NOTE: LATEST UPDATE on this list —> September 5th 2015! (see them below, in the reader recommendations section – 37 new suggestions!) πΒ This is a work in progress. I will personally “taste-test” each book (hehe) that makes this list before I add it to the main part. These are my favorite lists to make, but this one’s been hard on me!! There have been many recommendations and suggestions (keep ’em coming!) but not all have given me that “Fifty” feel, ya know? I mean… come on… What the heck can live up to Fifty?? It’s been said many times, that Fifty’s ruined us for all others.
Fellow reader “Taina” said it perfectly:
“I’ve been reading about the mysterious Mr. Gray on your page and my curiosity has gotten the best of me. I will now think of books as “Before 50” and “After 50″…Β It’s also a good idea to place a warning label on the books…maybe a silver tie shaped “WARNING: This book may seriously impair your ability to enjoy any further reading” label.”
It’s kind of true.Β While I’ve found *alphas* again after Fifty, the one’s that have given me back Christian’s intensity and emotion (and occasional lack thereof) are few and far between.
But so many have asked for a list…
Lucy: “Thanks to your blog I have discovered and fallen madly, deeply in love with the Fifty Shades Trilogy. Now however I am having withdrawal symptoms and after reading them all again…considering reading them all a third time, I decided I need a new obsession. BUT…I cannot find anything! And that is why I am emailing you in my hour of need, what do you recommend I read to recover from Christian Grey?”
Broco: “Do you have a what to read after Fifty Shades? Please say yes. :)”
Leanne: “I just finished up theΒ Fifty shades trilogy (LOVE LOVE LOVE) and was looking through your lists for what to read next.”
Yep. We really need it! I have a need to collect as many “Fifty-type” reads as I can. But how to organize them? My favorites? Similar genres? What comes closest? And we all know once we’ve read something so enthralling, so exciting and so captivating, all we want is to continue that reading-buzz. And while “re-reading” the books can sure help, how awesome would it be to have a long, “almost-as-good” if not “just-as-good” list to choose from, instead? I’ve seen a few other “Fifty” lists out there, but I find that they highlight primarily the BDSM or erotica genre, and perhaps to some readers, this is what the focus was to them.
I didn’t read the books that way. Sure, there was plenty of that, but there was so much more and it was the “more“ that hooked me, and so many fellow readers. And that’s the list I’m trying to generate now.
But you know what? I’m not officially *there* yet. I’ve read a bunch that I’ve found, and some that have been recommended, that are similar in feel, or in theme, or have that certain “alternative lifestyle” element to it. But none (except for one, in my opinion) have been perfect for this list. But for now, they will make it on. This will be a serious work in progress. I will be adding to on a regular basis each time I find *something* (anything) that feels Fiftyish.
So instead of just sitting on the project, and thinking about it, I’ve decided to get it started! I’m throwing out some positive “Fifty” vibes and hoping to get some great responses to make theΒ perfect “Fifty-esque” list. And for those of you who haven’t read the Fifty Shades Trilogy and are curious… here is the reading order guideΒ and my reviews of each book.

The Perfect “What to Read After Fifty” Book!!
Bared to You: A Crossfire NovelΒ by Sylvia Day
First I’m going to absolutely highlight THE book that has come closest, for me, in feel, in theme and in intensity as Fifty Shades of Grey and that would be Sylvia Day’s Bared to You. ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite books, and exactly what I was looking for as the perfect book suggestion for “What to Read After Fifty.”
An emotionally unavailable hunky billionaire (with a torrid past) that is absolutely taken with a beautiful woman. And both of their worlds are turned upside-down while they struggle with the the changes each must make to “fit” into this intense love affair. Oh. And it’s steamy as all get-out! Check out my book review: Book Review β Bared to You byΒ Sylvia Day
BTW: THIS is the old cover ———>
Also!! This is now a trilogy – Crossfire SeriesΒ (and book #2 has just been released: Book Review β Reflected In You byΒ Sylvia Day). Fantastic series so far!
Similar Themed Books (Rich unemotional millionaire attempts to control relationship, and his emotional connection, through a contract)
Unsticky by Sarra Manning
Only available (at least in the US) in used/print version, and I believe they are shipped directly from England. But I absolutely had to read it (after so many “he’s like Fifty” nudges, so I ordered. Overall, a good read and certainly reminiscent of Fifty, at least in terms of the control issues, and the occasional absurd bossy reactions and unemotional (and emotional) responses. The hero in this one… mostly infuriating!! I enjoyed this book because of the “contract” with a younger, more influence-able beauty that captivates him, and certainly could benefit from his financial proposal. Time limited relationship (for public appearances) and personal interactions too, but… without the attachment. But you know how that goes…. This one showed a whole lot more resistance then a few other similar books, and despite at times, dragging a little, overall, glad to have read and experienced the issues. Check out my review here:Β Book Review β Unsticky byΒ Sarra Manning
The Marriage BargainΒ book #1 – by Jennifer Probst (This is now a series! —>Β Marriage To A Billionaire Series Reading Order)
A very sweet (and occasionally steamy) read. Not the perfect Fifty feel, but the situation was similar. Rich bachelor not looking for love needs to get married for his inheritance, and he decides to enter into a contract with his sister’s best friend. They have a history, and pretty much can’t stand each other, although the attraction is undeniable. And what he can provide for her financially, she can provide for him emotionally… IF they let each other. Check out my review here:Β Book Review β The Marriage Bargain byΒ Jennifer Probst
Gabriel’s Inferno (Gabriel’s Inferno Series)Β byΒ Sylvain Reynard
I hesitate just a touch, with this one only because I was somewhat disappointed with the last part of the book. But overall… I have to admit, I was able to recognize a bit (or even a lot) of “Christian” in “Gabriel”. This one may not have a contract involved, but certainly has similarities. A distinguished, handsome, and super-rich bossy professor that finds himself attracted to a younger, much more vulnerable student. His position of power, University regulations, and even their “past” haunt them and provide the tension and angst that I so often crave in these kinds of books. Despite this book proving a bit controversial in the “love it/don’t love it” category (with my fellow readers), there is no denying that it has the right “feel” for many of those looking for more “Fifty-like” reads. (my Book Review β Gabrielβs Inferno byΒ Sylvain Renard).
Also check out book #2 in the series (just released):Β Gabriel’s RaptureΒ (plus a 3rd book to come!)
If I Were YouΒ by Lisa Renee Jones (book #1 of The Inside Out Trilogy)
Not “contract-specific”… although, sort of π but definitely has that “Bared to You/Fifty Shades” feel. Talented young woman that captures the eye of not one, but TWO wealthy men (both, seemingly emotionally distant) and both with HUGE control issues. Namely, her. She works for one, in a prestigious museum (therein lies the “contract”) and associates with one of the artists. Plus there’s a huge mystery to solve (along with trying to solve the mystery of these men). Good stuff, two more to come! Others have suggested it as a book to put on this list, and I agree!Β Check out myΒ Book Review
Galit: “… If I Were You by LisaΒ ReneeΒ Jones.Β It is a trilogy and but only the first book has been released. No contract thus far but definitely reminded me of 50.”
Heather: “I highly recommend adding “If I Were You” the first book in the inside out trilogy by LisaΒ ReneeΒ Jones…seriously best thing I have read since fifty!! Cannot wait for the next book to come out!!! Β Love your blog thanks for all the great recommendations!”
Taken (Give and Take)Β by Kelli Maine
Interested in a wealthy unattainable millionaire/billionaire with an uncontrollable “obsession” for that one “sweet/normal” girl, are you? Well here you go! This one had me from the start, because the circumstances were dire. At first, scary, and over-the-top. This wealthy, and gorgeous man would not take no for an answer. Offering the job opportunity of a lifetime to the perfect candidate for his company, and even more… for his heart. And when she had to turn him down for personal reasons (even though it was HER dream, too), he took matters into his own hands. How? Simple. Take a look at that title. *nods* Yep! It’s got a bit of an “eeeeep” factor, that’s for sure! No contract needed for this one, because I’m sort of getting that… he’s not going to take no for an answer.
And despite my trepidation. Despite my being appalled by his actions at first, when the story got going, I struggled with the fact that I simply couldn’t resist him. The author presents a different writing style, for sure (the heroine’s voice, the way she narrates the story, is not one we see often via this perspective), but I was absolutely “Taken”. Check out myΒ Book ReviewΒ here (and there is a fantastic little novella right after! “No Take Backs: A Taken Novella). And then… yep! More coming in this series. Give and Take Series Reading OrderΒ —> I’mΒ excited!
On Dublin StreetΒ by Samantha Young
No contract involved, but a heart that won’t let anyone in. And this time, it’s not the billionaire. It’s the heroine! A sweet and funny read but with intense moments of deep emotion, and a gorgeous alpha billionaire that won’t take no for an answer. Check out myΒ Book Review.
Brooke suggested it for this list, too!: “I just finished On Dublin Street by Samantha Young and it was fabulous. No BDSM but still a great read. I am disappointed that thereβs not another book to follow it as of yet. I have also read Bared to You and Beautiful Disaster and this book was right up there!”
Naked (The Blackstone Affair, Part 1)Β by Raine Miller. Recommended for this list by Barbara:”I just finished Naked by Raine Miller, itβs one of a continuing story line but it is awesome. It reminds me a lot of 50 Shades but mostly like Bared to You. Only thing is itβs a novella and a quick read but good none the less”.
Sidenote by Maryse—> Yep! Perfect recommendation, and definitely a “Bared to You” feel, but perfect for this list. My only hesitation was that it will consist of 3 short installments to complete the storyline, and installment #1 is the only part that has been released, so far. So we’re suffering a bit… π Here is the reading order guide + I mini-reviewed the first book, there, too —>Β Raine Miller β The Blackstone Affair Series Reading Order
BDSM Themed Books (and this is a stretch, because as much as I enjoyed the lighter BDSM elements in the Fifty shades trilogy, it really wasn’t about that. It was about healing, trust and emotional growth). But… then again… some of these BDSM erotica novels certainly have a “trust” theme that eventually forges an emotional/love connection, so… why not? Plus, if the BDSM elements in Fifty intrigued you, maybe this small “alternative” lifestyle Β exploration will be just what you need! Beware… these can get pretty addictive, in fact, I’ve been wondering if perhaps I’m overloading on these as I had a funny reaction a few days ago. I shared it with my Facebook crew:
Maryse’s Book Blog: Ohhhh I think I’m reading too many *ahem* “alternative” books these days. It’s bad when I see a “submit” button and I immediately think something else. LOL!
*blush*
Comfort Object (Comfort series) by Annabel Joseph
Beware with this one… I’m not recommending it to just everyone. Nope. While the “contract” was similar (rich famous actor meets young waitress and decides to “hire” her to become his public girlfriend) his contract includes a much harder edge to it for their personal interactions. A much harder version of the BDSM lifestyle then what you’ll find in Fifty. And this Dom took discipline to a whole other level. Some of my fellow readers loved it, and some… did not. Eeeeeeep!! This guy could be downrightΒ hateful at times. Even some of my friends that enjoy reading this type of erotica took serious issue with this “hero”. I’m nervous adding it to this list, but the “theme” is undeniably similar to the Fifty lifestyle in terms of the contract & D/s relationship. But again. This one is full-on BDSM and this guy can play some serious head-games. I would not recommend to everyone… just to those that are interested in reading a book that explores a much harder edge to this alternative lifestyle. There are a few scenes that are permanently burned into my brain that still have me wincing (and not just the pain aspect…). You have been warned! Oh P.S.!!! This *does* have that angsty heartache emotional connection/resistance thing going on. That’s always fun!! Check out my review here:Β Book Review β Comfort Object byΒ Annabel Joseph
The Reluctant DomΒ by Tymber Dalton
While the storyline is not *quite* Fifty Shades, it does feature an intense romantic relationship, involving a “vanilla” character and the BDSM lifestyle. This one will bring you to tears. Absolutely. It made my “Books that Made Me Cry” list (and there aren’t that many on there). Check out my review here: Book Review β The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton
Club Shadowlands [Masters of the Shadowlands 1] by Cherise Sinclair
More “vanilla” meets BDSM with an intense connection as the story progresses. Ahhhhh *love* even between two unlikely partners is so much fun to explore. Just ask the heroine. π These are on the fluffier, lighter side of the alternative romance spectrum (not hugely angsty or anything, although it does have it’s moments). Still though, it had enough *oomph* to capture me. I love when the characters get in way over their heads, but their hearts won’t let them fully back out. This one is like that. Check out my book review here: Book Review β Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair
Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5)
Vishous may be be a vampire, but he is a perfect addition to this list.Β Okay, admittedly, the BDSM aspect is pretty light in this book, but it IS a major part of this hero’s world. His lifestyle, preference and attitude oozes Dom. Alpha male, strong, rich, highly intelligent, and controlled in all aspects, but he looses his control when he falls for a human female doctor (kidnaps her and brings her to their compound) and keeps her for himself. This is one of the STEAMIEST (and most intense, emotionally speaking) books I’ve read, and when things start coming together for these two, his Dom to her sub will rock your world. Oh and. You’ll probably cry. Excellent, fulfilling read, and one of my all time favorites! Check out myΒ Book Review β βLover Unboundβ byΒ J.R. Ward
Books Similar in Intensity Β (these do not resemble it in “story” but addicted us through a similar amount of tension and angst)
ThoughtlessΒ AND EffortlessΒ by S.C. Stephens
You’ll be torn the entire way….this is not a “usual” romance read as it has a realistic selfish love aspect to it that is fleshed-out, no holds barred. You’ll be cringing and swooning, and cringing, and growling, falling in love, and having your heart smashed to bits (for a few different characters) all the way through. If you want terrible angst and angry emotions and deep deep love then Thoughtless is probably for you.Your heart will not be able to take the angsty turmoil, but it is exactly that feeling that many of us love, in a book, isn’t it? These’ll do that. Check out my review
Dream Man Series by Kristen Ashley
So you like rich, bossy, mysterious men, with *rough* pasts, do you? How did I know? hehe This series will take you along that similar path. From a lethal, razor sharp commando, to sexy detectives, to a biker gang leader that instills fear in everyone, this series has a bit of everything that we love. My two favorites, hands-down, are Mystery Man (book #1) and Motorcycle Man (book #4). These are best read in order (and my fellow readers swoon for all of them), however I didn’t read them in order. As long as you have book #1 under your belt, you can certainly jump to #4 and not lose anything from the story. In fact at the end of book #1, I desperately wanted to read “Tack’s” book right after (which is #4). Check out my review of Mystery Man and Motorcycle Man.
Beautiful DisasterΒ by Jamie McGuire
I can’t help it. I HAVE to include this. This is yet another book that made me absolutely crazy in love, in agitation, in excitement. Oh yes. PLENTY of excitement. This story is not at all like Fifty Shades, but it does have a bossy, arrogant, strong, gorgeous hero that becomes overwrought with his love for a fellow college student (that is certainly not his “usual” type). His life changes once she enters it, and the journey to self-discovery that they are both forced to travel (or more like a roller coaster ride) absolutely gave me THAT feeling. To me, it belongs and continues to be one of my #1 favorite books forever. Check out my Book Review β Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
More to come… still working on adding to this section…
Books steeped in a “darker/moodier feel” of romance/eroticaΒ (by way of emotional pain/guilt, healing & trust – “poignant” books)
Dirty by Megan HartΒ andΒ BrokenΒ by Megan Hart
I’ve read many of this author’s books, and absolutely loved them, but I didn’t necessarily connect them as “What to Read After Fifty”. Because while highly erotic, they aren’t “BDSM” themed, the heroes aren’t necessarily “alpha males” and and these are not your “traditional” romance novels.Β But after receiving numerous recommendations to put Megan Hart’s books on this list I’d have to say, I agree!
Because while these aren’t all out “romance” novels, chances are you’ll still fall in love. Just… slowly. Like the heroine, it might take you some time to *get there*. They are deeply poignant, gritty and raw, and you will face some uncomfortable moments. They certainly make the reader think. Best of all, there are some *gasp* worthy moments that you didn’t see coming, and even some swoon-worthy ones, too. They might not always be tied up neatly in a “bow”, but I have found them uniquely beautiful, wonderful to unwrap, explore and reflect on.Β Check out my book reviews of the first two (the ones that addicted me to this unique genre), and then check out the Megan Hart β Dirty / Broken Series Reading OrderΒ :
Reader Suggestions – Β (and books I found online that suggested a “Fifty Shades” feel in the reviews). PLEASE NOTE: I have not read most of these yet, so I can’t confirm for sure how “Fifty” they actually are, in my own opinion, but considering how so many of us have similar “book tastes” I am very excited to give these a try!
However I’d love to hear if you’ve already read them and what you think in terms of the “Fifty” comparisons…
Send your suggestions (either below in the comments section, or to me here), while I sort through the ones I’ve already received so that I may add them to this section.
This Man (This Man Trilogy)Β by Jodi Ellen Malpas <— recommended by Mercy: “The This Man series by Jodi Ellen Malpas is incredible. Β You will fall in Love with Jesse Ward. Β It is a series of three books. Β Definitely equal toΒ FiftyΒ Shades.” and Jamie says: “After reading the “This Man Trilogy, I can’t even remember what FSOG was about! I never would’ve known about trilogy if it wasn’t for this blog- Love this blog!” Leila says the same! ”Β Leila recommends this one! “This Man is amazing!! Jesse Ward (the protagonist) is soooo Hot and heβs full of secrets and surprises and the novel has a very good plot along with numerous steamy hot scenes. He had me hooked from start to finish. MUST READ!!”band Carol agrees: “I preferred Jesse to Christianβ¦β¦”Β (P.S. Here is theΒ This Man Trilogy Reading Order)
Driven (The Driven Trilogy)Β by K. Bromberg <– Mercy also recommends these for a great option. “Fueled and Driven by K Bromberg are excellent books too. Anxiously waiting for the third book.” and Elaine says: “omg omg just absolute mind blowing i thought id never read anything more mind blowing thanΒ fiftyΒ shadesΒ but hey riley and colton omg what a story HOT HOT HOT when is crashed out so excited and cant wait x” <—Β I’ve started book #1 and can definitely feel the Fifty “feel”. π Here is theΒ The Driven Trilogy Reading Order
Fire After Dark: After Dark Book 1Β by Sadie Matthews <— Andy suggests these: “Another for theΒ FIFTYΒ list:
“The after dark trilogy by Sadie MatthewsΒ Pleasure & pain go hand in hand.
Actually some of the thinking process used by the main female character Beth reminded me a little of the angst I felt from Kiera decioning/indecisioning from the thoughtless series except this series is more BDSM themed (not in the same league though re the relationship triangle complexities of Thoughtless just to be clear on expectations, but a very good read kept me hooked all the same couldn’t put it down)” and Meme agrees: “I Β finished reading fire after dark and secrets after dark by Sadie Mathews – I enjoyed it.”
In Flight (Up In The Air #1)Β by R.K. Lilley <— Susie recommends these saying: “I have to recommend The “Up In The Air” Trilogy by R.K. Lilley. The main characters are James Cavendish :Rich billionaire hotel heir and Bianca: A Flight attendant. These books have BDSM, love and will even bring tears to your eyes.” and Dorothy agrees saying: “James Cavendish fast became my next Christian Grey.”Β P.S. Here is theΒ Up in the Air Series Reading Order
Anything He WantsΒ by Sara Fawkes <— Patricia highly recommends these: “Anything He Wants by Sara Fawkes is a great read to continue theΒ FiftyΒ ShadesΒ feal. Lucy Delacourt makes sure she gets on the elevator at work at the same time as a gorgeous stranger that works in the same building as she does. After several weeks of secretly watching him she finds herself alone with him in the elevator. Things get hot fast and he turns out to be the owner of the company. This book has BDSM scenes but likeΒ FiftyΒ ShadesΒ it has way more to it. This novel started out as a kindle mini series and turned in to a novel last fall. The hero, Jeremiah Hamilton, also has an outcast brother, Lucas, who tugs at your heart from the first time he appears in the the book. There is isaalso a sequel being written as a mini series now. Anything He Wants, Castaway. Β I’m trying to wait till it’s finished later this year but I don’t think I can. Read them both. You won’t be disappointed.”
Forty Shades of Pearl (Part One of The Pearl Trilogy)Β byΒ Arianne Richmonde. Recommended by Cherise: “I have a book suggestion that I havenβt seen mentioned yet. Itβs called 40 Shades of Pearl by Arianne Richmonde. Itβs available on e-readers but not sure if itβs in print yet. Itβs a good steamy read with the alpha male thing & heβs younger than the heroine.”
For His PleasureΒ by Kelly Favor: Rebecca brought this one to my attention: “I just spent 3 days engrossed with all 9 Kelly Favor “ForΒ HisΒ Pleasure” books. Most were short but none the less with the steamy stuff and the heart break and the hot guy billionaire.” —>Β For His Pleasure Series Reading Order
Brie’s First Day of Submissive Training (Brie, #1)Β by Red Phoenix: Tanna says: “Red Phoenixβs Brie series practically ruined 50 Shades for me. Just sayin. It was so much hotter than hot. Intensely sexy” and Mandi agrees! “I loved Red Phoenix! Her Brie series is AWESOME!! And for those that may not be aware, she continued the series!!! Check out the After Graduation Series, thereβs 4 out now and number 5 is due out tomorrow or Sunday! I canβt wait! They are just as awesome, *squee*”
The Proviso (Tales of Dunham)Β byΒ Moriah Jovan: Recommended by Kirac: “I highly recommend The Proviso (Tales of Dunham) by Moriah Jovan. Itβs an insanely long book which adds greatly to its depth of exposition with the characters, but in now way does it drag. I really want to hype this author because her writing shows such intelligence and uniqueness. Sheβs self-published and edited, but I swear it is so professionally put together you cannot tell… The novel centers around 3 couples, but the intensity and angst evoke that Fiftyish vibe. Really a great book that more people should check out.”
Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet: Book 1)Β by CJ Roberts: Recommended by Shary: “I was lost after FSOG until I found a duet written by CJ Roberts. This woman is amazing! You have to read Captive in the dark and the second book Seduced in the dark. Iβve read both books twice and have not been able to get the main characters out of my head.”
“Eightyfive” agrees, saying: “I highly recommend the duet series before you know Caleb will be replacing Christian in the top 5 fantasy men.”Β (SIDENOTE from Maryse: I DID enjoy both of these books and have reviewed them. I was “iffy” about suggesting them as an “After 50 Shades” read, since these are VERY dark (I’d say more likeΒ “Dark thrillers with a romance edge”). And while most of the BDSM books we’ve read are “consensual”, the “Dark Duet” blurs and completely erases those “lines”. For more details, check out my reviews:Β Book Review β Captive in the DarkΒ &Β Book Review β Seduced in the Dark
JACKED (Tied with a Bow): recommended by kvictoriasmith: “Jacked by Raven Morrisβ¦an ink boiler.” <— (as per the day this was posted, the “short story” is free right now)
The Burn ListΒ by Julia DevlinΒ (recommended by Carole):Β “I would add The Burn List by Julia Devlin. Β It’s a bit more quirky and less emotionally intense than 50, but worth the time :)”
Masters at Arms (Rescue Me)Β by Kallypso Masters (recommended by Carole):Β “As far as the sugar-kink/BDSM Β thing I would suggest the Masters At Arms series by Kallypso Masters . Β Great male and female leads, wonderful stories, and smile worthy HEAs :)” (Check out theΒ Rescue Me Series Reading Order)
Letting Go (Siren Publishing)Β by Michele Zurlo (recommended byΒ Sharona):Β “Another book that is Fifty Shadish is “Letting Go” Β by Michele Zurlo. Β This is book one in her award winning series called “The Awakenings”. Β These books do push the limits that I don’t normally enjoy, but the stories are great, Β the characters are endearing and the love related angst is pretty intense.” (side note from Maryse: sure enough, I’ve already seen the words “Fifty Shades” in reviews for this book…)
Knight (The Unfinished Hero Series)Β by Kristen Ashley (recommended by Kathy):Β “”Knight” by Kristen Ashley had me hooked from the very first page with the story line and the anti-hero. Β *BIG WARNING on that one for graphic content (not as much BDSM, but the imagery…wow) and language (Oh! WOW).” – side note from Maryse: I have read this, and while it wasn’t one of my favorites in Kristen Ashley’s repertoire, many did love it and I did recognize a “Fifty” feel every once in awhile.
Floor Time (Book #1 in the Stewart Realty Series)Β by Liz Crowe (recommended by Denise): “I LOVED the Realtors Series by Liz CroweΒ Though Jack is more frustrating than Christian, I liked Sara so much more than Ana.” —> Here is theΒ Stewart Realty Series Reading Order.
Crash Into YouΒ by Roni Loren (recommended by Barbara): “”Crash into You” by Roni Loren. Β It was published Jan 2012. Β It gives a relationship, but the main heroine is going undercover into a BDSM lifestyle to find her sister. Β An old flame has decided to help her out by infiltrating with the Doms. Β It is a good read, and will have a sequel by this author.” —>Β Loving On the Edge Series Reading Order

His Sugar Baby (Siren Publishing Allure) by Sarah Roberts (recommended by Jodi): “His Sugar Baby by Sarah Roberts – Fiftyish but also alot like Unsticky but more angsty! :)”
The Vampire Queen’s ServantΒ by Joey W. Hill (recommended by Kathryn): “…Β also liked the Vampire Queen series by Joey w. Hill for the BDSM theme as well.”
Ice Queen (Nature of Desire, Book Three)Β byΒ Joey W. Hill (recommended by Mala): “Since youβve mentioned Joey W Hill , i would recommend Ice Queen and Mirror of my Soul. Although you should know they are very difficult to read β way too hardcore . I actually had to skip a lot of pages to continue . Anyway , the love story is amazing.”
Black ButterflyΒ byΒ Sienna Mynx (recommended by Shannon): “Black Butterfly by Sienna Mynx is similar to 50 shades, not as good as it or Bared to you but I really enjoyed it.Β It has an overbearing rich guy just like Christian who falls for a ballet dancer the first time he sees her but she has issues with his past of how many women hes been with and how possessive he is.Β Anyway I think it is a good one to add to your list and if you haven’t read it you definitely should :)”
The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (Sleeping Beauty Trilogy)Β by Anne Rice (recommended by Kriste): “Some older books, but well worth the read are Anne Riceβs Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (Very erotic) and Exit to Eden.” AND recommended by Mandi: “WAY SEXY! And I read it years before 50 ever came out and I have always LOVED it! ***WARNING*** this series is SERIOUS eroticism, way more than normal BDSM books and should be read only by those with an open mind who are not easily offended LOLβ¦β¦”
Hostile Takeover (Knights of the Board Room)Β by Joey W. Hill (recommended by Nicole): “Try out Hostile Takeover by Joey Hill. Its not a βlightβ as 50, but it has complex characters and a wonderful storyline.”
Wicked TiesΒ by Shayla Black (and the series) (as recommended by Spencer Nikol): “Not sure if anyone had recommended these but they are hot! Shayla Black Wicked Ties Series. The first couple of books have some βsharingβ if you know what I mean, but their all based around the bdsm stuff. But let me tell you, once you get to Surrender To Me and Belong To Me. OMG!”
On Demand (Black Lace)Β byΒ Justine Elyot (as recommended by Catrina): “I did read a good book called on demand which is a black lace book. Now although heavily sexy and bdsm it was very well written, I did find myself giggling, and toasting champagne with my inner goddess for some of the you go girl moments! Itβs a collection of short stories all set in a hotel and centred around/told by the protagonist Sophie.”
Becoming sage (The Keyhole Series)Β byΒ Kasi Alexander (as recommended by marijee): “I have a BDSM recommendation: Becoming Sage by Kasi Alexander. I thought the book was well written and the characters well defined.”
DirtyΒ andΒ BrokenΒ by Megan Hart (as recommended byΒ Craftyjulz): “I went ahead with Broken and then Dirty Β about 2 months ago. Wow! Talk about emotional depth & turmoil. And then here comes Fifty! Double Wow! Thank you for gathering this list. Itβs the depth & angst, as you call it, that bring these books past just something to get your body to purr, into something thatβs body, brain, & heart stirring. Am I expressing that right?”
The Siren (The Original Sinners)Β by Tiffany Reisz (as recommended by Patty): “Loved it!!! Well written, great character development and a interesting story to boot…” <—- sidenote from Maryse: I agree, good recommendation. While it didn’t grab me, emotionally as Fifty Shades did, it did had it’s own dark elements of hurt, healing, growth and love (in it’s “own” way). Oh and of course elements of BDSM. There’s more to come in this series, so maybe as time goes on I will “fall” for it.
Forbidden Pleasure (Bound Hearts, Book 8)Β by Lora Leigh (as recommended by Brandi): “I would also suggest Forbidden Pleasures. Mac and Jethro are so hot. Swoon worthy definitely”Β Β Jennifer recommends the whole series! —>Β Bound Hearts Series Reading Order
The Initiation of Ms HollyΒ by K D Grace (as recommended by lynn): “hi my suggestion for your erotica list is βthe initiation of Ms Hollyβ by k d graceβ¦β¦itβs very naughty xx”
LATEST “What to Read After 50 Shades” add-ons!! (09-05-2015)
- Hacker SeriesΒ by Meredith WildΒ <—Β Lise recommends this one! “This series is similar to 50 Shades but much more erotic and I didnβt see it on your list, you should read it. The fifth book is coming out Sept. 15th. βThe Hacker Seriesβ by Meredith Wild. You wont be disappointed!” and Isa agrees!! “So glad I found this site. I just got done reading βThe Hackers seriesβ by Meredith Wild after reading FSOG and I am hooked. Similar to FSOG but with a deeper story line to it.“
- Quantum TrilogyΒ by M.S. Force <—Β Sharon says this one! “Marie Force just released her first erotic trilogy under the name M S Force. It is the Quantam trilogy. Excellent read.”
- Up in the Air Series Reading OrderΒ by R.K. Lilley <—Β Jessie loved this one (and I should say the majority of our fellow readers!!) LOL! She says: “I have a recommendation for a series that I read after the Fifty Shades trilogy that havenβt been mentioned yet. The series is called βUp In The Airβ and its a trilogy that has a spin off trilogy called βTristan and Danikaβ that features the other two main characters that left the readers hanging on what happened between them. There is also a novella called βLanaβ for another main character that explains her story too. The series is a really good book to read after Fifty Shades because it does contain BDSM in it as well as a control freak billionaire that falls for a not as well of beautiful woman. The two main characters both have troubling pasts that raise conflicts like Fifty. It took me on the same emotional roller coaster as Fifty Shades did and I think thatβs why itβs so good! The trilogy of Tristan and Danika, in my opinion, was even better and more emotional than Up In The Air, trilogy. I highly recommend these books they remind me so much of Fifty Shades that I sometimes get them mixed up! They are totally worth the time and money of buying and reading them! Theyβre both available in paper and ebook.” and Leila agrees! “R.K. Lilley is really good. Her Up in the Air Series is a MUST READ!!”
- Stark TrilogyΒ byΒ J. KennerΒ <—Β Leila also recommends this one! “Another series I would recommend is the Stark Trilogy by J. Kenner. Its first book is Release me. The book is really hot, has BDSM and is full of steamy scenes and Damien Stark is just wow!” Liz liked it! “The Stark Trilogy by J. Kenner is quite good”Β and Irish agrees! “Itβs definitely along the lines of fifty, bared to you, and the in flight series by Lilley.”
- Fixed TrilogyΒ by Laurelin PaigeΒ <—Β Krisztina likes these! “I just finished the Fixed trilogy by Laurelin Paige.Β I have to say that I was reading the 2. half of forever with you with tears in my eyes β¦ now I am obsessed with Hudson PierceΒ Β I can recommend it only . I am sorry if my english isnβt perfect (Iβm hungarian)Β “
- All or Nothing SeriesΒ by C.C. Gibbs <—Β Sonja is loving this one! “Check out the series from C C Gibbs. 1) Knights mistress 2) all he needs.3) all he desires. Theres also Game night another book.I started on knights mistress and im hooked from page 4 awesome” and Calla agrees! “Donβt forget CC Gibbs books! Much better written than 50 shades!”Β (sidenote from Maryse: You’re probably wondering why the book titles don’t match up to Sonja’s suggestion. It’s ’cause in the UK they are titled per Sonja’s list, but in the US, the publisher changed the title to this one. π Same books though!)
- The Game Maker (The Professional) SeriesΒ byΒ Kresley ColeΒ <—Β Dione says this one! “The Professional by Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark) β If you LOVED Fifty, you WILL love this.”
- The Marketplace SeriesΒ byΒ Laura AntoniouΒ <—Β Hydrun recommends this one! “The best BDSM series by far (way better than fifty shades but also a lot more intense) is The Marketplace Series by Laura Antoniou. Currently there are 5 books but the 6th is approaching publication.”
- Never Understand – Johnthen Trent TrilogyΒ byΒ Miranda Mailer <—Β Summer recommends these! “My latest fave is Miranda Mailer. I read the 3 Never Understand books and then went straight on to the Dark Dreams Trilogy. These are hot, believable characters, delicious alpha males who are totally in control. Beth Kery and the crossfire books are also required reading, although the Miranda Mailerβs story lines are much better.”
- The Original SinnersΒ byΒ Tiffany ReiszΒ <—Β Robina (and SOOOOO MANY) HIGHLY recommend this one! “Oh my gosh ladies, I only saw 1 post for The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz here. I absolutely loved fifty shades and the series was my first real erotica read, however, I would choose the original sinners series over fifty shades any day nowβ¦..amazing story line that jumps backwards and forwards through the series, emotion, a lot of BDSM, great characters and although some of the story line is close to the edge, discovering why the characters are who they are is fascinating. Tiffany Reisz is an awesome writer!”
- Interview with a MasterΒ by Jason Luke <—Β Patricia loved this one! “I just read βInterview with a Masterβ OH. MY. GOD! Canβt wait for the sequel to come out! ITβS A MUST READ!!”
- Honor Series SeriesΒ byΒ Teresa Mummert <—Β Rachal says this is a must read! “I just finished reading the Honor series by Teresa Mummert, well finished until she releases book 4-6, and it was great. At least I think so. it has the same feel as fifty, except the dom(Wiliam) is a teacher and the sub(Emma) is/was one of his students. Iβve seen other reviews on the book and others absolutly hated it, but I find myself finishing the books in a day or so. I believe itβs an absolutly must read.”
- Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark Book 1)Β by Pepper Winters <—Β Linda suggests this one (although it’s definitely “darker”) “Love tears of Tess & Q by pepper winters”
- Consequences SeriesΒ by Aleatha Romig <—Β Emily INSISTS!!! “I can NOT recommend anything BEFORE The Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig! It is the most mind boggling, dark, thriller, romance, surprising twists I have ever read! I an 51 years old and trust me, I have read thousands of books in my lifetime. This trilogy rates in my top 3 all time favorite series. She recently released the first companion book to be read only after you read the series because it will give secrets away. This is a MUST read for sure. Be warned, the first is very dark and you may want to stop, I did. Please donβt and you will be rewarded with some of the best written stories ever! Enjoy and after you do let me know what you think.” (my book review of book #1)
- The Knight TrilogyΒ by Kitty French <—Β Patricia says this one fits! “I just read Knight & Play & Knight & Stay by Kitty French. Very good read in keeping with the Fifty Shades theme. Lucien Knight owns Adult clubs and Sophie interviews and lands the job of his PA. The story gets hot fast. Good story line, a lot of angst and great intense chemistry. I just started reading the third book which takes up the story of Sophieβs best friend Kara and Dylan Day in Knight & Day. If itβs half as good as the first two books, Iβll be well pleased.”
- The Dark Garden: A NovelΒ by Eden Bradley <—Β Saki says: “If you liked Club Shadowlands, try the Dark Garden by Eden Bradley. It is a nice blend of romance, hot alpha, and sweet vanilla being introduced to ..erm.. more intense things”
- HIGH (The Indigo Lounge Series Book 1)Β by Zara Cox <—Β Holly found us this one! “Iβve just finished reading βhighβ by Zara Coxβ¦. would definitely recommend. Hot millionaire meets woman (who isnβt annoying, yay!) when she is about to board one of his luxury βadultβ private jets. Sparks fly and he has a dark secretβ¦.”
- Secret TrilogyΒ byΒ L. Marie Adeline <—Β And this is Shebang’s recommendation! “S.E.C.R.E.T. and Secret Shared by L. Marie Adeline. …Need to find the finances to create this βsecretβ society! Pure genius!”
- The Heart Has Reasons (A romantic-suspense thriller)Β byΒ Martine MarchandΒ <—Β Guisep says: “If you liked Fifty Shades β Youβll LOVE The Heart Has Reasons by Martine Marchand! Her first book and itβs solid gold.”
- Fire After Dark: After Dark Book 1Β byΒ Sadie MatthewsΒ <—Β Oh and look at this one that Andy loved! “The after dark trilogy by Sadie MatthewsΒ Pleasure & pain go hand in hand.Β Actually some of the thinking process used by the main female character Beth reminded me a little of the angst I felt from Kiera decioning/indecisioning from the thoughtless series except this series is more BDSM themed (not in the same league though re the relationship triangle complexities of Thoughtless just to be clear on expectations, but a very good read kept me hooked all the same”
- Collide: Book One in the Collide SeriesΒ by Gail McHugh <—Β Vanessa loved it (so did I!!) “Just finished read a series by Gail McHugh, Collide andΒ Pulse. Love, Love, Loved!!! Gavin Blake is by far my favorite book guy!!! beautiful love story!!! itβs a must read!!!!” (my book review)
- The Mitchell Family SeriesΒ byΒ Jennifer FoorΒ <—Β And Stacey says this one! “Iβve done a lot of reading and have to toss out some of the series I have read the Mitchell family series by Jennifer foor it has 7 books”
- His Perfect SubmissiveΒ byΒ Alyssa AaronΒ <—Β Cece recommends this one! “His Perfect Submissive Alyssa Aaron It is similar to 50 Shades in the way blends traditional Romance story with a little bit of BDSM.”
Marcia has a bunch of recommendations for us! She says: “I read some books that have a compelling storyline and light bdsm feel to them I feel should be added. I looked through this list and didnβt see many of them.
- C D Reiss Songs of Submission SeriesΒ andΒ The Corruption Series
- Melody AnneΒ Surrender Series
- Pamela Ann (so far anything she writes) but definitely the Chasing Beautiful SeriesΒ andΒ Torn Series
and the books that go a little further into BDSM
- Tara Sue MeΒ The Submissive Trilogy
- Sierra CartwrightΒ MasteredΒ Series”
“I have been reading some of your posts. Crossfire series by Sylvia Day is pretty good. If you are into the big time erotica I suggest Maya Banks-Β Colters’ Legacy or Amber Eyes (Wild Book 1). Another series is the Men in Blue SeriesΒ by Jayne Rylon. The New York SeriesΒ by Lainey Reese. Hope this helps to satisfy the after 50 craving.”
I also have before and after FSOG books!
I just love the βSweet Surrender Seriesβ and βThe Breathless Trilogyβ by Maya Banks and the βWicked Lovers Seriesβ by Shayla Black. Most of those books have BSDM and all books have love and a HEA.
Check out my other “favorites” lists:
Just about anything from Annabel Joseph is amazing. She absolutely pushes the limits, but in an amazing way π
Anyway, what to read after 50…well… we all know if you’re looking for Alpha you look no further than Kristen Ashley. Honestly, they don’t come any hotter or more alpha than those guys. Ah, Ty. *Swoon*
But from what I’ve read recently I would add The Burn List by Julia Devlin. It’s a bit more quirky and less emotionally intense than 50, but worth the time π
As far as the sugar-kink/BDSM thing I would suggest the Masters At Arms series by Kallypso Masters . Great male and female leads, wonderful stories, and smile worthy HEAs π
I’m sure I’m forgetting a boatload at the moment, if I can think of anymore I’ll add them.
Another book that is Fifty Shadish is “Letting Go” by Michele Zurlo. This is book one in her award winning series called “The Awakenings”. These books do push the limits that I don’t normally enjoy, but the stories are great, the characters are endearing and the love related angst is pretty intense.
Yeah i’m with Lucy. Before and after 50. hehehe
Well I wish i could help you. Although i read great books this year (after 50) i still didn’t find the one, just like you and thanks to you i came pretty close with bared to you. But that’s the only one. To be honest now, my only hope is to wait for the next E.L James. Maybe it’s going to be just as good as 50 shades.
But for now, i’m still living in agony. hahahaha
But check out that Knigh book by Kristen Ashley. It’s with all this BDSM thing and romance of course. But i didn’t like it because of the characters. But a lot of people did. It’s not 50 shades but… it’s romance and there is BDSM so well maybe can help someone, right!?
Like you, I was more entranced by the story line in “Fifty.” Oh! The feelings that trilogy brought out in me – I laughed, I cried, I angered, I hurt, I … ahem … I’m in a definite conundrum of what to read after “Fifty.” “Bared to You” – loved, loved, loved it! – ALMOST hit the mark, but didn’t fill me completely as “Fifty” did. “Knight” by Kristen Ashley had me hooked from the very first page with the story line and the anti-hero. *BIG WARNING on that one for graphic content (not as much BDSM, but the imagery…wow) and language (Oh! WOW).* But…..what now???? I need my Christian/Anastasia fix….the troubled, emotionally disturbed, controlling meets the naive, innocent to form a love connection beyond all others.
Thank you so much for posting this!
I was looking through Barnes and Noble after my love affair reading Mr. Grey thrice…”Crash into You” by Roni Loren. It was published Jan 2012. It givesa relationship, but the main heroine is going undercover into a BDSM lifestyle to find her sister. An old flame has decided to help her out by infiltrating with the Doms. It is a good read, and will have a sequel by this author.
Thanks for the suggestion..I have read all of the books you have suggested except Unsticky by Sarra Manning..I’ll start reading it soon..I trust your review and you doesn’t disappoint me at all..cheers..
Maya Banks – Sweet Series!!
Real similar feel to fifty
I think that “Mercy” by Annabel Joseph should be in the list . Personally , i didin’t found the characters likeable like Christian and Anna but , it’s definitly very ‘Fifty’ .
(Also , I love Unsticky !. it’s the more realistic in that subject. I mean , they get to actually know each other before falling in love ) π
Awesome recommendations guys! I’m very anxious to read a few of these!! Two just actually got pushed right up to the top of my TBR list, in fact.
Mala… I just looked up Mercy, and already that I find the author pretty “hard-core” (I was nervous enough adding Comfort Object), but I think Mercy makes me too nervous. Yikes!!
I too enjoyed Unsticky. Not my favorite read ever, but a good one for sure!
I completely agree with your books of similar intensity…I read the fifty series 3 times and had a hard time moving on then I found Beautiful Disaster and read that 3 times, then Thoughtless and Effortless, and now I am just starting the Dream Man series (so far finished Mystery Man and Wild Man). I also read Sempre and the Opportunist which had similar intensity but were no where as good. I can’t wait to see your completed list π
His Sugar Baby by Sarah Roberts – Fiftyish but also alot like Unsticky but more angsty! π
Angela… I LOVE how intense those books were. Re-reads for me, for sure!! I’m definitely going to keep adding to that section.
Jodi: “more angsty” magic words to me…
I LOVE what Taina said, so very true! And I love this list, which I will be referring to time & time again! Gabriel’s Rapture needs to be added as well (in my opinion).
Thanks for starting this list Maryse.
I read Fifty Shades of Grey several months ago and I agree that the trilogy has set the bar for all other reading. (sigh).
Lover Unbound & Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward – I have to say that my favorite parts of these two books were the BDSM scenes with Jayne/Butch & Vishous. I also liked the Vampire Queen series by Joey w. Hill for the BDSM theme as well. I did read Bared to You and am looking forward to the sequel to that book. I suspect I might not like Comfort Object but I will reserve judgement until I’ve actually read it. A number of the books on the list above I have on my Nook but not read yet. I’m currently airing out my brain and reading some cheapie/freebie YA vampire novel before my next smutfest. π Happy Reading everyone!
Okay so I’m consumed with thoughts of 50…. I read all 3 books over Memorial Day weekend… I feel like I’ve been starving since I put the last one down. I am currently reading Lover Reborn by JR Ward but I can’t get my head into it right now… So I just bought Beautiful Disaster, Bared to You, and The Marriage Bargain… Any suggestions on what to read first?? Part of me thinks that I’ll just end up re-reading 50… Gosh I haven’t had this feeling for any other book… The only thing close was Barrons but this feeling of emptiness is soo weird! LOL Please help!!!
Jen if you want more “Fifty” … “Bared to You” is your best bet!!
One of my absolute favorites is Beautiful Disaster so of COURSE I would adamantly recommend it, after that.
Marriage Bargain is a great read also. π
Thanks Kathryn for reminding me of Joey Hill. I wonder how angsty and emotional her books are. I’d love to read more like that.
Thanks Maryse!!!! Your site is my book bible!!! π
OMG. I found one. Almost the perfect follow-up. A Modern Love Story by Jolyn Palliata. Someone suggested it on goodreads, so I figured I’d give it a go and LOVED it. Buy it and put it on the top of your TBR pile. You won’t be disappointed.
Ah yes I have read and reviewed that one. I struggled at times with it… (hehe)
https://www.maryse.net/books/contemporary-romance/book-review-a-modern-love-story-by-jolyn-palliata.html
but I DID love her “rock star” series (or at least the intro to her upcoming series). Even made me cry!! Have you read that one yet?
https://www.maryse.net/books/rock-stars-bad-boys/book-review-connected-twists-of-fate-by-jolyn-palliata.html
Hi , Since you’ve mentioned Joey W Hill , i would recommend Ice Queen and Mirror of my soul . Although you should know they are very difficult to read – way too hardcore . I actually had to skip a lot of pages to continue . Anyway , the love story is amazing π
-Also , in my search for Fifty-look-alikes i discovered the Crimsom Trilogy by Trisha Baker. It’s a paranormal but pretty intense-
The Reluctant Dom is available again at Bookstrand. Just got it this morning. https://www.bookstrand.com/the-reluctant-dom
I have read every book on the list above except “comfort object” & the closest out of any of them to Fifty is “Bared”… Ahhh gotta love our Fifty…
@ CaroleDee – Just finished book 2 in Kallypso Masters’ “Rescue Me” series… Thanks for the recommendation.. I’m hooked! While it’s not Fifty – I am really liking the emotional connections with all the characters and a little kink too! π YAY!
@ DebLi – Thanks for posting that link to “The Reluctant Dom” – I nearly passed out when I saw the price amazon was asking for it… What an amazing book… I literally sobbed and sobbed… right in front of my husband… I think he just stared at me in stunned silence the whole time… But I truly enjoyed that read!
(By the way since reading Fifty – I have succumbed to a serious book addiction – I think I’ve read 25 books in the past 3 weeks… My husband is seriously starting to worry LOL)
Just finished Bared to You per your suggestion and loved it. I really enjoy the erotic scenes. Any suggestions on good books with erotic scenes?
I already read 5o shades and then bared to you. I don’t like to read much but these books have found me not being able to get my nose out of them. π
I understand wholeheartedly!! I have a few lists that have some of the best books I’ve ever read!
@Jillian-I am with you. I don’t ever have time to read but I MADE time to read the 50 series and then Bared to You per this suggestion page.
@Marys-so what books do you recommend for the erotic scences? Thats best part of these books. π
Okay right off the bat, I’m going to recommend (for angsty, deep, unconventional, heartfelt, yet dark and gritty storylines) —> Megan Hart’s “Dirty/Broken series. I’ve read the first 4 or 5 and LOVED them: https://www.maryse.net/books/megan-hart-books/megan-hart-dirty-broken-series-reading-order.html
But I’ll think of more π
@Jen, that happened to me too…I’m up to 40 books, but he doesn’t complain because of the steady stream of sex! I definitely recommend the Maya Banks Sweet Series(6 books) and the Lora Leigh Bound Hearts Series(11 books)
for some really steamy good reads. I like to read series because I don’t need to spend the time building back story…
@Jennifer – heee heee – yeah my husband thinks I’m nuts but he isn’t complaining π !!! Thanks! I had already added the Sweet series to my TBR list but I will definitely check the Bound Hearts series…
It’s so nice to find this blog – seriously Maryse, Thank you! At least I know I am not the only one with the book addiction – even the steamy smutty ones!!! π
π Alrighty, you guys!! I will put together an erotica list… That should be fun! LOL!
Tough job Maryse. Going to require a lot of research!! π
Backstage Pass – Sinners on Tour needs to be on the erotica list.
DebLi- Agreed for Sinners. I can’t wait for more!!
Thanks Maryse!!! I havent read in YEARS. But ever since FSOG and Bared to You, I have found thats all I want to do. So an erotica list will be awesome. π Until you get your list out I will work on some of these other suggestions. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and yes thank you for this blog!
Hi, I have been readying a book a day. I would recommend Shayla Black Wicked Lovers series. I am also interested in sharing books to save money. Anyone interested just let me know. Also, I love the suggestions!
Thank you Laura for that recommendation!!
hi my suggestion for your erotica list is “the initiation of Ms Holly” by k d grace……it’s very naughty xx
I am glad to find folks who can read and discuss my kind of books openly! I loved Bared to You! Cross is definitly in my top 6 fantasy men. YUM! I would also suggest Forbidden Pleasures. Mac and Jethro are so hot. Swoon worthy definitely
My top 5 men are Christian, Cross, Brian (Rock Me), Kellan, and Jacob (Vampire Queen Series).
I am so excited to have just found this website! I so thought I was a freak for getting zero sleep while reading the 50 series twice in a row. I have NEVER done that. Loved every minute of it! I am currently reading the Lords of the Underworld series and loving it. It has lessened my obsession with 50 (a little bit!).
I’m glad I found this site! I have read FSOG trilogy 5 x’s, I repeat 5 x’s back to back! Even though I knew what was going to happen I still couldn’t put it down, I’m obsessed and can’t wait for more. I loved seeing Christian’s point of view and hope to see one from his aspect. Anywhoo…..I needed a new obsession but never know what direction to go, so for now I’m riding the erotica train….LOL Thank you for great reviews, suggestions and finding a new home to talk about books!!
Absolutely. Love your blog! Thank you for this post about “after 50”! Have you read slammed by coleen Hoover? It’s a different story and theme but I found it to be intense… If you have or do let me know what you think!
Maria
I sure have Maria! Love that series!! Check out my reviews for it in my book review section (alphabetical by author).
My recommendation for your erotica list is “The Siren” by Tiffany Reisz.
Loved it!!! Well written, great character development and a interesting story to boot
OMFG. I so needed this list! I, like many people above me am having an “After 50” stupor. What do I read now? Or shall I just re-read 50 again? Such an amazing series, and I will agree once again with all above me that there is definately a pre 50 and post 50 era, not only in reading and books, but in life too! I finished the 3rd book two nights ago and have been feelig lifeless, almost limp and incredibly bored. I wish there was more 50 to read ;(
I often use your website to find info about the books I read. Your site is great! When I saw this post about Fifty-ish books I thought right away about some of Megan Hart’s books. I’ve been hesitant to read books that are erotica because of some really bad “wham bam thank you mam” (or sir as it may be) books that someone recommended to me a long time ago. But after reading a few goodreads comments about Megan Hart’s books I went ahead with Broken and then Dirty Β about 2 months ago. Wow! Talk about emotional depth & turmoil. And then here comes Fifty! Double Wow! Thank you for gathering this list. It’s the depth & angst, as you call it, that bring these books past just something to get your body to purr, into something that’s body, brain, & heart stirring. Am I expressing that right?
OMG-I finished reading fifty shades yesterday! Day & night that’s all I did was read (read them in a week)! That is not like me at all! I do not read books as a hobby & decided to “try” to read this trilogy. I’m absolutely in love with this story!!! I felt what they felt & thought what they thought. Once I completed the last book I felt empty & lost because I wanted more! It’s ALL I think about. Is this normal?!?!?
I’m excited to read Bared to You
but hesitate to begin reason #1 I need to let my mind get back to reality & #2 I want to wait a little longer unroll the other two books come out so I’m waiting on edge…..
What to do?!?
I need more Christian Grey & Ana romance… I may have to re-read fifty!!!!
Thanks Maryse for putting what to read next !
I heard a movie is in the works for fifty, is it true?!?
Okay, I have read this series 2x in less than a month! I was introduced to this book by my bookclub. Needless to say I am addicted – lolol. I am turning my husband into a Christian Grey minus the whippings, etc. (Did I just say that?) This is my new all time favorite. Lutisha Lovely’s Hallelujah Series just got bumpped to second & I really loved that series π I am now waiting on the next installment of something with Christian & Anastasia. I’m not ready for their story to end! Nothing I’ve read after 50 Shades compares. I need my 50 Shades of ……… fix!!!!!!! – lolol
I have read all of the fifty shades books and bred to you i need another trilogy to read loved bared to you but was diappointed the way it ended i felt i needed more is there going to be more 50 shade books really needing it feeling lost without my Mr grey and Anna
I have a BDSM recommendation: Becoming Sage by Kasi Alexander. I thought the book was well written and the characters well defined.
I’m on it Marijee!
Maryse and company, you must check out The Winemaker’s Dinner: Appetizers (book #1 in The Winemaker’s Feast). It debuts on July 31 (paperback only, for now), but the two prequels can be downloaded for free at omnificpublishing.com. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t have it listed for pre-order, but Barnes and Noble does. The book is co-written by Dr. Ivan Rusilko (doctor/author/model/body builder/Mr. USA/Mr. World USA) and fictionalized erotic memoir based on his own romantic experiences in real life. Just looking at the man is eroticism at its best, and the prequels are wonderful! Move out of the way, Christian and Gideon!
OMG! Kathy I just looked at his website! He is SEX ON A STICK! And he’s real too! OHHH BOY! I can’t wait to read those prequels… do you know how to get those onto a kindle?
Maryse, go to omnificpublishing.com and click on free reads; click the books (there are 2 Winemaker’s) you want and add them to cart. You can choose mobi as the format, as that will be recognized by Kindle. Or you can add them to you ibooks with the epub format. Once you download them, you can add them to your “my kindle content” folder on your computer and they should sync. Good luck! *swoon over this man*
I saw him. π hehe.
*blush*
He is pretty cute. I shall work on downloading the prequels. *hug* for reminding me!!
So like you, fifty shades? What next!! I have been reading many books since. I’m definitely going to have a go with bared to you, this is my next literacy venture. I did read a good book called on demand which is a black lace book. Now although heavily sexy and bdsm it was very well written, I did find myself giggling, and toasting champagne with my inner goddess for some of the you go girl moments! It’s a collection of short stories all set in a hotel and centred around/told by the protagonist Sophie. Now although each story is a short thrill of sexy encounters where character depth is lacking, I certainly felt Sophie was a well developed character. One thing I particularly liked about Sophie was the fact she is a massive slut, she didn’t have that Nieve innocence that often annoyed me about Ana. It’s definitely worth a read, I really enjoyed this it def got 4* from me! Just putting in my 2 pence!
I haven’t been much of a reader, but I tried FSOG and I loved them! They got me reading others people suggested; Bared to you, Knight, and Gabriel’s inferno/Gabriel’s rapture. I REALLY enjoyed the last 2. If anyone knows of any similar to inferno and rapture please let me know.
Kaleigh, Grave Refrain is another great, great book. I found the author’s writing style to be similar to Sylvain Reynard’s & I loved, loved, loved the Gabriel books. Grave Refrain (by Sarah Glover) is a ghost/love story, but not a scary ghost story (I don’t like scary/horror stories). There’s romance, light humor, & light angst. It was a beautiful & awesome tale.
Thanks for the suggestions of what to read after Fifty! I just finished the trilogy and I’m so sad that it is over. When I first picked up the books I was skeptical and thought it was going to be raunchy, but I was wrong! I really enjoyed the story between Christian and Ana and was sweeped in to their story.
Hi, another suggestion for a read would be Anne Rice’s (or A. N. Roquelaure) Sleeping Beauty Trilogy……. WAY SEXY! And I read it years before 50 ever came out and I have always LOVED it! ***WARNING*** this series is SERIOUS eroticism, way more than normal BDSM books and should be read only by those with an open mind who are not easily offended LOL……
Not sure if anyone had recommended these but they are hot! Shayla Black Wicked Ties Series. The first couple of books have some “sharing” if you know what I mean, but their all based around the bdsm stuff. But let me tell you, once you get to Surrender To Me and Belong To Me. OMG! Those Edgington brothers are beyond hot AND bossy…and did I say hot? You could probably skip the others to read just those books but they do show the past characters, but nothing to confuse anyone…please read them if ya’ll haven’t already.
I just picked up Bared to You and will being reading it tonight. I tried to find Beautiful Disaster but couldn’t so I will check online (which I’m sure I will be able to). I was also going to pick up the Sleeping Beauty trilogy, but they only had 2 of the books….so I will check online for those as well. I’m looking into getting the Nook tablet, does anyone have any opinions about it vs. the Kindle Fire? Thanks for all the reading suggestions!
Try out Hostile Takeover by Joey Hill. Its not a “light” as 50, but it has complex characters and a wonderful storyline.
Not as good as the Fifty series, but check out Larissa Ione – Demonica series (5 books) and Lords of Deliverance (3 books).
Some older books, but well worth the read are Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (Very erotic) and Exit to Eden.
So love your blog!! I have read most of the books listed above but I think Finding Eden and Beyond Eden by Kele Moon should be added to the bdsm list! Now lts not for everyone but you really feel what these characters go through not to mention the love and the angst with the characters. Very well written and keeps you glued to the pages!
Awesome post! Thank you. I’ve also heard that If I were You by Lisa Renee Jones is supposed to be really good but it’s not out yet. and Because You Are Mine Part I: Because You Tempt Me by Beth Kery is said to be good.. Has anyone read these?
So after 50 I went to Sylvia Day’s Bared to you and then…what I haven’t seen on here yet is Indigo Bloome’s book Destined to Play..
So glad I found your blog! It is great to know other women who enjoyed FSOG as much as I did and want more of it!!! π Loved Bared to You and can’t wait for the sequel! Also found the Danver Series by Sydney Landon and loved the characters and the love stories with the steamy scenes! Very light reading and greatly priced! (only $2.99 per book!). Thank you for the recommendations! I will be sure to check back often! π
I’m excited also that I have found your blog Maryse – your a legend!
I thought I was the only one that needed to read more books like ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, so I’m happy to find that everyone else here thinks the same (woop woop).
I went and bought ‘Bared to You’ by Sylvia Day and ‘Haven of Obedience’ by Marina Anderson and had an enjoyable weekend. I agree that ‘Bared to You’ is a great book and I can’t wait for the next one (disappointed I didn’t find this out until the end), but I felt ‘Haven of Obedience’ was more interesting – but I’m not really sure why…perhaps because it was more focused and didn’t have a lot of other stuff/issues/characters thrown in.
Maybe it is as you say….what to read after fifty shades?
Found this site and it’s safely on my desktop, put one book down open this page and select a new read recommended by u all – totally spot on all of u! Disappointed nobody’s perfect in masters of arms series has not been released yet, thought it was meant to be 2nd Aug?? Like u all, read FSOG twice in a week!!!! Hubby certainly not complaining!! Another trilogy I enjoyed, Lindsay delagair, unforgivable, untouchable and untraceable, gripping read and u have no idea what will happen all the way through, edge of seat read!!!!!!!
I love, love, love Floor Time and the entire Stewart Realty Series. Thanks for the suggestion!
I went through withdrawal after reading the Fifty trilogy!!! I am so happy I found your site. I read Bared to You by Sylvia Day and also The Billionaire’s Desire by Ashley Blake. I liked Ashley Blake’s book better, probably because I got really attached to the main characters.
Jacked by Raven Morris…an ink boiler.
I read Gabriel’s inferno , beautiful disaster and bared to you after reading “fifty shades trilogy “..they captured me..they are great in every way but not great as “fifty shades “of course cause when i read them i was already under the impact of “fifty shades”…especially bared to you very very similar in story to” fifty shades”..but Gabriel’s inferno and beautiful disaster have more romance than BDSM ..i recommend them to every one..they are awesome <3
Just read the Marriage Bargin and loved it! I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK IN THAT SERIES!
BRANDI
I wish I had found this site three months ago. The withdrawal from Fifty was awful. I convinced my sisters and a few friends to read the first book, but warned they should have the second on hand … just in case. Soon, I was reliving my Fifty love affair vicariously through them. I haven’t found any other “victims” recently, so I am so thrilled to have come across your blog – as a Fifty’s fan and as an avid read on a whole. Thanks!
I highly recommend The Proviso (Tales of Dunham) by Moriah Jovan. It’s an insanely long book which adds greatly to its depth of exposition with the characters, but in now way does it drag. I really want to hype this author because her writing shows such intelligence and uniqueness. She’s self-published and edited, but I swear it is so professionally put together you cannot tell. Although I’m glad for future readers that it is only $.99 now, I am kind of mad because I paid a lot more for it a couple years ago. The novel centers around 3 couples, but the intensity and angst evoke that Fiftyish vibe. Really a great book that more people should check out.
I judt finished Naked by Raine Miller, it’s one of a continuing story line but it is awesome. It reminds me a lot of 50 Shades but mostly like Bared to You. Only thing is it’s a novella and a quick read but good none the less with a new one coming out the end of Sept. or first of Oct.
I too read the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice. It starts out with a bang and just keeps on going. I stayed up late every night and finished all 3 in about 2 days. I got the first one and regretted not getting all three at the same time. A great twist on what happens to Beauty after her prince wakes her with a kiss. Or should I say how he woke her as he gave her the kiss that woke her up. *shivers* Think I will read them again. = )
It took me a while to read 50 shades but once I did this was the first place I came to find something to read next! I read most of the books on the list, but Sylvia Day’s crossfire trilogy was definately the best second! The next book comes Oct. 2 I can’t wait. BEST READ since 50 shades! Thanks maryse don’t know what I’de do without all the great what to read afters!
TIA
SO happy you loved it too, Tia!! I can’t wait for more Gideon!
I’m so excited to have found this site. I’m definitely obessesed w/FSOG. I’ve read it 5x’s w/o skipping. I have a book suggestion that I haven’t seen mentioned yet. It’s called 40 Shades of Pearl by Arianne Richmonde. It’s available on e-readers but not sure if it’s in print yet. It’s a good steamy read with the alpha male thing & he’s younger than the heroine.
I finally found a perfect site. You have got it together woman!! Not just in regards to the “50” list, but all your lists in general. I love books, and book lists even more, but this site is just amazingly awesome. I don’t know how you have the time or energy, but I’m very glad I happened to find this site. One of my co-workers suggested I read Bared to You and I actually surprised her and myself by liking it better than 50 shades. Not necessarily because of the eroticism, but the two characters I think. We’ll see with what she comes up with next. But I would definitely recommend! Thanks again for your site and all the work you put into it!!
I highly recommend adding “If I Were You” the first book in the inside out trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones…seriously best thing I have read since fifty!! Cannot wait for the next book to come out!!! Love your blog thanks for all the great recommendations!
I just finished On Dublin Street by Samantha Young and it was fabulous. No BDSM but still a great read. I am disappointed that there’s not another book to follow it as of yet. I have also read Bared to You and Beautiful Disaster and this book was right up there!
agreed Heather and Brooke! Two great reads!! Hrmmm… I think I just may add them “officially” to this list. π
Just wanted to mention that starting today Joey W. Hills Board Resolution (ecopy), is available for FREE DOWNLOAD! Oct 1- 14 – Book 1 of the Knights of the Board Room Series, will be offered FREE at the EC webstore, Amazon and B&N, as part of the Free Starter Series promotion!
Hi! Is anyone aware that there is another book titled Beautiful Disaster by Laura Spinella? My friend found it after I recommended Jamie McGuire’s book to her. I decided to read it and I LOVED it. The two main character’s are named Flynn & Mia. I think you will fall in love with Flynn, I did! ……..:)
Ok So I was scanning the “What to read after 50 Shades” list and many of your recommendations I have read already. So, I went to reader suggestions and researched a few. Masters at Arms (Rescue Me) by Kallypso Masters recommended by Carole is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I bought the 1st, to see how I’d like the series. Before I was thru Adam’s part, I had bought the rest of them. It’s full of everything; love, healing & trust, romance, suspense & angst, emotional pain/guilt, etc. These stories are better than the Shadowlands series by far. You have to read them in order, no skipping around (I tried after I read Adam’s part in the first book). All I can say is wow. I am totally hooked and I love them. Kallypso is an amazing story teller! I can’t wait for the rest of the story to play out. I have read many many stories and this series rates into my top 5 with Black Dagger Brotherhood & Dark Hunters. I know you will love this series as I have.
I was lost after FSOG until I found a duet written by CJ Roberts. This woman is amazing! You have to read Captive in the dark and the second book Seduced in the dark. I’ve read both books twice and have not been able to get the main characters out of my head.
I have to agree with shary i read the duet series by cj Roberts and fell in live with caleb and livVie. I really thought after reading these two books that fifty was mediocre at best in its writing style. I highly recommend the duet series before you know Caleb will be replacing Christian in the top 5 fantasy men of brandi patterson
I’m currently reading the Rescue Me series by Kallypso Masters. Ditto to what Carrie said on Oct. 7. I am learning a lot about the whole BDSM scene as well as about the psyche of survivors of sexual abuse and soldiers with PTSD. Ms. Masters really did her homework when writing these books.
What about IF I WERE YOU by Lisa Renee Jones heard is pretty good but cant find it anywhere to download π
Red Phoenix’s Brie series practically ruined 50 Shades for me. Just sayin. It was so much hotter than hot. Intensley sexy. I read the Brie short stories shortly before reading the 50 Shades series. And the 50 D/s relationship, just couldn’t compare to Brie and her Master.
Nadia, you can get IF I WERE YOU from both B&N and Amazon-here are the links on her page.-https://www.lisareneejones.com/if-i-were-you/#order
Just finished reading The Reluctant Dom. OMG This book will stick in my head for a very long time. I have a huge pile of tissues on my nightstand. I started crying at pg. 601 and was loudly sobbing by the end. Maryse, thanks for putting this on my radar.
I cannot recommend Gabriel’s Inferno & Gabriel’s Rapture highly enough – truly wonderful – better written than FSOG no BDSM (ah well…can’t have everything!) but a terrific romance. Bared to You is a cracker!! Can’t wait for Reflected in You….
Thanks Chris! These are certainly popular! A 3rd book on the way, too!
Thanks for all the recommendations since I was looking for good books to ready after 50. Loved 50 even though a very bad portrail of BDSM lifestyle, but was still a good read. Wish the ending did not feel so rushed. Been working my way thru your list! I have loved the Shadowlands series and Gabriel’s Interno so hot read it in two sittings. Thanks again!
hi maryse, thank you for all of your suggestions. i really love fifty and gideon. i really like the character of eva. i think from now on i love to read about billionaires with a rich girl partner of course. what can you suggest? and also i love a story of a love triangle… π
Fifty Shades got me started in the romance genre (and on Maryse’s blog) and I knew I’d never be the same after it! The only book I’ve ever read that I loved as much, if not better, is Beautiful Disaster–it’s my all-time fav! I’ve read another 25 books from Maryse’s lists and all were very good. Those are my two favs, and Thoughtless/Effortless is a close third. Some books I just never recover from–in the best way!
Joy Vincoy– if you want a love triangle, please read SC Stephens’ books: “Thoughtless” and its sequel, “Effortless” if you haven’t yet. By far the best love triangle I’ve read!
My faves after FSOG were the “Colorado mountain series” by Kristen Ashley. Sooooo good. Each book has a different set of main characters but they all intertwine. Could not put them down. .
Thanks Maryse for the post. It echoes my thoughts completely, there are so many after fifty list but mostly related to BDS. I am absolutely captivated by fifty series, esp as you say the ‘more’ part and dying to get hold to similar books.. Do keep updating the list as and when you hit a jackpot π
My pleasure, Shweta! I’m looking for that perfect book that encompasses the same “feel” that we got from Fifty. Bared to You is still the one that hit that level for me.
It’s great to see that a lot of the books you point out I have already read. Being Barron was also a great book. I found that after reading Fifty Shades the last book had we waiting for Christian’s reversion and now I’m just like whatever. I just finished My Best Friend. Great books.
Hi! I finished the FSOG series very quickly! I needed more! I found Bared to you by Sylvia Day and LOVED it! Just finished with Reflected in you! The second book….OMG!!! I think I love this series just a little more than FSOG! Can’t wait until the 3rd book…now to be released in May 2013! Ugh! Anxiously awaiting it’s arrival! Any suggestions on what I can read in the meantime?
Hey, have just finished reading 50 trilogy and Bared to You and Reflected in you for the second time in as many months – yep loved these – now i have 6 months to wait until Entwined with you comes out…grrr… but i was wondering if anyone had read Take Me by Bella Andre and what they thought of it, at the moment the only place i can find it is on ebay, so before i purchase, can i have your opinions please…thanks….
hi! i juste finished fifty and bared to you, and loved them!! when i was seraching for the next book to read, i found a excerpt of Anything he wants by Sara Fawkes and reaaaally loved it (unfortunately i could not found it in my booksotre) but it seems very promising!
Thank you for the list!
Slavica, it’s not out yet. The book (which is actually all 5 of the previously realeased ebooks) is due to be released on Nov.27th! You don’t have long to wait. π I got it from NetGalley to read and it was really good. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
haha that explains it. Thank you Brenda! i look forward to it!
I just actually finished a book that’s very “fiftyish” called “In Flight” by R.K Lilley, it’s about a flight attendant that’s seduced by a sexy billionaire that’s also into BDSM, I’m currently reading the second book in the series called “Mile High (up in the air)”. So far this is the closest to Fifty Shades as I’ve read. (and I”ve read a LOT!)
The Submissive by Tara Sue Me is very fiftyish fantastic read!! cant recommend it enough.
I just read the most amazing book in a while, its brand new, itβs called βI am HERβ¦β by Sarah Ann Walker. The book was so good, I read the whole thing yesterday and all night through. I strongly recommend it to anyone. Its totally sexy, but really, really dark in parts. I was even a little uncomfortable, but the ending shocked me totally. I canβt find anything else on this author, but her book was AWESOME!! I strongly suggest it to anyone who likes steamy, and funny, but with a really intense story line!! Oh, and its written really well!
Wait till the Glass Towers Trilogy comes out December 10th! Ran across the website promo ….coming out December 10, 2012! http://www.glasstowerstrilogy.blogspot.com
Sounds Hot!!! Can’t Wait!!
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this before, but the Beauty series by Anne Rice, or under her pen name, is pretty hard core. Now I haven’t read that much hard core BDSM so I really don’t have anything to compare it to. But when the titles states, “If you enjoyed Fifty Shades, you’ll love this…” or whatever it says, that is not necessarily so. I recommend any potential readers read some reviews first. I have read the first two and will finish the last one soon.
Addicted to You & Exposed to you by Beth Kery, her books are GREAT! you will not be able to put them down! Amazing story lines, very intense scenes. Great follow ups to 50 shades & crossfire series. Her books definitely should be on your list of books to read!
I read a series by Beth Kery called Because You Are Mine, before reading “Fifty”. And I must say that they remind me alot of each other. You might like this series. There is 8 novellas, altogether. They run prefect so that it seems like one book.
If you enjoy erotica or erotic/romance you HAVE to read anything by Joey W. Hill. Her Vampire Queen Series and Nature of Desire Series are amazing! I enjoyed Fifty Shades but after reading Nature of Desire series (before) FIFTYseemed like PG13 lol…
I agree with Vanessa. PLEASE read Joey Hill. She is by far one of the most gifted writers I have EVER read. Her Nature of Desire Series is just incredible. You should read them in order, but if you think there are too many, please read Ice Queen & Mirror of My Soul. You have to read them back to back. You know how sometimes when you finish a book, you just can’t speak? That’s what happened to me after finishing Mirror of My Soul. It remains one of the most soul touching, amazing books I have ever read. I didn’t think I could ever enjoy a story about 2 men, but Joey’s book Rough Canvas also left me speechless, it’s also part of the Nature Series. Her Knights of the Boardroom series is also Fun. Her books are pretty hardcore, but I promise you will be touched & you will not regret reading them.
Maryse,
Your Blog is wonderful, I love it. I have to say IΒ΄m relieved.. IΒ΄m from Argentina, and our culture does not see in good light the kind of.. Literature.. I enjoy. It makes me feel hopeful to know that maybe IΒ΄m not such a freak for being addicted to power reading.. It also worries me a little that I havent met anyone to share my life with.. But having read your “Bio”, and seeing so much of me in every one of your descriptions of your self (from “awwwwwww, prettyyyyyy”, to listening to metal), IΒ΄m happy to see that you are married, and happy, so maybe I can be also.. IΒ΄m only 27, but I have a 7 year old son, and sometimes I feel like IΒ΄m never gonna find someone.. Anyways, sorry I got sidetracked. Bottom line, Thank you. I donΒ΄t feel so alien anymore.
I just finished the first 2 books of the Up In The Air series by RK Lilley. Loved them book 3 in feb. a little Christian a little Gideon a lot hot.
Just wanted to add another series I thought was good after 50 Shades and Bared to You. It is Because You Are Mine by Beth Kery. There are eight books I believe, but they are more like novelas, they could be all combined into one book. Anyhow, they are good reads.
I love the book Knight & Play I think it really deserves to be on this list. I am anxiously awaiting book two. I highly recommend reading this and falling in love with Lucien Knight. Squeeeeeee
Hi Maryse… Though not BDSM, I cannot rave enough about ‘I am HER…’ By Sarah Walker. The story is so intense, shocking, graphic, horrifying and beautiful all at once. The love story is so twisted, and not at all the norm. Anyway, it’s a new Author, and a new book that I found because of the stunning cover and I swear you will not be disappointed! Oh, and the main man is hot, hot, hot!
The Big Book of Smut is currently going for free on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
I get why you would say reading the Crossfire series after the 50 Shades trilogy. However, because of those reasons, I wished I had not read Bared to You right after 50. Although Bared to You takes on its own form, the beginning similarities turned me off. I finished reading it, but had to take a break from the whole “rich man is the ‘dom’ meeting a bashful, more inexperienced innocent female books. I don’t have a problem reading those similar likenesses back to back anymore, but I couldn’t do it after 50. I had to go back an reread Bared to You to get its full effect later on.
Are they planning on coming out with a new book after 50 Shades freed? I need to know im having withdraws i cant seem to find anything thats as exciting as fifty!!!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this blog π Never, and I mean never before have I had anny interest for blogs. untill my single-mom, boring everyday life, directed me to books! wuhuuu, i am hooked! at first i was obsessed about Twilight. and to snap me out of that depression, i found fifty shades….. olala!!! after re-reading the whole trioligy three times (in two months :/ ) i desperately searched the internet for a new book that could snap me out of fifty. i found your blog! π and with a huge grin and glittering eyes i found a dusin new books to try π since that, i have read the crossfire novels.. oh my god!!! I have not slept in days! trying to snap me out of my Gideon depession i am now trying Thoughtless, in five minutes π so thank you!!! you give me hope that even though my heart breaks every time i finnish a really good book, i can go to your blog and just find a new one :))) (btw, im sorry if my english is messed up sometimes, im Norwegian π
To Cindy:
If you liked Joey Hill’s Gideon character. There’s’ a short story about Daegan and Gideon on this website. http://Www.jwhconnection.com. Go under forum & then Vignettes. They’re free and have stories from many of her series.
If you are looking for more “ahem… Alternative” bdsm books, I would try charise sinclair’s master of the mountain and master of the abyss over the shadowlands series because the shadowlands gets a bit too hardcore for me. The master duo is lighter. Master of the mountain has a fuller figured heroine who is very unappreciated by her (pre-hero) boyfriend and a hero who is a troubled vet. She has never been into bdsm before so its very light play. The second in the series has some more graphic and exhibitionist play but still lighter than the shadowlands series. The heroine is biracial and has abandonment issues. The hero has lost confidence in himself as a Dom after a sub committed suicide. It also involves a 3rd party stalker/murderer after the heroine.
I finished reading fire after dark and secrets after dark by Sadie Mathews – I enjoyed it. waiting on Promises after dark 28 Feb 2013
Cant wait.
I just read Vanilla on Top by C.J. Ellisson. It was a yummy treat and definitely belongs on this list. I posted a review about it on Crazy Four Books today and C.J. is giving away some really cool swag as well. Stop on over if you think you might be interested. I bet you’d like it.
Don’t worry. I truly loved the book and it really does belong on this list or I would Never be posting this comment.
I stumbled upon this website…thank you for putting this together. I’m more on the 50 side than the Beautiful D. side. Though I have read BD and am looking forward to the second. I come from the land of G Showalter, K Cole, JR Ward,N Singh ect…but have read a ton of other stuff…a couple that I recommend that I haven’t seen mentioned are Butterfly Unpinned by Bonnie Dee and Laura Bacchi for the BDSM/Romance and Edge Play X by M. Jarrett Wilson darker BDSM/suspense. The UP in the Air Series by RK Lilley is a good 50 like read.
I finished Sempre (Forever) by JM Darhower a couple hours ago (was listed on this website)…thank you. It was fantastic!
I think I’ve found something that has the intensity of FSOG and the Crossfire series. Give This Man and Beneath this Man by Jodi Malpas a chance. When I first read the book I thought Jesse ( the Alpha) was verbally abusive. When I actually finished the books I understand why he comes across that way. Really steamy scenes! Must read!
I’ve recently came across Pierced by Danger (by Collins, Lashell). Here, a handsome “broken” detective falls for a victim of a case he is working on. Very steamy sex scenes! Can’t wait for the next books to come out.
just finished the 40 shades of Pearl trilogy…. loved it!!!
I agree that anyone wanting the 50 feel has to read the Crossfire series. Also since I see this list has taken on some darker reads also there is one that CAN NOT be left off.
Consequences and Truth by Aleatha Romig
This was one of the most disturbing books that I have ever read, but I couldn’t put it down! It was fantastic! After the disturbing start, I kept reading and before long I couldn’t stop. So anyone that starts it, give it a little time and you’ll be like me. Not going to say anything else because I don’t want to give anything away, but there are “shocks” and it is a roller coaster ride. As someone said, Tony (main character) is Christian and Gideon on steroids. There is no mistaking who is in charge that is for sure! This has turned into one of my all time favorite series, EVER and I hope others will discover it.
BTW, I absolutely loveeee your blog!!!!
Hey! Just loved, loved and loved BD! And fifty shades of grey!
Ah! Best book boyfriend for me is definately Travis and Kellen were simply swoon worthy. I just love a crazy in love hero with a bit possessive side to him! Lately I have read so many books, but none like Travis. And my heroines, I like them to be strong and feisty and not totally inexperienced, because though it is exciting to travel along with the female lead as she xperiances new things, but it gets a bit annoying when heroine turns a bushing idiot at the sight of a gorgeous man, and naive, inexperienced heroines usually do that. Thats why I didn’t like FSOG. Ana, with her stumbling and clumsiness and her needy nature was a turn off for me. She was naive and I hated how she gave over herself to Christian on a silver platter, ON A CONTACT!
Though I don’t usually read blog stories but one caught my eye on buzzle and it was so good though only a few chapters have been released. This one was ‘eccentric life’.
It had all the things I was looking for! A strong, spunky, snarky and a bit jaded heroine. She had a past that made her that way though the story has not revealed what it is yet. And Cole, a rockstar. Swoonworthy!! He had this bad boy persona, but behind his facade, the story hints a totaly awesome character, and the story also hints a reason behind its facade. And there is an another character Grayson, whose girlfriend had died in an accident and he had sworn off girls. I think the story is about how these jaded characters they after meeting each othe each evolved and find love, but don’t know yet as all of the chapters hasn’t been out yet!
And the dialogues! Love them, the banter between the characters!
Few of my favourites are;
Badminton.” He said coming closer. “So we officially meet. I am Grayson and you are Cassie, the new girl I suppose.” He gave me a look that seemed both speculative and a little shrewd.
Although I already knew his name before he even introduced himself but he wasn’t supposed to know that, so I just nodded. “Not so new now, nearly two weeks has passed.”
“Yeah, I guess you have lost your shine by now.” He gave a small grin then lifted up the badminton. “So shall we?”
***********************
Another fav of mine was;
“You idiot, you just ruined my shirt with your bloody mocha, when you were busy flirting with that girl.” I glared.
“Ah pity. And it was such a nice shirt.” He said amused, his gaze lingering at my shirt.
**********************
“Perhaps you don’t know me, let me introduce myself, I am…” He began to say, but I cut him off.
“Don’t know and don’t want to know.” I shook my head, cursing and thinking that now I have to go home and change my clothes again, and I didn’t even had a chance to drink my coffee. So much for peace here.
“Well, then if you don’t want to know my name at least tell me yours.” He gave me a grin. Was he serious?
“First name is ‘Get’ and last name is ‘Lost’.” I shot him an irritated look.
***********************
Ugh, don’t remind me.”
“Already did.” She said amused.
“Smart-ass.”
“Not as much as you, I am sure. I think you are a bad influence.” She said jokingly.
**********************************
This one is when the female lead Cssie and Selena have a confrontation with barbie queen Jessica.
“Like you would know about fashion.” She scoffed.
“Enough to see that you don’t have any.” Selena said.
“Oh go to hell.” She said clearly peeved, her face turning red with anger. Call me sadistic, but I must say that I got a glimpse of satisfaction at seeing her finally lose her cool.
“Pardon me, but I must decline your gracious offer as I wouldn’t want to intrude upon you there.” I said solemnly.
*********************************
Another is when Cole meets her second time.
Hello ladies, may I introduce myself?” Cole said, turning on his charm, as he came and stopped by in front of us. Selena blushed to her roots and started to say something when I cut her off.
“Certainly, try those people standing over there.” I said coolly.
***********************8
This one is with grayson
I sighed. “Okay pretty boy, but this is for one time only.” I gave him a warning look.
“Thanks Cassie.” He looked relieved, and then he gave me a grin. “Pretty boy? I don’t know whether to be insulted being called ‘pretty’ or flattered.”
“Oh so should I have used a more manly adjective?” I sassed.
“Never miss a good chance to shut up honey.” He said playfully, chuckling.
“Okay shutting up about you prettiness.” I laughed.
**********************
And well there are lots more and I could go on and on. Clearly obsessed here I think. First I was obsessed with Travis, now this story posted in installments called ‘Eccentric life’. Highly recommented to anyone.
I have just finished reading Dublin’s street and was overjoyed to find that I quite loved this book! Braden, he is the perfect alpha hero <3
And Jocylen, strong, and I was touched by the way she handled her past. Altogether a good book! Maryse thanks for this blog, helped me alot! And Fiona, thanks for recommending eccentric life, though it was a blog story, and not yet whole out, but loved the characters and the witty banter. Liked the whole bad boy persona of Cole.
Still havent read BD, but I am hoping to remedy that soon π
I’m a big 50 shades fan but I’ve just read Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren and LOVED it. I might even like it better than 50 shades!
Love your blog, thank you so much for the recommendations. There is a brand new one out I just found- One Swinging Summer by Patience Hellsmith. From what I can tell it’s only available on Kindle, but said Nook and print editions coming soon.
The main characters relationship is steamy- the steam starts in Ch 2- but they go to a sex club for her birthday, ‘just once, too see’ and some hot stuff happens. I enjoyed the authors writing style and the characters very much, and the sex scenes are hot. And I heard there is a second one in the works. Always looking for good reads- keep the blog coming.
I have very much enjoyed the new Breathless series so far. I, like most every woman out there, was looking for a juicy read after finishing the 50 shades series. This gave me exactly what i was looking for.
I would recommend the trilogy by tara me sue – the submissive, the dominate, and the training – it was fabulous.
I was in a major funk after Fifty Shades Trilogy. I read all three 4 times… I was so hooked. I read all the recommedations after it and didn’t think there would be another book to catch my attention. That was until I came across This Man trilogy. OMG! Christian Grey who? I am so on Central Jesse Cloud Nine and have major OJD (obssesive Jesse disorder). If you haven’t read this series yet… Then get on the ball! The author is Jodie Ellen Malpas
I found this website a couple weeks ago and thanks to everyone I now have a really long reading list. I usually don’t like to leave comments, but I have notice no one (and I could be wrong) have suggested the Up In The Air trilogy by R K Lilley. The books are called In Flight, Mile High, and Grounded. Another book I didn’t see on here was Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me (Complete me due out July 30th) By Julie Kenner.
God I LOVE coming to this site and finding new and fun books to read……was a HUGH fan of the Shades of Grey trilogy and look forward to finding similar and if not like wise stories from your reviews
They have been very helpful and I just wanted to say
THANK YOU π
I loved fifty shades, bared to you, in flight, this man, knight and stay etc…..
Just finished a book on the same lines called ‘up close and personal’ by JS Taylor. Loved it. It’s an erotic novel about an actress and a famous director set in London. Just about to start the sequel. Warning – once you start it you won’t be able to put it down!!
Ok, starting the ‘Close Up and Personal’ trilogy. I’ll let you ladies know my opinion when I’m done.
Happy Reading!
Finished the close up and personal trilogy now. Really enjoyed them!! Would recommend for those who loved Fifty.
Anything He Wants by Sara Fawkes is a great read to continue the Fifty Shades feal. Lucy Delacourt makes sure she gets on the elevator at work at the same time as a gorgeous stranger that works in the same building as she does. After several weeks of secretly watching him she finds herself alone with him in the elevator. Things get hot fast and he turns out to be the owner of the company. This book has BDSM scenes but like Fifty Shades it has way more to it. I’m trying to wait till it’s finished later this year but I don’t think I can. Read them both. You won’t be disappointed.
I have only read book one of the 50 Shades series, is the rest really worth the time and trouble?
Time? Definitely worth every minute! Trouble? The only trouble I had was putting the books down. If you read the 1st one… I don’t understand how you haven’t read the next two. The 2nd (Fifty Shades Darker) picks up right where the 1st left off! My favorite is the 2nd one! Awesome series. After you read those, look into Sylvia Day’s Bared Into You series, R.K. Lilly In Flight series and my favorite Jodie Ellen Malpas This Man series.
Another good series which is a short read is The Blackstone Affair series by Raine Miller (Naked, All In and Eyes Wide Open).
Happy Reading π
I loved Red Phoenix! Her Brie series is AWESOME!! And for those that may not be aware, she continued the series!!! Check out the After Graduation Series, there’s 4 out now and number 5 is due out tomorrow or Sunday! I can’t wait! They are just as awesome, *squee*
His Perfect Submissive Alyssa Aaron
It is similar to 50 Shades in the way blends traditional Romance story with a little bit of BDSM.
The Stark Trilogy by J. Kenner is quite good and the third book is due to be released on July 30th.
I’m so glad I found this web site !
I loved fifty shades blew my mind then I read the crossfire
Series loved it! I’ve done a lot of reading and have to toss out some of the series I have read the Mitchell family series by Jennifer foor it has 7 books, the honor student series by Teresa mummert it has 3 books and one coming out in i believe aug! the sleeping beauty series , the marked series which I was disappointed in due to not being completely finish! Right now I’m reading beautiful bastard by christina Lauren it has two books to it!
I firmy argree that there should be a warning that comes with the 50 shaeds books. It was really tough for me to pick my next books. One series I didn’t notice on your list of what to read after 50 shades was the “Up in the Air” series by RK Lilley. James Cavendish fast became my next Christian Grey.
This Man, Beneath This Man and This Man Confessed by Jodi Ellen Malps good books.
I suggest to add “This man” trilogy to your list by Jodi Ellen Malpas.
I have to recommend The “Up In The Air” Trilogy by R.K. Lilley. The main characters are James Cavendish :Rich billionaire hotel heir and Bianca: A Flight attendant. These books have BDSM, love and will even bring tears to your eyes.
Is everybody excited that the movie for Fifty Shades is scheduled to be released in August of 2014?
Just finished read a series by Gail McHugh, Collide and Pulse. Love, Love, Loved!!! Gavin Blake is by far my favorite book guy!!! beautiful love story!!! it’s a must read!!!!
After reading the “This Man Trilogy, I can’t even remember what FSOG was about! I never would’ve known about trilogy if it wasn’t for this blog- Love this blog!
I can’t find any articles about the “up the air” series. It is a really gone one if you liked fifty shades or crossfire. I have juste finished the third.
So funny, I also have before and after FSOG books!
I just love the “sweet series” and “breathless” by Maya Banks and the “wicked series” by Shayla Black. Most of those books have BSDM and all books have love and a HEA.
Also very nice books (no BSDM) are the books by Olivia Cunning.
(sorry for my english..)
Please add J.Kenner to the fifty list
Stark trilogy:
1.Release Me
2.Claim Me
3.Complete Me
“This Man” is a great trilogy. This man, beneath this man, this man confessed.
I am SO GLAD you write about fifty shades as so much more than just sex. Whenever i was seen reading the series, I would always receive rude and ignorant comments from people who have never read the books before. It was so frustrating because the storyline is actually so heart-wrenching!!!
Just picked up bared to you and reflecting in you today, thanks so much for the recommendations! I was so hoping for something similar after finishing the fifty shades series, and I can already see the resemblance! π
Another for the FIFTY list:
The after dark trilogy by Sadie Matthews
Pleasure & pain go hand in hand.
Actually some of the thinking process used by the main female character Beth reminded me a little of the angst I felt from Kiera decioning/indecisioning from the thoughtless series except this series is more BDSM themed (not in the same league though re the relationship triangle complexities of Thoughtless just to be clear on expectations, but a very good read kept me hooked all the same couldn’t put it down)
1. Fire after dark
2. Secrets after dark
3. Promises after dark
Btw I forgot to add I’m a die hard Fifty fan I read a few trilogies then re-read Fifty shades have read it about 9 times I just can’t let go of Christian and Anna and the beautiful story of their complex and blossoming relationship I think what sets it apart is just how much the author lets you inside the head and thinking of Anna and her 2 alter ego subconsciouses. Fifty was definitely a line in the sand and yes I couldn’t agree more, there is life before Fifty and life after Fifty.
Not only did 50 ruin me for for other books, but now I can’t read a stand alone book!!! Everything HAS to be at least a trilogy!!! Ugh!!! Having said that…I DID find a series I may actually love more than 50…so here’s my top 5 books like 50:
1). This Man Trilogy by Malpas
2). Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy by James
3). Bared to You ( Cross will be 5 books) by Day
4). Consequences Trilogy (OMG) by Romig
5). In Flight Trilogy by Lilley
I’d recommend the authors below, check wiki for an overview. They all have fantasy settings but the erotica is purely human
J R Ward : “The Brotherhood” #12 books ~ vampires in the human world
Jacqueline Carey “Kushiel/Imriel/ Trilogies #9books ~ historical fantasy romance
Laurel K Hamilton “Merry Gentry” #8 books. All about half-fairy princess, her men and court intrigues
I followed fifty shades of grey with (This man) trilogy by Jodi Malpas I loved i couldn’t stop reading it its only on I books though. Defenetly recommend it.
You can get the “This Man” trilogy on Amazon too.
I freakin’ loved This Man! I’m so glad the author wrote the whole trilogy so quick and not had us waiting years in between to give us a fix of some Jesse Ward! And that epilogue? I don’t think I’ve ever dropped my iPad out of pure excitement! I prefer this over 50. Sorry!
I loved the books and series below so looking for something similarl to these
Fifty shades
Bared to you
This man series
Collide n pulse
Thoughtless series
Beautiful bastard series
Gabriel series
There are others that I have read, but would love suggestions
I like the alpha male & romance with Happy Ending
The “fire after dark” triology is also I think a must -read after fifty shades of grey !
The This Man series by Jodi Ellen Malpas is incredible. You will fall in Love with Jesse Ward. It is a series of three books. Definitely equal to Fifty Shades.
Fueled and Driven by K Bromberg are excellent books too. Anxiously waiting for the third book.
S.E.C.R.E.T. and Secret Shared by L. Marie Adeline. Cannot wait until the third in the trilogy is released! Need to find the finances to create this “secret” society! Pure genius!
I’ve just finished reading ‘high’ by Zara Cox…. would definitely recommend. Hot millionaire meets woman (who isn’t annoying, yay!) when she is about to board one of his luxury ‘adult’ private jets. Sparks fly and he has a dark secret….
Hope the sequel is out soon!
If you liked Club Shadowlands, try the Dark Garden by Eden Bradley. It is a nice blend of romance, hot alpha, and sweet vanilla being introduced to ..erm.. more intense things
Yay I’m normal! I have been having a fifty shades hangover for 3 weeks and no one understood what i was going through. Coming across this blog is the best thing to happen to me so far in 2014!!!!
I just read Knight & Play & Knight & Stay by Kitty French. Very good read in keeping with the Fifty Shades theme. Lucien Knight owns Adult clubs and Sophie interviews and lands the job of his PA. The story gets hot fast. Good story line, a lot of angst and great intense chemistry. I just started reading the third book which takes up the story of Sophie’s best friend Kara and Dylan Day in Knight & Day. If it’s half as good as the first two books, I’ll be well pleased.
I must have read FSOG trilogy 5x. I am looking for similar books with perhaps Navy seals as the story main character. Any suggestions?
By j.s cooper:ex games
Adrian leigh: steel and lace
Eve carter: pure temptation
Penelope douglas: bully and until you
This Man series awesome
I can NOT recommend anything BEFORE The Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig!
Please don’t and you will be rewarded with some of the best written stories ever! Enjoy and after you do let me know what you think.
Why is the Stark trilogy by Julie Kenner not on this list?! It’s definitely along the lines of fifty, bared to you, and the in flight series by Lilley.
If your looking for something after 50 shades it has to be “This Man”. I preferred Jesse to Christian……
For competing FSOG my list will be
1. R.K. lilley ( in flight series)u may search james cavendish in ur BF/Husband)
2.Jodi Ellan Malpes (this man triology)<——– Ava nd Jesse may become ur ideal couple wid cute HEA.
3.Sylvia Day bared to u triology again damn obsessive novel
Has anyone read – Bared to you – The impossibly trilogy – Dark Layers – Jimmy’s Game. They are all really good reads and the romance in them is ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol Bared to you is one of my fav and Dark Layers is good for smart people who can read between the lines xx
Lucy
I think I have to try dark layers – Jimmy’s Game bcoz I have brilliant quality to read b/w the lines xx
apurva – it is epic, i have read volume 2 but when i tried to post my review i couldnt find it. Absolutely love the story and the male is not your usual do anything good/bad to get the heroin (anile) into bed, he really fights with himself because he discovers something about her – i wont spoil it for you lol there are going to be 6 volumes and the author has promised to keep them all at 85p π Have you read bared to you? what did you think xx
yup lucy i read bared ti you and yeah it was surely addictive after christian gray bared to you definatelly takes it place nd now i m starting dark layers fingers crossed……
Love tears of Tess & Q by pepper winters
Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did , I am so addicted to 50shades that I am shamefully reading it again lol xx
this man trilogy is perfect!
i adore christian gray i wish wid some voo-doo i can create him as living person….
I just finished reading the Honor series by Teresa Mummert, well finished until she releases book 4-6, and it was great. At least I think so. it has the same feel as fifty, except the dom(Wiliam) is a teacher and the sub(Emma) is/was one of his students. I’ve seen other reviews on the book and others absolutly hated it, but I find myself finishing the books in a day or so. I believe it’s an absolutly must read.
I just read “Interview with a Master” OH. MY. GOD! Can’t wait for the sequel to come out! IT’S A MUST READ!!
I just read hardwired and hardpressed (part of the hacker series)! Great story with many fifty like steamy moments. By mereidth wild. Great read
I have been reading some of your posts. Crossfire series by Sylvia Day is pretty good. If you are into the big time erotica I suggest Maya Banks-The Colter Series or Amber Eyes. Another series is the Men in Blue Series by Jayne Rylon. The New York Series by Lainey Reese. Hope this helps to satisfy the after 50 craving. If I come up with more suggestions I will let you know.
just finishes c.j roberts dark druits series if u luv dark romance it is some gr8 stuff for u captive in the darj nd seduction of dark u will luv nd hate caleb but it will make u cry thats for sure please do enjoy it
Hello and thank you for all the wonderful work you do. I read some books that have a compelling storyline and light bdsm feel to them I feel should be added. I looked through this list and didn’t see many of them.
C D Reiss Songs of Submission series and Songs of Corruption
Melody Anne Surrender Series
Pamela Ann (so far anything she writes) but definitely the Chasing and Torn series
and the books that go a little further into BDSM
Tara Sue Me The Submissive Series
Sierra Cartwright Mastered Series
Oh and I forgot to list Jason Luke Interview with a Master. This is from the master pov and a must read in my opinion. It has a huge twist I never saw coming and I am antsy waiting for the sequel.
Don’t forget CC Gibbs books! Much better written than 50 shades!
Anything by Opal Carew ,Maya Banks or Sylvia Day .
I think you also need to include a selection of books similar to 50 shades that have a semi-Epistolary theme. One of my favourite aspects of 50 shades was all of the email communication between them.
Oh my gosh ladies, I only saw 1 post for The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz here. I absolutely loved fifty shades and the series was my first real erotica read, however, I would choose the original sinners series over fifty shades any day now…..amazing story line that jumps backwards and forwards through the series, emotion, a lot of BDSM, great characters and although some of the story line is close to the edge, discovering why the characters are who they are is fascinating. Tiffany Reisz is an awesome writer!
My latest fave is Miranda Mailer. I read the 3 Never Understand books and then went straight on to the Dark Dreams Trilogy. These are hot, believable characters, delicious alpha males who are totally in control.
Beth Kery and the crossfire books are also required reading, although the Miranda Mailer’s story lines are much better.
The best BDSM series by far (way better than fifty shades but also a lot more intense) is The Marketplace Series by Laura Antoniou. Currently there are 5 books but the 6th is approaching publication.
1. The Marketplace
2. The Slave
3. The Trainer
4. The Reunion
5. The Academy
6. (not yet published) The Inheritor
The Professional by Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark) – If you LOVED Fifty, you WILL love this.
“Up in the air ” trilogy by R.K. Lilley and “This Man” trilogy by Jodi Ellen Malpas. R.K. Lilley is really good. Her Up in the Air Series is a MUST READ!!
This Man is amazing!! Jesse Ward (the protagonist) is soooo Hot and he’s full of secrets and surprises and the novel has a very good plot along with numerous steamy hot scenes. He had me hooked from start to finish. MUST READ!!
Another series I would recommend is the Stark Trilogy by J. Kenner. Its first book is Release me. The book is really hot, has BDSM and is full of steamy scenes and Damien Stark is just wow!
@Maryse I typically don’t visit blogs and came a crossed yours and I love it here now! I took the suggestion on a Comfort Object and agree with your view and it was a pretty good book! I have noticed some books are gone… Is there more than one page for books? Lol, thanks again!
I personally suggest Hardpressed series!
I read a series (5 or 7??) years ago, it took place in old days with kings queens peasants etc, it was very graphic, like a cinderella story at the end. Peasants were slaves, were taught to be sexual pets…
Do you happen to know the name of the book/series.???
It is the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Ann Rice. Obviously there are 3 books.
I have a recommendation for a series that I read after the Fifty Shades trilogy that haven’t been mentioned yet. The series is called ‘Up In The Air’ and its a trilogy that has a spin off trilogy called ‘Tristan and Danika’ that features the other two main characters that left the readers hanging on what happened between them. There is also a novella called ‘Lana’ for another main character that explains her story too. The series is a really good book to read after Fifty Shades because it does contain BDSM in it as well as a control freak billionaire that falls for a not as well of beautiful woman. The two main characters both have troubling pasts that raise conflicts like Fifty. It took me on the same emotional roller coaster as Fifty Shades did and I think that’s why it’s so good! The trilogy of Tristan and Danika, in my opinion, was even better and more emotional than Up In The Air, trilogy. I highly recommend these books they remind me so much of Fifty Shades that I sometimes get them mixed up! They are totally worth the time and money of buying and reading them! They’re both available in paper and ebook. Also, in May of 2015, R.K. Lilley is publishing another book to the Up In The Air series called ‘Mr. Beautiful’ which is in the males point of view. Thanks!
I will definitely have to add the hacker series by Meredith wild and the breathless trilogy by Maya banks. I am addicted and wanted more reads. This list has helped me pick some new series I would like to pick up. But as far as after 50, these would be my tops. And I loved the 4. Hours I spent indulging myself in beautiful disaster
Maybe not the right place to ask but I feel like I read a book review on this site about a woman searching for info about her mom who gets help from her friends brother who happens to be a billionaire and he ends up falling in love with her and protecting her. I really want to read it and I can’t find the review. I think it was part off a series. Help please π
Hi . I read 50 shades trilogy and crossfire series maybe 3 times ….now I just finished the Fixed trilogy by Laurelin Paige .
Fixed on you
Found in you
Forever with you
Hudson( the whole story from his point of view)
I have to say that I was reading the 2. half of forever with you with tears in my eyes … now I am obsessed with Hudson Pierce π I can recommend it only . I am sorry if my english isn’t perfect (I’m hungarian) π
Hey there.Check out the series from C C Gibbs.1) Knights mistress 2) all he needs.3) all he desires.Theres also Game night another book.I started on knights mistress and im hooked from page 4 awesome
Marie Force just released her first erotic trilogy under the name M S Force. It is the Quantam trilogy. Excellent read.
So glad I found this site. I just got done reading “The Hackers series” by Meredith Wild after reading FSOG and I am hooked. Similar to FSOG but with a deeper story line to it. So far there are four books out and the fifth one will be coming out this September 2015. Thank you for the list of recommendations.
Thank you, Maryse! Amazing list!
I have been using your website for 2 years Maryse and love all the info you post, it has helped me pick out books I truly love to read.
This series is similar to 50 Shades but much more erotic and I didn’t see it on your list, you should read it. The fifth book is coming out Sept. 15th.
“The Hacker Series” by Meredith Wild.
You wont be disappointed!
Thank you Lise (and everyone that has made more recommendations) I’m adding them in to this main list as we speak. π YAY!!!
“Deacon” by KA! Missing from list…
Might I suggest the book Load the Dice, by Moriah Gemel, published by Interlude Press? It explores the world of SSC BDSM, and is a better read than 50 Shades, imho.
I agree with the Joey W. Hill recommendations for BDSM, although my favorite that I’ve read so far in the Nature of Desire series is “Natural Law.” Also I agree with the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. I love the Brothers. I especially liked the homoerotic vibe between Vishous and Butch, and I am not the only reader of the series who enjoyed that.
I read a lot of m/m. Syd McGinley’s Dr. Fell series is very good. Dr. Fell is a lifestyle Dom, and the first set of stories are in his viewpoint. The author with the pen name James Buchanan writes good BDSM with interesting character interactions. Some of the books have action-adventure, too. Jules Jones writes good BDSM. Moriah Gemel’s “Load the Dice” series is a gentle introduction to BDSM erotica, educational for the characters and the readers, and with lots of feelings.
Happy reading!
I would highly recommend Moriah Gemel’s Load the Dice. If you enjoyed the BDSM aspects of Fifty Shades, OR if you are looking for a story about two characters who experience “healing, trust and emotional growth” together as a result of their BDSM play, this book is a great choice for you!
Gemel’s story follows a “vanilla” character being introduced to the scene by someone more experienced, much like the 50 Shades series, but Gemel is far more aware of and sensitive to the “Safe, Sane, and Consensual” rules that are essential to real-life BDSM. There are no mysterious millionaires bestowing lavish gifts in this story, but there are characters that feel genuine and relatable, and many scenes of blow-your-mind hot erotica.
The book is published by the Consent imprint from Interlude Press and can be found in both e-book and print forms via their website and through most major online retailers. Here’s the summary from the IP website if you want to know more:
“Eric left the BDSM scene years ago because he couldnβt find the right partner, opting instead to meet men in quiet coffee shops and piano bars. But when his friend invites him to a posh hook-up party, he meets first time sub Jamie, whom he convinces to detail his sexual fantasies during a passionate night together.
“The pair soon embark on a relationship that introduces Jamie to the BDSM scene, and plays out his fantasies one by one. But as they approach the final fantasy, will Eric be able to walk away?”
Check out the Breeds Series by Lora Leigh. They are really good i love every single one of them π <3

I am reading book one now and I love it!
I can’t believe you added it to this list! You’re gonna live all of the books!
Have you read Stark September by CD Bradley ? Owen Stark is a rugged special forces bad boy from and wealthy west coast family. Kira Riley is a determined captain who wants no part of romance in the military. This book is a MUST READ! The beautiful but forbidden romance that develops takes you on an emotional journey and the steamy scenes are HOT, HOT, HOT!!
Sorry, sweetie, if this author has been previously mentioned (you’ve got so many recommendations that I got tired of scrolling and saving names…) but, have you read anything by Shayne McClendon? She has an awesome series called The Barter System (as well as unrelated romances) that blow Fifty Shades out of the water. Worth the read!
Thank you Jo!!
