So… who feels like having an intense ugly cry? A good bout of blubbering? A supreme sob-fest? I know… I know. Why!!?? Whyyyyy do we do this to ourselves? I mean, we fear the pain, we know going into these, what we *might* be in for (or at the very least, a few big fat ploppy tears). It freakin’ hurts! (P.S. Part one is here: 8 Books That Made Me Cry…)
Now of course, not all of them are going to make you cry because of what you *think* would be the obvious tear-jerking situation. Meaning, not everyone has to “die” to make me cry. 😉 Sometimes (maybe even most times), there’s an HEA!
Sometimes it’s just the incredible depth of emotion that is explored. Taken in, and experienced, personally by the reader. A devastating break up. A discovery. A memory. Sometimes it’s simply such a profound, beautiful experience that has us crying with incredible joy.
But there’s something just so addictive about books that make you feel that much. Books that make you think about them for days on end. Stories that have you crying again, just by remembering certain scenes. Tales that force you to change your top ’cause you soaked it with your tears (<— happened to me!). Or your pillow case as was the situation below, with one of our fellow readers. Using that same ratty shriveled and tear-soaked kleenex to sop up your never-ending cascade of sorrow, ’cause you thought one would be enough. Maybe you wouldn’t even need one, right? Until finally you relent, forcing yourself to go out in public (or at least, the rest of your house) to locate the box of tissues to finally let yourself really go. Yep. Happened to me, too. 😉 And I already had such a list, but WOW does it need an update!
Reesa: Can you make a list of books that made you ugly cry? Or am I not finding it? Love your page get every book from your recommendations.
Maryse: Hi Reesa! My personal list that I posted a year or so ago is a bit short, but there are a bunch of reader recommendations on it, too! Here it is: https://www.maryse.net/books/books-that-made-me-cry.html.
Charlotte: Cccccccrrrrrryyyyy. I now feel in the mood for a good cry! Please can you help? I have read most of the ones you have listed last year but was wondering if there has been any new recommendations for a good book that can give me a good cry!
Sharon: I love ugly cry books!!!
Erin: Wow! I am bookmarking this one. Idk why, but this is the type of books I’m feeling lately. Thanks Maryse.
Yep. You know what? I think it’s time for a part two… 😉 And here it is!
My latest “books that made me cry” recommendations (Quick Note: Okay so, while I used to pride myself on not being an easy “book-cryer”, it would seem I’m pretty much a book-cry-baby now, so for my list, I’m posting the ones that I remember my biggest emotional reactions from). AND then a list from our fellow readers right below it (and I’ve read the grand majority and cried in ’em too):
The Edge of Never by Jessica Redmerski <— Wow… my other list *IS* old, ’cause this one feels like a “classic” to me now, and it’s not even on that list! GAH!!!!! One of the biggest physical, visceral reactions I’ve EVER had reading a book… OMG!!!!!!!!! This one! Now I know so many of you already know I’m all about this book (and have already read it – like Lisa: “…absolutely loved both of these books. My all time favorites“), and Julie: “J.A. Redmerski is my favorite writer, her writing is truly remarkable!! She is absolutely out of this world awesome!!” but I also know there are a bunch of new fellow readers that have joined us in the last year and haven’t read it. Kimmie agrees: “I just read The Edge of Never on your recommendation. I couldn’t put it down. This book made me sob so much that I had to pause and wipe my tear because my vision was so blurry I couldn’t continue.” Take my advice. READ IT!!!!! 😀 One of my favorite books EVER!!! A tidbit from my review:
“Maybe two or three books total in my entire reading life that not only made me cry, but made me tremble and shake AFTER my cry-fest. After the fact. AFTER I finished the book. I’m still trembling as we speak.”
Check out my Book Review. You’ll see.
Me Before You: A Novel by Jojo Moyes
An UNDENIABLE favorite amongst SO many of us that love our tear-jerkers. Profound, real, exciting, intense and exquisite in every single way. WHAT. A. STORY! Every facet is explored lovingly and we get to feel it ALL. ALL. Bring that box of tissues with you. You’re gonna need it.A message that I sent to my friend Jackie (that bought me the book and insisted I read it):
“I cried (oh boy did I ever) … I know. I mean…. *spoiler* SO FREAKING HEARTBREAKING!!! I was going to text you at a certain point, and my husband said… “It’s like 4 am over there.” I said, “Too bad! She should know better. Time for her to wake up and comfort me.”
Here’s my Book Review.
Love, in English by Karina Halle <—- Oh GOSH the bus ride… not the first one (although awwww!!! LOVED it). But the second one. And all of it after… Yep. CRIED!!!!!!!! What a LOVE story!! A bit from my review:
“6:52am and I’m reading. And crying… Lucky i still have half of the book to go, but OMG if I’m already crying I’m in for it.”
Here’s my Book Review.
Forever, Interrupted: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid <— I sobbed pretttttyyyyy much… through the whole. Darn. Thing. There are no words. While I loved her other book (After I Do) a half star more than this one, THIS one made me soak my pajama top. And that’s what we’re looking for, right? 😉 Wanna sneak peek at my pain?
“WHAT. AN. ENDING!!! I was blown away by that last line, but don’t you dare go look!!!!!!
I was just… moved beyond belief, stunned into silence as big fat tears plopped off my cheeks, soaking my pajama top. And then I backed up, and re-read that last chapter again. And sobbed some more.”
Here’s my Book Review.
Fifty Shades Darker: Book Two of the Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James
I absolutely LOVED this series wayyyyy back in the day it was still indie, and while it was intense and emotional and romantic and angsty as HECK, there was a scene in the book that BROKE me. If you read this, you know the scene. A certain scene of “breaking”… submission. One of the most intense, sad, desperate, heartbreaking scenes that burned it’s way into my head and heart forever! And Jessica agrees: “Fifty Shades by E.L. James. — Need I say anything? Just wow. Out of all the 50 times I have read all three of the books I will NEVER get over them! Christians past & everything about him brought a tear to my eye or a smile to my face. Who could not love & cry over him?” Want a hint of my reaction from my review?
“OMG… Reading book 2 of Fifty Shades of Grey, I’m about halfway through and something so shocking just happened… I didn’t see it coming, and then all of the sudden I knew it would, and then… it did. Oh wow. My heart…”
Here’s my Book Review.
Arsen. A broken love story by Mia Asher
One of the most sob-inducing romance/anti-romance novels I’ve ever read. Oh it was a rough start for me at first. I was hovering on… well. Not caring much either way. But then it kicked in and BURNED it’s way into my mind. My heart. This one made me sob so hard I shook my mattress… making my husband’s snores sound funny. LOL!!!! *thank goodness he was asleep ’cause I looked ridiculous* And Toski agrees: “That one killed me.. “Not tonight Cathy.” <– haunts me” . Oumaima is right there with us! “Never cried more than when I was reading Arsen by Mia Asher, I’m still searching for that one book that would make me feel as much as I did while reading the jewel that Arsen is…” Would you like a hint at how much I loved it?
“OMG I was wrecked. The emotion was building and building and then my anger turned to devastation. And in my absolute agony, I was delighted. This was the kind of soul-deep reaction that makes me never forget a book, and want to scream it from the rooftops. It. made. me. FEEL.”
Here’s my Book Review.
Bad Things (Tristan & Danika Book 1) by R.K. Lilley <— I LOVE when LOVE stories make me cry ’cause of break ups and crazy stuff in the relationship. It’s just a touch less devastating but still so devastating in it’s own right. This is one of those series!!! Crazy, angsty, tumultuous, bad-for-you love, but undeniable, unforgettable love, too. Wanna see a touch of my tears?
TEARS!!!!! OMG!!!!! THAT TORE my heart out. Oh it got torn out multiple times, mind you, but THAT? GAH!!! … So the fact that you guys say I haven’t seen nothing yet? Prepare to hold me, my friends. That was already hard enough. The author mentions “trainwreck” and she wasn’t kidding…
Here’s my Book Review.
The Last Hour (Thompson Sisters Book 3) by Charles Sheehan-Miles
Pure sob-inducing ecstasy. Oh gosh… even my mom cried. Yeah… this. Beautifully written, beautifully lived, just plain beautiful. Heartbreaking. Real. This. And Rebecca agrees: “…absolutely gutted me.” A part of my review:
I had to distance myself as I was reading. It’s a… “reflex”. A self-preservation thing where if I have a good grasp of a painful issue right off the bat, well… I go into self-preservation mode. But it never works. I can hold back all I want. I can manage to reach the “sad” parts and maybe only tear up. Maybe only shed a tear, even. But it catches up to me. ALWAYS. Holding back only delays the inevitable.
Here’s my Book Review.

- The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold <— Made Norma cry! “I read The Lovely Bones way before it was a movie. The book is so much better.I thought. I cried thru it.” and Bev agrees: “I’m not a big book crier. The Lovely Bones did me in.“
- The Flame and the Flower (Birmingham Book 1) by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss <— and this one, too!
- The Power of One: Young Readers’ Condensed Edition by Bryce Courtenay <— Mel loved these: “There are a couple of books that got me though, truly moving, powerful and sometimes hard to keep going! The Power of One and its sequel Tandia by Bryce Courtenay are amazing…”
- God Shaped Hole: A Novel by Tiffanie DeBartolo <— Monique recommends it! “When you get the chance, check out God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo.”
- Cry No More (Howard, Linda) by Linda Howard <— Kat loved it! “I would like to add Linda Howard’s “Cry No More” to the list. I sobbed so hard that I had a headache for hours after it.“
- Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah <— Theresa recommends this one! “I have a terrible habit of occasionally reading ahead…which I did with this book. I found a part that made me cry like a baby and then I was so mad at the book I put it down for a couple of weeks. My BFF and reading buddy, kept telling me to finish it, so finally I picked it up again and I did finish it, but even knowing what was coming I still cried like a baby, twice more before I was done with the book.” and Sheri agrees! “OMG…I totally forgot about Firefly Lane. That book had me bawling like a baby. I must add that to my list!“
- Years by LaVyrle Spencer <— Bridget LOVES this one! “Years by LaVyrle Spencer. Favorite book ever!” and my mom and aunt agree! I need to read this ASAP!
- Forever My Girl (The Beaumont Series Book 1) by Heidi McLaughlin <— Kylee cried! Her husband was worried. LOL! “My husband was totally freaked out that I was crying. He asked why I was reading it if it made me cry! Usually he doesn’t ask anymore, he just awkwardly pats my back, but he knew I had just started the book, so couldn’t believe I was already crying!”
- Reason To Breathe (The Breathing Series, #1) by Rebecca Donovan <— Kylee loved this one, too! “Good freaking Lord! I haven’t finished the second book yet. I want the third book out first, so I can start reading it as soon as I’m done with the second. I know I will sob through the other books in the series!” (my Book Review)
- Night Road (Reading Group Gold) by Kristin Hannah <— This one made Erin cry! “If you want a book that will make you bawl read “The night road” by Kristin Hannah. Omg!!!! This one hits all the fear and pain when you are a parent. So so so good. I also just read “Home Front” by Kristin Hannah. Also made me cry but not quite as good as the night road.”

- Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder <— Barbara cried! “falling into you by jasinda wilder. you know what’s going to to happen, but daaang if you don’t end up snot-bubble-blowing-ugly-crying anyway! and talk about steamy….whoa. i’ll never look at doorframes the same way again )))”
- Chasing Nikki (Chase Walker Book 1) by Lacey Weatherford <— Krystal’s tear-jerker: “The first book that had me bawling… literally sobbing my heart out was Chasing Nikki… holy sh!t! I had read reviews and was warned I would need a box of tissues so I did expect tears but I really didn’t think I would need an actual whole box… well I came very close. And I had to walk away from my Kindle for a few minutes just to compose myself enough to continue reading.”
- Playing in the Rain by Jane Harvey-Berrick <— Debbie gave us her friend’s “cry-list” and this one is on it!
- Today Only by D. Love <— And this one! “In life, there are times you are granted a miracle. It may not be the one you wanted exactly, but it will be the one you need. It will prepare you for the next step in your journey and help you learn to accept the life you are given, even if that life can be heartbreaking.“
- The Note by Teresa Mummert <— and this one…
- Barefoot In the Grass by Judith Arnold <— and this one!
- Deeper We Fall (Fall and Rise, Book One) by Chelsea M. Cameron <— and this one!
- Away by B.A. Wolfe <— Trisha says: “Great list. Away by B. A. Wolfe is the last book that made me cry” and then more started piping in about it’s awesomeness.
Tracie: Away by B.a. Wolfe, outstanding and made me cry like a girl
Kod: …I don’t like to cry or sad books. Like at all. Ever. Then one day this girl I shall never forgive (Tracie Payne) said, “read this book… It’s sooo good!) Unsuspecting, I did. I was a blubbering MESS!!! The book was Away by BA Wolfe. A must read MARYSE! So good and I eventually thanked T for the rec. Loved it!
Tracie: It’s soo good! Kodi you loved it. And I have Trisha Reads to thank for that as well. She totally got me
Kodi: FYI! Go in blind with that one peeps!
Tracie: Yes^^ only way to go
Trisha: When I said it was the last book I read that made me cry, I failed to mention I made a few others cry as well. It is worth every tear, but as my friends above said, just go in blind and expect one beautiful emotional ride. This debut book blew me away.

- Love is a Fire (Burning Lovesick Book 1) by Lyssa Layne <— Dana recommends this one! “…she rips your heart out but slowly puts it back together (and I hope its finally healed in the 2nd book)”

- Broken Wings by Erica Ashby <— This one sealed Lauren’s eyes shut! Eeeeep!! 😉 “Broken Wings by Erica Ashby. I’m not a big cryer (having 4 brothers, no sisters & 3 sons, no daughters….I live in a sea of testosterone) but this book….OMG, my eyes swelled shut I cried so hard.”
- Tempt My Heart: A Brittan McKenna Story by Danielle Jamie <— Danicka’s cry-choice: “Big fat ugly cry. But don’t let that deter you because it’s also about second chances. Has a hot Marine & a Rock star. Just really good!“
- Watch Over Me by Tara Sivec <— Bev’s recommendation: “…great book and so different than her other book I’d read. And it brought the tears.”
- Ruining Me by Nicole Reed <— Mandy recommends this one! “I can say I don’t think any other books had me crying like Ruining Me and Ruining You by Nicole Reed. Literally balling my eyes out. If I haven’t read them you should add them to your list.” and Krystal agrees: “The only other books that have had me that emotionally wound up and devastated and uncontrollably sobbing were Ruining Me and Ruining You. These were 2 awesome reads but holy hell did they wrench my heart.“
- Ruining You by Nicole Reed <— and here’s the second one!
- The Tied Man by Tabitha McGowan <— I hear this one’s a dark read but will make you cry! Laura says: “The Tied Man by Tabitha McGowan!!!! Oh it was horrific I think I cried the whole book! I’m crying just thinking about him…. Oh maryse it’s dark very very dark great story but oh if u felt sorry for archer in archers voice this guy will break ur heart so much…” and then: “Oh the tied man is in the freezer Amy not because it’s scary it’s just to much!! Oh u will need a reading buddy to get through it’s an amazing story though u want to commit violence towards some of them yourself oh I think I will have to read it again just for the torture lol…“
Why do we do this to ourselves? Because it’s a great way to expend emotions and gives us a good excuse to cry when we just need a good ol’ gut-churning fugly cry…and we all need those sometimes…or at least *I* do. 😉 Love this list!
I recognized so many above which I’ve already read that made me *bawl* and the rest are being sorted in a Kindle app collection titled “Ugly Criers.” Tristan and Danika…that is one “trainwreck” that I would experience over and over again if I could!
present perfect!!! i highly recommend !!!! it’s a really beautiful story… you will cry, but you will laugh .:)))
Right there with you Amy!!! That was a crazy-angsty series!!! LOVED IT!
Trouseau! Yep!! It’s up there. 😀
Ya know, I haven’t been able to read another book by Charles Sheehan Miles after I read The Last Hour. It broke my heart and I have been mad at him ever since! Lol
Oh I have 2 jahleel when she’s listening to the songs 🙁 and one that I can’t remember the name of god I will find it but it’s not because it was love heartbreaking it’s because what they did to him was so bad traumatising bad 🙁 oh I will find the name!
The Tied Man by Tabitha McGowan!!!! Oh it was horrific I think I cried the whole book! I’m crying just thinking about him
Oh YAY Laura!! It’s on my main TBR list!!!!
Oh Amy I agree the whole Tristan/Danika series for sure. Transcendence, Archer’s Voice, Wethering the Storm, the Moore series and the Driven trilogy also just had me bawling snotty nose and all. Loved them all with my whole soft heart!!!
Oh maryse it’s dark very very dark great story but oh if u felt sorry for archer in archers voice this guy will break ur heart so much
Outlander was the first book I had cried reading since I was a teenager. Then the tears continued at some point in all the subsequent books of that series. Sad, happy, and everything in between. I’ve read so many from your list above, but I’ll be adding a few more to my tbr list now. It’s inspiring me to invest in a case of kleenex and enjoy!
I’ve been scared to read The Tied Man! I read a very small excerpt one time and wanted to cry from that alone. It’s sitting on my iPad, but I think I need a buddy read. Volunteers? Anyone?? Please??!! There’s a manatee snuggle in it for you!! 😉
Yay for crazy/angsty reads and snotty-nose bawling! *giggle* Love you ladies!
Amy! I want to read it next, but gotta finish Breath first…
Yay! *clapping hands* We are so in for it with Tied Man, LOL!
OMG I finally took the plunge and read Taking Chances last night!!!! I sobbed like snotty crying. …I kept going out in our garage so I wouldn’t wake hubby lol…I spent hours in my garage…I decided to read Stealing Harper tonight so I’m setting up a cot and moving into my garage tonight lol
Kim, I cried with Taking Chances, but Stealing Harper had me bawling and fugly snot crying at the end. I thought I was prepared for it. Nope. Chase wasn’t my favorite in TC, but I really fell in love with him in SH. Wasn’t expecting that. 😉
I’m going to have to break down and read both Archers Voice and the Tristan and Danika story because you all mention them so often that my wall of resistance to these cry my heart out stories is crumbling around the edges. I’ve read a few of the ones on the lists above but it was accidentally. I’ve never jumped head first into one I knew was going to make me cry. But I’ve just finished two that weren’t gut wrenching so maybe I can handle one of these next. I generally need long breaks between them. I know, I know, I’m a wuzz when it comes to these kind of stories. Give me action, fighting, crazy a$$ characters but please don’t break my heart (too often).
Taking Chances…ugh. That book got to me big time. Over a year later and it still evokes such strong emotions in me. I actually removed it from my kindle because it hurt to even look at it! I can’t even think about reading Chase’s pov. It would gut me.
Jaime, right there with you on Taking Chances – but I read Stealing Harper at the same time – got both characters POV that way. I still can’t even think about it without it getting to me big time. Nothing else has stuck with me like that, although Mud Vein came close.
Someone mentioned Mud Vein – I forgot about that – I did cry like a blubbering fool at the end of that one…. going through all of THAT crazy mind-f#ck and then, then, then…. you KNOW….. my throat is starting to hurt again just thinking about it.
Oh the tied man is in the freezer Amy not because it’s scary it’s just to much!! Oh u will need a reading buddy to get through it’s an amazing story though u want to commit violence towards some of them yourself oh I think I will have to read it again just for the torture lol
Maryse, the only ones from your list I haven’t read are Me Before You and Loving Mr Daniels, and I bought them a long time ago!!!! Read many of the others or have them downloaded……The Last Hour will always stick with me and I understand being mad at the author for that one Jen!
Just checked out The Tied Man and would love to buddy read with you guys (as soon as I finish Tall Tatted and Tempting which I am loving)!
I rarely cry but I did a few times in Carnage #2. It was such a good book. Better than the first one – I 5 starred it!
I started Unmaking Hunter Kennedy. Decided to keep being a good girl and read from my TBR again. This one had my gut clenching practically from page 1 and fighting tears by 10% mark.
It’s supposed to be totally YA but it hasn’t felt like it so far. There’s a parent/child theme which already has me in knots.
Wish me luck ladies.
I’d love to subscribe to your blog.. I can’t wait to read some of the books you recommend that will make me cry.
Can’t wait to read some of these books that’ll make me cry…
Welcome Andrea!!! 😀 So glad you found us!
Oh, no. I have Tied Man in my tbr, a little afraid of it now.
I’m not a big book crier. The Lovely Bones did me in. If I Stay such a lovely book. Emit lost and found series I put the second one down and have not picked it back up yet. I was totally unspoiled saw and loving the first one.Realized the book was almost over and bought the second and third, lol. I’ll probably pick them up again. Case of wrong time wrong book and a little angry at the twist. Watch Over Me by Tara Sivec great book and so different than her other book I’d read. And it brought the tears.
Okay I’m not finished Breathe yet (long book!) but I just bought “The Tied Man” so when we’re ready I’m jumping in! 😀
Just saw Cry No More by Linda Howard on the list. That book hurts and yes I cried.
I just realized I also have Vital Sign, Left Drowning, and Fighting Redemption along with Tied Man on my tbr. May have to make sure I space those out.
I can say I don’t think any other books had me crying like Ruining Me and Ruining You by Nicole Reed. Literally balling my eyes out. If I haven’t read them you should add them to your list.
Fabi – I LOVED Archer’s Voice (a top read for me), and I liked T&D, just didn’t rock my world like it did for others…. although I liked it a lot better than the Up in the Air Series….
Jean – I haven’t read Me Before You either, so that makes 2 of us! Really liked Loving Mr Daniels a lot. One of the better ones in that genre.
Ya’ll are brave – Tied Man is scaring me…. I’ll wait for your review. I’m thinking Losing Me Finding You is in the mix next…..
Michelle, Archer’s Voice stayed on my wish list for now. I started Unmaking Hunter Kennedy from my TBR which I thought was going to be a sweet YA. False advertising. It belongs in this list. I’m at 20% now and I have to put it down. Going to go play guitar for a while and chill. I can’t handle overwhelming emotions like this. I just want to gather up these kids and make their lives perfect for them. Take away all bad things and give them a happy fun life to enjoy.
I was going to read Losing Me Finding You next but I somehow forgot. That’s #1 on my wish list right now. Hopefully I won’t be too destroyed after my current one to go on to that one.
I love books that make you cry. My big criers would have to be Harry potter and the deathly hallows, mockingjay, les miserables, beyonders chasing the prophesy, of mice and men, flowers for algernon…… goodness there are so many!
Savannah I have read every one of those greats. Agree! Not that I like to cry but those are all so moving, so impactful. *sigh* the things authors can do to us…
Michelle, Loving Mr Daniels for me was up there with Slammed…if not better.
Can y’all tell I’m taking a break from reading? hahaha too many posts from me
The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton made me cry so hard I thought I was going to hyperventilate!
Ok maryse Amy Jean let me know when ur ready for the tied man I will read it with u all again oh the torture!!! I need to know it’s not just me being over sensitive I’ve read a lot of dark reads but this one was just unlike the rest
Wow what a great list! Kismet as you know knocked me off my rocker. Talk about a nasty old cry!
Oh there were a couple of the Harry Potter books that had me crying. Little Women and a couple scenes from the Anne of Green Gable books did me in to.
Maryse I’m curious. What part are you on in Breathe?
Could you please put this list under Recommendations? It will be easier to find then?
I just bought The Tied Man too! Let me know when we are starting!!
It’s already in there, Pia. 🙂
Oh crap I better go defrost it from the freezer jean so it’s ready 🙁
I’m in the middle. Malachi is still missing. It’s good, but kind of longish or maybe I’m a slow reader this weekend… It’s taking me awhile.
So far it’s Maryse, Jean, Laura (re-read!) and me for The Tied Man. Woo-hoo!!!! Anyone else going to brave it with us? 😉 I’m thinking tomorrow (*possibly* tonight) is going to work for starting it. Nice to know I’m not the only one who needs a support group to read it! *giggle*
Sweet Gum Tree made me cry because I just wanted things to be so different for them than what happened. The scene with Alix and Nick in the barn near the end with the pendant and sledgehammer when she finally broke…oh, my heart. *sob*
And I’m gonna bring up Room 212 again…her reaction to the climatic event and her actions after were so genuine and realistic that it made me all weepy. Especially when she goes to her mother who she is not really close to but who she needs so much at that point.
One more time…Tristan and Danika!!!!!!! 😀 Alright…alright!! I’ll stop!!! 😛
We may need to start a therapy group after this never mind a reading group maryse I think u should give us a list of self help books after we do this maybe under the title of ‘what to do when traumatised by fiction’
It is a longer one, I think just over 400 pages. There is just something about the two of them. It looks like The Tied Man is just under that. Tempted to join as it has been sitting on my kindle for a while. It would have to be in little bites for me as I’m trying to get through a stack of soon to be or over due library books.
There are a few I’ve read that made my bubble-snot-blowing-drowning-in-my-own-tears cry; Jasinda Wilder’s The Ever Series – complete mess. Utterly. Next would be Lauren Oliver’s Before I Fall – UGH! And the last scared the crap out of me, made me cry, swoon, scare my pants off again then turn into a blubbering baby, Karina Halle’s last installment in the Experiment In Terror series Dust To Dust – POOR PERRY!!
Uh-oh. That has me worried. I haven’t started book 1 of EIT series yet. Hmm wonder what kind of trip I’m heading for. Thinking those might be my October reads. A month of this Dex & Perry everyone loves. Though I’m a big baby and hate scary.
Archers Voice by Mia Sheridan, a beautiful story with all the feels, cried so much!!
So many book memories you’ve brought up with this list…and new ones to add.
Amy so agree with Sweet Gum Tree!
Show the Fire by Susan Fanetti I’m tearing up just thinking about it. This book kicked my ass and hung my mascara flowing like a river-blubbering so hard can’t catch breath-red nosed snot face out to dry.
So I decided to read Carnage #2 (even though book one gutted me)… and here I am at 6% bawling like an idiot. I think this book is going to kill me.
I love The Tied Man it is one of my favorites. It starts a little slow but it picks up and you can’t put it down. Be warned it is very dark! I like dark and I cringed a few times. It is probably one of the darkest I have read but it is also one of the best. Enjoy ladies!
Thoughtless by s.c stephens was an emotional roller coaster for me, loved it! Also the fault in our stars by john green another ugly crier much better than the movie, but they always are.
Rock and Roll Never Forgets by Barbara Stewart devastated me, and another book that I read on your reccommendation that hurt me was Butterfly Weeds by Laura Miller.
This is a great list of books! I’m guilty in writing the ugly-cry novel, so I’m pleased to see so many devoted readers here. I’m partial to “The Bronze Horseman” and “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “April & Oliver” as my all-time favorites that grip the feels as well as my own, of course. ♥
Katherine Owen
The Time Traveler’s Wife another that made me cry. Maybe I cry more than I think. I fell hard for that book, still clearly remember little scenes from it. Have not watched the movie though. I’ve seen reviews for it and probably does not do the book justice, but someday.
Danielle, thank you! You make me feel better about starting The Tied Man tonight!
Ok Jean Amy maryse when are we doing this? I’ve defrosted and left space in the freezer for when it’s finished again
The Time Traveler’s Wife broke my heart. Stayed with me afterwards and is still me me now.
I think I’m going to start Tied Man with y’all tonight. Danielle convinced me. I don’t think I’ve had a dark read for a while. Since I’m almost done with Unmaking Hunter Kennedy (which I love!), I’m going to jump on the bandwagon with all of you and Tied Man. Is anyone going to start a forum thread?
Ok fabi I started the thread if anyone wants to join in! I’m under as mylaw not Laura just incase ur wondering!
Oh it’s in general discussion!
How about the Reluctant Dom. Cried big fat ugly tears.
I keep forgetting to mention Sara Donati is a good read if you like Diana Garabaldon – Cross Stitch or Outlander (depending on where you’re from).Start with Into the Wilderness.
Awesome Laura! Thanks. I’m going to go find it. If you have a sec, maybe you could post the link here? I’m definitely starting Tied Man tonight. (yes, I’m a little scared)
I’m scared too Fabi! I just bought it. Haven’t read a dark one in a while so hoping I can handle it!
Here’s the link…found it right away
https://talk.maryse.net/threads/the-tied-man-support-group-lol.5956/
I’m probably going to start Tied Man tonight. You ladies ready? *giggle* I don’t think I’ve ever needed reading buddies this badly before. Roll call! Laura…check. Jean…check. Fabi…check. Amy (me!)…check. Maryse…wait a minute! Maryse is ditching!!! Ooooooh, I’m gonna call her Book Dom! 😛
I’m not!!!! I’m not ditching!!! HERE I AM!!!!! LOL! I’m gonna start late, ’cause I got home late and now we’re cooking chicken ‘n dumplings before reading time. 😀
Darn it. I got mini-paddled for almost not reading. LOL! 😉
Maryse is ditching? She better hide when she hears that knocking on her door. Amy’s already sent her Book Dom.
So everyone is reading Tied Man? Think I’ll start too, though I’ll be behind you guys as will be reading library books too.
Chicken and dumplings sound good. I have only ever made the pioneer woman’s recipe. It’s pretty good.
Oh I LOVE the Pioneer Woman!!!! I don’t cook much (maybe once or twice a week) but I love to try out stuff online, and I’ve tried out her recipes too!
*hee hee* Maryse’s Book Dom was just in time for chicken ‘n dumplings…otherwise she would have gotten a *mean* paddling! 😛
Yeah chicken ‘n dumplings’ll tame any bad boy. 😉
AND OMG it was SOOOOOOOO good. SO good.
Yay!! Bev is joining us! 😀
Okay now I went crazy. I just made a huge Chinese spaghetti, too! It’s delicious!!! That one was my mom’s recipe though, but I couldn’t help myself. What is up with me cooking meals at 10:30pm? Time to read!
I am definitely living vicariously through you tonight Maryse. I can’t remember the last time I had chicken and dumplings. And I don’t think I’ve ever had homemade. Yum yum yum
Chinese spaghetti? You’ve lost me now. Never heard of that dish. But, right…Time to read before it gets too late. Can’t stay up all night tonight.
*snort* Maryse tames bad boys with her “dumplings.” That’s a new name for ’em!! 😛
Pork chops and mushroom risotto for supper here with a big ol’ glass of sweet tea. VERY sweet. Something tells me I better have a martini on hand as well for tonight’s reading…
Fabi, lol I was thinking the same thing. Never heard of it.
I’m not a very good cook but have been looking at The Outlander kitchen website and some of those look fun especially for fall.
5% in and unless pick up speed over 7 hrs, o_O
Sheesh my dinner was a blt and a glass of water. I’m feeling a bit underprivileged here. hahaha I can’t cook to save my life. Good thing Mom does such a good job of it.
Mmmm…BLT’s are sooo yummy!
I just checked out some recipes for Chinese spaghetti and YUM!!
Around 12% don’t think I’ll get to much further tonight. She is definitely different than Faye. Its funny because I have an episode of Sherlock on in the background. Another reason for my slow reading BC is slightly distracting.
Ok I’m up! Have u all started? Have u all joined the thread? Maryse tut tut for ditching! I know u are all snoozing right now so I will start to catch up!
Laura it’s cool you’re overseas. Huge time diff. I’m on a guitar blog where most are in Europe and I’m the oddball with the time diff. I always wake up to a ton of new posts. Lol so cool
Feeling left out…..
I started Carnage #2 AND went back to work (work for schools so that’s a big big bummer – summer is o-ver)…. and Carnage #2 is good. I had forgotten a bunch of what happened in book 1, but it’s all coming back now. That was a doozy. I am hoping for a HEA. That author owes me one.
Post some good tid-bits about “Tied Man” so I’ll know if it’s worth squerreling over. My gut tells me I wouldn’t really like reading about a man in that position. That means I’d have to hate the alpha female, and I don’t like the idea…. can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Off to work…. BOO…..
Michelle it’s hard to give u tids without giving stuff away but this woman isn’t an alpha that u will hate she is without a doubt a monster and not like a Caleb in captive in the dark monster were u can feel sorry and start to weirdly fall for no this woman is just someone u can’t believe could be so sick! Grrr she makes my blood boil! Join the thread Michelle we will make u squirrel!!!
I agree Laura, it’s hard without giving too much away! I am at 21% and one thing I will say, the heroine is one tough cookie! And I can’t join the thread for some reason…been waiting for a confirmation email to join but haven’t gotten anything! Boohoo!
Jean maybe check your spam folder if you have one. That is where mine was sent.
I’m having a hard time connecting with her. But I’m barely in.
omg Michelle we must be long lost twins. School is also the reason I am so busy the next few weeks.
Oh and in Tied Man, the h isn’t the monster. So far, early in the book, I’m already in love with both the h and H.
I keep checking my spam folder bev but nothing yet and I’ve been trying since last night…. I probably have everything screwed up! I haven’t completely connected with her yet either but I am hopeful:)
The other thing it never showed up in one of my email accounts and so had to send it to another that was when it showed up in my email.
Jean maybe try connecting with ur Facebook?
Thanks guys, I’m not on Facebook though. Maybe I will have to create a new email address as much as I don’t want to.
Hmmm…I can’t get to the thread either, Jean. I guess I signed up at some point (my turn with the dunce cap!) and have no idea what my password is. *sigh*
I have to finish my work and then I’m diving back in. If you need a drink while reading it, just remember it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!!! 😀 At least that’s what I tell myself. 😉
Oh it’s almost 5 here Amy ur safe lol
It’s only noon here…. Yay lunch hour! Back to Finn!!!! I will most definitely need a drink by the end of this book!
Morning here – mimosas!!!!! 😀 Oh, wait…I think my boss actually wants accuracy so I might have to hold off on those for now…
lol I have a 1 yr old to run after I better wait till bedtime!
Just getting ready to go have my morning coffee. I need to step away from the computer. I end up checking my email for your guys comments too often lately, lol.
Amy I had the same problem. I think at one time the forums did not need a password and I had been on then, and then wasn’t for a while. So it recognized my name but there was no password associated with it. Of course I could just be totally blanking on the password bit. I ended up having to create a whole new name.
I’ll try creating a new sign in name. Thanks Bev! Oh shoot it’s new release day……. trying not to look…… Oh I HAVE to look! Damn!
I like the writing style! But I’m only 10% in. Had a late start last night. You know… with all the cooking and such. 😉
Maryse I’m only at 8%. But, yea, it’s lunchtime reading time.
Maryse have u joined the thread? NO squirrelling maryse this ones officially on ur main tbr so it will be one down 100000 to go lol
Fabi – my long, lost twin…. I swear, if you are in special ed I’ll just faint!!! I’m an SLP…. and all the déjà vu is getting freaky!!!
All this peer pressure is making me angsty. For my own good, I might have to just start Tied Man …. it is just so not what I am normally into. Some 50-shades-type older bad-girl cougar and a submissive guy? But it’s not? I don’t want dark just for the sake of shock value. In the end, I’m a romance girl. Even if it’s angsty, filthy, dirty, messy, fantasy romance…. but there needs to be romance!
Carnage #2 is really good, BTW. If you read #1 you will love it. Cam is back!!! Yee-Haw. But, oh no, a hottie names Roman is too. I always liked Roman as a hero name, as an aside….
What to do? Wait for your review? Dive in sight-unseen? Keep on trekking? hmmmmm…..
Michelle, lol no I’m at the local colleges, ft faculty at one and adjunct at a couple others – in the computer science / IT fields.
Funny though you are a SLP. Both of my kids had SLP services. Neither talked until they were about 2 and a half and then needed pronounciation / enuciation help in grammar school. All due to a tri-lingual family who could never decide on a single language at home but used all three. Poor kids, took a little longer to assimilate language since they were working with more than one. Now that they’re grown, they understand all 3 but only ended up speaking English.
Totally not book related. Sorry Maryse.
But if as far as Tied Man, not something I’d normally read either. But I’m was intrigued and it’s different than anything I’ve read lately. I went into it blind. Didn’t even read the blurb or description. All I knew was that Danielle said it was dark. Figured if I was ever going to read it, it had to be with a support group. Ha!
I’m reading “the tied man” now. And Maryse this book is breaking me. It’s heartbreaking and sometimes it’s even horrible. It’s taking me forever to finish this, because a lot of times I need to take a break and go back to my world. It’s too much.
Im reading the Rock Chick series, and btw WOW I love them!
Back to the point, Rock Chick Renegade made me cry hard. The last big thing happening, when all her friends got the phone call if you know which sceen im talking about.
I just finished Beautifully Done and cried my eyes out…what a beautiful story about love and friendship and LIFE. Maryse you’ll love it!
