian to Lisa McMann to Lora Leigh to Melissa De La Cruz to Melissa Marr to Rachel Caine to Raven Hart to finish the year off with Shiloh Walker. most people don’t think a mom with 2 small kids can read this much in a year but i did and my kids loved the books that where able to be read to them. hope every one has a great time reading.
Hi Maryse,
I read darkfever when it came in the mail. After that I had to get right back out to the store and buy the two other ones bloodfever and faefever. I am done with those and can’t wait to go and get dreamfever. I hate the cliff hangers!! It makes me want to scream. So I left where Mac is Priya? That was a great recommendation from you!!! Thanks!
Oh and is the fever series going to be a movie? I’ve been seeing stuff about that, maybe you know?
Oh my goodness so may great series you’re talking about
Would definitely recommend
The Black Dagger Brotherhood – JR Ward
The Otherworld Series – Kelley Armstrong (amazing)
The Vampire Diaries – L J Smith
Study Series and Glass Series – Maria V Snyder (wow)
Riley Jenson Guardian Series – Keri Arthur
There are just so many!!! What is the J Kayes 100+ reading challenge it sounds likes fun!!!!!
Thanks for the Maria V Snyder suggestion! I posted her reading order guides, and I see her books are very well liked.
The Mortal Instrument trilogy is the most similar to Twilight in tone and pacing. Make sure you have all 3 available when you start reading – you will not want to stop reading them.
I just looked it up, and it looks amazing! I’ll add it to my series reading order guides, and of course, to my reading pile 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion!
I strongly suggest the House of Night series. As always, it is most definately NOT Edward and Bella, but great all the same. Hope you enjoy!
Thanks! I have the first book in that series, “Marked”, but I haven’t read it yet. Knowing me, I’ll get hooked and then -woops- there goes my wallet again!
Try ‘Immortality Bites’ by Michelle Rowen! Hilarious stuff!
I did the same. Twilight…then the Sookie series, then forever looking for a good series. I absolutely love the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost.
Have you read First Drop of Crimson yet?
Hi Maryse: Yes, I agree with your initial series reviews; read them as well. I do like Sand’s series, Kenyon’s series, and Mary Janice Davidson–very funny. I even liked the Black Dagger Brotherhood boys. I haven’t read any further into the other series mentioned (have read Harrison, and a few others.) I thought Twilight was the weakest series–could barely finish Book 4.
Could not agree more about Anita Blake. Love the Vampires, though.
Have you read any Twilight fanfiction? I’ve been reading Sookie Stackhouse and the Twi fan fiction for the last year and really enjoy the new directions so many writers have taken these amazing characters created by Charlaine & Stephanie. (Fanfiction.net) Thanks for sharing.
Hi Michelle9!
I’ve only read the Sookie fanfiction (and of course, most pertaining to Sookie & Eric – tee hee!!).
When I finished the series last year, I didn’t go directly into a new series right away, cause I was having trouble moving on from it. So I did find fanfiction.net and there were SO many good stories (and some were so long, it was almost like reading yet another novel in the series).
I was amazed how some fan-writers were actually able to pick up on Charlaine’s writing “style” of the original series, and make it seem almost seamless. Some of the stories did hold me over until I was ready to move on again. I’ve even bookmarked some of my favorites 😉
Thanks soooo much for the recommendations. I as well started with the twilight saga, then onto Sookie and Eric (lOVE HIM) then to the Night Huntress series (which I also adore), and most recently finished the House of night series. I think I’ll try Anita Blake now. Is this series most like the Night Huntress series?
Hi, just found some books i fought you would be interested in, shiver – Maggie Stevfvater and Blood and chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause these are bout about werewolfs very good. Beastly by Alex Flinn its the modern day beauty and the beast basically sounds really good. And a few series i found are Cassandra Clare :-
City Of Bones
City Of Ashes
City Of Glass
I think those are about fallen angels i cant really remember.
Lara Adrian :-
Kiss If Midnight
Kiss of Crimson
Midnight Awakening
Midnight rising
Veil Of Midnight
Ashes Of Midnight
Shades of midnight
These are about vampires storyline sounds abit like lords of the underworld havent read them yet though
Hi Lisa!
While there are some similar themes in both the Anita Books and the Night Huntress Books (vampire politics, and vampire hunting), I wouldn’t say that they are alike at all. The whole “feel” of the Anita series is completely different. I liked most of it (and can’t wait for “Bullet” to come out), but it’s different.
Mandy makes some really good suggestions (especially with the Lara Adrian series she recommends). I have read them all except for the very latest, and I intend on getting to it within the next few days. That series is more like J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and I am completely addicted to them!
Ok so I absolutely LOVE this website!! I was lost not knowing what to read next and I someone how ended up on your site!! I love reading series books and i needed more!! I like everyone else started with Twilight….and was completely obsessed! Then I did the Sookie books which were good but the writing I feel is NOT so good. Then I did the Dark-Hunter series and fell in LOVE with Acheron and all of them! Then I just did the Anita Blake ones and I was obsessed with them too!! and now Im done and have a huge list from you and everyone on here, and was wondering what you would suggest to be the next series? Like I said I have the list but wondering what you would read next? Thanks again for the awesome site!
Hi Sarah!
Have you read the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead? I LOVED it (and there is another book in the series coming out soon).
Your blog is awesome, ill take some of the recommendations into consideration! thanks!
p.s. the sookie stackhouse series is definately the best one ive read so far….
This blog is awesome! I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Thank you so much for the recommendations. I loved the Mortal Instruments, House Of Night, Black Dagger Brotherhood, and the Otherworld Series.
Just finished the Darkest Powers series by Kelly Armstrong with more adventure than romance but just enough of a triangle to drive you crazy. I also enjoyed the Sentinel Wars by Shannon K. Butcher. I can’t wait to see what happens in the Fever Series because this cliffhanger has me mental!
Anyway, thanks again. Happy Reading!
Hi i was just looking at P.C. Cast website and couldnt remember if i had mentioned before about her devine series goddess summoning series and atlantis series they sound amazing. And Gena Showalter has a new website going its not finished yet but she has some new lord of the underworld books due for releasing this year i cant wait, anyway thought id mention it because it took me ages to find a website like this you are so in the know how lol its introduce me to kresley cole and lynsay sands thanks!!!
Hi Mandy!
How did I miss the Goddess Summoning and Divine series?!? Thank you so much for those recommendations. I’ll be putting them up soon.

Thanks so much for the website!!! I am addicted to series books and have been doing audiobooks for 6mos or so- can still get laundry and the dishes done while “reading” and also helps to pass the 40min commute! Would recommend for anyone who has anything else to do…. kids, housework, sleep- the things I neglected for a few days when I read the twilight series the first time!!
Loved Kelly Armstrong- Otherworld series (even scrambled for all of the novellas and online short stories.. haha)and “reading” frostbitten now.
Cant wait for the last book in the Karen Marie Moning Fever series in December- I am hooked and not so patiently waiting on the edge of my seat. She also has a highlander series- more of a traditional romance vibe- supernatural celtic highlanders- the McKeltars- yes the fever tie-in/ time travel/ fae interference/ true love… etc
Waiting to get the reckoning by Kelley Armstrong (young adult reading- but was my first intro to KA and am looking forward to finishing it out!)
Anyway- thanks for the website and all the suggestions! I am downloading Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry books, so once I complete those, I will be back here for more inspiration!!!
Thank you for your helpful reviews. I appreciate your detail and enthusiasm. I prefer to read books that do not follow a formula, ones that are a little snarky or odd, unpredictable. It’s what I strive for in my writing.
It’s helpful to me as a reader to have access to your reviews. Thanks!
Thank you for all your reviews and I would like to recommend one of my own. It’s the Shifters series by Rachel Vincent. Though they are not vampires, but instead werecats, I was, and still am fully addicted to this series. And then proceeded to get my manager at work fully obsessed with them as well. They are engaging and exciting with plenty of humor, and at one point made me cry, which in a book is not an easy feat. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in October. I hope you and many others enjoy these books. Happy reading all!
I also read the Twilight series first and needed something else to read once that was over. This is what I have read and enjoyed so far. All of these series are paranormal, a few do not include vampires though.
Night World by L.J. Smith
Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith
Secret Circle by L.J. Smith
Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
Blue Bloods Series by Melissa De La Cruz
House of Night Series by P.C. and Kristin Cast
Immortals Series by Alyson Noel
Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine
The next list is more for adult readers the sexual content is definately more explicit
Dark Series by Christine Feehan
GhostWalkers Series by Christine Feehan
Drake Sisters Novels by Christine Feehan
Mageverse Series by Angela Knight
Atlantis Series by Gena Showalter
Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter
Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward
Immortals after Dark Series by Kresley Cole
ACRO Series by Sydney Croft
Anita Blake Series by Laurell K Hamilton
Meredith Gentry Series by Laurell K Hamilton (This is the series I just started but I’ve liked it so far)
Hope this helps everyone out! 🙂
We must have been twins in another life. I just stumbled onto your website while trying to find the correct order to read the Showalter series in and I can’t believe you mentioned practically every writer I am in love with. I love all romance but paranormal is my favorite. Kathy Love, Lynsay Sands and Sherrilyn Kenyon are my favorites. Check out Kenyon’s short stories in various compilations. Sometimes you need a “quickie” and she is amazing (in both paranormal and regular romance). In addition, you pick up on other authors you might not have heard of before.
Awww I’ve always wanted to be a twin! Cool 😉
It’s true that Kenyon’s short stories are great! And you’re right about other authors in the short story compilations. It’s how I read my favorite short story of all “Viper’s Bite” by Delilah Devlin. It’s awesome – must be read!
Wow youre a girl after my own heart ive already read some of these but now that i know where to look ill definately be coming back to see what else you reccomend. And sherrilyn kenyon is abso freaking wonderful even when she wrote highland romance under her old name.
Hi Stephanie!
It’s a great genre isn’t it? I’m dying to try the Highlander books, so thanks for the recommendation!
I have been reading like cray since Twilight. I read the Anita Blake series, The Sookie Stackhouse Series, The Blue Bloods, The House of Night Series,Vegas Vampires Series, The Undead Series(Queen Betsy) and more, but what I stumbled upon yesterday is just amazing.
Vampire Academy Series has been sitting on my shelf for a couple months now and I have been putting them on the back burner. Since Yesterday I am already on the 2nd book (Frostbite). They are great! There has been only 2 books that I have actually cried while reading, the first was the twilight series and the second was just last night finishing up Frostbite! I cant wait to start on book 3 today (Shadowkiss)!
Another series That I absolutely loved was The Immortals by Allyson Noel, Cant wait for Dark Flame in June!
This is absolutely one of my favorite series. I loved the latest book, and can’t wait to see how Richelle wraps it all up. I hate that it’s coming to an end…would be cool if she’d do a “spin-off” (the Vampire Academy crew, as adults…)
You are doing what I always thought would be cool to do!! I love your site. I was raised with my mom reading books all the time. I never wanted to read. my daughter got nominated for student of the month at her jr high school, so she was able to rent a movie as one of the perks for doing so good.Well she rented Twilight. YEP Twilight… well i watched it the fist time and it was ok I dont know why but i ended up watching it again and got completely hooked like everyone else. I had to know what was going to happen next which was not the norm for me, so my husband went out and got me all the books for my anniversary which just happen to fall a couple of days later thankfully for me!! I read all the books in a week.I hated that it had to come to a end. But really all it did was open this wonderful world of awesome vampire men to me. I also found out that while I was growing up and my mom was reading she was reading vampire books and anything that had to do with the super natural .I just go and raid her library when i want to start a new series. She has everything, she has been reading them for 30 some years so i am really lucky. She also started me on the sookie series when i finally told her i was able to move past Edward.I also read Mary Janice Davidson (Betsy & Sinclair)Christine Feehan which she is a phenomenal author all her series are good.Christine Warren, Susan Sizemore,Jeanine Frost( i named my dog after Bones one of the most sexiest vamps.)Katie Macalister,so many I have now read and i love them, my mom keeps trying to get me to read other kinds of books but right now I love reading Vampire book.I get all my friends hooked on them and I love it when they borrow books and read the series.Anyway I always thought it would be cool to have a sight where you could put what you thought about the books and find out what other people thought.you have done that. I like it, so congrats on your web page.
Like you, I am an AVID reader… I was hooked on J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series… Eve Dallas is a homicide detective living in the year 2057, these books are addictive and wonderful.. her irish husband, Roarke is a retired bad guy who is now the richest man in the world… anyway… After reading Twilight I am interested in the “vampire romance” novels… so thank you for the recommendations… I was also wondering.. do you have a kindle, or do you read paper? I am beginning to rack up the $$$ buying books and was wondering if there was an alternative?? Thanks Again, MAGGIE*
Hi everybody! I’m a little late to the party but I am giving a huge yes to everything mentioned. I have put a big bite in almost every author mentioned, although I did pick up a few new ones OR I have completely blown through everything they have written. I can 100% back Kim Harrison, MaryJanice Davidson, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and give a strong thumbs up to mmost of the others. I was SOOO HAPPY to see that someone else mentioned JD Robb, she is not supernatural but a truly great read. Also want to throw out Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie PLum series, it is laugh out loud funny, similar to Queen Betsy but no supernatural. Right down to two hunky men, crazy side kicks, and a lead with an interesting view point. If you run out of sup reads and need to fill some time, try out one of these, you may find a way to gently pull away from sexy vamps. Thanks for all of the suggestions!! Keep em coming!1
Hi Tanya! Thanks for the suggestions. My friend Lily is also enjoying the Plum series, and I’ve been told so many times that it’s very good. So you say there’s a love triangle huh? Well that’ll work for me 😉
Great reads, I love all of them. The Night Huntress series and Black Dagger Brotherhood are my favorites. Also, Richelle Mead’s Succubus series (adult) is great. And how about the werewolf books? Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville Series, Rachel Vincent’s “Shifter” series, Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series are among the best.
To Maggie the alternative i have found in my town is a paperback book exchange. I can get new and used books. i once bought a dark hunter book for 2.60. it was great! I can just keep trading or keep the books i really like. Good Luck!!
I have been hooked on paranormal romance for years and I have a big recommendation for an author whose books have been consistently overlooked, Gerry Bartlett, author of the Real Vampire series. Super funny books, action and awesome love scenes. Maggie- I started using the swap website swaptree.com about a year ago and love it! You only pay for postage and swap books that you don’t want anymore for other traders books that you are dying to read. I read about a book or two a week, so I always need new books, but can’t afford to always pop out and buy a new one. Try this site, you’ll love it.
Thanks for all the recommendations. I’m a huge Twilight fan but after reading the books for the second time I really needed a new story line. I found the Argeneau series from Lynsay Sands and have really enjoyed all of them. There all funny, exciting and romantic. The theory behind where vampires originated is interesting too, first time I’ve ever heard that idea. If you’re looking for a new series to start I highly recommand these books
Oops, my daughter the english major will have a fit over this mistake. In talking about the Aregeneau series they’re funny not there funny.
I am an avid reader.. I read a new book almost every day if I can push it in my budget, and after reading twilight I went on a paranormal binge myself. I just wanted to mention some you didn’t list, but were mention-worthy. Maybe you’ve read some? I am curious to hear your input. (Oh, and I apologize in advance because I am SURE this will be a lengthy comment)
I noticed you don’t have anything from P.C. Cast up here (LOVE P.C. Cast myself). Her Goddess Summoning series is full of juicy romance.. Not Vampire romance, but still paranormal. It’s an adult series, but it’s high on the romance.
Another is the Divine series from P.C. Cast as well, I cried my eyes out in these, they’re adult, but she introduces some young adult from the partholon series that are linked to the partholon world from the Divine series.
Masters of Time series by Brenda Joyce. Yum! (Again.. adult, but high on the romance for sure!)
For some teen appropriate and vampirically inclined, there’s the House of Night series from PC cast. P.C. Cast also teamed up with some of our favorite authors to release a collection of short stories called Immortal: Love Stories with Bite, and that’s a definite must read, I have read that there is a second book to that called Eternal: More Love Stories with Bite and I have been wanting to pick it up.
Or the Evernight series from Claudia Gray. It’s a pretty good series too.
Also, I am currently reading Morganville Vampires from Rachel Caine, and I am starting to get into it, it wasn’t an instant hook, but it’s slowly getting better.
L.J. Smith is another great one.. I LOVED the Night World series, and Vampire Diaries was OK, not my favorite, but good. She has a short series called Dark Visions, and it was a great series with a different take on vampires. Secret Circle and Forbidden Game were decent series as well..
Also, I loved The Immortals series from Alyson Noel. (Immortals, not vampires) That series can go up fairly high on the list.
And last but not least, Fallen, by Lauren Kate looks to be quite promising… I can’t wait to see how it progresses.
An excellent post Monique – Thank you!! Lots of great recommendations here, and I’m glad that you gave little hints about what we’d be getting (romance, adult or young adult).
I have a love/hate relationship with books that make me cry! hahah (I love them, because a book that can pull that kind of emotion from you must be good – and well the “hate” part is obvious) haha!
So P.C. Cast is really good huh? I have a the first in the Goddess Summoning series so maybe I’ll get to that one shortly 🙂
I left out just one other series.. Thirst from Christopher Pike.. It was better than expected and the ending made me cry.
Just want to put in my vote for Karin Marie Moning’s Highlander/Fever series. I am a voracious reader with no patience for trite or lazy writing. Many of the paranormal series I have tested don’t pass my threshold (but Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight definitely did). Then I started reading the Fever series, which left me panting for the next. Later I read Moning’s Highlander books and realized they are foreplay for Fever. Recommend reading the Highlander from beginning to end, and then jump [with pleasure] into Darkfever. The Highlanders really are a progression that helps set the table for Fever. Last book in series (Shadowfever) will be out in January 2011. Fever’s Jericho Barrons is one of the sexiest and most mysterious characters I have found. Better yet, Darkfever is a movie and trailer is available on Youtube. Can’t wait.
Agreed!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fever series. I did it in reverse though. I started with the Fever series, and right now I’m heading into book #4 of the Highlanders.
Ugh, I know what you mean about the love/hate relationships with the books that make you cry. I can’t seem to make myself cry about anything important in RL, but nosed up in a book, I will ball like a baby, it’s ridiculous. Same with movies.
Oh yes, I love P.C. Cast myself.. And I hope you love the Goddess Summoning series, I enjoyed them!
Hey Monique – have you read “The Host” yet? If you’re in the mood for a good cry…READ THAT!!!
I cried and cried, and had to put the book away. I watched a comedy, felt much better and was ready to get back to my book. The minute I started reading I starting sobbing again!
My husband was bewildered….
Oh yes.. I read The Host, and I cried my eyes out too. Don’t feel bad, lol! I heard rumor that they might make The Host into a movie. I think it would make an excellent movie. I also hear rumor that she’s going to make it a series! But then again.. rumors..
The Divine series from P.C. Cast is a tear jerker, particularly “Divine By Blood” I cried SOOO hard! And it’s the first chapter that gets you!
Ooooooh!!! I gotta read it! What is WRONG with me? LOL!!
“Ooooooh!!! I gotta read it!” directly translates to “Ooooooh!!! I gotta find a reason to make myself ball like a baby!” LOL! I, too, am guilty!
Maybe we are crazy! But we’re having a good time being crazy! 🙂
have been on the supernatural/ Vampire kick ever since Twilight!
Monique & Maryse: I am w/you on PC CAST!!! She is my favorite.. the HOUSE OF NIGHT SERIES is absolutely awesome!!! I’m waiting on the last book… I’m getting ready to read the Goddess series. I absolutely love Richelle Meade: Vampire Academy, but I really love the Succubus series! Christopher Pike: Thirst 1 & 2 is good, hard to get into, but good… Monique could you hint to me what happened in the last of Thirst 2 please? I didn’t get a chance to finish the last 2 chps had to be back at library. Thx.
I am also getting ready to read the Kim Harrison the Witch series, hope its good. I am now reading LA Banks: Vampire Huntress Series… its good, but I am trying to find something more like House of Night series or Vampire Academy…
I’ve read the first book in the Immortal Series: Allyson Noel & really liked it.. I need to get Blue Moon, next.. also the Morganville Vampires.. I’m w/you on that.. was hard to get into, but now I want to read more!
There are so many out there, that I feel like my head is gonna spin off my shoulders! LOL.. I believe that I will go on to the Goddess Summoning series by PC Cast next… sounds very interesting! Although, Highlanders sound great… uggh, I need a KINDLE or something!
See what I mean… I ramble on, b/c all these books are awesome!!! I haven’t found an author so far that I don’t like… The only one I thought was slow was honestly Christopher Pike; however, the series Thirst began picking up…
I am going to have to sit down & go back through here & make a list, then type it up, so when I’m out then I can pick these books up!
thanks everyone for the wonderful posts & recommendations for Supernatural/ Paranormal/ Vampire/ Romance/ Immortal series….
OMG, I CAN’T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS MENTIONED CASSANDRA CLARE W/THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS SERIES, CITY OF BONES, CITY OF ASHES, & CITY OF GLASS! SO FAR THESE ARE THE ONLY THREE; HOWEVER, I JUST FOUND OUT THE FOURTH BOOK WILL BE OUT DEC 2010!! SHE HAS 2 MORE BOOKS SCHEDULED AFTER THAT!!! CHECK THESE BOOKS OUT…
ITS ABOUT THIS GIRL NAMED CLARY & SHE DOESN’T KNOW SHE POSSESSES POWERS LIKE A BOUNTY HUNTER STYLE… NO VAMPIRES… MORE LIKE EVIL SPIRITS, IMMORTALS… ETC… PLEAE CHECK THEM OUT THEY WERE ON THE TOP OF MY LIST TO READ!! I POSTED WEBSITE BELOW TO HELP YOU OUT!
https://www.mortalinstruments.com/
ONE LAST THING MORTAL INSTRUMENTS… IT DOES CONSISTS OF VAMPIRES (TYPO EARLIER THINKING OF ANOTHER SERIES); HOWEVER, ITS MORE LIKE SHADOW HUNTERS, DOWN WORLDERS STYLE… SORRY FOR TYPO & ALL OF MY LONG POSTS!
AMY: Thank you so much, I used the swaptree.com & am receiving Goddess of Sea for $2.38, cheaper than a used bookstore!
I can’t believe that Gena Showalter The Lords of the Underworld series hasn’t been mentioned!! It’s great!!! I’m reading the latest book in the series now.
Hi,
Nice recommendations. Yes, Karen Marie Moning is of my favorite series. I read twilight first like many people and had to find books that were similar. Now, I’ve read everything from sookie stackhouse to the blackdagger. I have however expanded and evolved as a reader and started reading many different urban fantasy books other than just “vampire books”. I started looking for books that were unique and addicting. I thank Stepahnie Meyer for opening me up to this wonderful genre I didn’t know could hold so many promises!! We have similar tatste in books, but there are some that I adore that are not on your list so I’ll throw them out there.
Ilona Andrew’s magic series is extremely good! I don’t know if you’ve heard of her, but I was very surprised not to see her on your list! There’s probably no space to talk about each book or author (lol)so i’ll just list them below.
Ilona Andrew’s magic series
Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series
Karen chance cassie palmer and Dorina Basarab series
Faith Hunter’s Jane yellowrock series
Vicki Peterson’s sign of the zodiac series
Jennifer Estep’s Elemental assasin
Molly Harper’s Jane Jameson series
Kat Richardson’s Greywalker series.
Hope you like them. There are a couple on your list that I haven’t read so I have to check them out. I’ve Sherrilyn Kenyon I’ve heard of, but never tried. I think it’s about time 🙂 Have a good one!
Thanks Meeh!!
I was actually recommended Ilona’s series this week (her latest one). Have you read Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts yet? Oh you’ll love it I’m sure!!!! It’s my favorite this year (along with Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series)
Wow! I just looked up the author you recommended and the book is right up my alley. Thanks! I added it on my to buy list. If you compared it to the fever series then it must be very good. Ilona Andrew’s latest series is the edge and the one I was talking about is the magic series. I have bought the edge(her latest one), but I still have it on my “to read” pile. Thank you again. BTW, Good job on your site, recommendations, and reviews. This is a lot of work! You should be paid for it!! 🙂
I just started the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning & absolutely love them!! I am also reading Kim Harrison’s (The Hollow Series).. Dead Witch Walking is the first one… these are absolutely wonderful too.. very similar to the Fever series in some aspects! Great recommendations Meeh! You ought to try Cassandra Clare w/the Mortal Instruments series.. these are awesome!
I love this website and I am so happy I found it! I started on the Twilight books and then someone told me to start the True Blood books. I have read the first 4 and I am now trying to figure out how to get the series on Netflix. I have also read the JD Robb “In Death” series and I can’t wait for the next installment of that!
I just wanted to mention that I get my books from thriftbooks.com. They are used books and they have free shipping. I couldnt find alot of the books I wanted to read at my local used book store and I refused to pay more for shipping than I would for the book. Thriftbooks is awesome and they ALWAYS (so far, fingers crossed) have what I want in stock. Now the free shipping is great but it does take between 5-7 days to get them once they leave the store. I then take them to my local used book store for credit on other books they do have.
Hi Jennifer!!
Thanks so much for the recommendation 🙂
Nina Bangs has The Castle of Dark Dreams it is paranormal and is great she has a few others that I have yet to read but am getting there if life would just let me sit and read sometimes I would be a happy woman 🙂
OH oH there is also the patrica briggs Mercy Thompson books to the are wolf books but where would Twilight be if not for the most loveale wolf Jake xx
I can’t believe it took me this long to find you!!! I read through the Twilight series (more than once) and didn’t know where to go from there… Tried the Stackhouse series… BUT… since I watch the show – the damage had been done – it just didn’t translate well… I’ve always been a sci-fi (Stephen King) fan… but now… a whole new genre awaits me… Read through the Blue Blood series in a week (waiting for my NookColor for the next book) and am currently knee deep in the Vampire Academy series… Cried like a little girl – Thank you Dimitri! So… after reading through your site – I don’t know where to go from here… Help!
I love this website!!! Thank you for having this. I just finished with Lauren Kate Fallen. I loved it, can’t wait to read the second one. One of my all time favorites is Jeannie Frost!!!! I can read her books over and over. I also recommended Yasmine Galenorn, PC Cast, Alson Noel, Richelle Mead & Adrian Phoenix.
I just picked up LJ Smith Vampire Diaries….
IS there a good website to pick up books for cheap?
Hi Jenn!! Thanks for coming 😉 I love the majority of the author’s you’ve mentionned, and am anxious to start on Yasmine Galenorn’s and Alyson Noel’s! I hear the Immortals series is really good.
Hi I just have to say that I am very shocked at all the books out there in the world. See I am 22yr old mom of two and a wife to a soldier. So as you can imagine I am never alone or never have free time to sit and read. Except at night. Well I used to read books when I was little and then I stopped but when I heard about twilight saga, I wasn’t very interested… My younger cousin was wanting the books and yeah.. Not I. The movie came out and we seen it and I wasn’t into it really, until the newmoon movie came out and I bought it and watched it, then bought twilight movie and watched them both in order. well in new moon it leaves you hanging alot, so I wentout and bought eclipse the book and read it then breaking dawn then twilight then new moon and then I read the first 12 chptrs of midnight sun. I wish so much that I had read the books first (in order) then the movies. But I keep finding my self watching the 3 movies of twilight I have and then reading breaking dawn, all this at least twice a month.. I guess you can say I am addicted. I can be on the computer (back to the tv) and say every line word for word to the movies. I realized I was getting nowhere with twilight saga except being mad that there was no more books to read in the saga. So I was looking for the vampire love adventure novels, and I came across “the night world”. I bought the first book about a month ago, but just now started to read it and I am very hooked on it.. I was afraid that wasn’t going to be anything like twilight at all, but it is very close to the saga. So now I am so addicted to the immortal world with the love triangles and the secrets and law breaking adventures, That i seem to have to have these things in my life. I feel like a teenage boy who is so obsessed with the video games. But I am glad that there are other books out there that has something close to the twilight, it has eased my impatience. But for my My first and only love will be The Twilight Saga, I wish she would write more. I would love to know the future of the cullens and the werewolf packs. and Especially Renesmee and jacob. But I am So Hooked on Edward. And this is weird to say, But once i started reading the books of twilight saga I realized that my husband is basically my Edward and I am Bella. He has very pale skin (because his mom is a Redhead)even though he is always in the sunlight and should have a tan, but it never darkens him, and he has light brown hair when long, but when it is cut for military it is red Like edwards, And his eyes are Orange, sometimes light brown But even random ppl have argued that his eyes are orange/red. and Of course I am a natural brown Haired girl with highlights and I am very very stubborn.. So My love for twilight is oh so true, But it is just disappointing that There is no more to read after breaking dawn. So I will take the recommendations above and try to Suffice. =(.
Ok next, Brandi, since you love Twilight so much, I think Vampire Academy would suit you nicely. Love that series, and there is still one more book to come!
Thanks, I am actually kinda gettin hooked on night world. I just finished the first book, and I was so hooked on ash and marylynnette, that i read the other (unfinushed) part of their story. But Im the Kind of person that really dont want to read unless I know it will drag me in and take me along in the story. I will sit in walmart and grab a book and read the first page and put it back(like dear john) I loved the movie but not the book. I will read the vampire academy, And i will tell you how if i like it. thanks
hello, love this site, i just finished all the Sherrylon Kenyon books, im a speed reader, so now i need a new romantic paranormal series, with LOTS of books in it!!! please recommend a series for me. thanks
My first “next” choice for you – Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward – one of my favorites without a doubt! Anyone else have a recommendation?
I just got done with Yasmine Galenorn Night Myst. I loved it. The next book in this series does not come out until next Summer. I have read of few of her Otherworld Series they were good but I enjoyed her new Night Series better.
I am going to start Karen Marie Moning over the weekend.
I love J.R.Ward the Black Dagger Brotherhood most of all, Sherrylon Kenyon really enjoyed her books. Karen Marie Moning’s series are also great!! I love your site and will definitely be reading many of your recommendations 🙂
P.S. Also loved the Hunger Games series.. highly recommended by Stephanie Meyer.
thank you so much for this website. i love it!!! your recommendations are amazing, and 9 times out of 10 i agree with your book reviews (i read them after i finish the book). i started with Twilight, then moved on to Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters, Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series, then Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake and Merry Gentry. After reading all those series, i found your website and was introduced to Lynsay Sands’s Argeneau family, Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress, Kathy Love’s Bourbon Street Vampires, and JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. Of all those books, my favorites are The Dark Hunters, The Night Huntress, The Brotherhood, and The Argeneau’s. I feel like I have read everything. Can you recommend any more series?
Yup sure can! My three obsessions this year were:
Vampire Academy
https://www.maryse.net/books/richelle-mead-vampire-academy-series-reading-order.html
Karen Marie Moning’s Fever Series
https://www.maryse.net/reading-order-guide/karen-marie-moning-fever-series-reading-order.html
Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series:

🙂
Just thought you all would might like to read the lord of the underworld series by Gena Showalter. It is very good and most of all addicting. I love JR Ward Black dagger brother hood is just awesome!!!! I actuallylike her new one as well the fallen Angel series. I am now reading Sherrilyn Kenyon and highly recommend those. Have fun reading!!!!!
I just came across this blog when I was searching for a new series to read and thought what an amazing idea you have to help people out after the twilight depression sets in lol. I was shocked so many people went thru the same thing! I figured I should help out as well so I am going to post all the series I have read and love and maybe help out the next person. All the series I’ve read are for adults. I know Twilight is for teens but when I tried to read any of the other young adult vampire series I couldn’t get into them. So here are my favorites..I’ll list them from my favorite to my least favorite.
ANITA BLAKE SERIES by Laurell K Hamilton
MERRY GENTRY SERIES by Laurell K Hamilton
THE HALLOWS/RACHAEL MORGAN by Kim Harrison
SOOKIE STACKHOUSE by Charlaine Harris
NIGHT HUNTRESS (CAT AND BONES) by Jeaniene Frost

Stormie – that is an awesome list and I tons I haven’t read yet.
Once I read Twilight I was hooked!!!! I cant get enough, I have bought several seies. House of Night, Mortal Instraments, Morganville Vampires,I just finished Love at Stake series and thought they were awsome!
What a great webapage! I’ve bookmarked it. Just thought I’d point out a series that is somewhere in between Anita & Sookie in style: Riley Jensen Guardian, by Keri Arthur. I had read Twilight then Sookie and was wanting more and a coworker told me about Riley. This series will continue soon as Dell books has bought rights and you’ll be seeing more of the authors books soon. I found Anita after her and totally agree with you, addictive but the ardeur is arduous! And I don’t discuss with my Mom either.
Another author for a fun read with more romance, less graphic sex scenes, is Jayne Ann Krentz (also writes under Amanda Quick and Jane Castle). She has several series in the paranormal line. She’s pretty Mom safe too. 🙂
Just began Ilona Andrews series “starring” Kate Daniels. Seems Kate is as badass as Riley Jensen or Anita Blake but without all the “work & mom unsafe” sex. This doesn’t make the stories tamer at all. So far the two I’ve read are fun, fast-paced and just the ticket after a long tiring day at work.
Thanks Cathy for the recommendation! It has been recommended a few times, so I know I need to read it. This will make it on my “To Read List” for this year. Can’t wait!!
Hey Maryse,
Have you ever read the Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick? I know its not about vampires which I love. Its about fallen angels, & is a young adult book but great also. I dont see it on your review list but if you have the chance Id be interested to hear your review on it. She has 2 books in the series out & another coming in October 2011 that is heard to be the last.
Thanks for the dark hunters reading order, I just received
A good 30 books..lol great sure, saving for future references
Some other vamp series I love r moganville vampires by rachel caine vampire academy by richelle mead my blood approves by amanda hocking and so far my favorite behind twilight is a chicagoland vampire by chloe neill
Great choices with the YA stuff Kirarae. I hear Amanda Hocking is doing really well with her series, so I’m going to look into that one also.
hey so… i`m loving this suggestion site, a couple along the same lines as stormie that are my favorites and have not been mentioned i cannot believe it! these 2 are definitly in my top 5 no vamps but really good adult paranormal romance!
kelley armstrongs other world series
shifters by rachel vincent
Wow, I’ve never seen such a large amount of paranormal/vampire book series complied all in one place. It blows my mind. I must say thank you for posting these along with all their reading orders, I’m extremly excited to get started on them (:
Once again I would like to say thanks, and continue your reviews!
– Bianca R, 17
Hi Bianca! Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback. This site is like my own private library… with friends that hang out and actively get excited with me! I love doing it 🙂
i keep seeing a mention of the dark ones, are these the carpathian novels? if not than what and who is the author?
if not the carpathians, than i must suggest that everyone that is into vamps read these books, there are 21 in the seies and gooooood!!!
This website has been a tremendous help. Before I found this blog I was kind of stuck on what to read next. I read a lot of paranormal books and I started some of the series you reccomended and so far I love everything. Im in the middle of.the fever series and it great!! You should try patricia briggs mercy thompson series and morganville vampires. Thanks again for this website its amazing!!
You had some great suggestions. I along with everyone else started with twilight and fell in love with the urban fantasy genre. As I read more books my perceptions as well as what I look for in a book changed. The genre has grown tremendously over the years and some series are just plain crap lol. I’m tired of reading the same ole stuff, so I try to look for originality and creativity. Also, there’s “true urban fantasy” and then there’s paranormal romance. The two can be close, but of course are different. Para normal romance has the paranormal element but still romance. I for one will choose true urban fantasy over paranormal romance. I like the world building and realistic romance…you know…the kind where people actually take their time to get to know each other before they know “he/she is the one” lol.
For instance, there are two suggestions from Maryse way back that I absolutely loved that has the right mix of romance (not overly done). The top two were her suggestions to me 🙂 Okay…so if you like true urban fantasy then I have some suggestions. All of them are creative and hard to put down!
Karen Marie Moning’s fever series is still my favorite true urban fantasy to date. I can’t wait for the spin off to come out! I just hope they don’t have cliff hangers lol
Stacia Kane downside series is another one that I really like. It took some getting used to initially, but I fell in love with the series.
Carolyn Crane’s disillusionist series is a creative idea that I don’t think I’ve seen in any urban fantasy series at all. First book is mind games and there are two out right now.
Vicki Pettersson Zodiac series again is original and I totally love the series. The fourth and fifth book put this author at the top of my list!
Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series is another very well written true urban fantasy. There’s romantic tension, but no action until later books.
I must start by saying thank you for all the amazing suggestions on what next to read. I have read Twilight and Vampire Academy so far which are both amazing series. Right now I am reading Thirst by Christopher Pike. The Thirst series contains three books and has three sections inside each. I am on the second novel and if you are a action lover this series is a good pick. Thirst has some romance but not much its mostly action but still really good. Please keep this sight going.
Thanks. 🙂
I have enjoyed alll of the series you recommended, so I think you will also like Larissa Ione’s Demonica series, Gena Showalter’s Alien Huntress series and her Lords of the Underworld series. Kresley Cole also has a good series – Immortals after dark.
I really Love Lara Adrian series, Midnight Breed. It is an awesome series, Its a book you can’t put down. There are 10 right now with the promise of more to come. If you love the Blackdagger Brotherhood, this is right there with it.
Charlene – you are so right about the Midnight Breed – they helped me out when I was missing my BDB
Jessica – how are you liking the Christopher Pike series? I have the first book, but haven’t gotten to it yet.
Tanya – agree with you for Fever and Downside. LOVED those books. They had my heart racing and I was reading them every chance I got. I’m interested in the Zodiac series for sure, especially after what you just mentionned.
Justine – I’m so glad you are enjoying the website. Like I’ve said, I get many great recommendations from other readers so it helps me out too!
Lisa – I enjoy the Carpathians (especially the first 3 or 4 books) but I take those in small doses, or else they get to be too repetitive all in a row.
Love all the suggestions… other books to read are Hex Hall Series by Rachel Dawkins, Georgia Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead, Dark Swan Series by Richelle Mead, Strange Angels Series by Lili St. Crow, Darkest Power Series by Kelley Armstrong– she is also starting a new series called the Darkest Rising Series, Den of Shadows Series by Amelia Atwater Rhodes, Intertwined by Gena Showalter, Touch Series by Laurie Faria Stolarz, Wolves of Merct Fall Series by Maggie Steifvater, Evernight Series by Claudia Gray, The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel, and House of Night Series by PC and Kristen Cast
Hello Marsye,
Love all of your suggestions b/c I instantly fell in love with Twilight in a way I have never loved a book before, I had never read a book more than once, I ended up rereading them 6 more times!
I am curious if you or any of your blog readers know what book I am looking for, I was picking up Hunger Games, Hush Hush and Shiver and read the back of a book, it was about a girl who moves, her boyfriend had just died. He saves her life. It was in the YA section but I didn’t get it and now I am regretting it, I really would like to read it. Know which one I am speaking of? It’s a series and just sounded so lovely.
Thanks!
Stephenie
thanks everyone soooo much i just now got a nook for my b-day and i am almost done with the morganville vampire series and it is fabulous. i think i am about to start the black dagger brotherhood. but i would love to be able to read a vampire book that is more adult based that is a series. if anyone has any suggestions plz let me know!!!!!!! thanks
I am sooo surprised to hear no mention of Kim Harrison’s Hollows Series~ it is beyond a doubt one of my favs! Such a wonderful series with really fun characters and interesting relationships. The lead is Rachel Morgan who lives with a Pixie, Jenks and a vampire, Ivy. Its got a page turning plot. The Last book out pale Demon I read in one sitting it was so good I couldn’t put it down! Maybe a little more action, but the romatic tension builds wonderfully.
Hi Mindy!
The Hollows series has been recommended to me a ton! Sounds like a fun “roomate” type situation. Kinda like the “Being Human” show, and I love when the romance isn’t *easy* to come by, in a series. It’s there, but building. LOVE that! Thanks for the recommendation!
My vampire “fix” actually started with Anita Blake in Sophomore year in High School! I love her! I didnt realize how arduous it got at book like 6 but I still enjoy reading and will enjoy reading! I always get excited when she comes out with a new one.
I also enjoy the Merry gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I think its wierd her characters “look” like her but I still enjoy reading the stories! There are only 8 books in the Merry Gentry series but it has the feel of Anita Blake!
I liked the twilight series, but I enjoy Anita Blake wayyyy more!
I will definately be giving some of these other series a try! Im so excited, I have never seen such a good list of vampire books compiled to make us hooked on “vampires” happy! Thanks so much! Definately bookmarked.
Hi Shani! I too once had an Anita (actually, more like a Jean Claude) obsession… I wish, though, that the newer books had more of the “old” feel to ’em. Ah well…
To Brandi Tate
If your looking for a good adult vampire series, I recommand, The Blood Tie series by Jennifer Armintrout. There are four in the series, 1. The Turning
2. Possession, 3. Ashes to Ashes, and 4. All Souls Night.
The best series ever to get over twilight is defiantly the immortal instruments series by Cassandra clare. Like everyone else I went into mourning after twilight but quickly replaced it with the immortal instruments “city if bones” got me hooked. A must read for anyone that loved twilight and I can’t stress it enough!!!!!!
Maryse,
Happened upon your site while looking for something new to read. I get restless while waiting for series releases!! Some of my favorites that got me past Twilight were: The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, Fallen series by Lauren Kate, The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa and Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick. I also really like the Vampire Kisses books by Ellen Schreiber, though pretty light reading. I don’t know what it is about them, but I always buy the next one! My newest love is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Wow! I would describe as supernatural meets Outlander. This is the first of a trilogy. Plus the main characters have their own facebook pages!! Well, those are my favs. Keep on reading and Thanks for the suggestions!
I am in love with “Vampire Kisses” by Ellen Scheiber. There are 8 books so far. The other series I am in love with is “The Immortals” By Allison Noel. It has got me hooked there are only 6 books sadly. It is not about vampires but I think its a good break from vampires, I will warn you though THEY ARE ADDICTING!!!! I had butterflies after the last one. I read it in 1 day and a half.
This site is awesome! I normally have a difficult time finding more books like the ones i love reading! After I finished Twilight, my mother went and bought me the first book to the House of Night (PC + Kristin Cast). I own and have read all the book so far and loved them. Even my mother (who isnt a huge vamp fan and really doesnt like to read) got hooked. haha. I also have read Vampire Academy (mother too) and The Immortals Series (Allison Noel) (which mother is now begging me for). Im super excited about the recommendations to a bunch of new series!! Cant wait to get started!
PS The Fallen Series (Lauren Kate) is another great series. Its more about angels who choose the side of good (fallen angels) and who choose evil (demons) and i loved every book so far in this one too!!
Excellent suggestions Rachel! Are you ready for the Vampire Academy spin-off? I can finally crush on Adrian like I wanted to!! LOL!
Maryse,
Your site was recommended by my sister, great to get some new authors & series !!!!
Love the Jax Series by Ann Aguirer, and Kitty Norville the Werewolf series by Carrie Vaughn. Succubus series by Richelle Mead along with Vampire Academy, Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series is great & love Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, her Edger series is also good. Will add my encouragement to read the Hollows by Kim Harrison.
Agree whole hartedly about the Anita blake thing, will read them as they are published but would like to see more of the original books’ recipe & plotting, although the latest one was a little more on track.
Keep them coming.
Hi Jennifer!! Thank you for taking the time to let me know your favorites. Succubus Series looks to be a HUGE winner and is frequently recommended to me, so I intend on getting to that one next.
Hi Maryse, I love your site and a lot of the series I have read and i am always looking for more. I read and loved Kelley Armstrong Women and Men of the Otherworld series, from the first book Bitten to her newest. The characters are intermingled in each book and you get to read all their stories. They don’t centre around one type either they include werewolves, vampires, witches and necromancers
Hey Maryse, i just wanted to say thank you for this site. I love that you and your readers are here to give suggestions on new seriers to be read. I am new to your site but this is were I will go from now on to find a new series to be read.
I have read all of Christine Feehan, Laurrell Hamilton, J.R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon & Kresley Cole’s books and loved them dearly. My Favorite characters are by far Z from BDB and Acheron from the Dark Hunters series which both made me cry. I loved the fact that Kresley Cole in the Immortals After Dark series had a mix of all kinds of different beings with all kinds of quirky personallities like “Nucking Futs Nix” Who just cracks me up.
I also wanted to add Christina Dodd’s Chosen Ones & Darkness Chosen series and for YA The Sweep series by Cate Tiernan.
I just finish The Dark-Hunter Series & Im about to start The Chronicles of Nick but after that Im lost. Do you any sugestions on where I may go next?
First and foremost I would like to thankyou for your most informative site. Your suggestions are keeping me sane. I too started with the Twilight series and now i have read hundreds of others and started feeling like there was nothing left for me to read… then I discovered you on youtube. I’m a stay at home mom and my kids are at school so its kind of like a ‘while the cats away the mice will play’ situation. lol. Each time I check your site I do so with a pen and paper to write down the next set of books to read. So thankyou.
i fell in love with reading again and started with the Sookie series then went to BDB and your site is bookmarked on my laptop and my iphone.. i always come to see what your reading and your recomendations!
thank you!!!!
Thanks for your great top 10 vampire book recommendations.

I have to say I absolutely love your site. I have used it many times, usually for the Lords of the Underworld list and have decided to look into it for more info. This has to be one of the most informative websites out here for our particular brand of books and look forward to checking it out regularly. Thanks for the info and opinions. I will definitely be checking out some of your recommendations.
I love love this website. I’m off on my holidays in a few days and need some book ideas 🙂
I’ve read twilight saga (of course) loved it and was very addicted to it! I’ve read the books at least 5 times!
I then read the sookie stackhouse books, I loved these more than twilight! I like that they were more of an adult book… If you know what I mean!
I’m just finishing the dark hunter series by sherrilyn kenyon. I’m loving these books! I love the romance in them and they are quite steamy!
So what do I read next? I like romance/ steamy books like the dark hunter series!
Suggestions please.
Mandy… have you read the Black Dagger Brotherhood yet? It is my favorite series!!
Thanks for recommending Fifty Shades of Grey. The author did a great job writing about such a challenging subject. Also, your reading order lists are sometimes more coherent than some of the author’s webpages. Thanks for the reading order lists! Have you read Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines yet? It seems to be a promising start to her new series.
Hi Whitney!!
Thank you so much for commenting. I too, had a hard time with reading orders when I first started reading again, so I decided the best way to fix my problem, was to reasearch and then list them myself, for future reference.
i don’t know f anyone has already recomended these books, but, the dark series by Christine Feehan is unbelievable. they’re adult only books and totally worth hiding away for…:)
I have just finished Love is Darkness (A Valerie Dearborn Novel) by Caroline Hanson. Great book, great read with lots of tension between the scary but so cool vamp and the tortured hunter and Valerie the girl in between (who would rather be finishing her degree in England). Haven’t come across any mention of Caroline Hanson books on any of the paranormal sites. Found it as a very underpriced ebook and would highly recommend the book. The second novel is coming out in December …. I can’t wait.
Thank you so much for that recommendation Sandra. I will be looking that one up, and adding it to the blog 🙂
OMG when i first looked at the twilight series, i was not into reading anything. i would just skim through it to make sure my kids werent reading smut, you know what i mean, a page here and there randomly selected. they had enuff garbage in their lives was the way i saw it and that was it. never gained any real interested in it because thats what i was doing. so one day at work my friend tells me that she is reading twilight and i said oh the kiddie vampire book. she looked at me like i had grown 3 heads! she said to me, “This is the 3rd time i have read this book so i am giving it to you to read it. ” I told her what i had done in the past and she insisted that i read it. so long story short, i was reprimanded at work 3 times for just reading that book. Almost lost my job and husband that could not understand how a book could take over his wife. I have read each book so many times that i know parts by heart. my kids get mad when i correct them during conversations about twilight because they get their stories mixed up. my husband has realized any love is good love so long as i am happy, let me read! otherwise i had never been into reading as much until i read twilight. now i want it all. Thanks to my one good coworker who i drive insane everytime i find a good book or new series. i just emailed the link to this page to by the way. oh god im babbling again. its just so great to find a page where i can set these emotions free. maryse, does this ever get better???? Aye Dios mio!!!!
I too fell in love with the Twilight series and was sad when i finished the last book. I am so glad I found your blog. I love reading these kinds of books and was looking for more. I read a series by Patricia Briggs called the Mercy Thompson Series. I think it’s a great series. It deals with vampires, werewolves, fae and a shape shifter with romance and danger. Here are the titles of the books
Moon Called
Blood Bound
Iron Kissed
Bone Crossed
Silver Borne
River Marked
I can’t wait to get some of your recommendations and start reading.
Pam
The reading list gets longer and I am now running out of time, guess i am going to have to get in shape and exercise so that I can live long enough to read all these books, work, have a husband and some kind of life while eternally reading. Fountain of youth anyone? if your holding out, we are gonna each need a glass to read all this! LOLOL
I totally agree. Sign me up for the fountain of youth. Instead of my list getting shorter it keeps getting longer and longer. Thanks so much for all the great reads!!!! I would be lost without this site 🙂
I too am an avid fan of the paranormal and have read all of Twilight, Charlaine Harris and also Patricia Briggs. There is also a series of hers that is a spin off called Indigo Court and it is very good. I have recently gotten into reading Yasmine Galenorn and her series including Witchling, Changeling, etc. This series has intrigued me and I recommend the read.
Have to say Maryse the list is great and i totally agree with the Fever series , absolutely loved it. As soon as i put one book down i picked up another. Awesome ^^
Lise – the FEVER series is one of my absolute favorites. And she will be writing a trilogy spin-off and then back to writing more Barrons and Mac!
Larissa Ione has a really good series also, another author I have added to my “must read” list.
I love your website. My first vampire series I ever read was by Christine Feehan then went on Lindsay Sand and so on. My favorite so far is Sherrilyn Kenyon. Thank you for introducing me to other series.
I just got done reading fifty shades trillogy by e l james it was i really good trilogy. i am sad that it has ended. i feel the ending was rushed and skiped alot of detail. i think entirly there could of been another book at least for sure. i cant wait for her to write some more books she was really good author and is. and also i loved the twilight saga i was also bummed to see that end as well. 🙁 but right now im debating between reading sookie stackhouse and the fever series i cant decide :/ -.-
Tabby both are great!! I’d say between the two series, I preferred Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series.
Try reading Gena Showalter. She has several series and they are very much adult reading – probably hotter than most of the series you have mentioned. She also has a couple of young adult series that are great reading as well.
I just finished reading the Blood Royal Chronicles and really enjoyed them. I’m looking to see if there will be a book 8. Having issues getting on to the Authors website. I have also read the Charlenne Harris Books of Sookie Stackhouse love the series and the Show. Just started the series Morganville Vampires I hope that they are just as good or better.
Thanks,
Sharla
One series that I found by accident (my wonderful husband saw it at the library and checked it out for me) is the “Nice Girls Don’t have Fangs” series by Molly Harper. She also wrote a werewolf series that is good as well. I laughed out loud throughout all the books. Smart, funny female accidently turned into a vampire with the same family drama and relationship issues we all have. My other favorite authors (in addtion to Stephanie Meyer) include Gena Showalter, Kreseley Cole and Ellen Schrieber.
Just finished Dark-Hunters. Can you name a few just-as-long series.
Thanks
The Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick was a smooth transition from twilight. As for paranormal it is fallen angels not vampires. Great love story tied but has you guessing who the bad guy is up until the end.
I am new to your website, but not to paranormal books. There are several comments and recommendations about the Twilight series. I have never read any of the books. Maybe I’m looking at it wrong, but I perceived the characters to be teenagers. I left my teen years long, long ago. I’m not saying that young people are incapable of having intense and true emotions; I’m just saying for me I need the romance characters to be adults. Hard core descriptive sex is not what I’m talking about. The characters need to be old enough to know themselves, before they can learn to blend with another person. I look for characters that find the one person who can help them lead fulfilling happy lives….or in some cases deaths. I do not mean to down grade young readers or writers. Just that for me this type of book is not what I would consider as a “paranormal romance” possibility.
I would have to agree with almost everything you’ve said 🙂 and as someone mentioned before I recommend the Mercy Thompson series – mercy a coyote running with werewolves working for a fae fixing a vampires bus (also known as the scoot van) – she is Mercedes the VW mechanic – theres romance mystery action … What’s not to love!!! Also if you like paranormal romance where Greek gods meet strong minded 20th century women try the Goddess Summoning series by P C Cast – it was the first paranormal romance I read before Bohr Black Dagger books and after everything I’ve read I would still read most of them again !!! Love your work by the way
I have read all those series with the exception of Bourbon Street Trilogy. They all are great reads. Christine Feehan has a wonderful series that is worth a read. Carpathians , with only one person in time that can “save” them. It is a great series with many books in it!
Ok I searched your site and could not find anything on this series. I think I have found another what to read after Twightlight. Three of four books are out with the next coming this summer. The series is called The Premonition Series by Amy A. Bartol. Books in order are Inescapable, Intuition, and Indebted with Incendiary coming soon. So I thought this was going to be a little ya after the latestest doses of Kristen Ashley, Silvia Day, etc… But I went ahead any way and got sucked in to this world of Angels and Demons and the main character’s struggles with good and evil, her premonitions, and some hot leading men (good and oh so bad:)). Definitelybrecommend
i have read most of the series up there i am very very hooked to a series by melissa marr called the wicked lovely series i love it and i also love the mercy thompson series by Patrica briggs i actually stumbled on the mercy thompson one because we had the same last name but i love it lol and also alpha and omega series by patrica also
I AGREE WITH YOU 100% ON THE ANITA BLAKE SERIES. IT IS TOO GRAPHIC FOR CHILDREN AND SHOULD ONLY BE READ BY ADULTS. HER SERIES NEVER REALLY COMES CLOSE TO THE LOVEY DOVEY IN TWLIGHT, BUT THERE IS A FEW GOOD STORY LINES FOR THAT. MOST OF THE BOOKS ARE WELL WRITTEN, BUT I MUST SAY THERE ARE A FEW BOOKS THAT SHE JUST THREW TOGETHER AND THEY ARE A HUGE DISPPOINTMENT.
Hi there!
I stumbled across this website trying to determine whether or not there would be a Merry Gentry book 9. (Still clueless..) However there are a few authors that I think are memorable mentions.
Yasmine Galenorn (paranormal romance) She writes the Otherworld series.
First book is Witchling.
Richelle Mead also writes an adult series called the Dark Swan series (or something to that effect.)
I would also recommend the house of night series by PC and Kristin Cast.
James Patterson writes a wonderful series for young adults called the Maximum ride series.
Hi guys,
Some other series I’d very strongly recommend is immortality bites. I am so in love with this one as it’s full of funny sarcasm (which is just me to a T) and also has the strong romance aspect with a hint of a far few love triangles.
The other vampy series is love at stakes by Kerrelyn Sparks: https://www.maryse.net/books/kerrelyn-sparks-love-at-stake-series-reading-order.html
Last but not least is the Her Angel series, one that is definitely not for the younger generation! In each book we meet the gorgeous hunks that are angels and explore how each cope with there new found forbidden loves between an angel and a mortal. These books are so hot they may set on fire, but I highly recommend you give them a try.
🙂 have fun reading Xx
Thank you Scarlett!!
I found a vampire love story that I absolutely loved! Forever Freed by Laura Kaye, the love story was absolutely beautiful! I read it 3 times and cried all 3 times!
Oh yes!! That was a great one. I reviewed it last year I think.
Have been looking for something to fill the “Twilight” void for a few years now. And just this week I read a book that really made me fall in love with it just like Twilight did, so I thought I’d share the find: The Claiming Words by Tricia Drammeh. I stumbled on it by accident and its so incredibly sweet.. 🙂
Thank you so much for that recommendation tockica!
I grobler has a book: love and Magic. Think it’ll be on amazon too…
freaking brilliant. must read!!!!!!
So have you read the *Night world* series By L.J Smith who wrote Vampire diaries? If not, then they are also amazing. There’s 3 books, which have 3 stories in each, and I have read them after reading the Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse ones (which I also love) I am definaitly going to read some of these suggestions Thankks 🙂 x
I have to say, the Star-Crossed series by Rachel Higginson was the BEST series to read after Twilight, and seriously after I was done with the 4th book I never looked back at Twilight again. It blew it out of the water for me. No, it is not about vampires, BUT…the story is just so much more superior than Twilight you just HAVE to read each and every book! It goes 1st – Reckless Magic, 2nd – Hopeless Magic, 3rd – Fearless Magic, 4th – Endless Magic. And there will be three more books to follow, the 5th one just being released and is called The Reluctant King, then 6th – The Relentless Warrior, then 7th – The Redeemable Prince.
SERIOUSLY! Read these books! They are literally the best I have ever read, I just love them to death – and if it couldn’t get any better, the first book (Reckless Magic) is FREE! Go download it!
Also, Sweet Oblivion by Bailey Ardisone. Must. Read. NOW! It is awesome, I totally fell in love with it and can’t wait for the 2nd and 3rd books to come out.
Hello, if you are a fan of True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, A touch of Crimson series ETC, then you must read Afterlife by Stephanie Hudson, its amazing and will have you hooked from the start. Dont want to spoil but hope you trust my judgment! ENJOY. jusx
So long your site!
I heard that Myers (author of twilight series), had started a book on “Edwards point of view”, and that it was leaked, so she never finished it but did release a PDF of what was started,…….. Do you know how to find that PDF?
Rebecca, Stephanie Meyer actually just went ahead and put the PDF on her own website after it was leaked. You might check stephaniemeyer.com.
I’ve been looking for more “Twilight-like” books and came across “The Vampire Code” by E.C. Adams – I read it in a day and a night it was so good!
Read a review on Goodreads.com today in which the person said she “got the Twilight vibes” and I agree. But the story is totally different. And the writing is better.
I loved the main character – a flawed young lawyer whose thrown into the deep end when she is hired to defend a vampire accused of murdering a human. Reminded me a little of Ally Mc. Beal. (I’m over 30, and this was on TV up until about 5 yrs ago I believe).
Thought I’d share…
I am reading the 12th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. LOVE THE SERIES, All of the Books are great, Z and V being probably my favourites. But a series I also love is the Bitten Series by Kelly Armstrong. I love the characters as Kelly makes you feel you know them as well as a best friend. Both Series I would highly recommend to any adult.
I have just stumbled across this “what to read after Twilight”post again, and thought I would add my recommendations. Twilight will forever hold a very special place in my heart (Edward Cullen is still my favorite vampire ever!), but my other favorite vampire series include: J.R. Ward’s BDB series (obviously!!), D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America series (this series is SERIOUSLY GOOD, like BDB in many regards, and not mentioned often enough in my opinion!), Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series (also fantastic!) and Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. Sherrilyn Kenyon is good as well but I must admit I struggle to keep up with all the characters, and after the first few books the series lost some of it’s “zing”. Caroline Hanson’s Love is.. series started off with a lot of promise but sadly I felt the story fizzled out a bit from the middle of book 2.. Some of the other vampire series out there are just a bit too young adult for me.. I must admit, I love my vampires to be sexy, brooding and most of all, STEAMY!!
Wow! Your blog is truly amazing. Was at the university for the last few years and did not get much time to indulge in light reading. Now I am back to reading with a vengeance. I have just finished the twilight saga and was sort of stuck . Couldn’t shake myself out of the twilight zone and was worrying about how to move on when i came across your blog. It has been an eye opener for me. Can’t believe there are so many books to be read. I have started the “The Mortal Instruments” series. Thank You so much. What would you recommend after the Mortal Instruments Series? Good Wishes from India 🙂
Love the epic Mystic Series by B C Burgess – book 4 has just been released!
Full of magic and intrigue – start with book 1 – Descension.
You might like the Leandros Brothers series by Rob Thurman. Your heart breaks for Cal and you have to love Nik. A little of everything; vampires, demons, fallen angels. More violence than romance but compelling, well-written series.
I really enjoyed Twilight. When a friend found out, she recommended The Tigers Curse books by Coleen Houck. What an amazing series! It also has a love triangle that definitely gives the Bella Edward/Jacob a run for the money! My library has classed this as young adult fiction but I would place it in fantasy, romance. A must read if you liked Twilight!
I would also add Tigers Destiny (book 4) to the books that make you cry. (make that ‘books that make you sob!)
https://www.tigerscursebook.com/book
I enjoyed the list and recommendations and some of which I have already read thanks but I was surprised that Maggie Shayne’s books are not listed. Years ago stating out in the then new harlequin intrigue series Maggie Shayne began a series Wings In the Night, Some of the newer novels are better for the whole adventure thing, but it is great to have read them from the start as the some of the original characters will show up in the books. What I like best is that most books can be read as a one book read, yes there may be a reference to previous characters but if you don’t want to read all 18 books in the series I would recommend that you do read from the point of of Edge of Twilight since that story arc is connected to the latest books including the 19th due out soon I Hope.
I goofed, ok well I recommend reading all the Maggie Shayne Wings in the Night series since some are from anthology, and some are from harlequin the early ones, they are shorter so faster reads. I have to correct myself, the start of the new Wings in the Night Reborn series coming out is one to start if not going from the first book Twilight Phantasies, then go for the trilogy of Demon’s Bite. Maggie Shayne’s books are the first vampire books I read and the reason I read others. And thankfully later found the JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood, the Angela Knight Mageverse, now the Maggie Shayne and Angela Knight might have more in common with JR Ward, than Stephanie Myers, but they are great reads.
I was looking do you have a specific listing for shapeshifter? or demon, or is it the vampires who have their own listing besides paranormal?
I just finished the Tigers Curse series and Ren has now replaced my Edward fantasy crush. I never thought it could be possible. I was very irritated with many of the writers styles and choices but in the end LOVED the books. Book 4 made me cry a few times and had a lot of adventure. Also, I was team Edward all the way in Twilight but I could’ve found peace with either Team Ren or Team zKishan in this series. I had a preference for Ren but wasn’t as adverse to the possibility of Kishan as I would’ve been with Jacob. If you can power through the writing issues in book one and let yourself get pulled into book two on, you will finish book four feeling glad you kept reading.
I am looking for really good romance novels with a little less raunch. I have read so many raunchy books and I feel the romance , the love is what I am now searching for. Would love suggestions please. Thanks
PA Lassiter finished midnight sun and wrote the whole twilight series through the eyes of Edward. That was my first reading fan fic and I thought she did a good job.
Another book I liked after twilight is beautiful demons by Sarra Cannon, it was pretty good
I actually came to your site for J.D. Robb, thank you very much for the list, I am a big fan
Crossed Stars written by Christy Blow is amazing. It is like Twilight but with angels. The handsome Cassiel will left me looking to the stars for my own guardian angel.
These books r not about vampires or other supernatural creatures, but it is a crazy good love story!! And a series (3 books, which I read in less than 3 days!)….check out Delirium by Lauren Oliver (then Pandemonium, then Requiem). It takes place in a future world where they believed love is an actual disease! I don’t want to give away too much, but trust me….soooooooooo good!! Plus, it has 4 short stories about some of the other main characters (titled Annabel, Hana, Raven, & Alex).
I would recommend the Elemental Mysteries by Elizabeth Hunter. They are vampire romantic. The main characters are amazing and the love stories are fantastic. Best Series Ever.
