Tuesday’s latest new release list has proven to be a GREAT one ’cause I’m getting awesome feedback on some of the books you guys one-clicked. Therefore, I’m highlighting a few of them again, right here. With these recommendations, I don’t know how I can possibly not jump right in!
In fact, late last night I started Black Lies and it absolutely grabbed me right from the start. Yikes!!! This girl sounds like a load of trouble and I. Am. IN! Amazing writing and while I’m still only in the first quarter, I know I’m about to be taken on a wild ride. Eeeeeep! I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about. I posted a bunch of that “fuss” below in the list. You’ll see. 😉 *rubs hands together with devious glee*
Plus, there are a bunch of AWESOME book-sales right now, and more reader recommendations that look promising (and some hot-guy recluses, to boot!). YAY US! Hehe.
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).
P.P.S. Don’t have a Kindle? No problem! Amazon offers various free Kindle apps and a free Kindle Cloud reader for any and ALL of us to use. You can either use the free Kindle App for your smartphone, tablet, AND your desktop computer (just like you’re using a Kindle, but right through your web browser <— No need to download anything! )
NOTE: bargain priced when I added them, but prices can change on Amazon, so make sure to check before you finalize your order.
Todays latest reader recommendations and bargain ebook finds:
- Beauty and the Mustache: A Philosophical Romance (Knitting in the City Book 4) by Penny Reid <— JUST RELEASED!! RECLUSE ALERT!!!! YAYAYYAYY!!!! (and here’s the series reading order). Getting RAVE reviews (just like her other books in this popular, funny series!) Kat says: “I read this the night it came out and I’m still trying to recover. I have a the worst book hangover and I’m super low on sleep. FAVORITE BOOK OF THE YEAR!!!! Recluse who looks like a Viking and writes poetry? YES PLEASE I’ve decided to give up and just to re-read it.“
- Empathy by Ker Dukey <— JUST RELEASED!! PLUS it sounds like quite the DARK read!! This blurb totally made me *eeeeeep!!* I’m scared… and intrigued! Lori says: “Yes it’s really good so far!'” and Tracie, too: “Loving so far!!” and Kelly: “Stayed up waaay to late reading this last night and finished at lunch. Liked it a lot. The end was a bit rushed for me. Could have had it drawn out a bit more but overall it was definitely a good read.”
- Being Neighborly: a novella by Carey Heywood <— JUST RELEASED!!
- Ordinary (Exceptional Book 3) by Jess Petosa <— JUST RELEASED!! I haven’t read the blurb yet, ’cause it’s the conclusion of the series…
- Unhinged: Book One by Nicole Edwards <— JUST RELEASED!!! “She’s supposed to be off limits to me. But that’s not a problem because I’ve perfected the art of breaking the rules. My name is Sebastian Trovato and this is the story of how I met the woman who unhinges me.“
- Jesus Freaks: Sins of the Father by Andrea Randall <— JUST RELEASED!!
- Be My December by Rachel Brookes <— JUST RELEASED!! One of my fav authors (Aly Martinez) is reading this one and appears to be loving it! And it’s got quite the intriguing blurb… “The night my innocence was stolen, the night I made the mistake of saying no—a mistake I’d never make again. The dream of a ‘happily ever after’ was now a locked away myth. I promised myself that I’d never return to the place of my worst nightmare, that I’d never let anyone get close, but then again, I never thought I’d meet someone like him. The intense, confident and beautiful Ky Crawford.” <— but he doesn’t want to be her Prince Charming…
- LOL Romantic Comedy Anthology – Volume 1 – Thirteen All-New Romance Stories by Bestselling Authors by Elle Casey, Julia Kent, Blair Babylon, Rachel Schurig, N.M. Silber, Daisy Prescott, Juliet Spenser, Gretchen Galway, Victoria Wessex, Caitie Quinn, Cassia Leo, Mimi Strong, Kelly Harper <— Jennifer found us this recently released anthology! 😀
- Hard Knox: The Outsider Chronicles by Nicole Williams <— This one came out this month, too and Kimmie LOVED it! “Just finished Hard Knox by Nicole Williams. So good. You’ve got to read. New book boyfriend alert!!!!! Know and the girl Charlie has a slick mouth and is so sarcastic.” Ahhh yes!! College writer trying to uncover if campus “bad boy” is actually campus “bad guy” and then wonders if he isn’t. And then wonders if he is… 😉
- One Ride: Hellions Motorcycle Club (The Hellions Ride Book 1) by Chelsea Camaron <— BIKER BOOK ALERT!.
- Impulsively (Dante’s Nine MC) by Colleen Masters <— BIKER BOOK ALERT (and Stephanie found it for us today!). It’s a standalone! “The damaged bad boy, womanizer, and the newest member of the Dante’s Nine MC has set his sights on her and now it’s game over. She knows what’s at stake getting involved with an outlaw like Brooks, but giving up control and letting him take what he wants, even for just a moment, is worth losing everything.“
- Aspen by Rebekah Crane <— sounds cute and recommended by a few of our fav authors! “Katelyn may have died — but she didn’t leave. Her ghost is following Aspen around, and heading into senior year, it’s kind of a problem. Especially when Katelyn’s former boyfriend Ben appears to be the only person at school with a clue as to how Aspen feels.”
- Black Lies by Alessandra Torre <— This one is from Tuesday’s list and it is getting RAVE reviews. Considering how much I enjoyed other books by this author, I have no doubts this one is for me! In fact, I’m reading it right now. And Melannie is freaking out over it! “I think I saw somewhere that you were going to read Black Lies?? …… This is SO scandalous! At 42% and my face hasn’t changed it’s expression I love how different this story is! I’m also dying to know what Grant is hiding.” and Cheryl says: “Started Black Lies. Halfway thru and still don’t know exactly what is going on, but whatever it is, things are f*%@ed up!!!!” and Rebecka says: “Do yourselves a favor and DO NOT READ SPOILERS when reading Black Lies. You will go through many emotions and few gut wrenching moments, but trust me it will all be worth it!!” and Rosemarie says: “Two words. Black Lies! Okay three…whoa!” <— WOW. I’m so excited this is my next!
- Ten Below Zero by Whitney Barbetti <— MOVING STORY ALERT!! Here’s another one from Tuesday’s list that seems to be putting our fellow readers in a frenzy! Michelle says: “Just finished Ten Below Zero and what an amazing unique story! Such a great read if anyone is on the fence. I definitely cried but both sad and happy tears. Highly recommend this one!” Linh says: “35% into Ten Below Zero and I have to say I am digging it ALOT. Unconventional situation. Interesting characters. Great writing. It kinda reminds me of The Edge of Never and we all love that journey.” and then once she finished… “Ahhhhhh. I just finished Ten Below Zero and it was sooooooo fantastic. You have to read it Maryse. Characters, pace, storyline, writing…it was all great.“
- Be My Hero (Forbidden Men Book 3) by Linda Kage <— another one from Tueday’s list that we are enjoying! I read it (my review) and so did a few of my fellow readers! Kristi says: “Finished this today and loved loved loved it!”
- On the Record (The Record Series Book 2) by K.A. Linde <— From Tuesday’s list and Tessa loved it! “Finished On the Record and I absolutely loved it! My only grrr is I have to wait until Nov for book 3. I want it now!”
- I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre <— OH YES!!! Grumpy-hot single father/neighbor alert!! Another from Tuesday’s list that appears to be a HIT! This was also put on my TBR when I first read that blurb, and with a recommendation like this, I’m on it!!! Tracie says: “Maryse I just read I Want it That Way by Ann Aguirre, it was on your Tuesday list, single, broody father? It. Was. Awesome. It was exactly what I wanted and I just fell in love with everyone! Their honesty was so refreshing, and their intimacy was just beautiful, the sweet words.. I want more. I never wanted it to end… I don’t know what it was, but this book just grabbed me, everything Ty said had me melting. I already pre ordered the next two books.” OMG I WANT IT!!!
- Degradation by Stylo Fantôme <— a recent release and highly recommended by Kelly: “Just finished Degradation by Stylo Fantome and it was fabulous. There are some risque sexual elements however they were not overly graphic so most people could get over it and enjoy the characters. Really, really liked it and can’t wait until the sequel in Sept! … I think you might like this one. I felt like the author really fleshed out the characters and that intensified the story for me”
- The Minaldi Legacy by Courtney Cole <— RECLUSE! Stephanie found us this one! Ah interesting blurb (although one commenter warns about some very dark subject matter). “I’m a monster, Eva. There’s no saving a monster. But I love that you want to try.” Okay from the blurb I’m getting that she’s hired by him to help his aging mother… “Eva Talbot moves to Malta to finish her doctoral dissertation in Psychiatry. When she meets Luca, there is a very real and instant attraction that she has never felt before. But even still, she senses the darkness that lives within him.”
- Apartment 2B by K. Webster <— Stephanie found us this deal today, too! She escapes her mother’s abuse and is finally free but terrified. “Sidney has rules. Routines. Structure. It’s the only way she can cope. When a handsome, yet mysterious stranger inserts himself into her life, Sidney begins to come apart at the seams. She’s having trouble sticking to her habits and it’s threatening to shred any hope of a normal life to pieces.”
- Take a Chance: A Rosemary Beach Novel (The Rosemary Beach Series Book 6) by Abbi Glines <—
- Knight (The Unfinished Hero Series) by Kristen Ashley <— Linda says: “KA just never disappoints!!! Love this series. Love every h/h!!! Every storyline!!! Creed was very stressful for me I must admit but I powered through!!! Cannot wait for Deacon. Let’s just tell it like it is. KA writes it and we read it!! No brainer.” and Michelle agrees! “I really liked her Unfinished Heroes series. They are a bit darker than her usual fare, grittier. Knight was my favorite of that series to date. The alphas are “you love to hate them” kind of guys – and they don’t get sweet (like Tate and Tack) – they stay that way – but you still end up liking them!“
- Creed (Unfinished Heroes) by Kristen Ashley <—
- Raid (Unfinished Heroes) by Kristen Ashley <—
- Merciless Love: A Dark Romance by Nicole Snow <— RECENTLY RELEASED/DARK READ ALERT and well, obviously the cover got me good, on this one! ;). “The girl with the rocking body I saved yesterday believes I’m some kinda hero. You’d think she’d recognize evil after staring it in the face all her life, but with me, Cassie’s completely blind. She doesn’t know this house is a prison. She doesn’t know the cartel’s got my son. She doesn’t know I’m a selfish, desperate, pissed off imposter, and I’ll do anything to get my boy home.“
- Unlit Star by Lindy Zart <— ANOTHER RECENT RELEASE! I know I enjoyed another book by this author (my review of Take Care, Sara <— very angsty), so I’m nervous as I check out this new blurb. Yep. OH GOSH. Yes. This book wants to drown me in my own tears, I’m sure of it!!! That blurb. GAH!!!!! “Rivers Young is the popular guy untouchable by reality. He is like a star—bright, consuming, otherworldly. The thing about stars, though, is that they eventually fall, and he is no different. He falls far and he falls hard. Delilah Bana is the outcast enshrouded in all of life’s ironies. Alone, in the dark, like dusk as it falls on the world. When Rivers hits the ground, she is the night that catches him. In the darkness, they meld into something beautiful that shines like the sun. Only, the greater the star is, the shorter its lifespan.“
- The Genius and the Muse by Elizabeth Hunter <— RECLUSE ALERT!!! Here’s another on and it too, sounds good! “For Kate Mitchell, finishing her master’s thesis on reclusive photographer Reed O’Connor was just another item to check off her list. She knew exactly what she was doing. Or did she?“
- Master of the Game by Sidney Sheldon <— Okay not really bargain priced, but it’s one from “Ten Books That Stayed With Me” reader lists. Julie considers it: “If were talking those books that stay with you forever and ever….”
- Nothing Left to Lose (Guarded Hearts Book 1) by Kirsty Moseley <— and here’s one from Marion’s “Ten Books That Stayed With Me” list. And it IS bargain priced! Oh it sounds scary and romantically angsty! She survives a kidnapping but comes out of it, damaged. (of course!) “Ashton Taylor is brought in to protect her. He’s a newly qualified SWAT agent, a bright spark, the agency’s new golden boy. He is assigned undercover, posing as her boyfriend. His job is to help her through college and keep her safe until the end of the trial in eight months’ time…” <— Wow. This one DOES look good!
- She’s Come Undone (Oprah’s Book Club) by Wally Lamb <— One from Jill’s “Ten Books That Stayed With Me” list. Not bargain priced, but good price nonetheless… “Meet Dolores Price. She’s thirteen, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood good-bye. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she’s determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly-up.“
- The Witness by Nora Roberts <—- Eeeeep! This one sounds intense! One from Melinda’s “Ten Books That Stayed With Me” list, and wow. I DO love this author so I’m so tempted on backtracking to this book. “Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive…“
- Gerald’s Game (Signet) by Stephen King <— And Kristi is a girl after my own heart! This one sounds right up my freaked-out alley, and she says it’s “one of his best”. Just look at this blurb!!! “A different kind of bedtime story from Stephen King, as a game of seduction between a husband and wife ends in death. But the nightmare has only just begun…” <—- eeeeeeep!!!
- As You Desire: A Loveswept Historical Classic Romance by Connie Brockway <— One from Natalie’s “Ten Books That Stayed With Me” list, and it IS bargain priced. I know there are a bunch on here that love historical romance (I’ve loved quite a few myself!) so I think this one fits just perfectly… especially after you read this part of the blurb: “Kidnapped, drugged, and about to be sold to the highest bidder, Desdemona Carlisle is having a hell of a time maintaining her English pride. Then she sees the man in black, galloping through the Egyptian desert on a pure white steed. Desdemona could not have conjured a more dashing savior in her wildest fantasies. But an unlikelier hero would be impossible to find: Harry Braxton is a rogue, a scoundrel, and a born opportunist—who has already broken Desdemona’s heart once before…”

Nothing Left to Lose is in my top 5 of all time favorite books. I discovered it on Goodreads last yr….everyone seemed to be talking about it & it was at the top of dozens of lists so I tried it & just LOVED it.
YAY!!! Okay great. I’m thinking after Black Lies I’ll move onto that one this weekend. So happy!!
I’m pretty sure this is the regular price for it but I’m putting it out there anyway because no one is taking the bait when I mention it, and I am really curious if anyone else will read it and be as affected as me or if they will wonder what has me so worked up over it and why I keep mentioning it.
Room 212 – .99 cents.
Yeah, so there’s that. Someone read it. Because I said to. I’ll even throw in a manatee martini. No joke: https://www.celtnet.org.uk/recipes/miscellaneous/mobile.php?rid=misc-manatee-melon-martini
Black Lies tonight right after I finish On Every Street. Have I mentioned how much I love Karina Halle’s books??
LOL!!! Amy, okay I’m adding it up there tonight when I get home. I saw that Apartment 2b book and wondered if *that* was the one you kept referring to. I think these #’s room books are confusing me.
*snatches martini right out of Amy’s hand*
Early start today. YAY US! Or… me. *snort* 😛
Bayou Stix 4, Alluring Infatuation by Skye Turner came out today. I’m looking forward to reading it, and Beaty and the Mustache.
Yes yes room 212
What type of read is it Amy?
I’m 70% into Beauty and the Mustache and… I don’t even know what to say. I saw you mentioned it so I had to tell you that it is so so so romantic. It’s got to be the most romantic book I’ve read in forever. It’s giving me all the feels like I can’t catch my breath. I had to force myself to put it down because I don’t want it to end but I can’t stop thinking about it!! Ah!!! I don’t want to jinx it but I think this is going to be my favorite book of the year!
Maryse- are you still reading Black Lies? I just finished chapter 41 and I’m confused. I even read it twice. Feel like it was thrown in there out of order or I’m really missing it! Help!
I thinking I’m missing out not reading Penny Reid!! I wanna read this new one tonight, looks like they’re stand alones
Hi Lori saw your comment about Bayou Stix series. I was curious because I had not heard of it before. Researched and saw they’re all 5 star reads!!! Have you read and enjoyed all of them? It’s a nice long weekend and I’m trying to decide what to sink my teeth into;))) I was thinking Consequence series but not sure I’m in the mood for heavy. Maybe Beauty and the Moustache after Karen’s comment. Knitting series is great too!!! As usual I’ve been in a 1click frenzy!!!
Maryse- all I can say is O.M.G. That chapter makes sense now!
I have read the series Linda, and enjoyed them. The first one was a little rough, I believe it was the authors debute, but I liked it. They’ve gotten better as the series has progressed. I’m really looking forward to the new one. They’re definitely not heavy, I’m not a huge fan of major angsty stories. The Consequence series just scares me lol I’m pretty sure I own it, as a oneclick junky, but I doubt I’ll ever get around to actually reading it.
Poor Amy…no one is listening to you! I promise it’s on my list! I still have to read OES… got sidetracked by Reed Brothers! So many on this list that I want too!
Black lies…….WOW! Hurry and finish. Cant wait for your review.
I’m almost home… Will continue Black Lies as soon as I get in.
*looks at empty martini glass*
MARYSE!!!!!!!!!!!
*sighing and making another martini (or four)*
You are *not* gonna be the only one starting early today! 😛
*snort*
My bad!!!
Yay Donna! Another Room 212 lover! 😀
Let’s see, Bev…Room 212 is a romance with a good ol’ healthy dose of emotion and angst thrown in. The prologue alone let me know it was going to be rough. Seth has some *major* mood swings and Laura is on the wild side and they fight (oh lord, do they fight *shaking head*) but I loved them and just wanted things to work for them so badly.
What made this resonate with me so much was how the H and h were flawed but not overly so, and the h’s reaction and actions right after the big “event” were so *real* and believable. Her thoughts on karma having it out for her are funny…until they’re not. *sigh* It was just one of “those” reads for me. 😉
I was sp excited to see Loving Mr. Daniels on the bargain lay because it had bee on omy TBR list. Then I discovered it was free on Kindle Unlimited. Yeah me! Just finished it and what a beautiful story.
Okay I’m home my friends!!! Time to read “Black Lies”.
So, who’s reading what, tonight?
*giggle* Maryse, you *know* I have more martinis where that one came from! OMG, I love Midori…I could drink that green yumminess all by itself over some ice. Mmmmm, melon…
Jean, are ya surprised by how leery others are about my recommendation after I started the TTM read-along?? 😉
I am reading “Black Lies” and OMG what a crazy and confusing ride where nothing is making any sense yet, but I am on it.
Brat!! Yesssssss! But I know I’ll love it.
Thank you Amy for letting us know about “Apartment 212” was on my TBR and was waiting for it be on sale price.
“Fates Mistake” by Brandace Morrow is also on sale. I loved that book.
Oh sorry I meant “Room 212”.
Has anyone read “Apartment 2B”?
See the confusion !!!
Midori, tequila, Grand Marnier, sweet-n-sour mix, lime juice… *slides martini to Maryse* Bottoms up, lady!! 😀
Finishing up supper and then starting Black Lies. Mmmmm, carne asada with corn tortillas and pico de gallo…what did you say about your chicken ‘n’ dumplings, Maryse? Oh, that’s right: https://giphy.com/gifs/JApxkdelkzBIY
Shell, can’t wait to hear what you think of 212!
I finished library book and maybe re read a couple sections of WIR. But now I’m thinking maybe video store see what’s in.
P.S. Cheryl you have me sooooo excited!
Yes the apartment and room books were confusing me too! I was sure that one was Amy’s. Glad she cleared that up!
Diane and Linda- I just finished Beauty and the Mustache. It’s going to take me a while to recover from it. I have THE WORST book hangover, I can’t stop thinking about Drew. Ah! I’m shaking!!
You guys are making me excited for that one (mustache!!) too!! I’m going to have the best reading weekend!
Beauty and the Moustache called to me for this evening!!! Only about quarter in and loving it!! Funny part where she does purple nurple on stranger and then petting it in apology while gazing at Mr. sexy pants speechless!! Too cute!!
OMG…Mustache…you guys are really testing my self-control here…*snort*
😐
Mustache r… *slapping hands over mouth*
😐
*snort* Midori martinis and mustache r… *gulps martini*
Good lord, it’s not even 7:00 yet. *gifgle*
You guys had me almost peeing my pants with TTM last friday still laughing about. Room 212 was a gem to me and for 99 cents it was a great find. You know like how Night Owl was a great find that was 99 cents too. Started A Beautiful Mess put it down I dont know ,anyboby read that one? So now I am reading Knight ,KA couldnt pass that up. I could be the 99 cents girl. And Marsye I look forward reading your site. Oh n I might have agirl crush on Amy hehe
Finished Beauty and the Mustache last night. Honestly, Drew is the sweetest. It’s so romantic. I cried sad tears, happy tears, sweet tears..all the tears. It’s different from her other books in that it’s not as funny. It’s so romantic. Drew has this quiet, sweet, hot, manly thing going on. You can read it alone, but I enjoyed seeing all the characters from previous books.
Amy what happened to OES? Although I didn’t get to it either…. I am really wanting to read Black Lies or Beauty and the Mustache RIGHT NOW especially with everyone’s comments!!!!
Keep pushing for Room 212…..I just downloaded it! How could I ignore your constant pleas (and badgering)?!?
Arrow for me tonight.
Jean let us know if Room 212 is a traumatic read or not.
Beauty & the mustache sounds fun, love the cover.
BADGERING?!?!?!? Oh no you did not… And not everything I read is traumatic Bev!! 😛 Forget the monkeys…y’all are sucking ape balls tonight. Except Donna…she’s making me blush. *hee hee* Girl crush…blush…we rhyme…
Note to self: Omit tequila from next Midori martini…it’s amaking me fiesty. *giggle*
Jean, let’s shoot for Sunday for OES, okay? Yeah? YAY! All the excitement over Black Lies hooked me and I’m starting that in a few minutes. After turning off the email alerts on my iPad. ‘Cause all you motley crew are distracting me. 😛
I just finished the Lovely Vicious series. Very sweet, but now I need something new. Black Lies looks appealing but scares me. Maybe my TBR has something for tonight?
Ohhhhh Black Lies…. Kind of ominous…
Amy!!,! Bahahahhahahahahh! I know, right? The word “Mustache” makes me giggle. 😛
Hahaha u “gifgled”!
I can’t jump on the bandwagon. My wagon is overflowing into the ditch at this point. Too much to read too little time. So I’m limiting myself to a pre-order or Son of No One cause that series is like a classic to me at this point. And so downloaded a sample of Room 212 – Amy 🙂
I want to read it, I really do. Wish I could just inhale all these great stories or absorb them by osmosis, cause I dont want to miss a single one. But at this point I’m reading two at the same time, I have 2 TBR lists with purchased, downloaded and ready to read books, plus 3 wish lists that go on for miles. I swear I never had this problem before Maryse’s blog. But now I can only vaguely remember the frustration of looking for my next read BMB.
What is OES?! I’m terrible at acronyms.
Fabi! It’s official. You’re a book addict, and need a Book Dom. 😉
Oh yeah, meant to high five Tracy. Loving Mr. Daniels is one of my favorites.
Oh no Maryse. Nope no and nuh uh…I’m not messengering anything from you to my book Dom again. *eeek running from Maryse with hands over ears*
Is it pathetic that I’m excited about a 3 day weekend because I get more time to read?
Gah!!, what’s the secret!? Nope. Never mind, don’t tell me. This is tooooo much fun!
Fab heck no. I’m right there with u on that 3 day reading binge!
*snicker-snort* So glad I’m not the only one who gets all giggly over the word mustache! And ever since I came across that Star Wars gif it’s even worse!
OES is On Every Street. Jean and I are behind on our Karina Halle reading and trying to catch up but y’all squirreled us with Black Lies. See, Fabi? We’re right there with ya! 😉
*sneakily pulling Maryse off to call in a Book Dom for Fabi*
:). I’m mostly scared I won’t like the characters. I’m still looking for that book to read though. I’ve no idea what mood I’m in.
Black Falcon series by Michelle Valentine is currently on sale for .99/each. The novellas are free. I think regular price has been $2.99
I can’t wait for u to finish Black Lies so we can talk about it!!!!!
Amy Sunday sounds good for OES…. how are you liking Black Lies…trying not to squirrel around!
So Terri is “terrified in OK”….just wondering where everyone else is from… I am in Pennsylvania!
Happy reading to everyone this weekend!!!
Jean – I’m from Texas, and I am reading Written In Red tonight (I’m at 54% now). [why does that sound like the introduction of a support group?]
Quick note on this list – don’t strangle me anyone – I didn’t get into Nora Robert’s The Witness. It was listed as her best work ever, and it was just okay for me. Saw it on here as a must read potentially – and it didn’t rock my world.
Now I am behind AGAIN. Do I need to add the mustache and black lies one my list???
Merciless Loves sounds intense… and it’s only .99? No self control…. gotta have it….
The Genius and the Muse – how did I miss this? I love Elizabeth Hunter. Her Irin Chronicles and Elemental Mysteries are among my favorites. She’s a very talented writer. One more click…..
LOL MichelleS that does sound like a support group! I am in CT and I have always been a reader but since finding this blog I am right there with Fabi. My lists keeping getting longer and I now have to explain what “squirreling” means to my friends!
I started Out of Breath by Rebecca Donovan last night because I needed to finish the series and it was on Kindle Unlimited but I am going to start the Dark Hunter series too.
The U S Tennis Open is on this weekend too so I predicate a very lazy weekend.
Jean my name Donna I am from CT. N I cant help myself click click click…
Hey Jean, I’m with MichelleS, in Texas. Well, not ‘with’ Michelle, hehe, you know what I mean. In the same general area; rather close in fact.
Michelle! I am sooo mad at you! WHY didn’t you say you were going to read WiR last night??? Why, oh why? I woulda, coulda, and shoulda read with ya. Not that I can keep up with your reading speed, but shoot…
I have like 3-4 at the number 1 spot of my TBR and that is one of them. It would have at least given me a way to pick the next one to read.
Donna, lol, click, click, click…It sounds like some of us are headed towards a new “Readers Anonymous” group help.
We are all alike! I love it! My friends think I am crazy especially since I have over 400 books in my TBR kindle collection! And I continue to 1-click! But they still come to me for book recommendations! Haha!
I started Room 212 this morning (cursing Amy already)….
Tracy, Out of Breathe was Amazing!!!
I am so jealous of the squirrels – you know, the ones with the teeth and the tails and all? – because, they get lots of free time to enjoy their squirreling efforts in the winter.
Fabi – I finally finished The Winter King and was still in the mood for fantasy. I shouldn’t have done it, because I can tell it’s going to be a series that I want to read and I can only commit to one book at a time right now!! I used to love to delve into a series and get lost in it. Now I want one book and then I will read the latest in a series. No more recommendations for series!!! argh!!! It really is very much like the Mercy Thompson series (in the feel of it, not the storyline). There are a few questions I have, so having someone else reading it would help…. Bev?…. for example: why do the Others live in the Courtyards? Wouldn’t it make more sense for the “monkeys’ (humans) to be the one behind the walls? Since The Others rule the world?
So I have no idea what I am going to do after I finish Written in Red. Continue the series? Go back and work on my TBR list (which has a bunch of unfinished series), or go with the latest fad? or visit Maryse’s 5-star gallery for a guaranteed hit? Serious ADD happening at my house.
Currently sitting unread on my Kindle. If someone also has these books on their TBR list, maybe we can “catch up” together?
Maybe Someday (bargain priced grab)
Forever, Interrupted (bargain priced catchup)
Spiral of Bliss #3 (I know, I know…. I’m working on it)
Beyond #4 (not in the mood for dystopian right now)
Late Call & Final Call (can’t remember why I bought these?)
Genius & Muse (just added)
And I have these that need to be finished….
Reed Brothers #2
Incandescent (Wrath MC #1)
Dark Skye (mostly done)
Bone Deep (mostly done)
Darkness #1
Ghost & Graveyard
Ashes to Ashes (half done)
28 1/2 Wishes
Beyond #3
MichelleS, this past week I flew through the Reed books and now I am all caught up! I loved them! I also grabbed Maybe Someday for that bargain price and I know everyone loved it, and i need to read it, but I have to keep my promise to Amy and continue with Room 212 or she might throw something at me….hopefully a martini!! Lol!
MichelleS, so you like WiR? So many others have raved about it. I can’t wait. Starting it tonight. (maybe). I’m just going to ‘maybe’ my entire reading life from now on.
Unfortunately, my TBR looks nothing like the one you posted. Other than to say I read Maybe Someday and loved it, I can’t help there. I guess WiR was “the one’ for a buddy read for me.
Maybe if Room 212 is short, I’ll sneak it in this afternoon or tonight. But, I really have to get to at least one of my number 1 spots asap or I’m going to freak.
oh, I liked the Mercy Thompson series. But it wasn’t one of those I read obsessively. I read other books between installments until the very last few in the series. So, maybe WiR will be the same. Although, the little you describe of it here has me chewing my nails in anticipation of reading it. I love crazy worlds like that.
Jean I’m in Pennsylvania too!
MichelleS yeyyy you are reading WiR! I take it you are enjoying so far? When I read it I unfortunately HAD TO go on to the next book but the good news is there are only 2 books right now so not a huge investment yet. I always thought the others lived in the courtyards in not a behind the wall imprisonment sense but in a behind the wall privacy sense. Most of the others live in the wild so those who chose to live in closer proximity to humans just want to still remain separate and keep their business their business – at least that’s how I read it.
I’m starting Nothing Left to Lose later since with recs above it caught my attention. Oh and I still am thinking about Ten Below Zero sigh – I liked it so much that I looked for other books by the same author and she has another one on countdown sale He Found Me that I grabbed if anyone is interested for only .99 that looked excellent too
Maybe I can describe Maybe Someday a little for you without giving anything away so you can figure it if you’re in the mood for it. It very far from fantasy reading.
It’s real life, but real in the way that many of us ever experience. With some serious life issues that the characters overcome brilliantly. You will be pulling for almost every single character in the book except maybe 1 or 2 and even one of those you fall for by the end of the book. I walked away with several book boyfriends from this one.
But it’s not over the top angsty; not so gut wrenching that your left writhing on the floor. It has just enough of everything to keep you focused and feeling without destroying you. It will also keep you guessing for a majority of the book and thinking to yourself that there is no way this can ever work out in a good way for everyone involved. I as so worried. 🙂 It stayed with me, but you know those are always personal preferences and the particular mood when we read a book that influences that the most.
Michelle, where are you in PA? I am in a small suburb outside of Philadelphia.
I REALLY want to read Ten Below Zero too!!!!
Love u guys but hard to get reading done when I keep looking at everyone’s comments here! Lol!
btw, I’m down to my last 50 pages of LMFY. I think something is going to explode at the end. Or something should explode at the end. Or maybe it’s just my imagination. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book this slowly (forced slowness – not willing slowness)
Jean, that happens to me too. Sometimes I think I spend more time on the blog than reading.
Jean I’m from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. Yeah I hate to derail people with more recs but it was soooo good and I love when I find an unknown author and it blows me away. Also I believe the price is going up soon so if you try to grab books on sale like me and hoard, you might want to grab it. I’m being slightly derailed myself with Maybe Someday so tell me it sucks Fabi so I continue with my reading plans here.
Thanks for that input on Maybe Someday Fabi! LMFY is on my top TBR list! You’re reading it slowly because you love it??
Michelle S in the prologue it says that those in the courtyard are there to keep an eye on the humans. Definitely agree with Michelle about the walls and privacy.
I also think in away the cities do keep the humans contained. There are more humans but less land for them.
Fabi wanted to be your adventure buddy. Poor Fabi I don’t know that your tbr should be causing you such anxiety, lol.
I’m squirreling Nothing Left to Lose. It sounds so good and the recommendations are over the top…But I have others I have to read first.
Jean, unfortunately, I’ve read LMFY slowly only because I haven’t had any reading time available. Only snippets of time here and there. I think it’s for this reason that I’m not as crazy about it as MichelleS was. She was able to read it straight through and I think it’s a story that lends itself well to that. Reading in fits and starts like I have, I think took a little away from it.
Someone on the blog compared it to the Time Traveler’s Wife. At least, the comparison was made wrt the blurb for this one. I am not finished yet, but as of right now, although the similarity is there, LMFY does not have the impact TTW has.
As much as I read, there are comparitively few books that I remember the story forever. Some I remember because I loved them and some I remember because I hated them. (I hate ALL books without a perfect HE A, regardless of the author’s talent or the amazing storyline). For me, TTW was an amazing book that I hate to this day (like Rainfall). Depending on the ending, I don’t think LMFY will have that kind of impact on me regardless of whether it ends happy or sad.
Sorry MichelleS, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings in any way. You know I’ve loved every one of your recommendations. I’m putting this one on me and my reading circumstances.
Michelle I don’t think I could read that one.
hahaha bev – anxiety only because Maryse and the rest of you give so many great recommendations!
As payback, I may do like MichelleS and list all my number 1s here so y’all can make the tough decision of what’s next. Maybe a poll to help poor fabi out? LOL
I have NO IDEA how Maryse does this – choose from an interminable list of greats for her next read/review.
Ummm, Michelle, I’m going to put myself in MichelleS’s shoes here and tell you that Maybe Someday was unputdownable for me. Read it read it read it and I hope you love it as much as I did.
I also loved Maybe Someday!
Fabi – I added Rainfall to my TBR list last night. It is on Kindle Unlimited. Now you have me nervous.
Blah you all are killing me…ok Nothing Left to Lose first then Maybe Someday with no more derailments…meaning I’m not looking at this blog until done haha. Luckily I’m a very fast reader or I would never put a dent in my tbr list either. Fabi I’m gonna play book pusher to you now 😉 – read WiR…read it read it read it now…
Tracy, ignore me. Read Maryse’s review and others’ reactions to it. My tastes don’t always match up to those of this community. Relatively speaking, I’m still new to this genre.
Michelle, that’s exactly what I needed. Since WiR is one of the ones sharing the #1 next spot on my miles long TBR list. I can now simply say, yes ma’am, and off I go on my next reading adventure with WiR.
Lol, Yay!! Michelle * claps*
*bows* “thank you, thank you very much”
Jean! You can curse me all you want but I luuuuuuuffffffs you!! 😀
Fabi, I loved Maybe Someday, and Room 212 was kind of like that for me in that it just has a simplicity to it without any crazy twists or traumatic pasts or dark secrets (even though I thrive on reading those!) and with the right amount of angst and emotion…enough to make me hurt and give me the feels but not so much that I was a wreck. Yep, that is my “gush” book…we all have ’em!
OMG Amy! Now just tell me it’s a short read and I can fit it in this afternoon before starting WiR tonight.
Gah!! Now what is LMFY?? Hahahah!
Okay I’m 80% into Black Lies. It’s pretty great! I guessed the secret which is cool but still have no idea how it’s going to end…
I guessed it too but it’s still good Maryse!
Okay, any of you considering reading Maybe Someday, just jump in! I would say it could be grouped (yes, I mentally group things…hush up) with her Slammed series whereas Ugly Love could be grouped with Hopeless because of the heavy/dark issues. Make sense? Yes? No? Whatever…you all are too perky this morning and I’m hung…er, tired. 😉
MichelleS, Forever Interrupted was soooo good…leave that one high on your TBR list. I might actually see the movie when it comes out! And I don’t usually watch movies made from books I’ve read. *Usually*.
You know, Fabi, to be honest I can’t remember if it was a *quick* read, but I read it pretty much straight through because I didn’t want to put it down. After the prologue I had to “know,” ya know?
LMFY is Losing Me, Finding You and seems to be getting good ratings around here. I’m going to make *another* pot of coffee and then jump back in with Black Lies…I seriously need my head a little clearer so I can get the full effect of this one!
“I’m hung…er, tired” *snicker*
Maryse, I have the same problem with acronyms. Sometimes I don’t even remember my own.
Maybe Someday is by Colleen Hoover and I have read every SINGLE thing she’s published. Amazing talent.
Fabi I have not read it but I’m sure it’s much much to long. Much.
I haven’t read The Slammed series yet because Hopeless just really did something to me and I felt brave even reading Maybe Someday and why I also haven’t tackled Ugly Love. So Amy since you have so thoughtfully grouped these books for me I feel that Slammed will be in my near future. I just love Colleen Hoover.
Haaa bev! I’m sorry Amy, I think I have go to WiR next. Else I fear for my life.
Tracy, finally, someone like me who can’t handle severe angst/heartbreak in a book. You’re safe with Slammed. It’s good and won’t destroy you. It’s actually similar to Living Mr Daniels if you’ve read that one.
The ones I wish someone had warned me of we’re Rainfall and Time Traveler’s Wife. The Tied Man was all my fault because there were certainly enough warnings about that one. But it’s a different type of angst. More of a cringing, running and hiding kind as opposed to a shredded gut can’t come back from that kind of feeling.
“Loving” Mr. Daniels
Overall I’m a HEA type. Definitely prefer it and hope for it in whatever I read. If I’m reading a Romance then it better be tied up with a very fluffy bow. If I go in knowing it is another genre, fantasy, mystery, lit fic, etc then I can handle a more ambiguous ending.
But on here that can get in trouble because I think I’m reading a romance but really doesn’t fit my idea of that. And warnings are definitely frowned on, lol.
Time Traveler’s Wife I think of as more literary fiction I guess. Oh, it is beautifully written and takes you on a journey.
I don’t like angsty, tear filled stories. Give me a romantic read with lots of sex and I’m a happy camper. There’d better be a HEA or I’d lose my shit.
We’ll put Lori. :-). I guess most people don’t want to know if there’s an HEA. I’d rather not read it if there’s not, so appreciate a warning.
Correct bev, I also classify TTW as lit fic, not romance
Whaattttt is happening!? Im only 2% in Nothing Left to Lose and freaking out already! I didnt expect such a fast start…ok calmed down a little, I’m going back in…
bev, did you read Rainfall? If so, would you classify it as romance? I’m not sure I would. Not strictly romance, more lit fic. I’ve read many other genres which had an excellent romantic theme but could not and were not classified as romance.
To me, contemporary romance has to be just like historical romance. All about a boy and a girl and a happily ever after. Only the times and places change.
Maybe getting a little too philosophical here, but even the sub-genres should follow the basic premise. For example
historical romance: Elizabethan Romance, Middle Ages, Highlands, War, Time Travel, etc. all are sub genres but need to be built on the basic premise of the genre.
Contemporary romance: dark, erotic, YA, NA, M/M, etc., all should follow the basic CR premise.
Otherwise, it should be classified under another genre where it fits or in the generic lit fic
Did y’all just see Michelle come up for a short scream of air and dive right back into her book? 🙂 aack, that’s gotta be a good one. So many have and are squealing over it.
Yes Fabi… and I am SUCH a follower that I might just download the book so I can get to the 2% and see what all that was about! Pathetic. Just pathetic. (It sounds really exciting though from the amazon blurb)…. argh…. not gonna do it…. sticking to WiR.
Now I’ve just added Nothing Left to Lose to my TBR. Oy!
Fabi – I finished Loving Mr Daniels last night and loved it. While I totally agree with Lori in give me a romantic read with lots of sex and I’m a happy camper. Too many of those in a row and then I just feel the need to get a ‘ole gut wrencher! Then I wonder what the hell I was thinking when I finished. Then I’ll switch to say a paranormal but while I am doing all of this I feel like I am missing out on all these other great reads that everyone else is talking about! I get a bad case of book envy.
Btw – I do need a little heads up if there isn’t a HEA. I need to mentally prepare my heart.
For me a Romance has to have a Hea, lol. It just does. Ok this is totally made up ending but if say Tack at the end of MM was ran over by a motorcycle and died I would not think of it as a romance. Full of romance but not of the genre, but that’s just me.
I am horrible for reading the ending first or reading spoilers. I try and stop myself bbecause it can take away from the impact.
Bev- you read the ending!? I’m speechless. I just couldn’t. I may be too much of a rule follower …. But a rebel in other ways 🙂
Oh I can’t read the ending or read ahead either. I can’t usually stop reading a book I’ve started either. And, like Maryse, I like to go into a book blind. Sometimes I don’t even read the blurb if it’s a recommendation. The only exception for me is the (lack of hea). It’s not a spoiler for me because I won’t read the book if it doesn’t have one. It never fails I hate the book I accidentally read that doesn’t have a hea.
Speaking of finishing, I finally finished LMFY. Whew, I feel like I’ve been reading this forever.
Still reading Crazy Good and will start WiR tonight at the latest.
As tempting as all of your comments are, those you’re talking about are going on my TBR or wish list. I’ll hate myself if I sidetrack at this point.
So, go on, squeee, and ooohhh, aaaahhh, all you want – I’ll just mark them “next”. 🙂
Did y’all know that WiR has almost 600 reviews on Amazon with an average rating of 5 stars? :-O. omg
I kind of “love it” (with a side of hate) when my heart is tore right out of my chest. In BOOKS though… ONLY IN BOOKS.
GAH!! The thought of heartache in real life? No thank you. I’m not that much of a mascochist.
P.S. Oh yah.. Fabi. I already asked what that acronym was in a previous post. LOL!!! So i’m bad at acronyms AND memory. 😉
Maryse, I know you love those shred my heart books. I’ve had too much of it in real life, don’t need extra for entertainment. Besides, you gotta be one strong cookie to let yourself fall apart like that with a book. Woman power! 🙂
Losing Me, Finding You (LMFY)
He! Me too with both. Thank goodness for the scrolling feature.
Or were you referring to WiR? Written in Red.
The tittle doesn’t sound PNR and the cover doesn’t look PNR. I haven’t read the blurb (eyes shut tight). But the ladies here assure me it is PNR. I’m determined my next read is PNR/Sci Fi or bust.
Actually, LMLY is sic if with a strong romantic element. or is it romance with a strong sic if element? Grrr to blurry genre lines.
It doesn’t help at all when I misspell the acronym. That was LMFY above
Ugh! Not sic it’s sci fi – going to figure how to turn off predictive typing in iPad right NOW
Bev half way though how to kill a rock star im ashamed to say I peeked at the ending because I couldnt take or bear not knowing the out come.
Just clicked black lies
I read reviews, spoilers and all, to make sure there’s an HEA, and no cheating, before cracking a book. (If it can still be considered cracking when it’s turning on my iPad) I don’t mind tears, I cry often when reading, but they’d better just be a small part if they are sad tears. I’m really sappy, and cry over happy stuff more.
I have LMFY in my TBR list, I might actually read that one.
I’m reading M. K. Eidem’s Wray now.
I totally understand Donna. Have not read that one but from what I hear I probably would have too.
Lori I used to do that too. =-O Now I really try not to do it all. And there have been some books I have refused to spoil.
Home and stuck on what to read. I hate it when everything and nothing sounds good at the same time.
well shoot bev, wish I had that problem, just read some of mine and transfer them to my brain via telepathy
What did you read last again?
I just finished A non fiction and also The Cuckoo’s Calling. Have another library book I should finish, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. It’s a YA
Or maybe some good NA fun with either Hard Knox. Or maybe Deeper by Robin York.
I could also finish onenof my unfinished ones, lol.
Black Lies, Bev. Black. Lies. I’m still working on it but it’s great so far. Oooooh, and Black Martinis!! Except for me…last night was enough for this weekend. 😉
https://www.absolutdrinks.com/en/drinks/black-martini/
I’m the opposite with spoilers. I read the blurbs for books but freak out if I accidentally come across a spoiler, and sometimes I go in *completely* blind. I love the tummy hurting, heart clenching and crying that comes with not knowing what is ahead in the story.
But like Maryse said, ONLY in books. Oh lord, the thought of facing all of that devastation in real life is terrifying. *snort* My moral compass is pretty set and solid in real life, but that compass gets thrown out the freaking window when it comes to reading!! 😛
I just read Maryse’s review and that book scares me.
*backs away slowly with hands up*
Lol bev! I’m glad I have WiR lined up and set in stone for tonight.
I’m excited to hear what you think of it Fabi. Michelle S also when she is done.
I love it when you pick up a book and within just a few pages you forget you’re reading and are just immersed in a world of the author’s creation. That’s what happened to me when I started reading WiR last night. And it’s a long one so I’ll get to stay in that world and enjoy it for a while.
Fabi, YAY! I’m so glad you are liking it so far. I get nervous sometimes with book recs. If you end up not liking it, it was all Michelle.
Ladies please read Nothing left to loose by Kirsty Moseley, Ashton’s the ultimate book boyfriend, totally bad ass ..think Keanu Reeves in Speed least thats how i pictured him hahaa
It’s on my TBR Marion
Fabi – that’s exactly how I felt when reading WiR and a huge part of why I LOVE it! Anne Bishop really is known for her world building and I can’t think of anyone who does it better.
Bev – *shakes fist* with that comment I would leave you in the snow bank, adventure buddy or not 😉
Marion – I’m reading Nothing Left to Lose right now and can enthusiastically recommended it without even being finished yet. I really adore it already but that first chapter (went in blind) gave me a freak out moment! Ashton seems so realistic to me and I’m really enamored with his vulnerability, of course that’s on top of the bad ass part.
brrrr Bev, better bundle up, you know they don’t let just anyone in from the snow to the Courtyard
Brr, it did get cold. May have to hang out at A Little Bite with some coffee.
I love it when they can be vulnerable too. But determined not to squirrel. I just saw a rec for Kele Moon’s new one and it looks so good. As does Rival, lol. Must stay focused.
I only like vulnerable when it’s paired with bada$$ – for both male and female characters
Bev and Michelle (and I guess Fabi now too?) – I finished Written In Red. Wow, it was a long book! Being a huge fan of urban fantasy, it was exactly the kind of book I like. The little hint of book two at the end made me want to read it right away (but it’s 10.99 for Kindle!!)… so I will wait a bit. What I loved most was her writing style. FINALLY someone shows me through interactions between characters and visual details. Not all that telling that happens in so many indie books I am reading. If you want me to know the pup cares about her, then have him sit in her lap and lick her chin! duh! It seems so obvious. Why do so many authors keep telling us everything instead of showing us? What a breath of fresh air that was. I loved the crazy cast of secondary characters. Can’t wait to see where this series goes. Again, highly recommend for fantasy fans – had that Patricia Briggs feel that I love. Thank you Bev for telling us about it.
Oooh Maryse…I hope you enjoy Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game. There are definitely more than a few scenes that are imprinted on my brain even after all these years.
bev, Michelle, and MichelleS, there is no way this is an indie author. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of her other works, but Anne Bishop is a highly skilled as well as talented storyteller. I’m 40.pages in to my first introduction to her work and I can tell you that by page 10 she was already in my greats category with Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, and yes MichelleS, Patricia Briggs. Dare I say this early on that she’s going to give Karen Marie Moning a run for her money?
MichelleS, her next one might be worth a trip to the library. I can’t believe I only paid $6 for this one. I’m not at all surprised her next one is much more expensive.
Whoot!! You guys liked it.
No she is definitely not an Indie author. She is published through Tor. And yes she may be in the library. She has three other series, her black jewels being very popular.
The price for Crows should go down when it is released in paperback, at least that is how it usually goes.
And again {Yay}.
Sorry not Tor but ROC is her publisher.
I can’t believe I forgot to include CHristine Feehan in my list of greats AND she has a new one coming out on 9/2, Dark Blood.
I guess I don’t have to stress over my next couple of reads. I have Son of No One and Dark Blood pre-ordered.
Yesss so happy you both are enjoying the book! Honestly, I really thought there was no way you wouldn’t since Bishop is that skilled of a storyteller. I mean I’ve read all the authors Fabi mentioned and MANY more in this genre and she is at the top for me. I second that her black jewels series is amazing too but I still love this one more. Her writing was such a breath of fresh air for me too, as you mentioned MichelleS, that it just stands out as one of my favorites if not my favorite paranormal/urban fantasy reads. It’s too bad the next book is not lendable or I would totally lend it to you MichelleS!
Well back to Nothing Left to Lose. I’m getting a little disappointed with the middle section of the book though after such a stellar start – it’s dragging out some – over 500 pages on kindle. Still not bad but many pages of things that could be summed up easier…we’ll see how it ends up though.
Thank you so much for sharing TEN BELOW ZERO! I am extremely happy to see people are loving it! xoxo
Fabi – now whoa there girly…. “she’s going to give Karen Marie Moning a run for her money?”… have not had anyone come close to the greatness that is Karen Marie Moning! But the writer is definitely talented and worth recommending!!
And Michelle and Bev – I can honestly say that you would just LOVE the Knights of the Black Swan series by Danaan if we all agree on WiR. Someday you just have to try it. Elora is an amazing heroine and Rammel Hawking….. OMG…. doesn’t get better than that. And the amazing secondary characters! After reading WiR I just know you’d like it!!!!
So what to read after that great one? I started Knights Rebels MC so I could just “veg out” on some MC growling and posturing. Not bad. But I am spoiled now, thanks to Bev…. so I may be overly critical of “meh” writing for a while.
Bev and Michelle – I just looked and book one is FREE still on amazon (My Familiar Stranger)….. so give it a try when in the mood for complicated storytelling and amazing characters and really cool world building. I am on a mission to get the word out how amazing this series is. Same kind of thing as WiR – slow build….. 🙂
MichelleS I already have My Familiar Stranger downloaded to my Kindle. It’s in the queue. 🙂
Are you not planning on reading Kenyon and Feehan tomorrow?
I have a few I want to finish, but I’ll read it. It might be nice to read some pnr between Rock Addiction and Deacon.
50% into Tatted and really enjoying it. Ill probably dip in and out of the series. I think I saw that the Jellybean one is on sale or free.
Fabi – (hanging head in shame)…. I stopped reading Feehan’s series after about 8 books?…. it’s been a long time….. I know I know….. I think one weird one did it to me (the one in the jungle?) but I loved the first few in the Carpathians or Dark series, whatever she calls it now. And as far as Kenyon goes (ducking all kindles being thrown my way)…. I have literally only read a few of hers! I KNOW!!!! I missed that boat, I think, and it seems too overwhelming now to try to hop on.
I think I am going to read Darkness by L. Dohnner…. it came out a month ago and I forgot about it…. it is the latest in the New Species series (it’s like Lora Leigh’s Breeeds series LITE version)…. I used to devour the new ones (this is book 12), but you know how a series gets when you get to the double digits. It will be a nice little PNR fix after WiR.
What I am really in the mood for is KA. When does that come out? Tuesday?
I think Deacon comes out at the end of Sept. I should never of read those teaser chapters as now I can not wait.
Fabi when I first started reading pnr I glomed the carpathians and the Dark Hunters. Then I think burned out on them and now there are so many.
Any series that is as long as Ward’s, Kenyon’s, Feehan’s, etc. is always going to have one or more that is not up to par with the rest. Especially considering publishing contracts and deadlines that the muse doesn’t cooperate with. But those series will also have a great in them. I.e. Acheron, Zadist, etc.
Actually, some of the shorter ones, like Moning’s leave me disappointed there aren’t more coming out.
MichelleS I have some of the ones you mention either read or waiting tbr. I keep forgetting I have them waiting.
I’ve been enjoying exploring this new CR genre and indie authors that I forgot those waiting. But, WiR has put me right back into the Urban fantasy/PNR kick. So I think it’ll be several books before I get back to romance.
Y’all can blame bev, Michelle and MichelleS. 🙂
Bev – same here…. burned out… and some series are just too long (hello Anita Blake)… PNR series I am still reading when new ones come out: BDB (but they just don’t have that feel anymore), IAD (haven’t had a good one in a while), Breeds (still going strong), New Species (hit and miss), Knights of Black Swan (still loving it), Elemental World (loving it), Mercy Thompson (still great)…. can’t think of any others right now. The new one in Fever series is taking SO LONG….. and I am behind with Dex and Perry too (didn’t finish #7)… I will only read a new PNR series if it doesn’t have 20 books in it, because I can’t even imagine ever getting caught up.
Bev, I didn’t read the teaser chapters. Glad now that I didn’t.
If y’all want short series urban fantasy, I gotta keep recommending The Neanderthal Parallax. It only has 3 books and it is one of those mind blowing reads.
I’m one of those ones that loved Anita until, in my opinion, she just wasn’t Anita anymore.
I’m a little upset with KMM’s Burned. It is moving back to Mac and Barrons as the primary story and well, I was digging Dani and Ryo.
It is still going to be a stop drop and roll, but I was happy with Mac being the secondary storyline for this one.
Hey guys, thanks for that info on My Familiar Stranger. I am just getting into the PNR genre so I immediately downloaded it!
Amy, I’m at 80%of Room 212 and whoa…what a whirlwind! This just better have a happy ending or I will hunt you down! Lol!
Bev, the Jelly Bean book was so great! Short but great! I loved it and I think you will be wanting to jump right into the next book with the way things end in the first……just sayin…..
bev, all that info is brand new to me. Burned isn’t out yet right? And I thought the next several were Dani’s story. They better be since Iced left us kinda hanging.
WHAT? Burned isn’t the continuation of Dani’s story? No way… what a tease…. I wanted to see who she ends up with (when she grows up a bit, of course… even though I never saw her as a little girl…). I love Mac and Barrons, but their story has been told and I am totally into Dani now. Where did you hear that Bev?
Bev – when Anita started boinking everything that moved (or had feathers or fur) she lost me. She went from virgin to succubus and I lost count of her sexual partners! The swan was too much for me!!! And she didn’t give me enough of who I loved (Asher and Jean Claude). So I abandoned Anita. Same for her Meredith Gentry series… non stop sex fest. 😉
Sex fest? blinking? lol love it
Auto correct strikes again, phone this time, iPad’s been diasabled.
*boinking*
As you can see, it only corrects to change my words, not to actually correct spelling errors
She says Dani and her storyline is still the same just how it is told is different. Mac as primary and Dani as secondary. I just want the reverse. Ok I saw it here. Fingers crossed. I can be bad with links.https://smexybooks.com/2014/08/smexys-top-ten-august-22.html
Wow, that is disappointing news. It’s not out though. Expected in Jan
Oh BOO… I really wanted it to be Dani’s story. I don’t want trouble in paradise for Mac and Barrons and I liked Dani’s feisty, snarky ADHD weirdness… and all her zipping around at high speed and eating candy bars… and the men who adored her. Well crap on a cracker.
Yes Anita went from very dark fantasy to straight up erotica. And it never felt like an organic transition. And I really liked Anita until all the men liked her and all the women hated her. I’m not fond of that. I like it in a series when the heroine has healthy and strong friendships with other women.
Hmm I guess Mercy has mostly men friends, but I would want to be Mercy’s friend, lol.
Yes loved Dani. She is unique. Was looking forward to watching her grow up. And I like that she isn’t the most powerful and so has to start using her wits. And I honestly can not guess at where KMM was taking her, and I like that.
But again will start it day it comes out.
Jean…uhhhhhh, peace offering? *holding out a red frisbee* So, I’m starting OES today, and then One More Chance comes out tomorrow!!! 😀 I need some Abbi Glines lovin’ after Black Ties. *twitching* I have to admit that I’m a little apprehensive about OES because I have mixed feelings about a certain someone in it, but it’s Karina Halle so…yeah, I’ll go there. 😉
MichelleS, “boinking everything with feathers or fur”? Ewwwww!!!! *snort*
Reminds me of a meme I saw about Twilight where it showed the three of them and said it was about a girl trying to decide between necrophilia and bestiality. LOL!!
omg Amy, you always get me laughing. Where do you come with all the craziness? I’ve started to hold my breath when I see you’ve posted again, in anticipation of the next funny, crazy, off the wall thing you’ve come up with.
Aw, Fabi… *blushing* I have a dirty/warped/often-inappropriate sense of humor. I love and appreciate that you ladies haven’t run me off from here! 😉
I end up goofing off online while waiting on my work to load which makes it way too easy to find random stuff and harass all of you. *giggle*
Michelle S ok grabbed it does look fun.
@ Jean this fall looks like it will be pnr heavy for me. So…by any chance did anyone mention a book called Written in Red to you? You know if you were looking to try books like this. Just grabbed Jelly bean, just for the title alone.
@ Fabi curious as to where you are in the book.
Matthew’s new review made me want to squirrel.
Amy – did you read Anita Blake? If it was a shifter, she boinked it… I kid you not: wereleoaprds, hyenas, lions, tigers, wolves, jaguars, and the king of the swans!!!! Vamps became boring…. I kid you not. It became bad porn.
And Bev, you are right. Ms. Hamilton does not know how to write a heroine that women like. But…. (one more chance to plug Black Swan,,, yay)… Elora Laiken is kick a$$ and ALL the women in the story like her (Litha, Aelosong, Rosie… strong men and women). PLUG#2….. heehee….
OMG, you’re gonna plug a black swan…BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Sorry… *giggle*
I walked right into that one, didn’t I Amy? Anita is the Swan boinker…. (I should have know better than to use the word plug around here…. ack).
Where is Jelly Bean? I can’t find the one-click link…. who is the author?
*snort* Maybe the jelly bean is the plug in the black swan…LOL!!
Seriously though, it’s called Just Jelly Beans and Jealousy…and it’s FREE!!
I second My Familiar Stranger is a great pnr read although I enjoyed some books in the series while others were just ok for me. Fabi, Kenyon is auto buy for me so I’m planning on reading Son of No One but I’m actually more excited for next week and Kim Harrison’s The Witch With No Name. LOVE that series and this is the final book. Anyone who wants to read a great pnr series I highly recommend it. Poor Anita – I still buy anything by LKH but for sure her recent books have been lacking. I think I still buy because she was one of the first pnr series I read and also I’m obsessed with Edward. Speaking of Edward does anyone have any recs for pnr/urban fantasy reads with a male character like that? I also am obsessed with Pritkin from Karen Chance’s Cassie Palmer series…I guess like a badass bodyguard type with a love for badass cool weapons that is just yummy haha yeah yummy sums it up.
Edward is her mentor right? The one I should be terrified of but am all ” hey you” instead, lol. Off the top of my head can not think of any. Not pnr but Sebastian or Evan Arden may fit a bit. Or Karina Halle’s Javier.
Kim Harrison have the first 2 in pb but haven’t read them. Should start since it will be finished and my library has them all.
Another series I want to pick back up is the Dresden series. Love Harry but am way behind now.
OK I forgive you Amy….I did love it!!! I might be squirreling from OES. Let me guess, are you feeling “something special” for Javier?? I really want to read Beauty and the Mustache and I want to read Worth Forgiving, the 3rd book in the series which I LOVE!!!!!
Bev, of course I’ve heard of WIR! You guys have been talking about it for days!! Lol! That good huh?
Just Jelly Beans and Jealousy is a novella to the Reed Brothers series by Tammy Falkner which was a great series!
Bev, Im at 20%, page 90. Will probably spend all week on it. My reading quantity when I’m working and when I’m off work are two very different things.
I thought I’d get a lot more reading in during the long weekend but I had school work and house work and car work and ugh…
Im downloading Jelly Beans and Jealousy too. Hey, it can go in my tbr, so keep the suggestions coming.
Michelle – Justus De Gradi in the Mageri Series is a badass bodyguard type! Did you read that series? LOVED IT. It got better and better and better… the subsequent books, I mean. The first one is called Sterling.
For cool weapons…. hmmm….. Elemental Mysteries series? They have some kick-@$$ vamps that do some kind of king fu type stuff with cool weapons…. LOVED that series too. Slow build, but then it gets awesome.
All this talk is making me reach for more PNR or urban fantasy. Thanks a lot Bev, I blame you.
Yeah Edward is her mysterious and yes scary but oh so hot mentor. Evan and Sebastian are good suggestions and loved them both but yeah wish I could find more pnr with Edward or Pritkin type characters. Oh god if you love the slow burn romances and pnr then Rachel Morgan and Trent are for perfect and you MUST…yes I’m ordering you haha, read the Kim Harrison series. I have it right up on my reader since I just reread some of them and it’s 13 books in all. I’m way behind on the dresden series too but need to pick it back up someday. Which book is Javier in – I don’t think I’ve read that one if it’s Karina Halle?
BTW, Michelle, the Mageri series is complete (5 books) – so not a huge commitment!!
Jelly Beans and Jealousy – downloading now – adding it to the pile….
Man, I love a female character who is tough as nails. Whether its weapons or martial arts or pnr abilities, whatever, I love it when “she” can hold her own in spite of her size and strength. I find those characters are few and far between. Must not be a popular thing with authors and readers. In fact, the only one coming to mind right now is xex in bdb. Did I even spell it right. I was listening instead of reading at the time so the spellings escape me.
Hmm I don’t know who pritkin is.
Have you read any of Nalini Singh’s pnr? Raphael from her Arch angel series can be pretty lethal and Elena is kick ass.
Her psy/changeling series is great too. The changelings are anything but unfeeling but are dangerous and the psy are taught to suppress all feeling.
Not totally Edward but nice if you like very dangerous alpha men and very smart strong heroines.
You loved it, Jean??? YAY!! *dancing around* I don’t know about you, but her actions after that part – you know which one – and when she visited her mother for comfort made her pain just palpable for me. I’m so happy you loved it, too!!
MichelleS I responded to your recs on another post last night but I read the elemental mysteries series and loved it and said I actually have the mageri series box set 1-3 on my kindle unread, must have picked it up on sale so I’m moving that one up my list for sure then! Excited if it has a character like that! Actually with all this pnr talk I might need my next book to be one because now I’m craving a fix.
Another one I recommended to Bev is Touched by AJ Aalto – it had everything for me suspense, romance, paranormal twist and the main character is hilarious too…read only the first book in the series of three so far but first one was great and want to get the next two for sure.
Bev, I’ve read a couple of of those out of order and enjoyed them but they were never my favorite but still very good reads. Maybe if I read them in order? Pritkin is from Karen Chance’s Cassie Palmer series which is another of my favorite pnr series. He is a stubborn, coffee addict mage/secret incubus that at first wants to kill the main character but then becomes her bodyguard/trainer and starts to develop feelings for her. Another slow burn romance and this one also has a sort of love triangle going on so very complex with great character development.
You guys are talking about a lot of PN books, so I’m going to throw in my rec. Jennifer Armentrout’s Covenant series is one of my absolute favorites! Yes, even more than the Lux series (I still love Daemon and all his hotness though!!). It is about descendants of mythological gods, and it *is* YA, but if you have ever read her work then you know it’s easy to forget you are reading YA.
To sum it up as briefly as possible, there are the pure-bloods (Aiden) and the half-bloods (Alexandria), and the half-bloods can either become Sentinels to protect the pure-bloods from daimons or become their branded, drugged and abused servants. Relationships between pure-bloods and half-bloods are forbidden (the half will get branded and go into servitude automatically), so things seem impossible for the H and h.
Whereas Daemon is broody and moody but still hot as hell, Aiden is a bada$$ sweetheart. Sounds like a weird combo but it works with him! Alex is a kicka$$ heroine but not arrogant and is always saying or doing the wrong thing…like nailing another student in the head (face?) with an apple when she is already on probation and in danger of being put in servitude.
As much as I love the Lux series, I would recommend this one even MORE. It reads *fast* and I would actually re-read the whole damn thing even with my crazy TBR list. And it is complete! 😀 Oh man, this is making me want to re-read it right now!
Amy that one is sooo on my wish list. I loved Lux. Is the prequel Daimon a must before Half Blood?
Amy I’ve wanted to read that one for forever but I was waiting to see if the price would drop and it hasn’t at all boo. I’ve read the lux series so if you say it is better I should just suck it up and spend the cash. I heard it was really similar in storyline to vampire academy to the point that some complained and maybe that held me off too.
Fabi, Daimon does not *have* to be read before Half-Blood. Daimon is a brief period of time right before Half-Blood, and it’s just one of those novellas that gives an extra touch of awesome to the series. And for .99 cents, well… 😉
OMG Michelle, there aren’t many books I would recommend paying the slightly higher price for but *these* I definitely would!!! They are sooooo worth it!!! I think Half-Blood is around the 3.00 price (I would have to check). If you liked Lux then I think you would love Covenant, especially since you already know how great her writing is.
As to the similarity to VA, I read VA when I was still obsessed with YA PNR (thankyouverymuch Twilight ;)), and I thought Covenant was similar at first but quickly changed my mind. Other than the whole being taken back to the school and forbidden love aspects (MUCH different FL with this though), I would say Covenant throws down and pounds VA’s a$$ into the pavement…I’m actually a little embarrassed to say I read VA. *snicker* Seriously, no comparison and so much better.
So, yeah…suck it up and spend the cash!! 😀 I’ll owe you a martini if you don’t care for the series…that is, if *someone* doesn’t snatch it first. *snicker*
@Michelle S You are very welcome, especially since you have potentially added another half dozen series to my tbr, lol.
@ Amy that does sound good. But I still have the Luxe series to finish.
@Michelle hmm I think if you suck it up and try Amy’s series the Amy should suck it up and read WIR;-)
Oh now I like that one Bev! How about it Amy, I will take the Covenant series plung if you try out Written in Red. MichelleS and Fabi chime in and tell her how fabulous that one is!
Oooooh, Bev! Talkin’ about me like I’m not even here…I *have* WIR so nanny-nanny boo-boo!!! 😛 It does look really good though. Tell ya what…if you jump from Lux (as much as I love it!) and start Covenant, I’ll start WIR. *giggle* Yeah I’m a dork. 😉
1638. Digest that number. I just spent an hour re-organizing my collections in my Kindle app and…yeah, I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. *scratching head* Wow. I’m just…I can’t even…good lord… *face palm*
Same goes for you, Michelle!! I’ll start WIR if you start Covenant…but it has to wait until after One More Chance which is coming out tomorrow. 😉
1638 holy crap Amy! Sayyyy with that much experience I bet you can tell me how to remove a book from my tbr collection once I’ve read it. Not remove it from the kindle app, just from the collection. I use the apps not the physical kindle btw.
And, oh yeah, pretty please read WiR. We’d be reading it together since I’m at the beginning.
Covenant is definitely on my wish list, but considering my current lineup and reading speed, it’ll be at least a month before I get to it.
I never read VA, for some reason it never called my name. When it comes to YA, I’m more of a dystopian fan. In fact, it took me years and years before I read Twilight. I can’t even remember why I picked it up now. But ended up reading the entire series like 3-4 times, p,us the movies. I loved Lux so I’m sure I’ll love Covenant.
Wrt more expensive books, remember the public library. Libraries nowadays have ebooks as well as audible books and the good old hard copy (except the newer libraries that are digital only).
And aside from that, some of our Kindle and Nook books are lendable at least once. I need to make a list of the ones I currently have that are eligible for lending. It changes as authors publish new works.
Sold – I will start Covenant by this weekend since I still am finishing up Nothing Left to Lose first and Maybe Someday. Bev, do you want to be my adventure buddy on this one too – I promise I won’t leave you in the snow bank again!
S’alright bev, if Michelle is mean to you again you can come in and hang out with me at the mail stop. Just be careful not to try to come over the counter. There’s a mean wolf hereabouts.
Just wait wait wait…Bev was gonna blame me if you all hated WiR so I was not being mean, she was *points finger*
Are there any libraries that have ebook collections online you can recommend? I’m on booklending.com and like that a lot but it takes forever to get really popular books. I have a bunch I could lend too on here and would rather do that since I know you all would appreciate them.
Yes Amy….. that visit with her mother had me crying right along with her!
….. but Amy, all those wasted years…. It just killed me!
Alright Amy & Michelle you’ve got a deal. Remember adventure buddies do not leave each other in the snow. And “nanny-nanny boo-boo”? Lol. Wow I thought mine was out of control.
Ahh thanks Fabi ! I’ll chance the wolf to get a peek at the ponies and their grumpy faces.
Ha, Amy you killed Jean with your book!!
Yeyy excited to have an adventure buddy for this one…ETA with my books I’m finishing is around thursday to start Half-Blood. Oh and just give the mean wolf some cookies and he will leave you alone.
Yeahhhhh…that’s unread books. Un-read. That’s just embarrassing. And the good thing About FragrantBooks’s blog? I can’t go back and delete my post so that number is out there now, and maybe I’ll be reminded to use some self control from now on. We won’t even talk about how many bottles of nail polish I have. 😐 Just…no.
As for removing a book from a collection (this is assuming you are using the Kindle app and not an actual Kindle), just hold your finger over the book until the box pops up and then select “Remove from collection.”
Okay, Jean, now you can BADGER others about it right along with me!! *hee hee* And I may have killed her with it, Bev, but it was the *good* kind of killed. 😉
Yay Michelle and Fabi! Okay, so I’ll start WIR right after OMC. Oh, and Jean…JEAN! Hey, I’ve got a plan for us…we have so many of the same books TBR that I’m gonna make up a list and you are going to follow it right along with me and not deviate and…wait, wait…shhhhhh… *stroking Jean’s head soothingly* Keep calm and trust Amy.
*running away giggling*
Amy that was hilarious and creepy all at the same time, lol.
RUN JEAN RUN
That number was for un-read?!!! I’m adding crazy to hilarious and creepy. lol. And here I was stressing with 60 or so unread. Sheesh, I’m still an amateur at 1-clicking
For library ebooks check with your local library first. I found out years ago that mine had streaming or downloadable audible books. Of course, I’d spent a fortune on audio books first.
Otherwise you can look at openlibrary, worldlibrary, digilibrary, freelibrary, overdrive and gutenberg to name a few
We really should share too. Many of us are still working our way through Maryse’s lists and don’t exclusively read new releases. Nook makes it easy to see which ones are lendable. Amazon not so much, but still doable.
MichelleS showed me how to post my Kindle library on goodreads but it doesn’t show which are lendable. It’s a start at least.
Haha you guys are too funny! Yes Amy I now understand your obsession with Room 212………I honestly can’t stop thinking about it and it’s hard to explain why….I had a long car ride home tonight and I just kept replaying the book in my head…..
OK I’m at 450 on my TBR so Amy made me feel better… Give me your list Amy! Although I agree with bev, that was kinda creepy!!! Lol!
Wanna know what else? That number is *not* including those on my wish list…at one point in time I actually kept a wish list, and then at some point I just started one-clicking every book I wanted instead of simply adding them to my WL. I really should look into how to loan them out so I don’t feel as guilty… 😕
Oh, y’all are too uptight!!! I’ll show you freaking creepy… 😛
Exactly, Jean!! It just *stays* with you. What a great find, right? 😀 Now we just need to get others to try it…
It’s on my wish list Amy. I still have one. 🙂
